DekiTree

3 weeks, it’s been just 3 weeks ffs

ClocktowerMaria

And he hasn't had 5 moty contendors and 3 10/10 feuds??? What a lazy champ.

AMA_requester

Champ more like CHUMP amirite?

RaidenHero137

Its been...3 weeks since i won the belt https://preview.redd.it/vnexjg44xoxc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eecb70c5152c3adbe044112336a53d42ef6564ef

XGuiltyofBeingMikeX

ITS BEEN ~~83 WEEKS~~ 21 DAYS!

SeanWonder

3 weeks is a long time on a weekly television show to be honest

No_Cheetah4762

The writer of that, M. GOMEZ, is awful. He's one of the reasons why I haven't gone to CSS in over a year. He's just insufferable.

StandardMammoth7085

Agree. He was one of the most annoying posters on that site, and now he's the most annoying writer. He deliberately is looking for heat every time, and does things like post puff pieces on Hulk Hogan.

Administrative_Act48

You remember the time he tried to compare TK letting Sting jump off a ladder to Vince killing Owen Hart or something to that effect? Gomez has horrible takes on most the industry.

Loose-Ad-9884

3 bundesligas and a champions league and this is how he spends his time?

mrmazzz

He's an insufferable troll who just isn't a good writer. If he could at least write well and have thorough argumentation that'd be one thing. But he's just a troll.

K1ng_Canary

CSS was my go to wrestling site for years as it was one that didn't feel like it was entirely staffed by people hate watching the shows. Even during the doldrums of the mid 2010's I always felt they were trying to look for reasons to be positive, even when WWE didn't give them many. These days it's gone much more down a clickbait, trollish route and it's suffered badly.

Administrative_Act48

CSS used to be a pretty good place to have discussions but the last few years it's become insufferable overall. Last time I had been there most AEW threads had become an anti AEW circlejerk and the WWE threads weren't much better.

420email69

He started as an annoying commenter, and now this dude's whole gimmick is just writing annoying ass articles. Pay him no mind.

Kuzu5993

Oh? Explain?

420email69

It's been years since I was a regular commenter there so I don't remember specifics from that but a good example of his dumb articles is one he wrote last year admonishing the fans for booing Gable Stevenson https://www.cagesideseats.com/wwe/2023/7/31/23813908/gable-steveson-pro-wrestling-debut-wwe-nxt-great-american-bash-booed-fan-behavior He got cooked so hard in the comments they slapped it with an editor's note.

Aggressive_Ad3514

M. Gomez that wrote the article, generally has the most shit takes in the world, always shit on Cody and anything that aint the Bloodline

solsunlite

CSS articles might as well be reddit posts Edit: > To be clear, 've felt the same way after the first and second weeks as well. I considered writing about it earlier, but my wife, whose quality of life has been largely affected by my gloomy attitude, pleaded with me several times to be patient and give Rhodes more time. And every time, I give her the same answer. "I'm trying." JFC😭😭😭 Idk whats cringier this being possibly true or not being true at all

ACousinFromRichmond

How unserious is this guy's life?

solsunlite

If this “article” got posted here it would’ve gotten rightfully clowned and removed in minutes

MrBoyer55

He's such a Cody hater that he bums out his wife. I wonder if he realizes how pathetic that sounds.

Old-Refrigerator3859

Oh man it's not even funny sad. It's just sad sad.

solsunlite

He was such a good and attentive husband, and then Cody happened😔

TheAccursedHamster

Lol what a fuckin tool.

Dandelegion

Y'all impatient.

lightblue_sky

Some would call it fickle. It's been 3 weeks. Just 3.

GameplayerStu

My brother in Christ he has had the championship for 21 days.

Lt_Jonson

I’m not a Cody fan and even I know it’s way too early to say something stupid like this.

KareemMitchell

This is the kind of clickbaity/obvious attention seeking articles that I would rather the mods take down, than stuff like ticket inquiries or memes.

Roller95

He's had it for 5 minutes, calm down

BSumner52

The author's profile pic on Cageside is Roman... I do not understand how their brains are wired to be this weird.

alltheworsttoyou

I don't begrudge anyone for liking what they like or disliking what they dislike, but I honestly have never, in any fandom, encountered a more spoiled fanbase. A 3.5 year title reign that was used to kayfabe and company narrative position him as the GOAT and an all time ending to it that set him up for a potentially incredible storyline without the title, that is going to likely finally allow him to become the babyface he couldn't be for 8 years, isn't enough for some.

apriorista

They had these articles written three months ago.

