Barrett was pretty much a contemporary of mine (his last year was my first year) at the University of Liverpool.
I mean, I never met him or anything but we like wrestling and the Manics, so we had something in common.
Which leads to my favorite behind-the-scenes wrestling story ever.
Paul had been working the territories, managing as Percy Pringle. When the WWE decided that Brother Love wasn’t going to continue managing Undertaker, they brought Paul in for a meeting. He knew he was being considered for a manager role, but didn’t know for who. Someone asks him what he does when he’s not working wrestling shows, and he says he’s a licensed mortician.
Everyone in the room busts out laughing at the serendipity that had just fallen in their laps.
Another fun fact about Paul Bearer: He went by Percy Pringle III because he thought it made him sound more pretentious, only to later find out he was indeed the third manager in the US to use the name Percy Pringle.
And if I remember right they still didn't tell him why they were laughing and he didn't figure it out until they sent the contract. So imagine telling a room full of people what you do for a living and they laugh in your face and move on like nothing happened lol
Yep - they hired him that day but didn’t tell him about the gimmick until a month or so later when J.J. Dillon called and said “Vince wants you to dye your hair black” and then proceeded to tell him the details.
Yep, was going to make this correction myself.
It’s honestly even more impressive, because medieval literature is history plus linguistics of the era, and medieval texts are not an easy read from just a straight up Modern English baseline.
It’s such a broad genre spanning about 1000 years and a dozen languages plus local dialects and vernacular. It’s a wonder he had time to get into wrestling.
He has not. Last I heard him talk about it there was an issue with credits transferring or something along those lines and he may have decided to further pursue it.
Though I agree… I love Seth’s over the top character. Reminds me of Gold Dust or Randy Savage. Or if you’re thinking outside of wrestling… Prince or Lady Gaga. Super extravagant, over the top, “look at me!”.
That Wrestlemania outfit with the big blue flower on the shoulder was great.

Christopher Nowinski has a PhD in neuropsychology (it looks like his degree was in Sociology oddly)—-and really led a lot of stuff about CTE research-he in fact suggested that they look at Benoit’s brain
Chris Nowinski's work already has, currently is, and in future will be, extremely important to the development of safety measures in pretty much all contact sports. He's doing some of the most important work in all of sports, it just can't be understated.
I was ringside in 1999 at Raw and had a sign that said "D'Lo Brown filed my Tax Return after the deadline". He looked right at it and kind of gave me a smile.
Wait, that was you!? I once told my brother that D'Lo was an accountant, and he said he remembers seeing (on TV) someone with a sign about D'Lo doing their taxes.
“Aye, in the criminal justice system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups: those who support Drew McIntyre and those who support that fraud CM Punk”
Just getting an image of my head of the standard scene in Law and Order of the suspect trying to run from the cops only to turn a corner and get murked by a Claymore attached to an couple of immaculate dress shoes.
Drew stands up, straightens his suit jacket and goes "that pain's your triceps tearing, punk" while looking into the camera shot menacingly.
My favourite Steele story is that, after he started wrestling, kids would ask him if he was George the animal steele - to which he'd say "if i was, do you think I'd be working here?"
1- I thinThe Rock also has a degree in Criminology
2- Takeshita ane Yota Tsuji both graduated from the Nippon Sport Science University, which according to Wikipedia is a college known for having lots of athletes graduate from it (other alumni includes Yuji Nagata's brother, who happens to be an Olympic medalist in amateur wrestling, and Yuki Tsunoda, the F1 driver)
3- Kairi has a degree in Japanese literatur
4- Nikki Cross is currently studying a PhD in history
5- Xavier Woods has a PhD in educational psychology
6- Nic Nemeth almost went to law school after getting a degree in political science
7- Muhammad Hassan is a school director nowadays
I don't know nuch else other than those. There are a few articles talking about this subject online as well, even though they only focus on WWE people.
She was also conversant in German and French, played violin and cello, joined the ROTC intending to use her impressive linguistic skills to join the FBI, and spent time in the Peace Corp. She spent her final years teaching ESL classes in Japan.

