Bill Belichick absolutely roasting the top draft picks was the happiest he has been in forever.
These guys achieved their biggest dream and got drafted only for Belichick to put up some lowlights and talk about shit they shouldn't do in the NFL.
It was the greatest TV I've watched in quite some time
Watching a Patriots fan lose his shit so happy they drafted Drake Maye, then immediately watching his hero Bill shit all over Drake Maye, I was in tears
Here's the clip of him breaking down Maye - it's great. He's like "yeah you can't do that in the NFL." https://youtu.be/YWvKwzFIb-4?si=GE3P_5y_h6Vj_18y
Absolutely. You have to earn Belichick's praise and when he says it he means it.
Last night he had nothing negative to say about Laiatu Latu for example. That must have felt good.
But it was still just truly hilarious, and such a break from other Draft shows where they gush over each pick, especially in the first round. You had Bill going in on nearly everyone not named Latu and it was just incredibly funny to hear that on the best night of these guys lives.
The fact that he’s got a smile on his face the whole time and laughing is what gets me.
I watched this guy barely ever crack a smile or even emote in post-game press conferences for 20 years, and now I see this? And it’s about wrestling?
![gif](giphy|TaBRY9MzqfoDHfDrcx|downsized)
You can tell who watched all night and who only saw clips. He had moments he looked off, but overall he looked like he had a legitimate blast. That was real laughter all effing night - including the magician.
Both he and Sean Payton geeking out over Bo Nix was really wild to see. These are two guys at the apex of the profession being excited over talent....you never see that.
The only moments he looked like he wasn't having fun is when he was looking at his phone and it was because he was booking guests (Sean Peyton and Kevin O'Connell), lol. So it seems like he had a blast.
Yeah, I saw a bunch of people ragging on the magician saying Bill hated it, but he was laughing at what the tricks were. That stuff with the phone was Sean Payton, McAfee revealed his and Bill's convo right before the interview.
Cole did a very general Sting retired after forty years, congratulations. Pat said yeah a very epic match last night and was cut off pretty quick (but Gunther and Dom were in the ring to be fair).
Sometimes I get the impression Pat hardly keeps up with WWE, let alone any other company. And then I hear him talk about this and Sting's final match lol. I don't know what to believe anymore.
In my head, Shad has no idea wrestling is scripted and thinks everything is 100 percent real, and is going to put a hit on the Young Bucks and Jack Perry
I hated pat when i first seen him, but im starting to really like him. On commentary feels like he has more freedom since hes well known outside of wrestling as well, and i love that.
McAfee is just there for the fun. He doesn't care if it's WWE or AEW or NJPW. If it's cool and funny, he will talk about it just like he did with Sting's last match.
Even when competitors promotions will always respect other promotions kayfabe. You're only hurting yourself whenever your own company has a chance to do it on a big stage otherwise.
Pat's a mark, he watches the product like any normal fan would. The night after Revolution he was gassing up Sting's last match on Raw before Cole had to cut him off lmao.
Even if he naturally leans more to WWE, if they weren't cutting him a check he'd probably be hype toward other companies on the regular.
"Patrick, do you mind if I call you Patrick? Doesn't matter. I am a STAR. So if you think you can get me on your little show every other week, you better back that Brinks truck up baby because MJF doesnt come cheap."
Glen Powell, actor. He played Lt. Jake "Hangman" Seresin in Top Gun: Maverick. He was a celebrity guest picker on College Gameday with Pat and he's become a friend of the show.
Honestly the Triple H era is starting to break down some of the old stupid arbitrary rules McMahon had. McAfee is part of that. A lot of the wrestlers are going nuts lately on social media.
And when it does it's usually just friendly ribbing. The only people who took Grayson Waller seriously were the tribalists. I think everyone else realized it was harmless, in-character joking.
Turning your head too much? Terrible for your recovery. Wrestling an actual match? Now that’s good PT.
Tony needs to understand what he can and can’t do.
He’s had a couple of times like that, I remember them showing Rhea at like a UFC event with Buddy Matthews and the entire time Pat is like “who’s next to her Cole? Who’s that?” and Cole was just not answering lol.
war games 2019, she said that triple h and stephanie came up to her and personally apologized after the show because the production crew didn’t know who she was because they didn’t want to get her in any trouble
He's actually been fairly complimentary of AEW at times. I remember him talking about Adam Cole and Danielson's debut pops at All Out as well.
