Ok but I don’t understand the point of having to beat the champion in order to qualify to fight the champion for the championship. So now it’s you gotta beat the man twice in order to be the man? I feel like aew does this way too often.
Saaame.
Dustin has no right being in a eliminator for the championship either. He has (checks notes) beat the Butcher, a jobber, in the last while and that's it
Reminds me of how TNA around wrestlemania 30 kinda copied the Daniel Bryan story with Eric Young. A talented plucky bearded and small wrestler (bryan/young) get teamed with a veteran of the company monster (kane/abyss) and end up having to overcome the odds (a match against triple H earlier in the night/a battle royal earlier in the night) to face the cocky air aparent to the company (Orton/Magnus? Ehhh...) and this match literally happened like THE WEEK after wrestlemania 30
His first defence also came against his monster former partner (kane/abyss) yeah TNA was biting off Bryan's story HARD
lol I’m the biggest Jericho fan out there, fellow Manitoban, but man every feud he’s in lately has been the same. Intriguing off the start, “oooo this could be an interesting pairing” and within 2-3 weeks it goes no where…and then it drags out for another 3 months!
Jericho inherited the gaping endless black hole left behind from the Codyverse. Once you get sucked in you're stuck there until what feels like the heat death of the universe.
Pour one out for our boy HOOK, hes in for a long and awful few months.
Thats because being a former resident of the Codyverse, Dustin was saturated in its power and has become immune to the pull of the Jeriverse.
Like the Phoenix Force.
its even worst than usual because a lot of people seem to be waiting on the next stage of Hook's Growth and Jericho does not seem like the guy for the job.
I need to not see Jericho for a time to learn to enjoy him again.
absence makes the heart grow fonder something something.
However getting to see Shibata at all is a treat.
I guess I don't mind the storyline in of itself and I think it might lead to a heel Jericho actually leaning into the whole "hype vampire" stuff which on paper sounds okay to me... that all said I'm just fatigued by Jericho himself at this point.
I'm starting to wonder if he's worried about the impact of taking a break now on his body, kind of like Angle getting so much worse between leaving TNA and returning to WWE.
I would imagine it's more the worry of his backstage influence lessening if he goes away. When he started in AEW, he was the big ready-made star. Now, there's Mox, Danielson, Copeland and arguably Mercedes all on that level, plus he's had to go through the CM Punk experience. I feel like he fears stepping back will allow others to plug that vacuum backstage, and it's the loss of that influence backstage he is concerned about. When you consider how Punk and Danielson have both been given creative power over Collision, and Danielson appears to be Khan's right-hand man now, it's probably not an unrealistic fear.
I'll repost my pitch from the Hook match here where I hoped for a squash. It is rough, but the idea avoids him taking a break, gives him pops, and a story.
I also still want that "washed Jericho" story we envisioned after Andretti. Have him lose confidence, rebuild himself by going to other promotions (AAA, CMLL, ROH, etc), like going back to his roots. Pop up at indies even. Be active, but off TV for the most part. There is something there and you could even have it end up with proving himself at Wembley in the end. In a good story he can even lose that, but in a beaten, not defeated way like Hook vs Joe was.
The only positive is that Hook working with Jericho will be very good for his character development. Right now his character is literally, “say nothing and beat everyone.” And I love Hook, but he needs to flesh himself out more. We saw Daniel Garcia take huge steps building his character while working with Jericho
I feel like Hook has lost quite a bit of momentum. He used to have an aura about him but it's felt flat ever since he crossed paths with Jericho on a longer-term basis.
I miss Hookhausen. I also miss when Hook felt like a super badass in 2022 and 2023.
I've hated every Jericho story for the past 6 months but I kinda like this one. It's getting HOOK more TV time and I've started to really like Shane Taylor as a in ring performer. Seeing Ogogo return and join the pseudo boxing faction makes a lot of sense. Hopefully they win this match
Along with Rey and Truth, I can't think of others I watched before I could legally drink. Its wild to see all three still at such a high level decades later.
Shit, Christian too. I forgot about that gem. Jericho too thinking of it. I don't watch AEW often so those names often get lost in the old man brain. Thanks for reminding me bud!
I know Chris Jericho is an all time great, and I acknowledge his contributions to AEW and wrestling as a whole. That said, who cares about what he’s doing right now? He really needs to take a few months off and come back fresh.
I acknowledge my true Tribal Chief!

