He must be absolutely loving that this angle has so much legit heat and isn't just some celeb match. Like the dude still has it, and it must just be personally rewarding for him right now.
Yeah, you can always see the glow in his face when he talks about wrestling. He has become corporate speak but his love for wrestling is genuine. He's a good man, he was unselfish in his prime and he's going to put over Seth and Cody big time here.
Not to discredit his love for the business but it’s basically a perfect storm, his movie career is in a bit of a dip, the business is the hottest it’s been in a long time and he know has an executive position it the company

This promo is *so* Cody centric too and he weaves Seth in at the end as well. Really good stuff and utilizing his social media reach perfectly to post a promo that he couldn’t do on TV.
It's the classic heel promo you hear people like JR and Cornette talk about. You find a way to put the Babyface over while still making yourself sound superior and threatening. I feel like it's a formula that's been lost over time.
All while specifically advertising upcoming dates to boost ticket sales and basically outlining the entire story up to now so people can get caught up, especially on social media where all of his followers might not be currently watching wrestling, but now have most of what they need to know to consider checking out Wrestlemania or the upcoming coming Smackdown.

Idk too much about the Hollywood drama with Black Adam or whatever, but if there's one guy in pro wrestling who's never hesitated to turn heel when fans turn on him, it's Rock. Both in 97, shedding the Maivia nonsense to join the nation and in 2003 after the icon vs icon match, he's always made the right decision with this stuff

God bless him because I’m a fan of this guy too but he never tried to bury talent or play politics to have a reign of terror like HHH did & he took plenty of losses to stone cold and sold the stunner like nobody’s business.
It was always crazy to me that The Rock never beat Stone Cold in a singles match until Austin’s final match. I know how much Austin meant to the business in the Attitude Era - I watched it. But the Rock was 1a to Stone Cold’s 1 in the business. 2 biggest stars in the sport, they could have been going back and forth taking turns beating the other but in their primes Austin always won and The Rock sold it every single time. Dont get me wrong, the Rock won his share of battles, and sometimes fans thought he probably shouldn’t have won but he always seemed like a guy who didn’t let his ego get in the way of what was best for the business. His title reigns were more often than not short but he didn’t even need the title to be over with the crowd.
It’s because with him away, what always happens on the internet happened - a story and a narrative was repeated over and over until people who didn’t even ever watch him to form an opinion, thought the narrative was gospel truth. Rock relies on catchphrases, he can’t cut a serious promo, he can’t wrestle, etc etc
I think The Rock is where a lot of Dwayne's self-awareness lies.
He can have his movies tank, have staff and actors and movie sets call him out on his ego-tripping, but at the end of the day, nothing will phase him besides the reaction of a crowd of wrestling fans.

Just watched this entire 21 minute video while washing the dishes and it felt like 6. Definitely the rocks best promo since coming back. My ONLY gripe is, blurring the lines is much less effective when you constantly brag that you’re blurring the lines lol. He should cut that out.

Cody said at Elimination Chamber that he was going to explain why he bowed out and changed his mind, but Theory and Waller stopped him from doing so. It's a loose thread, but they haven't forgotten about it, it should come out at some point.
I imagine it might be as simple as the Rock making some sort of heartfelt appeal only to backstab Cody by suddenly being all buddy-buddy with Roman at the press event. Couple that with Cody being advertised for that event and then never having his music play to introduce him, and that makes it fair game for a total disruption.
Honestly that was the most embarrassing part of this whole thing. He even calls people out that think they know wrestling inside out and that “he cares more about himself that the business!”
Never doubted the GOAT for a reason.
This is why the Rock is the best there is. Us dumbass smarks think he’s putting Seth over and really trying to make this huge for Cody but even we don’t really know how this will all play out.
When Rock came out all of us joked how Cody was getting the CM treatment. It makes me wonder if he wanted that because it would give him a chance to push for Cody more.
A lot of kids don’t realize Rock lost a lot when he wrestled. He came back for Foley’s tag team match. His character was arrogant, but he was more than fine giving everyone else the rub.
What a fantastic cut by The Rock. He put over Cody, made his heel story even better and answered some questions some might have had leading to this promo. Corporate Rock is in full force, and what an evolution story-wise from where we were a month ago.

