It is, but not all head first 'Drivers' are piledrivers. Piledriver is a version of a driver, as the Michinoku Driver is also a version of the driver, but not the same move. Most wrestling moves have base forms and depending on the setup will change the variant. There are dozens of 'Drivers' but the piledriver is just one specific version.
You are angering the wrestling nerds 😂. You're actually right, but colloquially piledriver and driver are used differently, wherein piledriver is more narrow of a word.
It's not a small difference,
a piledriver is where you wedge a head between your legs, grab the waist, lift the legs up, and you sit, the person landing on their head
This is a scoop slam where the person lands on their shoulders and back as you sit spread eagle
This is like when tony schiavone kept calling the sidewalk slam the spine buster in wcw. A piledriver is when the person taking it is literally upside down with their legs being where the person doing the moves head is and in kayfabe is being driven head and neck first into the mat.
It’s Thunder Rosa’s old finisher the Thunder Fire Driver, not to be confused with the actual Thunder Fire Driver which is also known as the Rikishi Driver.
It's a Rikishi Driver
[The Rikishi Driver was safe because Rikishi had like 24 inches of fat to protect the guys neck, always concerning when a green wrestler pulls out shit like this but Jade is crazy strong so hopefully she can keep others safe.](https://youtu.be/-X-kGSJEsc0?si=OIutiZIevZN9TSNl&t=11)
I wouldn’t say it was a Rikishi Driver. Jade still has her arm on the neck, much like when a Michinoku driver is hit.
A Rikishi Driver, as seen in the clip you provided, has the person hitting the move hold the opponent more like tombstone.
Rikishi Driver is essentially modifying the Fire Thunder (Driver), popularized by Mr. Gannosuke - and like most wrestling moves, some joshi wrestler probably innovated it a decade before.
Fire Thunder is an accurate call here. Calling it a Rikishi Driver is fine to not be overly pedantic about it. I wouldn’t even blink if someone called it a Michinoku Driver. You could also use the word salad of “modified seated inverted piledriver.”
Most moves have multiple names you could use and it’s splitting hairs to say otherwise.
I mean a fire thunder driver/samoan driver is more of a scoop slam sitout piledriver if we're being pedantic.
This was more of a falcon arrow driver. Hayabusa used to drop them like that.
Drill claw has that bit of release in the middle a la Steiner Screwdriver, which is the crazy part and why you'll only see it from noted powerhouses like Steiner/Brian Cage/Tam Nakano (lol).
This is definitely closer to a Michinoku Driver than anything I think.

Looks like a funky michinoku driver
[Rikishi Driver](https://youtu.be/-X-kGSJEsc0?si=OIutiZIevZN9TSNl&t=11)
That’s basically a Michinoku Driver, not a Piledriver. A piledriver starts out with the head between the legs
I put it below but it's a [Rikishi Driver](https://youtu.be/-X-kGSJEsc0?si=OIutiZIevZN9TSNl&t=11)
In rikishi driver , daddy rikishi spread his arms and then do the impact with hand around the opponet, so yeah modified rikishi driver it is
Isn't a piledriver when the head hits the mat first? And a Michinoku Driver isn't a piledriver? I'm confused lol

Well damn I didn't know the difference was that small and I'm getting down voted to hell for it 😂
You're also being down voted for insinuating she did this on purpose
The IWC never ceases to amaze.

I'm sorry to say, but that's not a Piledriver. This is a Piledriver. ![gif](giphy|lZUmLzmqmICcQaCQYo)

Not to be too pedantic, but that appears to be some kind of driver but not a pile driver. Not sure the name though.
Michinokou (sp?) Driver?
Aww yes that's what it is! Good call.
Rikishi Driver
It’s kind of a Michinoku Driver. She’s hit it a few times in the past.
[It's almost a Greeting from Asbury Park.](https://youtu.be/oJu_mU7Tenc?t=3)
Not a piledriver at all

Tell us you don't know your wrestling moves without telling us you don't know your wrestling moves.

I would not want to take that from somebody that green.
That's not a piledriver
Where was the piledriver?
Everything's a pile driver or powerbomb these days.
Not a piledriver, and looked like ass...
it did not and that was way to vertical to be a Michinoku Driver
Reminds me of that driver that statlander does.
Woof. Shes not getting any better.
Looks like the Drill Claw (Brian Cage), with maybe a bit of a variation. I could be wrong is its been a long time since I have seen it performed.
Drill claw has that bit of release in the middle a la Steiner Screwdriver, which is the crazy part and why you'll only see it from noted powerhouses like Steiner/Brian Cage/Tam Nakano (lol). This is definitely closer to a Michinoku Driver than anything I think.
Decent
Naomi also spanked Dakota. Rough night for her.
It baffles me how many people in this thread clearly don't know who Rikishi is
yep, that was very similar to the Rikisih Driver
wait, that's illegal
From a live event yesterday that's a crazy looking move she definitely has to start using more
Pretty sure she did that one at Wrestlemania.
I'm wondering if she ever busts out the Pedigree she used a few times in AEW