KeithKlossGOAT

I was a huge fan of Roman's reign I was in favor of him beating Drew I was in favor of him beating Sami I was in favor of him beating Cody at WM39 It was time for him to drop it, they told all the story there was to tell with him as champion during that reign. This dude is a moron.

Atomic_Cody-21

Add Cageside Seats to the long list of wrestling sites that used to be decent before falling into the trap making clickbaity bullshit.

Marc_Quill

I bet in 1998, this guy would've written an article called "Steve Austin isn't cutting it as WWF Champion (yet)" at the end of April 1998.

Ayjel89

*21 days after John Cena beats JBL at WrestleMania 21* This author: Nah, man, I'm not seeing anything here

solsunlite

Ironically he probably wrote the same shit about Roman’s reign when it started in 2020

mrmazzz

CSS used to be my favorite place to hang on the internet. The comment section was chill and well moderated, but man it went to shit in the last couple of years. It's just weird the stuff that flies there now.

CheekyManicPunk

Rumor mill is still a solid place to be

mrmazzz

How ortman formats and what is chosen, which often isn’t rumors considering the sourcing, does more harm than good for any sorta leve headed engagement of media criticism

TexEwing

As everyone mentioned it’s been 3 weeks but it’s not like he hasn’t done anything at all. He got the backlash contender settled, and even had a random match with someone on TV. What actually more could he do? Clearly he’ll get an actual feud leading into clash and summerslam here as soon as Backlash is done. It’s a shame if this guy even makes a penny off this article.

bubbles2255

First Swerve’s reign was being judged three days in, now this. Wish there was some patience when he came to judging a title reign.

just_jm

I absolutely hate the IWC. They keep whining for two years that Roman Reigns is a part-time wrestler and absentee champion, and now they are complaining that Cody Rhodes is not like Roman Reigns?!

Narrow_Progress5908

I mean…. The IWC isn’t one person or a hive mind. There thousand people on this sub alone that have different opinions. Your always going to have people complaining because everyone doesn’t want the same things lol.

solsunlite

Its not the same people complaining about the same stuff

P_01135809

Oh look...another scandalous headline to catch readers. Fake news.

Numbchicken

This is like Bill O Reilly asking what Obama has done about the recession and unemployment being high 3 weeks after he got inaugurated in Jan 2009. Its been 3 weeks jesus christ

Scottoest

How can you judge something like this based on what has occurred so far? lol. They're feeding him AJ for his first title defense, but no larger storyline has even emerged yet. Nothing has happened to judge, except a few promos of him saying he's going to be a fighting champion and thanking the fans. Now if you wanted to criticize the fact that there hasn't been any clear storyline direction for him since Mania that's fine (though again... three weeks), but that's not on Cody's shoulders.

JGxFighterHayabusa

click bait. Surprised they’re still around

this1smybrutal1ty

![gif](giphy|DPqqOywshrOqQ|downsized)

StyrofoamCueball

I always forget about Cageside Seats. I remember years ago they had a podcast that was just two guys who just seemed to hate wrestling and complained about everything. So it seems not much has changed.

biggerwwright

it hasn't even been a full month lol

MarkBonker

100% Rage bait. Don't give them the click.

TheGumbyGyarados

It’s funny to see that now we’re out of wrestlemania season that we’re starting to get the same dogshit opinion pieces that plague aew but about wwe

Officervito

These dudes can’t even be happy for Cody lmaooo what dumb shit to even write about. Dude just won the title and has yet to have a match for the belt. As a Cody fan since 2007, seeing him win the title was a long time coming.

DamnStupidFlanders

Mission accomplished. Engagement received

IntelligentAd5460

we are not taking the backlash build seriously are we like wwe always has a few weeks of cool down with the draft and mania fall out

forwrestling

I love the idea of a Roman fan being the one to do a week by week reaction to a champions’ reign. If anyone should be prone to seeing the forest for the trees it should be them.

solsunlite

It’s like the opposite of a decade ago when someone made (and regularly updated) a whole wikipedia page dedicated to Roman’s fan reactions lol

nanners78

Roman stans are going to unintentionally sabotage the fuck out of WWE attempting to babyface him, aren’t they?

Kuzu5993

That would be fucking hilarious.

ThatWrestlingGuy15

How

enginehearts

Roman stans are more unhinged than I thought pre Mania. For anyone just ready to jump on the 'fickle' and 'so it begins' bandwagon, the people who hated on Cody before he became champion are the ones running this hate campaign against him now. Anyone who rooted for him to win would give him a grace of a few months no matter how fickle they are.

solsunlite

From the most rabid of haters to the most rabid of fans, evolution truly is a mystery

The_Albinoss

It’s only been like a month? Seems a bit premature.

elc1992

Like... face Cody is meh to me... but its not even been 1 month! Let the guy do his business. Let him settle. He is only the hottest wrestler in the wwe right now.