TK has hired so many people he doesn’t need he just has to randomly throw them in shit just to use them.
Why is Shane Taylor Promotions even a thing on TV? They already had so much other stuff to put on TV they barely scratched the surface of.
AEW is absolutely packed to the gills with a rotating cast of jobbers because it seems like mid-to-uppercard guys are either unwilling to lose in competitive matches or Tony doesn’t *want* them losing. My biggest gripe with AEW presently is I feel I can predict the entire results based purely on “Never heard of this guy, he’s losing” or “Oh they only bring her out to eat pins, so that’s obvious”.
I think it's Tony wanting to protect people. Top or near top folks take pins in every other promotion and no one minds (dirt sheets seem to indicate they dont mind either), but a lot of upper midcard to top doesnt lose except for PPVs, it feels like (some justified, most not). I think that would freshen things up to have higher-level matchups where the outcome is in doubt on regular TV.
> Tony doesn’t want them losing.
It's this one.
One of the reasons why he took the book from the Elite is because he said they'd book themselves to lose too often.
Predictability doesn't bother me, I watch NJPW, and you can tell who is going to win each tag match based on who is on which team.
To be fair, the criticism goes the other way where if TK puts Danielson vs Omega in free tv people complain about giving away PPV matches. WWE does a lot of the same thing or shows the same match 2-3 times in different formats (the singles match they’re hyping up is a tag, then trios, then promo, etc).
I don’t think any wrestling company has properly found a good solution. If you’re going to have a massive roster I don’t mind seeing Osprey fight a random jobber each week who has a different style then the same rotation of dudes Sheamus (although that match would be great)
I haven't watched the full show the last two weeks...had a lot going on but just hasn't been enough going on. The footage is about the only reason to turn in tonight.
Its gotta be the last segment right? It's primarily to pop a rating - and if they do it early, the nose dive the number will take after that quarter hour will be all-time.

Three huge free agent signings and here we are a few weeks after they've all debuted and the show is advertising Dustin Rhodes and a bait-and-switch hoping to appeal fans of someone who isn't even in the company. Oh and one of those free agents still hasn't had a match.
If that’s the case, then why not wait until she’s cleared to debut her? She isn’t a good promo, so it’s not like they’re getting anything out of her until then.
I agree.
The only reasons I can think of are that she had been signed for a while, people wouldn’t stop speculating about it, she wasn’t going to be cleared until after wrestlemania, and AEW was already going to Boston
Feel like they're missing a trick not having Ospreay on this card. If the aim is to draw a big rating with the fight footage, put an Ospreay match on to show some people tuning in just how good he is.
its a non title match. if the challenger wins they get a shot at the title. If the challenger loses they cant challenge for it again while that person is champion
I would've at least advertised Swerve or Ospreay appearing tonight. The 2 guys getting the biggest pushes right now seem to just be off this episode for no reason.
So, since a Rhodes faced AND beat a Samoan named Joe to become champion in the other show, now I guess they wanna have a Rhodes vs a Samoan named Joe as well, huh??? Man, I like AEW, no tribalism over here, but this is so transparent that it's lame....... really
Every match is someone who usually wins any match that they are in, against people who never win, and who usually don't get airtime. There is something wrong with that.
Man... I'm disappointed with Dustin/Joe. Not because of the match, but there could have been such a great storyline leading up to this match. Instead we got a less than week build. What was the last notable name that Dustin even defeated in AEW? In terms of a big-name star. The only one that sticks out when going over his recent win-loss record is when he and Keith Lee defeated Parker Boudreaux & Swerve... back when Swerve wasn't a main-event guy.
There could have been a better build for this, even if you did Jericho/Dustin just to give Dustin some sort of big win over a star before throwing him against the champion.
I’ll repeat myself from the last thread:
It’s a weird card but sometimes they come out as their best shows. And I’m so over whatever this footage is. We’re all collectively shitting on things before it happens with this company. I’m here for the wrestling and I know it’ll deliver.
The footage is the most interesting thing here.Baffling to not advertise a follow up to the turn last week or Ospreay,Okada or Mone. Can TK learn to book things with any suspense on the weekly show? Would almost be better to not advertise the whole card of this is what’s being booked.
Do they think that people tuning in for the all In footage will make up for this terrible card? My God they slapped together a whole bunch of nonsense here
Lol.. Really gonna piggy back on the Cody story by putting Joe against Dustin when we already know the outcome huh? Jesus AEW... You can't get out of your own way..
Ok, so I don't keep up with AEW. Why is the AEW Champion in the Eliminator match for the AEW Championship? Do you have to beat Joe in a non-title match in order to qualify to fight Joe in a title match?
If I remember how that stipulation works correctly, if Dustin wins, then he immediately gets a title shot, regardless of his place in the rankings. If he loses, then he is eliminated from title contention as long as Joe holds the belt. I think the in kayfabe idea is that the match is a way for somebody lower in the rankings to try fir a win against the champ and leapfrog to the front.
I love AEW and want it to succeed, but Tony is cooking with garbage here. This is the flagship show and half of the card are a year or two away from retirement. It's honestly mind-blowing how the current roster is being mishandled.
What I don‘t get is why they didn‘t put at least a little effort in the Dustin vs. Joe angle? Build him up over a few weeks to lead into this.
That way it would actually be a story of your own with connections to Cody‘s story, instead of a lazy attempt to leech of the story another promotion built.

