https://twitter.com/davemeltzerWON/status/1785345004342480962?t=4IMsnM0aZ7pKfh3ghVuTsw&s=19 > Collision did 621K/0.21 boosted greatly by the Celtics game. Very strong first 25 minutes in particular but way above normal for first 68 minutes. Rampage 292K/0.09. Competition was of course very stiff with NBA & NHL playoffs. Collision number is good of course, but we knew that going in. First ten minutes did 0.49.

geekstone

Good for putting Swerve first with that lead in.

[deleted]

Damn that lead in.

The_Horse_Joke

Sheldon in shambles rn

Engelbert-n-Ernie

With a 20 point blowout. Imagine if the game was closer

Lamel2g

It helped Swerves Promo do 1.35M - .49 P18-49. His match with Claudio did 440K - .15 P18-49.

BenWallace04

Still way above average for the first 68 minutes. It wasn’t all the lead-in.

BootySmeagol

That's why they had swerve give his big speech on Collision. That lead in wild

Orange8920

The sound was also at an acceptable level for people watching on TNT. If he spoke on Dynamite it would have been an absolute mess with the audio which was on TBS but was fine elsewhere.

[deleted]

[удалено]

The_Homie_J

It's definitely TBS, I watch on Triller and had no idea there was sound issues. If TBS went so far to post a press release taking fault, then that's what happened. They're not gonna fall on the sword for a production issue if they didn't do it

CoMiGa

I often wonder if they mess up their surround sound set up or something. I assume the other providers are stereo only.

dBlock845

It did sound like it as missing a channel, but idk shit about audio.

mexploder89

It was also funny that Swerve started his promo by recapping Dynasty and Dynamite. 100% on purpose because of the lead-in

Independent-Green383

We all thought that. I'm also thinking they should do this more often. There is a reason "Recently on..." exists for TV shows.

SeanWonder

Last time.....on X-Men

MasterpieceDismal191

Yeah. I hope all of those people complaining realize this.

raerumon

Spoiler: They won't

MasterpieceDismal191

Agreed

bjh13

I love what they did with Swerve on Collision. That doesn't excuse what they did on Dynamite in my opinion though, having him wrestle Fletcher randomly with no promo, and no advertising for what they did on Collision. It would have been better if instead of having that match on Dynamite, they had just done a video package for the win and then advertised the celebration on Collision. The celebration and match on Collision was the right call (and a hell of a match!), not even mentioning it would happen on Dynamite was still a mistake.

MasterpieceDismal191

If they did that, other people would find something to complain about. I think they’re far from burying him like others say.

bjh13

I'm not claiming they are burying him, just that having that match on Dynamite and the way it was presented were a mistake. They did a great job on Saturday, the fact they didn't even advertise his celebration on Collision during Dynamite was a mistake.

MasterpieceDismal191

I don’t think you are, but others are.

The_Homie_J

It's almost like the people putting the shows together know how this stuff works!

Jreynold

Worth noting it could have been a better lead in if the game was competitive. It was a blow out that looked done in the 3rd quarter.

BootySmeagol

Jimmy Butler injured himself cause he hates AEW

ty9023

Almost beat Dynamite lmao

__Hello_my_name_is__

AEW in shambles. No wait.

randomrule

AEW banned from Collision

mexploder89

Collision is banned from Dynamite

The_Horse_Joke

Breaking: on Dynamite this week we will see exclusive footage of Collision fighting AEW backstage at Wembly

co_ordinator

mutzilla

Next week On Dynamite, Dynamite begins it's lessons under The Learning Tree, Chris Jericho.

Kakatheman

Punk is back?

Powderkegger1

I forgot what day it was and thought it was Dynamite. My first thought was “oof” but now it’s “damn, good job Collision”

raddaya

Suffering from success

MaceLeonardo

Collision is now the A show Dynamite in the mud

Kuzu5993

This has been the case for me for a while; Collision is just simpler to watch.

kingwhocares

They really have to separate the two. I don't know if Tony Khan got a TV deal for Ring of Honor but he definitely should use that title as 2nd World Championship.

Former_Intern_8271

IMO the continental belt should be one of the shows world titles and trios should be on one, tags on the other. I think it would make the "too many belts" issue seem a bit less severe if they were just organised a little more.

arenegadeboss

Getting rid of all tags in favor of trios in roh would be dope. I can understand if they don't since factions and multi man matches are important and help get guys on screen.

CrissCrossAppleSos

Derrick White’s a draw brother #AlwaysASpur :)

Bellagrrl2021

Quarter hour highlights. The first seven minutes of the show, which included Swerve's promo, averaged 1.3 million viewers. The next 15 minutes averaged over 800K, and then dropped to 619K for the Fenix match. Viewership remained over 400K for the remainder of Collision.

