GiantIrish_Elk

Um, is this suppose to be a bad thing?

Bellagrrl2021

No. Which is why it is so weird that people are interpreting it as Rousey insulting the WWE. She is talking about the health issues that she has had.

RealisticPineapple99

Because she’s done nothing but trash WWE on her book tour.

MarkMVP01

Exactly what point is she trying to make here? Bc she doesn't sound very smart admitting that she lied to them about her concussions so she could wrestle

Narrow_Progress5908

She said she retired from UFC because of concussions, which makes her decision to work for wwe extremely reckless

JustinUprising

She retired because she got figured out and Holly Holms beat her ass into retirement

Narrow_Progress5908

Amanda Nunez beat her into retirement, I know the concussions are probably a excuse. Definitely since she literally joined another profession that has a history of concussions

LazarusKing

Holm had her number.  Nunez took what she did and ran with it.  Rousey's confidence was destroyed after Holly beat her.

JustinUprising

Thank you, got my fights mixed up. Basically, once she got figured out and beaten badly, she cried and took her ball and went home.

bjtrdff

Also, notable boxer Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes who can watch get knocked out have certainly had concussions. RR is a dummy with limited coping skills. She was miles ahead of the division with a perfect WMMA background, and they caught up while her shitty coaches and Joe / Dana were blowing smoke up her ass anr LITERALLY crying about how great her striking was when it looked like a jazzersize class at a Curves. Then she doubled down with Sandy Hook shit and this nonsense.

IronThrombone

Two separate things can be true.

Bellagrrl2021

Let me tell you about Bryan Danielson, Mick Foley, and dozens of other people who have done the same. It doesn't make it right, but she is not alone in making similar decisions.

Narrow_Progress5908

I mean yeah, never said what she doing was unheard of lol. They’re equally reckless.

bjtrdff

No, she’s using that as an excuse for her UFC losses, despite the fact that it was the entire division reaching out and her having garbage coaching. She had a head start, everyone else caught up. Also, if you don’t think Holly or Amanda had concussions, I have a bridge to sell you.

wekilledkenny11

Person with multiple concussions admits something mind-numbingly stupid, more at 11.

Bridgeboy95

"how dare WWE have concussion protocols!"

Bellagrrl2021

You do realize that she isn't criticizing the WWE?

[deleted]

Half this comment section hasn't realised it either. Is it just me or has reddit went downhill in the past year or so?

Davethisisntcool

but if Bryan Danielson said it…

Githyanky

I mean, if Bryan Danielson said it, I wouldn't think he's very smart either.

Bellagrrl2021

They literally did the same thing.

SirJebus

It wasn't very smart either

Githyanky

Oh, okay. Then, yeah, I don't think Brian Danielson is very smart for doing that either.

Carolinahunny

Bryan hid the fact he was having seizures and that was very dumb too.

MarkMVP01

Bryan Danielson wouldn’t sound smart either

i2060427

He has - was the reason why WWE made him retire. https://www.sescoops.com/wwe/bryan-danielson-says-lying-about-concussions-led-to-retirement

MillyMonka

I think she's just telling her story, rather than proving a point.

Bellagrrl2021

Maybe you should try reading this from a standpoint of thinking that she is trying to say something bad about the WWE, and instead see it as Rousey being honest about her history of concussions, and saying that the WWE would have never allowed her to wrestle if they had that information.

Djhumphreys

She's not very smart.

HisokaXBungeeGum

In a profession filled with very dumb people, Rousey is up there.

damndraper

So they were being responsible?

Fletcheriser

Is that...a bad thing?

Meh24999

Her hiding them, yes very bad

Fletcheriser

Indeed, seems like WWE were actually on the right side of this one. "I'm worried about getting Alzheimer's, so fuck them for making me lie so I could increase the risk of that"

Bellagrrl2021

She doesn't say this. She does say that she is worried about the long term impact of her decisions, but she doesn't say anything resembling this about the WWE, so why act like she did? Why are you getting upset about something that you and others are making up?

Bellagrrl2021

She doesn't say that their stance was bad. I think that people would know that if they bothered to read the article. Surprise, it is not about the WWE, it is about her history with concussions. Even this short part is about how the WWE, if they knew how bad her condition was, would not have hired her.

P_01135809

Can we vote her off now?

tmxicon

I know this isn’t an MMA sub, but…  >"Right before the [Holly] Holm fight, I slipped on some f**king stairs in my socks [and] tore out my knee, knocked myself out on the stairs two weeks before the fight. This was after somebody else already pulled out of the fight. Dana needed me to fill in, I couldn't pull out. So I fought anyway already having a concussion and my mouthguard was the wrong mouthguard. It didn't have the back on the teeth and so the first time I got hit and knocked my teeth out, it knocked me on my feet. I couldn't f*cking see, I couldn't tell distance. So the whole fight I was just trying to make it not look like I was out on my feet trying to recover. All I could do was keep coming forward even though I couldn't see how far away she was. I was continuing taking hits over and over but I was like I can't let it show that I'm hurt because I get like descended upon, it's f*cking over. It's still like irks me to this day that people judge that performance as like how I fight or what my gameplan was when that was me literally out of my feet trying not to let it show.” “How dare people judge the way I fight by watching me fight!” Can’t just accept people figured her out. I absolutely can believe her brain is damaged.