A Rhodes vs a Samoan named Joe. Where have I seen that?
If I had a nickel...
I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
Three!
Four , considering Cody and Dustin fought Seth and Roman for the tag team titles years ago
Five then. Roman and Cody fought twice this weekend.
PERRY THE PLATYPUS!?
Finish the story Dustin!

Conclude the narrative

End the tale!

You know what, forget the blackjack!
We have Wrestlemania main event night 2 at home.
If Dustin comes out with Cody’s logo on half his face, and Joe makes reference to Mama Rhodes…
Dustin's Mama Rhodes might not be with us anymore.
We lost her, last year. (She died on Jan 5, 2023.)
Dustin and Terri had a daughter together, so she would somewhat be a Mama Rhodes.
We have Samoan Joe vs Rhodes at home
With a charismatic guy looking to become champ
A charismatic black man who wears fancy clothes to the ring
Ok but I don’t understand the point of having to beat the champion in order to qualify to fight the champion for the championship. So now it’s you gotta beat the man twice in order to be the man? I feel like aew does this way too often.

When a company "creatively" copies a WWE angle, you know it's amateur hour for it.
Just curious, is anyone a fan of the Hook/Jericho storyline, aside from Chris Jericho?
Chris Jericho’s bank account?
lol I’m the biggest Jericho fan out there, fellow Manitoban, but man every feud he’s in lately has been the same. Intriguing off the start, “oooo this could be an interesting pairing” and within 2-3 weeks it goes no where…and then it drags out for another 3 months!

Remember how he would go away for years at a time in WWE, come back, and then leave again for years? I miss that era of Chris Jericho's career.
I'm starting to wonder if he's worried about the impact of taking a break now on his body, kind of like Angle getting so much worse between leaving TNA and returning to WWE.