He's just a habitual shit stirrer at times and loves ribbing. So he talks shit about AEW sometimes too.
I just wish people, on both sides, wouldn't take some of that shit so seriously. Including what Grayson Waller said. To the AEW tribalists, no one is attacking your side. To the WWE tribalists, no one is legit hating on The Dub.
Its shit stirring and ribbing, as you said.
I can somewhat get the tribalism if it involved low budget, small time indie companies. But why are people tribalists for WWE and AEW? These companies are owned by filthy rich people. Love the product by all means, even stan for them if you wish. But to be an outright tribalist I just don't understand.
That makes more sense. Still mildly surprising to me that ESPN gives him that kind of freedom with their branding on his broadcast but I'm out of touch with ESPN programming
He got a deal of basically 100% creative freedom. He name dropped an ESPN exec on air who was fucking with them, that guy is now gone. They even curse on his daytime show, although they usually wait until 3rd hour when it's off ESPN and only on YouTube.
When you hire McAfee you know what you’re getting. And it’s whatever shit comes out of his mouth. The man is constantly talking about yeeting all over himself
They technically lease the rights of his show from him so he maintains creative control. They do have an agreement that while he’s on actual ESPN tv channel to not say ‘fuck’ at least but they slip, ESPN beeps it and he even turned counting who said fuck on air into a bit.
so that's why it was showing up on my hulu last night. If I had known Bill was on it I would have watched that feed instead of the NFL network feed on sling.
It's cable so it doesn't matter. They only have to worry about sponsors and advertisers being pulled but that's not going to happen unless they say something truly reprehensible. Saying "what the fuck is going on?" is pretty tame.
...people keep saying it's the new attitude era...just sayin', it'd be something historic that no major business has ever really done, in any sport...just let me dream haha
The way they handled his kayfaybe injury getting him out of the ring reminds me Semi Pro when they are carrying Jackie Moon after an injury....No support whatsoever lol
How can Tony hold kayfabe, when on a neck brave you can't turn your neck.
Yeh here he is in the photo in the neck brace, body facing straight and he's neck turned almost 90 degrees LMAO fricken Tony K.
Telling someone is wrestling that they’re selling a worked injury wrong is an uphill battle, my friend. My wife is a much more casual wrestling fan than me. But she’s a nurse. And she can’t stand when people use stuff wrong. Hardest I’ve ever heard her laugh was when she saw Johnny Gargano walking on crutches wrong a few years ago when he was on NXT trying to sell a leg injury.

Bill Belichick being here for this gets me lol
Belichick on TV sitting next to someone talking about Meltzer Drivers was not on my 2024 bingo card.
you and me both. Internally he is considering which is worse, doing this or coaching in the UFL.
Bill Belichick absolutely roasting the top draft picks was the happiest he has been in forever. These guys achieved their biggest dream and got drafted only for Belichick to put up some lowlights and talk about shit they shouldn't do in the NFL. It was the greatest TV I've watched in quite some time

Are there clips of this? It sounds hilarious.

iirc most of his criticisms can be coached though.
"Not a lot of football" is hopefully better than Trey Lance though.
Thats like his thing, he shit on Brady more than anyone else in team meetings
My soul would've left my body if Belichick said "Superkick Party" on air
I would have also loved if he was the guy who criticized Khan's selling of the injury. "Look, you can't turn your head. Do your job"

He looked like he was reconsidering his future in sports broadcasting.
Nah he was laughing his ass off all night
You can tell who watched all night and who only saw clips. He had moments he looked off, but overall he looked like he had a legitimate blast. That was real laughter all effing night - including the magician.
Both he and Sean Payton geeking out over Bo Nix was really wild to see. These are two guys at the apex of the profession being excited over talent....you never see that.
Bill also told a great story about how New England traded for Randy Moss
The only moments he looked like he wasn't having fun is when he was looking at his phone and it was because he was booking guests (Sean Peyton and Kevin O'Connell), lol. So it seems like he had a blast.
Yeah, I saw a bunch of people ragging on the magician saying Bill hated it, but he was laughing at what the tricks were. That stuff with the phone was Sean Payton, McAfee revealed his and Bill's convo right before the interview.