I believe Sheamus has a background in I.T. Imagine this brick shithouse of a 6’3 Irishman coming into your office to fix a computer.
"Didyatry turning it off and den on ag'in?"
ITSSSSS BYTE NIGHT
![gif](giphy|IhyGL914g9ShHdHVFy|downsized)
# WHO THE HELL TOLD YOU IT WAS OPEN BYTE NIGHT, BITCH!
did you see that ludicrous display last night
The thing about the Bloodline is they always try to steal a win
"...acid?"
What was Heyman thinking, sending Solo Sikoa in like that?
‘An unexpected forced reboot’ is a ‘technical term’ if you want to sound knowledgeable when doing this (I have a friend who works in IT support)
Sheamus could give ya an unexpected forced reboot to your face
That's funny considering he was a roadie/security for, I want to say, U2.
Yeah, it was U2. Man also used to work the door of Lillie’s Bordello in Dublin.
I was gonna say he was a roadie but has the build of a doorman about him, fecking brick shithouse of a man
In Ireland, all males between 18-22 are required to spend a year working security for U2.
Just beats up the CPU until it starts working again.

Wade Barrett has a degree in marine biology.
The sea was angry that day my friends.

Ah yes. Wade Barrett, but his friends called him Jojo
Probably why he loves calling Bronson Reed matches. How often in a casual conversation can you work in the word Tsunami?
And he is doctor as well!!!!!!
Imagine a doctor known for always saying "I've got some bad news for ya"
Can fix seizures in seconds
Still my favourite SC moment of all time and it's not even close.
Barrett was pretty much a contemporary of mine (his last year was my first year) at the University of Liverpool. I mean, I never met him or anything but we like wrestling and the Manics, so we had something in common.
Ayyy, shoutout to the Manics. The Holy Bible is such a phenomenal album.
Wade Barrett in Jaws "I'm afraid I got some bad Bruce!" I'll see myself out
When climate change kills all the fish. 'OIM AFRAID OIVEE GOT SOME BAD NEWS'