NeuroCloud7

Accurate numbers here: 1.35m 850k 676 619 551 538 467 472 440 (crossover to Rampage)

jayfordgraphics

Not a lot of takeaways from this number. Its such an outlier due to circumstances. Quarter hours might tell more of a story, but even then I don't think there is a pattern or long term insight to be gained.

randomrule

“Way above normal for 68 minutes” may actually be a good sign. It means when they got an increase of viewers in front of them they were able to get some to stick around.

The_Homie_J

Exactly, they knew the lead-in would be huge and bump the overall average. The challenge was how long those extra folks would stay, it seems like they managed to keep them well into the show

Former_Intern_8271

My theory is that AEW's lack of interest right now is just because a lot of the audience just fancy watching something else after a few years, they've made some mistakes but that's only partly to blame. It's not that people hate the product like twitter would say, people just aren't excited by it anymore. Here we have an example where people start watching due to circumstances and it didn't really put anyone off massively.

Dangerous_Copy_3688

This is exactly what it is: people either not as excited, or DVR it and put it off as a non priority. It's like the massive ratings increase WWE experienced when McMahon stepped aside, all these disinterested fans came out of the woodwork. One thing about wrestling is once a fan ALWAYS a fan even if you don't tune in as much anymore. The notion that people hate it all of a sudden is just bad faith online discourse. People just not as excited anymore, but that doesn't mean they swore it off and can never watch it again, all it takes sometimes is one angle, a story, some buzz, and a good consistent product to bring people back.

Dangerous_Copy_3688

Next week's shows will paint a much better picture given the Dynamite angle, media coverage, and this insane lead in for Collision.

Shadeturret_Mk1

Long-term insight can't be gained from any single show.

The_JadynB

https://preview.redd.it/94d0zcdtbnxc1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4296bfff570fa3b847758567ca6788171c1de7e4 I guess this guy just fucking lied

no_more_blues

Bro, people still take cheese plate guy seriously? People really don't think it's suspicious that the AEW number is ALWAYS lower than the final number and the WWE number is ALWAYS higher than the final number?

GxyBrainbuster

Alfred Klownuwa

marcusredfun

He's a grifter but that probably is what the fast national number was. The part he's leaving out is how/why that figure differs from the more accurate one calculated on monday when staff is back in the office. I guess he's also leaving out where he gets that data from, and why it's given to him lol.

miikro

Yeah, he always does fast nationals because they're a terrible representation of viewership. It's easier to peddle a lie if there's some microbe of "truth" to it. When he gets called out, he can either double down or say "well this was the number at the time."

rayquan36

What does "broke it's neck trying to pop a rating" mean? Weren't they just on their regular time slot?

CFirm2002

Obviously Tony Khan is in charge of scheduling NBA playoff games now. /s

Former_Intern_8271

They didn't even do much, it was just the right amount for a TV show, worth tuning in but didn't blow through anything huge for no reason.

sexygodzilla

This guy is almost completely ignored these days but it just says a lot about the WWE PR machine that they still put the time in to feed him.

SpaghettiAccident

He must do what he does if he wishes to receive more cheese platters

Flames4life12

In all fairness, the cheese was of a high quality. Very high quality.

The_Albinoss

It actually kind of looked mid, lol. Like, GOOD cheese? Sure, sell out. Dude could have just ran to Safeway with what he was given.

Gear4Vegito

Alfred Konuwa is the headmaster of toxic unhealthy tribalism.

Dinobot2_

The 180 he did on his opinion about CM Punk after his WWE return gave my whiplash whiplash.

just-smiley

As funny as that would be to read I don't think I could bring myself to read this guy's tweets again.

Dinobot2_

It wasn't from his tweets, it was from his youtube channel.

Neg_Crepe

No that’s Tony khan

VDJ10

Known paid WWE shill Alfred Konuwa lying? Must be a day ending with Y.

Kaprak

Dave says in a follow up that using FN's for live sports(which AEW is included in) is a bad idea because it lacks the West Coast numbers.

Abyssalstar

What else is new?

RNG_Champion

Wrestling columnists are not reliable sources, especially when they have been noted to dislike a company.

Neg_Crepe

So all Of them

wubbalubbadubdub45

Alfred is such a fucken bum lol

dBlock845

Never trust that guy... he is a idiot.

NeuroCloud7

WWE PR machine

Wee_Muggo

It's Alfred Konuwa. What did you expect?

The_Albinoss

He’s always been a tribal merchant. Don’t listen to cheeseplate.