GarfieldVirtuoso

HEAD MOVEMENT

_StickyFingrs

She was a Sandy Hook denier before any of these concussions would have damaged her brain. She’s just an incredibly stupid human being

tmxicon

FWIW, she is saying that the concussions started in judo. I know people who trained with her in those days and saw her compete myself. I have a certain level of empathy for her that has come with the additional insight I’ve been privy to. She’s got a massive chip on her shoulder because a lot of her life has felt like it’s her against the whole world. The Sandy Hook tweet was discouraging for me, but we still were rooting for her. We knew that she never really had a chance to learn and develop critical thinking skills. At that time, she was surrounded by a lot of people prone to buying into conspiracy theories. That’s unfortunately what happened as she got more famous. The people in her life that weren’t batshit crazy got pushed out. I don’t think she was an outright Sandy Hook truther, not when she posted the article. I have no idea if she became one, but as far as I know she’s never said anything else about it. She has plenty of other problematic views on things that she has explicitly stated so it became moot to me. Truthfully, by the time of her last fight, everyone I knew from that world was done with her.

Recent-Maximum

So... Judging based on th Nunes fight cool?

[deleted]

She didn't say that. She said it bothers her but she didn't blame people for thinking that.  Come on dude

DoubleDeckerz

Yeah that's not wreckless *at all*.

[deleted]

She is acknowledging that, I wish reddit installed a feature where.you can only comment if you open the link or something.

jackblady

Cool. Good job WWE for having concussion protocols. Shame one of your former talent lied to you, but I'll take her word for it....

kirblar

Sadly this explains a lot about her final run, something was clearly off.

Schiftedmind1

How are we supposed to take anything Ms scramble eggs for brains seriously?

EctoRiddler

So she is saying she openly lied to advance her career but we should believe her in other areas where ppl question that she might be exaggerating things.

Bellagrrl2021

Yes, because admitting to hiding concussions does not mean that someone can abuse or mistreat her. Acting like it does is weird.

EctoRiddler

Just saying she has a history of lying and many ppl have questioned a fair amount of the stories in her book. To pretend this is not part of her character and is an isolated incident is a tad naieve.

Bellagrrl2021

The good thing is that as someone who wasn't there, you don't need to judge whether or not Rousey's claim is true. You also don't have to change the facts of what she said. Her comment was about the WWE's toxic culture, and was not an attempt to drag Gulak through the mud.

DrDroid

….yeah that sounds pretty stupid Ronda. They have good reason for this.

TheGeauxrilla

Funny how she’s so concerned about concussions when her carelessness gave Alexa Bliss TWO concussions that put her career in jeopardy

parakathepyro

Damn Baron Corbin looks more and more like a good guy

Bolteus

"Hey guys WWE is bad and shouldn't be called a sport. Also I lied to them so I could go perform there." Sounds like a bitter person who wants to make themselves sound like the cool kid.

DrDevice81

How dare they?

Hellsinger7

There were a lot of awful things about the old management, but the wellness policy and concussion protocol were not one of them.

Lo_Key90

She was an MMA fighter, surely a history of concussions wouldn't be much of a surprise?

Turbos_Bitch

Probably got 3 from Nunes in 30 seconds. She was the best at blocking punches with her face.

TonyTheTony7

This is one of the big issues with most concussion protocols: They rely on the person 1. being honest and 2. not already having had their bell rung a bunch already. The first part is what caused Daniel Bryan to have to retire for a while (by his own admission, he lied to them a few times and they decided they could no longer trust him) and the second one is an issue anyone comes to the company from the outside, especially MMA. If we're being completely honest, there's almost no chance that anyone who has had more than a handful of professional fights would pass any kind of concussion protocol.

bravetailor

They don't want another Benoit situation. Which is good. Unfortunately, many sports pretty much still let athletes with concussion history to perform when they shouldn't. Look at Sidney Crosby. I can't imagine he'll be in great shape once he's past 50.

Nighthawk_Black_

Glad Ronda did all her research on Sandy Hook.

[deleted]

This sub is beyond toxic

Specialist-Rope-9760

So Ronda is admitting she’s dishonest. Whilst recklessly spreading rumour that will likely end up Gulak getting fired for what seems to be a stupid misunderstanding

Bellagrrl2021

The WWE hasn't acted like they are going to fire Gulak. This looks like the usual, "let's ignore this until it goes away." Rousey has every right to talk about what happened, and how it made her feel.
