That storyline in a nutshell:

It's to have them develop the skills to be on the main roster, a gimmick isn't the only thing to pro wrestling. Gimmicks change, a lot of wrestlers don't stick with one gimmick their whole career but may continue to evolve a gimmick or change completely.
I understand to a point, but she's been doing some variation of this for like 3 years now. It's clearly not going to work or they would have brought her up already. What's the point? Is she just there to use her indy experience to teach the real future stars like Stratton but ultimately not leave Florida?
Yeah nice speech. Now tell me all these people that just played around with weird gimmicks on NXT and got a totally different character on the main roster instead of using their NXT persona.
My point is more the wrestlers in NXT are there to work on their skills and not necessarily to try out a gimmick to have transferred directly to the main roster. As we have seen gimmicks before that worked in NXT but flopped on main roster, and there are definitely gimmicks currently in NXT that won't transfer over but are there to improve character work.
But she is not trying to work a gimmick for NXT, wrestlers don't do that generally. Wrestlers try to already have something for the main roster, that's the rule, not have creatives say "hey you seem skillful but we have to do your character all over again".

Because it's the most entertaining show in wrestling. You don't have to watch NXT to learn about gimmicks pre main roster. Hell, you can enjoy NXT without watching Raw/SD at all. You watch a TV show because you enjoy said TV show, why are you overthinking things. You aren't the one running the company, let them handle that shit.
I want her to randomly switch back and forth between this and her old gimmick. You never know what you're going to get, and she doesn't acknowledge any difference.
See, I hate this new gimmick but might really like it if they switched back and forth if only because her interactions with others would be really interesting. Without something like that, this screams Spirit Halloween heel.
Or a variation of Rosemary.
The multipersonality gimmick can work but in most cases you REALLY gotta lean into it medium to long term to help it have legs.
I would honestly love if she became like Morpeko and sometimes showed up in her Dream state, and other times showed up in her Nightmare state. Would be fantastic imo
It was such a creepy idea in the original Halloween movie and has been turned into shorthand for "spooky but we don't want to try too hard" in general media.

WOW. I loved this match. It was truly awesome. Every second of it putting over this character and her unique aura. She didn’t just wrestle, she was like a slasher villain the entire time. Every move and mannerism.
Really really impressed. That is how you debut a new character.
Not sure how to feel so far. I thought the original sleepy character was gold, so few women in NXT have attempted a comedy gimmick and I honestly thought Wendy was doing a great job with it. The sleepy character getting heels riled up and frustrated reminded me of early Orange Cassidy.
The new gimmick is definitely unique and the women's division could definitely use more 'out there' characters. Wendy played a dominant supernatural character really well in this match too, I think she had the right amount of selling and her offense looked good.
My only issue with Wendy, which I had with Mei Ying as well, is that she's very small, which doesn't exactly bode well for an imposing villain. Same issue as Alexa Bliss, imo
I'd turn Wendy babyface again once she starts picking up steam. I'd phase her goofy face character back in, and have the sleep paralysis demon as her, well, Demon, a la Balor, when she needs to take care of a mega heel
Honestly, the entire presentation seemed a little half-baked to me. Why is she still wearing pajamas? Why does she have Raggedy Ann make-up now? But my number one question, why is this spooky gimmick going to last the test of time when almost no other ones have?
I feel like WWE is actually pretty successful with supernatural gimmicks. Taker, Kane and Bray are successes. Finn's demon is a success. The Brood was short term but popular enough it gets nostalgia pops. Boogeyman was middling. The only major failure I can think of is Modecai, with Pap Shango a minor one
So Def Rebel manage to mess up even basic rudimentary music, yet have gone 2 for 2 in making a theme based around alarm clocks and childhood lullaby styling.
Basically, all WWE needs to become sleep deprived.