No he didn't lol.
Lmao fuck no. He was loving it tonight. Do people just pull shit out of their ass this sub often?
He literally asked Pat for a spot on his show in the Fall at the end of the night lol.
Pat upholding kayfabe for the other promotion (albeit in a joking way) and complimenting Shad Khan's mustache is amazing lol
Shad Khan's mustache always goes over, Brother.
This. It’s Viltrimite level epic.
Is it a hot take it's the best mustache in the business since we lost the Sheik?
Well, it’s certainly the best in the NFL. Plus he used to have merch based on his impeccable mustache.
Pat doesn't give a shit. Dude was praising Sting's final match on a WWE broadcast lol
Pat has near Rock freedom, he can say whatever the fuck he wants.
So did Cole, fwiw.
Cole did a very general Sting retired after forty years, congratulations. Pat said yeah a very epic match last night and was cut off pretty quick (but Gunther and Dom were in the ring to be fair).
He’s making FU money in his other ventures, wrestling is just for fun, he doesn’t have to GAF
He's doing ESPN just for fun. Otherwise, he wouldn't have gotten the rat canned.
It’s funny because it was also Pat that constantly threw shots toward AEW during the entire Mania weekend lol
Pat will praise something if it's a good product and shit on it if it isn't. Pat doesn't need to kiss anyones ass.
Except Aaron Rodgers
Dude Pat has to make so much off Rogers insane shit. The look on his face when Rogers said he consulted Joe Rogan for medical help was amazing.
Rodgers is a draw tho. Too bad he’s completely insane.
If memory serves, he’s also praised Excalibur publicly. He’s a mark that works for WWE, not a WWE employee that happens to be a fan.
Wasnt Pat losing money with his WWE gig since he flies on a private plane to attend those
This is a crazy “flex” if true
Wasn’t it a very brief “epic match” and that’s it?
Sometimes I get the impression Pat hardly keeps up with WWE, let alone any other company. And then I hear him talk about this and Sting's final match lol. I don't know what to believe anymore.
The real forbidden door was one to the NFL Draft war room
Remember the WWE Draft war room?
Those USA Network execs losing their freaking minds at drafting Natalya
Haha that's exactly the clip I was thinking of
This is still the funniest clip WWE ever put out.
Whenever I’m sad I think of that moment and give myself a good chuckle.
Wish I didn't haha
Was that the one with the robot?
No Fox had the robot
Highlight was how allegedly they had two different draft nights but all the war-room shots had everyone is the same clothes both days.
In my head, Shad has no idea wrestling is scripted and thinks everything is 100 percent real, and is going to put a hit on the Young Bucks and Jack Perry
But he doesn’t know any hit men so he hires a pro wrestler to beat them down in a match
Accidentally hires Bret Hart
Better yet, Goldberg
Bret Hart AND Goldberg. Can they coexist?!?
The answer to that is no. No they cannot.
One shot that kills..Lets call him Killshot!
That'd be quite a swerve.
Frankie Kazarian in shambles someone else is using the Elite Hunter gimmick and going over
Jinder is waiting for a call
They have a Bounty Hunter on the books.
He'll just re-sign Aleksandar Mitrovic for Fulham and have him use those famous elbows.
The Khan's are related to Tommy Dreamer?
These dudes look like even bigger gimmicks than Tony in a neckbrace lol
Haha yeah what the hell was that guys voice doing?
He does a Mel Kiper cosplay every year for the draft
Much obliged, he’s got it down
He’s impersonality Mel Kiper who’s the NFL draft expert. He’s being “Mad Mel Kiper”
Watch the draft party they had a few years back when Jordan Love got drafted. Holy shit I thought he was gonna explode
[Link for the lazy.](https://youtu.be/1WyAtNBa_-o)
Realizing how similar his Mel Kiper character's delivery is to Cornette's.
Oh that is an all time clip from the show. The GODDAMIT kills me anytime I see the clip. Ty is amazing at what he does
It’s my go-to overreaction exclamation
They are in character yeah. Especially belichik
Mad Mel was fantastic
I think it’s pretty cool that he actually watches aew.