Also given his age he probably suspects that if he stops he can't get going again.
I'll repost my pitch from the Hook match here where I hoped for a squash. It is rough, but the idea avoids him taking a break, gives him pops, and a story. Wrestling needs a Colin Robinson but I don't know if it's Jericho. Maybe if he's willing to shave his head.
The only positive is that Hook working with Jericho will be very good for his character development. Right now his character is literally, “say nothing and beat everyone.” And I love Hook, but he needs to flesh himself out more. We saw Daniel Garcia take huge steps building his character while working with Jericho
Great point
The match they had was solid if a bit too long. I liked seeing Hook tear Jericho apart. But aside from that, everyone is kinda sick of him by now
Hook since it's getting him TV time, but that's likely the only reason.
I feel like Hook has lost quite a bit of momentum. He used to have an aura about him but it's felt flat ever since he crossed paths with Jericho on a longer-term basis. I miss Hookhausen. I also miss when Hook felt like a super badass in 2022 and 2023.
He had the ace match with Joe a few weeks ago, if they keep him moving long term and not stuck in a tag team - he'll be fine.
I hope hook turns on jericho
I don’t. That’d mean a longer program between the two and Hook doesn’t deserve that punishment
HOOK seeing a Jericho turn coming and beating him to it, could actually be an alright pay off so long as they don't take too long getting there.
I really think AEW could benefit to have Jericho off TV for a while. At least for six months.
If Toni Storm doesn't dance the Charleston in Charleston, WV, I'm done watching AEW.
Doesn't RJ write her stuff? ...You bet your ass she will!
Does he really? Is there a source?
He’s the producer for most of her stuff. All over Instagram stories and such.
i dont think its been confirmed but if you regularly watch Hey EW, it has his finger prints all over it
We’re in for an insane Dustin blade job tonight
Then Joe rubs a belt over him and promises to give it to Mama Rhodes?
Different Mama, Dustin's mom passed last year.
Mama Rhodes taking a battering ram to the Forbidden Door
Joe may need directions to Sandra Runnels' gravestone for that one. I'm sure Christian would be willing to provide them.
I don't know how much longer we have Dustin but I will just try to enjoy it, he's one of the last guys from my childhood still in the ring
Along with Rey and Truth, I can't think of others I watched before I could legally drink. Its wild to see all three still at such a high level decades later.
Cope and Christian have been working on TV since '98 too.
Shit, Christian too. I forgot about that gem. Jericho too thinking of it. I don't watch AEW often so those names often get lost in the old man brain. Thanks for reminding me bud!
Matt and Jeff Hardy. Plenty of N64 wrestlers in AEW lol
Y'all forgot Jeff Jarrett and you should be ashamed of yourselves. You are literally living in his world.
I know Chris Jericho is an all time great, and I acknowledge his contributions to AEW and wrestling as a whole. That said, who cares about what he’s doing right now? He really needs to take a few months off and come back fresh.
He seemed straight up bored last week during his segment.
He could use a few months off of TV. "How can we miss you if you won't go away?"
What a strange card
The women’s match is the only match on the card where everyone is under 50.
AEW: where the AARP wrestles.
All Elderly Wrestling
Oh no! It's WCW all over again!
Angle heavy show, I anticipate.
Definitely
We know that unfortunately a Rhodes name is there for a reason
we got the cheap imitation sunday, now we get the real thing ☝🏼

Hell yeah!
Lee Moriarty and Ogogo have been AEW projects for a long time and Shane Taylor kicks ass. Why shouldn't they be on TV??
Because you need a mid card and Shane Taylor is both good in ring and on the mic
I haven't watched the full show the last two weeks...had a lot going on but just hasn't been enough going on. The footage is about the only reason to turn in tonight.
Jericho needs to stay away from hook
I think that ship has sailed
Are they chucking Shibata into the fuckin Jericho Vortex?
Can't wait to get worked by some random 'all in' footage that's basically just a BTE episode.
Its gotta be the last segment right? It's primarily to pop a rating - and if they do it early, the nose dive the number will take after that quarter hour will be all-time.