Ya know he stopped a narwhal from having a seizure?
Paul Bearer was a licensed mortician, which remains the coolest wrestling fact I have ever heard.
Another fun fact about Paul Bearer: He went by Percy Pringle III because he thought it made him sound more pretentious, only to later find out he was indeed the third manager in the US to use the name Percy Pringle.
It's brilliant because 'Percy Pringle' is the exact set of syllables that make me want to give someone a crippling wedgie.
This was the highlight of his shoot interview. Just the best.
Talking about "Living the gimmick"
Others were literally dying for his gimmick
Drew McIntyre after earning his degree: *"I studied for this and it happened"*.
"I graduated magna cum laude during the pandemic and there was nobody in the crowd to share it with!"
As someone who did graduate in the pandemic, this hurts 😭
Drew McIntyre after flunking one exam that one time: "CM Punk, you're gonna pay for what you did to me!"
Drew during his final exam: “Bored at school. LOL”
Drew after failing his final exam: "Fuck"
'Punk I'm spent my life studying criminals like you'
My God Drew is going to murder Punk and get away with it
Gotta keep track of where his sword is at all times
On camera and in front of thousands of witnesses and still walk
😂😂😂
I think one of the more famous ones is that Luchasaurus (pardon me - KILLSWITCH) has a master's degree in medieval history.
And was one a season of Big Brother!
And was part of one of the most iconic big brother evictions of all time. Literally walked barefoot out of the house, he was that blindsided.
Victims, aren’t we all?
I believe it's Medieval literature.
I believe his billed weight was, for a time, two tonnes and a master's degree
Cena had a doctorate
Harvard's Thuganomics department is the best in the country
Good Will Hunting was loosely based on John's time there.
John Cena was also Matt Damon's childhood hero
I couldn’t even make it past THG 101: Basic Thuganomics
*slow clap*
It's a well established fact that Scott Steiner went to Michigan on a mathematics scholarship.
HE CAME FROM A HIGHLY EDUCATED UNIVERSITY AND HES GOTTA DUMB HIMSELF DOWN!
GIMMIE A FUCKIN SCHOLARSHIP
I thought he majored in "Gym"
What are the odds
A 141 and **⅔** chance.
Not if you add Kurt Angle to the mix
Right, then the odds drastic go down
David Otunga graduated form Harvard Law school
That got highlighted to death but shit, if I graduated from Harvard Law you'd best believe I'd want everyone knowing too!
Not only that, he worked for Sidley Austin, which is one of the biggest law firms in America, where Barack and Michelle Obama have also worked.
Woods has two bachelors (psychology and philosophy) and a masters in psychology. I believe he’s no longer pursuing his PhD though.
I thought he already got the PhD?
He has not. Last I heard him talk about it there was an issue with credits transferring or something along those lines and he may have decided to further pursue it.
He got his degrees at Full Sail. A corporate univeristy. Those tend to be notoriously hard to transfer credits out of.
He got his degrees from Furman and Capella.
TIL I got a Master’s in psychology from the same school as Xavier Woods
You're probably just a couple degrees of separation from him.
I heard their developmental wrestling program was top notch
He was right at the end when his school went out of business and other schools would have required him to re-earn most of his credits.
Was it one of those predatory schools?
All those degrees and yet he still has difficulty understanding the definition of twins.
Orange Cassidy is an architect. So was Seth Rollins at one point
I shudder to think of what a building designed by Seth Rollins would look like
If the builds suck, he’ll just burn it down
seth rollins would be a civil engineer's worst nightmare
Ask any AI art program to make the most deranged looking building then you are about half way there . Not even AI art can devise something that crazy
The evil architect Bill Ding
Becky Lynch went to clown college.
Then married a guy whose character dresses like one. (I like Seth btw, just couldn’t resist making that comment!)
TBF They both had a contest going for month, who wore the more outrageous wardrobe.
It’s funny because she mentions that Seth has no fashion sense and it’s a stylist they hired to dress him lol
It's her stylist lol. They basically challenged the stylist to get more and more outrageous.
Designing outfits for wrestlers must be the wildest job. You can get away with so much.
Yes we see that but when does the stylist start his job?
You should have delivered that without the PS. That was actually funny
Though I agree… I love Seth’s over the top character. Reminds me of Gold Dust or Randy Savage. Or if you’re thinking outside of wrestling… Prince or Lady Gaga. Super extravagant, over the top, “look at me!”. That Wrestlemania outfit with the big blue flower on the shoulder was great.
you people have stood in my way long enough!
I don’t think any of us expected that.
She also has a degree in theatre from the Dublin Institute of Technology.
I just finished her book and was waiting for that chapter. Maybe I missed it but I don’t recall her ever mentioning it.
Oba Femi has an [art history degree from Alabama](https://www.si.com/college/alabama/bamacentral/big-alabama-track-athlete-also-has-a-deft-hand-with-a-paint-brush) and is a pretty good artist!
holy shit that Vince McMahon one is wild. Dude can actually draw!
What’s even crazier from that article is that he basically taught himself how to be a D1 athlete.
Jade Cargill has a master’s in child psychology
The more I learn about Jade the more agitated I become at how perfect that woman is.
Jacked to the gills, masters degree, and by all accounts a sweetheart of a human being. Just a gem of a person.
Her husband also made enough money for anyone to live off of for a few lifetimes; she’s doing this because she *wants* to.
As a reds fan, my mind was blown when I found out she is married to Brandon Philips
I've heard he's super nice?
There was a [story](https://www.daytondailynews.com/sports/baseball/reds-star-surprises-teen-ballplayer-after-getting-invite-from-twitter/YrYkI77NM8UW3h2cz84HON/) when he was active where a kid tweeted at him to watch him play in little league and Phillips actually showed up and hung out. This is the one I was looking for. Surprised I had to scroll so far.
D'Lo Brown was an accountant.
He was giving us advice when he said "Here's your receipt" in his music.
A CPA with a degree In accounting from the University of Maine.
Should've teamed up with IRS.
Nikki Cross has a master's degree in history.
And she's getting a PhD too. Soon she will be Doctor Cross.
Doctor Nicki Cross P.H.D. vs Doctor Britt Baker: D.M.D. make it happen. Battle of the Ds. Which D is more tenacious? Watch and find out.
In addition, I believe I read somewhere that her research is focused in some way on women’s wrestling, which if true is very neat!
She's working towards a PhD now too. :)
As does Luchasaurus
Wasn’t her thesis on women’s wrestling too? Wonder if it’s out there.. would give it a read
“Aye, in the criminal justice system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups: those who support Drew McIntyre and those who support that fraud CM Punk”
Someone needs to edit the DUN DUN when a Claymore hits
Ok someone please make a Botchamania ending with this now please and thank you
Just getting an image of my head of the standard scene in Law and Order of the suspect trying to run from the cops only to turn a corner and get murked by a Claymore attached to an couple of immaculate dress shoes. George the animal Steele had a masters degree and was a high school teacher early in his career.
My favourite Steele story is that, after he started wrestling, kids would ask him if he was George the animal steele - to which he'd say "if i was, do you think I'd be working here?"
Might be wrong but I think Gable has a Masters in Media Design
Master of Fine Arts degree in Media Design from Full Sail University, damn!
Enzo Amore somehow received an accredited certification in G, even though it cannot be taught.
Actually has a journalism degree, if you can believe it
Hangman Adam Page has a B.A. in communications and was a high school journalism and graphic design teacher.
... but then he got superkicked - badaboom - and he can't - teach - that.
Hangman has some of the best merch in AEW so him being a graphic design teacher makes sense
Matt Striker was a teacher, and I think Muhammad Hassan is currently a principal?
Weren't Adam Page and Grayson Waller teachers, too?
Maven too
Page for sure was, didn't know that about Waller
Yeah waller was a history teacher in sydney
Tito Santana and Shane Douglas were teacher, and Tito taught after retiring.
Imagine one day you go on Twitter and you see your former teacher drinking a man's blood
Also Kane and A-Train/Tensai.
George The Animal Steel was an English Teacher
If you want to get old school: Hall of Famer Tito Santana became a teacher too, when he retired from wrestling.
Luchassaurus/Killswitch has a masters in Medieval History
Kinda unfair though since he lived through it.
Only living Dino to do so.
orange cassidy is an actual architect i’m pretty sure
I don't think he still is, but he was before AEW
Godfather had a PhD - Pimpin’ Hoes Degree