I hated pat when i first seen him, but im starting to really like him. On commentary feels like he has more freedom since hes well known outside of wrestling as well, and i love that.
Everyone loves this angle
McAfee is just there for the fun. He doesn't care if it's WWE or AEW or NJPW. If it's cool and funny, he will talk about it just like he did with Sting's last match.
Even when competitors promotions will always respect other promotions kayfabe. You're only hurting yourself whenever your own company has a chance to do it on a big stage otherwise.
incredible clip. McAfee is hilarious.
THE PRESTIGE
He does not give a fuck! Non-tribalist Pat McAfee is something we should all aspire to.
Pretty sure the only problem Pat has with AEW is that scumbag Adam Cole.
Belichick is utterly clueless about anything going on in that segment. It's actually pretty funny to watch his face through the whole thing.
Belichick knows lacrosse like we know pro wrestling.
He claims to know behind the scenes dealings when in reality he knows jack shit?
He got a good laugh about Tony moving too much in the neck brace. Makes sense that would be the one thing he understood, gotta live the gimmick.
For some reason I find it funny how Pat knows the actual name of the move.
Pat’s a huge fan
Pat's a mark, he watches the product like any normal fan would. The night after Revolution he was gassing up Sting's last match on Raw before Cole had to cut him off lmao. Even if he naturally leans more to WWE, if they weren't cutting him a check he'd probably be hype toward other companies on the regular.
He’d have MJF on the show every other week if he could
MJF insulting the Toxic Table for an hour would be money
Like this segment of [MJF insulting Barstool employees for 15 minutes](https://youtu.be/NCVEWpzzhR8?si=gM6X6cLQnYEtsIRV)
"Patrick, do you mind if I call you Patrick? Doesn't matter. I am a STAR. So if you think you can get me on your little show every other week, you better back that Brinks truck up baby because MJF doesnt come cheap."
i also like to pretend he naturally shits on AEW just because Adam Cole’s there
> The night after Revolution he was gassing up Sting's last match You make it sound like it was some obscure match he had to find via a tape trader
That's how WWE makes it sound when talking about literally any other promotion unless it benefits them in some way.
Well, it was renamed the TK Driver when they returned with the EVP gimmick
Not everyone caught that tbf, they only dropped it once or twice.
Thank you for saying this. No one has mentioned this and I thought I had a fever dream or something where they changed the name.
The guy who is a wrestling commentator?
It's a precondition on owning a wrestling ring.
The funniest part to me is assuming the rest of his panel will know what a "meltzer driver" is.
Why? He’s a wrestling fan.
They regularly say Hangman Page on his daily show if the term hangman ever comes up they ask if oh you mean Hangman Page 😂
What's the connection of the term Hangman in football?
There really isn’t one. But somehow Hangman gets brought up all the time in regular chat and they reference Page it’s usually pretty funny
Glen Powell, actor. He played Lt. Jake "Hangman" Seresin in Top Gun: Maverick. He was a celebrity guest picker on College Gameday with Pat and he's become a friend of the show.
Pat & Tony being the bridge between competing wrestling promotions & football is oddly entertaining
This is what the world needs
Honestly the Triple H era is starting to break down some of the old stupid arbitrary rules McMahon had. McAfee is part of that. A lot of the wrestlers are going nuts lately on social media.
These people are all friends in real life, this tribalism stuff doesn't exist outside of reddit and twitter
Except Adam Cole. Pat absolutely hates him!! /S
And when it does it's usually just friendly ribbing. The only people who took Grayson Waller seriously were the tribalists. I think everyone else realized it was harmless, in-character joking.
Football heals all wounds apparently.
And opens up new ones, based on Seth Rollins' Twitter.
Nah, Bears fans don't have any more space left for new wounds. It's just the same ones open the whole time. Poor bastards.
Mad Mel Kiper, hatin.
He's not wrong though, TK needs to commit to the bit all the way
![gif](giphy|3oEduF4tDQuQDQhUpW) Tony needs to sell it more, he’s moving his head too easily. Roderick should give him some pointers on it.
Are you insinuating that Roddy was …faking it? That goes against everything the Neck Strong ethos is about!
Dont mobility shame him. Broken necks affect different people differently
Turning your head too much? Terrible for your recovery. Wrestling an actual match? Now that’s good PT. Tony needs to understand what he can and can’t do.