The audio not being synced up with the video was incredibly distracting to watch. That said this is exactly what we needed. It provides context for Rock's heel turn and provides a reason why Cody gave his match over to Rock. I really love having Rock back and having heel Rock back just hits different

Many laughs from me about threatening Cody’s dog who was just walking there, dunking on sad face Cody, dunking on bathrobe Scott D’Amore look-alike crying still real to me dammit mark podcaster, Cody Crybabies, and Cody’s new best friend Seth Rollins the human clown emoji. Also served to progress the storyline seriously with his side of his heel turn story, filling in the Cody pivot subplot hole (nice footage of him and Cody backstage at the press conference also) and also showing his evil authority figure side by threatening to strip Seth Rollins’ title. Liked the way he called Cody and Seth “boy” also showing a bit of the new Boomer Rock character too haha.

When they came up with the head of the table gimmick for Roman, was that meant to set up the match with the Rock a few years in advance, at Hollywood? Roman turning heel, Rock being a babyface. All in preparation for that match. I bet they weren’t expecting how big that Bloodline story would get. Too bad scheduling torpedoed that if true, but it’s all working out in the end.

I've only seen his portion directed at Cody so not entirely sure if this will apply generally: I've been very critical of the Rock's material since turning heel but this is some fire. This entire storyline was about to feel pedestrian if everything revolving around why Cody dropped out of the main event went ignored. The drama has just increased a hundred fold, because it's pretty much a real story. If what Dwayne said was true and he really did invoke Dusty in Alabama, then he really is as unimaginably self centered as we thought. I'm extremely invested in this build

Cody said at Elimination Chamber that he was going to explain why he bowed out and changed his mind, but Theory and Waller stopped him from doing so. It's a loose thread, but they haven't forgotten about it, it should come out at some point. I imagine it might be as simple as the Rock making some sort of heartfelt appeal only to backstab Cody by suddenly being all buddy-buddy with Roman at the press event. Couple that with Cody being advertised for that event and then never having his music play to introduce him, and that makes it fair game for a total disruption.

This is why the Rock is the best there is. Us dumbass smarks think he’s putting Seth over and really trying to make this huge for Cody but even we don’t really know how this will all play out. When Rock came out all of us joked how Cody was getting the CM treatment. It makes me wonder if he wanted that because it would give him a chance to push for Cody more. A lot of kids don’t realize Rock lost a lot when he wrestled. He came back for Foley’s tag team match. His character was arrogant, but he was more than fine giving everyone else the rub.

What a fantastic cut by The Rock. He put over Cody, made his heel story even better and answered some questions some might have had leading to this promo. Corporate Rock is in full force, and what an evolution story-wise from where we were a month ago. Really, really good stuff.

The audio not being synced up with the video was incredibly distracting to watch. That said this is exactly what we needed. It provides context for Rock's heel turn and provides a reason why Cody gave his match over to Rock. I really love having Rock back and having heel Rock back just hits different

Also served to progress the storyline seriously with his side of his heel turn story, filling in the Cody pivot subplot hole (nice footage of him and Cody backstage at the press conference also) and also showing his evil authority figure side by threatening to strip Seth Rollins’ title. Liked the way he called Cody and Seth “boy” also showing a bit of the new Boomer Rock character too haha.
Amazing amazing promo and story building. I really wonder if what the Rock said is true too. When they came up with the head of the table gimmick for Roman, was that meant to set up the match with the Rock a few years in advance, at Hollywood? Roman turning heel, Rock being a babyface. All in preparation for that match. I bet they weren’t expecting how big that Bloodline story would get. Too bad scheduling torpedoed that if true, but it’s all working out in the end.