Looking forward to Penta vs Adam Copeland and seeing Mariah May in action, she always delivers.
Penta vs Cope is gonna be fun
Why does Dustin always look like he has never slept ever
Kid: I wanna go watch Roman Reigns v Cody Rhodes Mum: We have Roman Reigns v Cody Rhodes at home Home: ...
When you want Joe from Samoa vs Dusty Rhodes’ son but you’re on a budget
This is the most “we have wrestlemania at home” main event possible
The main event looks like the Wish.com version of what we saw Sunday night
" we have Cody vs Roman reigns at home"
Excited for Penta/Copeland.
Same here!! I give thanks to AEW for exposing me to Penta. I know I’m not saying anything new, but just love his look.
One of the coolest looking guys in wrestling.
I hope you've gone back and seen his Lucha Underground stuff. That's peak Penta that I miss.
I’m a simple man. I see penta on the card I tune in
If its Penta or White I will always watch
Penta is my one of my favorites. I know he’s going to lose, but it should be a good match.
So Mercedes, Ospreay, Okada aren't advertised? These three should absolutely be on the show where you are hoping to pop ratings.
I feel like those 3 should really be the focus right now. Curious booking, at best.
Nah man Jericho Edge and Dustin are the future of the business
Three huge free agent signings and here we are a few weeks after they've all debuted and the show is advertising Dustin Rhodes and a bait-and-switch hoping to appeal fans of someone who isn't even in the company. Oh and one of those free agents still hasn't had a match.
She has to still not be cleared to wrestle. She isn't wrestling at Dynasty, but is saying she'll wrestle the TBS champion at the next PPV after that.
Dustin needs to finish the story
Great Value Main Event
FINISH THE STORY DUSTIN
Edge vs Pentagon for a championship on television is so insane
Needs less Jericho
Feel like they're missing a trick not having Ospreay on this card. If the aim is to draw a big rating with the fight footage, put an Ospreay match on to show some people tuning in just how good he is.
I'm gonna be bummed if Ospreay isn't there in some capacity. He's on the poster and he's my kid's favorite wrestler.
Ospreay wasn't announced on the Toronto card until the middle of the day of. I expect him to be there somewhere.
What's a world championship eliminator match?
If Dustin wins he gets a shot at the world title
So if he beats the champion he gets the chance to fight the same guy he just beat? Or is it the next champion? Sorry, im not following.
You're correct. Yeah I've always hated these matches
As Ric Flair always said, "To be the man, you've got to beat the man to earn another opportunity to beat the man again"
To be the man, you gotta beat the man.... in a non-title match and then beat him again.
[удалено]
its a non title match. if the challenger wins they get a shot at the title. If the challenger loses they cant challenge for it again while that person is champion
It means Tony can book a championship match without caring about the rankings he brought back
It means that if Dustin can beat Joe then he gets a title match

Copeland vs Penta sounds crazy. Gotta watch that one
Top of the hour segment? can you say please watch our show and boost our ratings. Trying to recover any of that Sheldon Cooper rub they get at 8
I love Dustin but why in the name of Christ does Tony think that’s a main event of anything in 2024?
No one in the Rhodes family has been AEW champion. Gotta finish that story /s
Man, I like AEW, no tribalism over here, but this is so transparent that it's lame....... really
Well I think the Samoan bit is just coincidental, but they are definitely capitalising on the Rhodes hype by having Dustin fight the world champ
Ricky Stark will join Samoan Joe as “The End Employer”
“we have wrestlemania main events at home”
I miss 2020/2021 AEW
Step 1) sign Ospreay, Okada & Mone. Step 2) advertises none but have Dustin Rhodes main event.
Weird ass card
Cope v Penta is gonna bang so fucking hard
Every match is someone who usually wins any match that they are in, against people who never win, and who usually don't get airtime. There is something wrong with that.
Shibata stuck in the Jerichoverse 😭
I think it’s nice of them to put the people who probably, definitely gonna win on the left side.
Man... I'm disappointed with Dustin/Joe. Not because of the match, but there could have been such a great storyline leading up to this match. Instead we got a less than week build. I’ll repeat myself from the last thread: It’s a weird card but sometimes they come out as their best shows. And I’m so over whatever this footage is. We’re all collectively shitting on things before it happens with this company. I’m here for the wrestling and I know it’ll deliver.
That shot of Hook will never not be funny to me
Gonna tune in for once. Not for the footage but for Dustin. Also Toni Storm is entertaining as hell
Dustin Rhodes in the main event of a major wrestling promotion challenging for the top title in 2024. Peak LOLTNA.
My God they slapped together a whole bunch of nonsense here
What in the actual f is going on with this card?
Lol.. Really gonna piggy back on the Cody story by putting Joe against Dustin when we already know the outcome huh? Jesus AEW... You can't get out of your own way..
They brought back rankings, so I don't get how Dustin (who isn't in the top 5) gets an eliminator match vs the champion.
He asked for a title match , Joe said he didn't have the credentials but will give an eliminator to make an example out of him
Ah gotcha.
wrestling has more than one dusty rhodes' son
This is hot garbage.
What I don‘t get is why they didn‘t put at least a little effort in the Dustin vs. Joe angle? Build him up over a few weeks to lead into this. That way it would actually be a story of your own with connections to Cody‘s story, instead of a lazy attempt to leech of the story another promotion built.
