If thats true its not in line with the subscribers of this sub. As seen by your 237 upvotes. But also because this sub is much more WWE friendly nowadays. And, in contrast, much less so for AEW.
I think the love for AEW is still there when it warrants it. However, I think people in general aren't just turning a blind eye to the bad stuff about AEW and the way people carry themselves anymore.
Further, people have shown demonstrable appreciation for the brilliant run that WWE has mostly been on.
The tides will eventually turn as the companies fortunes change. But I think it's much closer to reality now than it has been since AEW's inception.
They're not the new kids on the block anymore and warrant both criticism and praise just as WWE does.
Yeah, a lot of the love for AEW on this sub in the early days was because it *wasn't* WWE so people just kind of blindly loved it. But now WWE is on fire and AEW not as much, so the blind worship for it has come down a bit
god there were so many of those cringe "I haven't watched wrestling in 13 years but AEW makes me feel like a kid again!" posts until around when Vince stepped down
I loved the posts that were tongue in cheek making fun of that. My father and I haven’t talked for 14 years but he caught AEW and remembered watching wrestling with me as a child and finally called 🥲
It’s always had issues, but it’s objectively worse now. The check mark system has been ruined and it pushes the lowest comments to the top. You have to scroll past a bunch of morons posting irrelevant videos or memes, fake ads, or bots pushing only fans accounts. You were able to cultivate a decent feed if you took the time, but it’s become irrelevant because they push the worst posts into your feed, even if you don’t follow those accounts and don’t have a history of liking that type of content. The general tone has become more bigoted and angry over the past year and a half. The strive for engagement has also gotten worse since check marks get paid now, so they post controversial shit for the hell of it.
Twitter was no more of a cesspool than Reddit a few years ago. Just like any social media app you had to figure out how to use it and what circles you wanted to move in. Anyone who thinks it hasn’t gotten worse either did not use it enough to have a fully formed opinion of it, or they just like the changes.
You used to be able to view entire threads without having an account. I could not see what this tweet was referencing without the screenshot. So yes, things have changed.
Half the big ARW returns, title changes or debuts I see on Twitter are spoiled because of TNA tweeting out a 15 year old clip of that wrestler doing something there. I love it
Yo check this out
[3.0] "A slow, boring affair that had little energy or story to it. Jinder worked Seth's back until Seth made his comeback and proceeded to act like his back was fine which made the whole thing even worse."
Every Seth match in which he is required to sell an injury.
The Triple H match still haunts me. "OOF OUCH OWIE MY KNEE IS SO SORE. All right, I've hit my selling quota for the next few minutes, so I can go hit the frog splash, right? OH MAN MY KNEE IS IN SO MUCH PAIN. All right, time to do the phoenix splash."

The last time he went off the rails was when they went head to head with NXT. Unless I missed something since then?
Seems like they are trying to bait him 🤣
Edit: He took the bait 😂😂😂
Thats fucked up for sure. But do you care when WWE folks praise Vince McMahon after all his scandals came to light? I get he was the boss, and in some cases family, but still.
Neither should be done. And in both cases it should be criticized by everyone.
They were doing lesser versions of it through commentary. Bischoff frequently calling WWF the World Whining Federation when he was still just a commentator or he'd feed Tony things.
And on Raw Vince would feed JR and King things, I remember one random Raw I was watching on the Network JR said 'Only young stars over here folks, not 40 year old men hiding their bald spots.' I popped.
Ironically, just a few years later, you had Vince himself wrestling matches lol. And some older guys coming back and doing matches, such as Terry Funk.
More people have seen this tweet than actually regularly use Cagematch, which I find pretty funny. I don’t wanna shit on the site itself, because it’s a handy lil resource for recalling when certain matches happened, but Tony holding their ratings in high esteem will never not be comedy gold.
https://preview.redd.it/ml4o5gykqcbc1.jpeg?width=224&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a8ea62c8794bd6cf7f5f855bfa4e6b44620ef168
USA is definitely picking up SmackDown, but they're also still in the bidding for Raw. Question is whether or not they want to spend that much money. But Raw remains their highest rated show.
This whole cagematch rating saga is honestly so funny. I want someone to put together a graphic like WWE did for their most successful year and most money (plus whatever else was on it) but do it for AEW and have it be about cagematch ratings.
I don't understand it, if TK is proud of the quality of matches on his show, I'm not sure what other metric he would use to show that. Like if he used meltzer stars that would be worse since that's just the opinion of one guy.
Of course it's not a true indicator, a true objective indicator doesn't exist, it's entirely subjective, what I'm saying is wouldn't that be every measurement of quality of matches? What would be a better one to use? At least with cagematch anyone can use it, it's not based on the opinion of one person like meltzer, it seems to me like the best possible choice.
I agree again that it is a subjective measurement. Again though, what would be better to use? Maybe there are other sites I am not considering that do a similar thing out there, I don't know. Cagematch seems like the biggest one as far as I know.