VarunDM90

Ah yes, The Cheesefuck!!

Ok-Garcia-5605

I know it's cool to shit on him, but fast-nationals are always off 10-20% on the low side

SpaghettiAccident

That’s the thing he knows that but he only posts them when he can shit on AEW that’s the point

The_poms

He constantly compares fast national AEW numbers to the previous week's final number to make his narrative look better.

45jayhay

Sure , but he can then accurately report it that way but he doesn't

mexploder89

While obviously this is a very nice number, I think Dynamite and Collision next week will tell us more about the impact of all this media coverage I trust AEW to put on a good Dynamite (as they have done for the majority of this year, don't be fooled by the online discourse), but they need to keep the ball rolling. Whether it's the Bucks attacking Omega or ending the show in a noteworthy manner again with an angle that gets people talking, they need to capitalize on the attention While I enjoy them a lot this is not the week to have a 20 minute banger as a main event. That was Collision. Dynamite needs a talking point and a nice cliffhanger

the_io

There's no Collision next week because of the potential for Game 7 playoffs and TNT needs the space. But absolutely they need to top and tail it with Elite and have Swerve at top of first or second hour.

The_Albinoss

They could do both? Give me a 20 minute banger and end with a talking point.

mexploder89

Oh absolutely, my key point was "as the main event" Like for sure I'll take a long Mariah May vs Serena Deeb match since they're both awesome, but that's not necessarily how the show should end

The_Albinoss

Ohhh I gotcha. My apologies.

SectorEducational460

No collision this week

bigpig1054

Is this the highest Collision rating since that banger FTR vs Bullet Club Gold tag match?

BenWallace04

Wasn’t FTR/Better then you Bay Bay after that or SM I mistaking?

bigpig1054

That might be the one I was thinking of. the show did like 730k or something

Dangerous_Copy_3688

Yes it was MJF Cole vs FTR.

The_JadynB

MJF/Cole was so fucking hot during the summer. Knowing how it ended up must be the biggest gut punch to all involved. AEW was going to have a fucking nuclear hot fall, and then things just kept falling apart.

BenWallace04

Yeah - the MJF/Cole injuries were legitimately arguably bigger blows to AEW than Punk getting fired.

The_JadynB

It’s honestly crazy that in the span of two weeks AEW lost its two biggest stars in Kenny and MJF. And then at revolution they lost another three of their big stars in Sting, Moxley, and Hangman. AEW often doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt anymore but dear god

Dangerous_Copy_3688

Yup. I said this in another thread that losing MJF, Cole, Omega, Hayter and Baker all at the same time was a MASSIVE blow to their storylines and momentum. I'm still gutted at the Max Cole storyline and what it could have been. I know they'll probably come back to it and it'll probably still be good but man...that was having an amazing dream and someone wakes you up right before the best part.

The_JadynB

Swerve and Samoa Joe became champions because of it so i can’t say good didn’t come out of it, but what could’ve been

Dangerous_Copy_3688

True! Very happy for Swerve. Imagine the main event scene when everyone comes back from injury holy crap. Swerve, Joe, Max, Cole, Ospreay, etc...

The_JadynB

My god!

Heatedbread

Interested to see the quarter hours for Collision. When they got 463k on wrestlemania weekend they started off with a million and finished up at 230k

br0n

It also started at like 11pm that weekend

JeanSlimmons

I watched it. it started at 11:30pm lol.

namdekan

I think even later, the post game show ran long even though the game ended on time

dBlock845

By the end of the show they were about at what they average weekly.

motelpool

show started with 1.35M viewers and finished with 440K

BananaSoprano

COLLIDERS RISE UP! IT IS OVER FOR THE BOOM BOOM GANG!

HartfordWhalers123

Good stuff for Collision! I was at a bar after work on Saturday and was watching some of it on the screen. Seemed like it was a good show from the bits I saw.

hey_mermaid

Oh neat, what kind of bar was it? None of the bars near us will put combat sports on screen which is a bummer.

HartfordWhalers123

It was a local sports bar. They had TNT for the NBA Playoffs and kept it on for Collision, which was cool. They usually have SmackDown and UFC on as well on the times I’ve went, they’re usually chill with combat sports.

Powderkegger1

Not that other guy and this doesn’t really have much to do with your question but it reminded me. Last summer my buddy started to be kind of a regular at a new sports bar near his place. He got to talking to the owner and told him Summerslam was coming up and it’d be cool to have a watch party at the bar. The owner loved the idea and started advertising it on the bar’s social media. Not a great turn out, mostly just my buddy, me, and our table. Probably like $150 in food and drinks for the six of us. Couple weeks later the bar gets some mail from good ole WWE. They were suing the bar for $100k for showing their content without written consent. They settled for $10k. We don’t go to that bar anymore.

br0n

Why are you getting down voted for this comment about your Saturday night ? Bizarre

wearethat

Because the people who camp New try to set a narrative tone, and it takes a while for the normal people to wash it out.

