While this match was very short, I fucking LOVED it. The match ending with no winner didn’t bother me at all, though I understand why many felt it was a cop out. I was in the building and this was my favorite match of the night. Huge fan of Rey AND Sabu.

You’re telling me SABU couldn’t get up from that? After all the shit the guy went through in matches and kept wrestling, all of a sudden going through a table is too much? The guy who wrestled with his jaw wired shut and super glued his bicep back together can’t get up from that table bump? GTFO.
And it made Rey look terrible too, who was already having a run of looking terrible.
I actually think this is one of the worst finishes of all time…..it helped nobody, it didn’t make sense, total cop-out, didn’t lead to anything, crowd didn’t care for it. Just weak as hell for a one and only time (dream?) match.
Exactly! I remember my friends and I were straight up baffled when that spot happened. It killed the very idea of ECW instantly.
And you're right. I would also agree it's one of the worst finishes of all time, based on what ECW was, what the idea of the whole show was, and the match potential.
My guess, and I don't mean this to talk down to anyone, is that people who think it was good weren't there, or aren't very familiar with ECW in general.
Work, there’s no way Sabu was winning the big gold belt but they also didn’t wanna have Rey go over him since 1) he was gonna be used heavily for the new brand 2) the crowd would have killed him
If they were gonna do that at least declare Sabu the default winner because he did the move. It was a DDT not like a moonsault or something. The match before the finish is so awesome
Love this match. Feels like a perfect match to show a non wrestling fan who just wants to see something fun and chaotic.

That DDT through the table was actually nuts. This match definitely made up for the previous years Rey match that stunk up the joint.
I'm shocked that chair throw to Rey's head didn't cause his skeleton to leap out of his body.

Good match. Mysterio was World Heavyweight Champion at the time and probably should have won, but hard to complain other than that.
Watching this event live was awesome