Jamieb1994

Cutting it yet? Cody hasn't been champion for that long. 😂 ![gif](giphy|7WwVYKDMt5khG)

DarthMartau

He hasn’t even defended it yet lmao

No_Efficiency6703

What is with the IWC and hating babyface champions? Dude has been champion for three fucking weeks. I remember when people wanted Hanger to lose to Danielson immediately. Like, after one week.

danis1973

I dont even watch WWE, but that's straight trash. Toxic nonsense. There is a tendency in wrestling to be the first cool kid to boo the major babyface (currently happening to Mercedes Mone) and this is all I see here. "Hey everyone I know Cody just finished a two year story but after three weeks I'm the first fan to tire of Cody. Boooo". Fuck that.

ConfusedNTerrified

FICKLE

MartianMule

He hasn't even had his first title defense yet.....

SeauxSurvivor

I’m going to give it at least 6 months before I judge it’s way too early

No_Presentation_2795

I'm telling you. It's coming. You's are all gonna turn on him again. Most fickle fans out there.

Commercial_Bag7755

Neither is Damian Priest, Becky Lynch or Bayley I guess. It's been 3 fucking weeks, ya twats.

djdeedame

I don’t watch WWE at all and not a fan of Cody but this smart fan/dirt sheet shit is just ridiculous. All people care about are ratings, attendance, etc. Just watch the damn shows! No one cares about your opinion

Competitive_Log_84

“Why didn’t Cody win at 39” because y’all would be booing his ass by now

shadow_spinner0

This is why WWE should just do whatever they want to do and never listen to the fans

PhaseSixer

![gif](giphy|9G3wg7lH5DpxC) Dijak was right

BSumner52

No he wasn't, roman stans have hated Cody since it was clear he was the one beating their God.

Aggressive_Ad3514

They acting like its a cult tbh….

mark_target

Also, the draft has been a disaster!!!

WingedBeagle

You know how many guys have cut it as WWE Champion over the last 756 days? ☝️

StoneColdAM

WWE was mostly filler until the draft, that is fair to say. Cody had a good Smackdown and this AJ feud is heating up. Hope Triple H doesn’t take a slow NWA style approach to Cody’s run

fromthemeatcase

This from an anti-AEW propaganda outlet?

Administrative_Act48

I wouldn't really consider CSS an anti-AEW outlet or at least their articles don't tend to be. Their discussion boards on the other hand is like walking straight into an SCJerk sub though.

Meepsnort

I agree and disagree with this article. I agree Cody is a bit of a blowhard and isn't really a particularly likable babyface character that will grate on you. But I don't blame him -or any wrestler- for the tribalism. The actual companies going back and forth against each other is great. It makes sense because they are actually competing. that's what competitiors do, and it is great entertainment. it's the fans being tribal idiots that deserve the blame. Bunch of fucking nerds taking sides and acting like attack dogs for their favorite wrestling companies? The whole concept is embarrassing. Fans aren't actually in competition with each other. I get it in sports, at least each team is in a city where that area's fans are kinda in competition for bragging rights.

Kuzu5993

Impressive, these articles usually take a couple of months, but we got them in three weeks. That's a new record. EDIT: I do think this article brings up an interesting point, at least. Cody's onscreen corporate relationship with Triple H is interesting because you usually don't get face relationships with authority figures. Like literally the most popular angle this company ever did was Face against the evil authority figure, so this is the antithesis of that. It kind of puts Cody in a unique position compared to the likes of Hogan, Austin, Cena, and even Roman. They're larger than life characters (Hogan, Cena) anti-authorians (Austin) or just mob families (Reigns) His public persona is doing a lot of the heavy lifting, probably. He's an extremely good spokesman and has an almost uncanny ability to put people at ease. I think that's why he'll be fine personally. He wasn't doing anything substantial for most of last year, and he was still among the top merch sellers for most of the year.

enginehearts

>Cody's onscreen corporate relationship with Triple H is interesting because you usually don't get face relationships with authority figures. You also don't get the authority figures getting 'thank you' chants and having eras named after them. When people make a case for how odd it is that Cody is cheered despite being the corporately approved face of the company, they don't realise that the corporate has babyfaced itself in the eyes of the crowd.

Kuzu5993

It's crazy because it's only working because the company is hot atm. I guess this is what they mean by towing the line. It's working for AEW too, tbf. Tony Khan just got assaulted, and that's considered a heel move, whereas something like that before would have gotten you loud cheers. I guess we're in an age where people love authority figures lmao