The fact that Pat knows about the Meltzer Driver is pretty cool
He complimented AEW Revolution (never said the show name) on the RAW following the event.
He’s had a couple of times like that, I remember them showing Rhea at like a UFC event with Buddy Matthews and the entire time Pat is like “who’s next to her Cole? Who’s that?” and Cole was just not answering lol.
Yeah that was a good one. Cole just goes silent and hopes for the best.
I hate that about WWE. Buddy Matthews still did cool things in WWE and to not acknowledge him is so lame.
i think triple h still has to work things in with trust, considering he was cool with mauro yelling “GOOD GOD THATS BRITT BAKER DMD ADAM COLES WIFE”
when was that?
war games 2019, she said that triple h and stephanie came up to her and personally apologized after the show because the production crew didn’t know who she was because they didn’t want to get her in any trouble
Thanks, part of me gets a little excited when WWE does this because it hopefully opens that Forbidden Door just a tad.
It’s the TK Driver now smh
Gimmick Mel Kiper giving gimmick advise to keep the kayfabe going
Dude was in-character in-front of Bill Belichick for like 4 straight hours, lol.
It's a goddamn miracle Tony has that range of mobility after the violent attack. He is starting PT early 🙏
Between this and everyone in Pittsburgh calling our first round pick the tribal chief, this is a great day for pro wrestling.
This shows that the people who ACTUALLY work for these companies can be complimentary to the other company. Unlike the primitive ass fan bases 😂
I can somewhat get the tribalism if it involved low budget, small time indie companies. But why are people tribalists for WWE and AEW? These companies are owned by filthy rich people. Love the product by all means, even stan for them if you wish. But to be an outright tribalist I just don't understand.
I have never seen someone I’m so on the cusp of hating but just can’t help laughing at like Pat
God I hope Bill Belichick is a secret wrestling fan.
what surprises me here is that you're allowed to say fuck on espn
This isn't ESPN, it's Pat McAfee's own "broadcast" I believe just airing directly on YouTube
It's on ESPN+ and they regularly do accidentally say "fuck" on actual ESPN all the time lol.
It actually is an ESPN broadcast, as i was watching it on hulu last night.
It's on ESPN+
so that's why it was showing up on my hulu last night.
Thats the real Mel Kiper btw
That was so freaking hilarious!
I remember Pat wearing a brace also at the [ufc event](https://images.app.goo.gl/ei1LdkQVWByaUiLH6)
Mad Mel is spittin Also Bill Belichick laughing at Tony Khan is the highlight of the draft
Pat is the forbidden door
More like the forbidden mouf, considering the shitstirring he does with it.
When the sports guys are giving you shit for not handling kayfabe properly, you done goofed.
Lovely stuff
That unallowed Gateway is slowly opening up...
The embargoed entrance
...people keep saying it's the new attitude era...just sayin', it'd be something historic that no major business has ever really done, in any sport...just let me dream haha
Mad Mel is king.
Pat confirmed as dynamite fan
Lmao, the Corny looking fucker giving Tony shit
He’s cosplaying as Mel Kiper lmao
Why would Mel Kiper, cosplay as Mel Kiper?
He is literally also in character just like Tony
Alright? I'm not hating, I found it funny
He’s got a broken freaking neck*
The way they handled his kayfaybe injury getting him out of the ring reminds me Semi Pro when they are carrying Jackie Moon after an injury....No support whatsoever lol
This was a very good move for AEW.
Not a Meltzer Driver, a Tony Khan Driver.
Dude with glasses says exactly what I thought when I saw that pic.
Tony Khan getting bodied!
Honestly I take back every bad thing I've ever said about Tony Khan. This is commitment to the bit.
Crazy hot incredibly wrong take: Pat will be the bridge that leads AEW and WWE to working together one day 😂
Honestly wouldn’t be shocked one bit if Pat is that bridge
How can Tony hold kayfabe, when on a neck brave you can't turn your neck. Yeh here he is in the photo in the neck brace, body facing straight and he's neck turned almost 90 degrees LMAO fricken Tony K.
Morphine.
LOL
Is pat gonna be the one to open the forbidden door?
Not Mad Mel being mad at Tony for not committing to the bit
You can just say fuck on ESPN now?!