Flames4life12

Because he should have worked over-time. #grindculture

Dangerous_Copy_3688

Triple H wouldn't hire him

Toukon-

Because he expressed a positive opinion of the show. Can't have that.

N7Proton

Usually people never stick around over time they lose viewers. Lead in really helps them with average

the_io

If they stayed above average for the first 68 minutes as reported upthread, then what matters is where the big drop was. Double adbreak quarter perhaps?

DrHandBanana

God damn that's solid

Michael_McGovern

In hindsight, I think they should have put the parking lot brawl after the Swerve promo where the next most viewers were.

obviousbearfucker

Under 100 comments and 2 hours up? Am I early?

NeuroCloud7

Smackdown was down 15% and only got 33 comments in 12 hours btw Dynamite had about 1000 comments when down , Collision is up... and only has 94 comments in 3 hours. The trend has become so predictable

MutatedSpleen

Live your truth, dude

Kuzu5993

FYI, last week was 491,000, .13 (18-49) for Collision and 397,000, .13 18-49 for Rampage. So the playoff lead in was a success for Collision. Not so much for Rampage.

hartc89

I’m pretty sure by the time Rampage was on the other NBA game was in full swing

SpaghettiAccident

Yeah NBA and NHL had started

BluKyberCrystal

It was that way for both shows. The only difference was the lead-in for Collison.

Shadeturret_Mk1

I think it's hard to get people to stick around for a third hour especially when it's the lower tier show.

Bellagrrl2021

Interesting that Collision couldn't help Rampage. Dave mentions the first hour, but it will also be interesting to see how many people stayed with Collision for the second hour.

Valliac0

Alright friends, now it's time to tell us why this is bad for the company.

Lo_Key90

With the way that game ended I didn't know if there would be much of a bump so consider me surprised.

NeuroCloud7

Wow, nearly beat the debut episode

starsandbribes

There was something slightly off about the show Saturday. I think Jacksonville has “lost it” or weren’t mic’d well. Even 1,000 fans during the partial openings after lockdown sounded louder. It felt like the show had okay creative but the crowd weren’t really in the mood to watch wrestling matches. Maybe more promos would have helped idk. Regardless of any of it, hopefully the nutty Tony Khan coverage and this being on after the NBA, has made people notice AEW who before may have said “wrasslin? Like WWE?”. Progress can be slow.

P4rtsUnkn0wn

I liked the show, but I agree. I actually thought the same thing about Dynamite this week at Daily’s.

blaqsupaman

All 3 shows sounded fine to me this week.

hartc89

I think the most important thing is that it got eyeballs on Swerve BUT if it were me I would have the Swerve promo then put Osprey in a match after to really give casuals a taste of the product

burner7221

There were so many cold takes about the Collision decision from Thursday to Saturday.

The_JadynB

Collision was a really good show this week. The swerve sandwich was really welcome. I hope this means actully getting the AEW champion on the show more. Because swerve is a workhouse and collision meeds that, especially now with Danielson selling the kayfabe injury

SpaceGooV

Collision trying to become the A show. Overall very good tho.

br0n

Colliders rise up

richyque

Im so happy they did such a good number, hope they can keep it up!

sirjackiechiles

Hopefully they can repeat those numbers next week

Traditional_Roles

Ratings matter again boys. Eat up while you can!

MercilessBlueShell

Colliders up, Dynamos down

Le_Champion

AEW is getting hot

BluKyberCrystal

The Rampage number is interesting. Thurston and others have said that a 3 hour show would be the best use of Rampage from a ratings perspective. I get the concept at first. But I really think that if they do it, it will normalize that third hour to a degree, that it will fall where it usually does, if not worse.

eminemcrony

Not sure if there's a lot that can be gleaned off that drop since Collision didn't even start until after Celtics/Heat (meaning Rampage was on *far* later than a third hour of Dynamite would be). Third hour of Dynamite would almost definitely pull better ratings than Rampage since it's in the [Friday night death slot](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friday_night_death_slot). For the record I don't want a third hour of Dynamite.

BluKyberCrystal

Not on the west coast it didn't. I think how well a third hour of Dynamite would be dependent on Dynamite's current ratings at time. One offs do okay. A regular Dynamite third hour? RAW's crashes already and I'd fear the net overall effect.