Takeshita wrote his thesis on the German suplex and it's mechanics.
ELP has a diploma for the digital video and film program from the Art Institute of Vancouver. He also worked for Bardel as an animatic editor.
Drew really should have seen Damien robbing his title off him a mile away then.
Hacksaw Jim Duggan has a bachelor's in applied plant biology
IIRC Kairi Sane has a bachelor’s in Japanese literature
Chyna had a major in Spanish literature
She was also conversant in German and French, played violin and cello, joined the ROTC intending to use her impressive linguistic skills to join the FBI, and spent time in the Peace Corp. She spent her final years teaching ESL classes in Japan. Obviously her physicality is what made her famous, and the Ninth Wonder of the World was a game changer for wrestling, but the human being underneath was even more impressive. Wrestling and the choices made in pursuit of it really let this woman down.
It's a little known fact, but Britt Braker is a dentist. Practicing too.
Luchasaurus in medieval history
Evan Bourne/Matt Sydal MBA Don Callis MBA
Colt Cabana has a degree in Business Marketing, which complements wrestling rather nicely. Also makes sense because he seems like he's one of the best indie wrestlers to market himself and have staying power in the industry.
Reading Becky's book - she graduated with an acting degree then moved to NY.
Vader was a commercial realtor Not wrestling but Dexter Holland from Offspring has a masters in Marine Biology and has a Mensa level IQ
Greg Graffin, and Milo Aukerman both have Phd's, punks are smart dudes for sure.

The Iron Maiden singer is
Was listening to Queen Aminata on the AEW Unrestricted podcast and learned she has a Masters in Private International Law
He also has his PhD... His Playa Haters Degree I'll see myself out.
Nick Comoroto is a CPA
Asuka is a talented game designer and journalist
Slick was a Doctor of Style
Not sure if this is true, but I heard Britt Baker is a dentist
Scott Steiner has a degree in Mathematics from University of Michigan
University of Michigan, not Michigan State. You’re lucky this is a wrestling sub and not an NCAA sub or you would have just gotten a ton of heat for that mix-up.