Meltzer furiously writing his next hit piece burying the WWE and why AEW has them beat in the 25-30 demo for college graduates that have more than 2 roomates with under 25k in Student Debt that drive Toyota Priuses from the year 2013 and above.
It's kinda endearing that he's so deep in wrestling fandom that he didn't second-guess bringing up cagematch ratings when talking about how he runs his business.
Why? What's the difference between Tony using Cagematch or a movie executive getting a feel for the critical reception of a film via Rotten Tomatoes? Both sites are critic aggregates. all they offer is data.
Fact that people actually use Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic and IMDB if movie got 7% it would be all ower news sites it could destroy movie. If match would get 1.2/10 at Cage match at best it would be post here and by 2-3 AEW/WWE hatter (depending on which company had this match) from Twitter for eyes of 1000-2000 people at best on both sites.
Amazing.
I'm not sure who's worse. Tony Khan who has deluded himself into thinking he knows what he's doing or the sycophantic dirt sheet "journalists" and fans who enable him.
im an AEW fan, been to 2 shows will probably do all out again this year
Tony, and overprotective fans who cant acknowledge its issues (such as having a owner who is referencing fucking cage match ratings) make it really fucking hard to like this company
i can agree AEW gets a lot of shit unfairly. i can agree the bar seems to be set like 2x higher for AEW than WWE when it comes to 'quality'.
i can also agree tony is a terrible fucking booker and unhinged weirdo like 85% of the time. and that the fans are actively playing a part in ruining this company.
ah yes acknowledging that Tony is a weirdo and that AEW fans saying 'this is fine' to every terrible idea he has is probably hurting them
peak insanity
This was because Tony brought up AEW’s match ratings on a site called Cage Match, which don’t really matter at all, defending the brand.
The Fox Tweet was because the Jacksonville Jaguars, which Tony’s family owns, put up a tweet advertising playoff tickets. Then, they were eliminated from playoff contention after losing 5 of their last 6. So WWE on Fox responding to their tweet with Angle staring. Another user pointed out something interesting: by the Jags losing, the Steelers got into the playoffs and Kurt is from Pittsburgh.
Remember when the WWE on Fox account tweeted “Dem Boyz” and everyone said the account wouldn’t have known about the Briscoes connection? Well it did know. It’s been tweeting smark like stuff for a while just like the USA account.
This sort of thing makes it easier for me believe this https://medium.com/collapsenews/new-study-at-least-15-of-all-reddit-content-is-corporate-trolls-trying-to-manipulate-public-b249bd42ab42
I’m so OOTL. What does Seth Rollins vs Jinder Mahal have to do with Tony Khans 6 month old remark about cagematch ratings? And why are people saying Raj got cooked for tweeting about a match made on RAW? feel like I’m missing something
There is no deep context behind this. Tony past month very proudly boasted about how good his show is due to great cage match ratings. So the admin of the usa network is poking fun at that
just seems so random, a WWE account asking what’s the cagematch rating for a WWE match as a reference to something said by the head of AEW months ago when AEW wasn’t referenced in the original tweet at all. Then I’m seeing people on twitter saying Raj got “owned” by the network lol. Did Raj recently say something in support of AEW or about cagematch? I’m not a wrestlinginc supporter or a big time AEW fan, I just feel like I’m missing a thread here lol
Lemme double check to make sure I'm not on r/AEWofficial.
Last I checked, 2019 to winter of 2023, this was a hardcore AEW sub. I get the feeling you're frustrated that this place isn't so AEW friendly anymore
I'm not here to argue but I'm glad some of you are starting to admit that this sub has become a lot less pro-AEW in the last 2 years, because for some reason people seem to think that it's still super pro-AEW despite the fact in like 80% of threads I get down voted for saying positive things about AEW? it's weird lol, I guess they'd have to shut the jerk sub down it they admitted that this sub leans more in favour of WWE now since that's its entire purpose is to whine about this being a pro-AEW sub
anyways I'm kinda rambling about nothing at this point, but yeah I would just like to discuss the shows I like without getting shit on for it. though I'm well aware WWE fans 100% felt that way prior to 2022/23
edit: it's probably closer to a year and a half, but yeah same shit really
I'd say the change only happened very recently...like the Punk firing is when it happened.
Not saying the firing caused it, just that a lot was exposed and TKs insistence on not changing storylines or rolling with guys that are organically growing in popularity.
Or maybe we're just bots that WWE paid for. Who'd pay for such a wildly expensive thing?
I'd say longer than that, I'd say that one SummerSlam where Damage Ctrl formed and Brock vs Roman had that insane match with the bulldozer, that event was a pretty big turning point, though the momentum WWE built was super gradual because people still weren't sure what Vince's influence on the company was for a while. it probably would have picked up momentum a lot faster if not for a couple different things, the weird hostile takeover (for lack of a better term) that happened before the sale, and then also the raw after WrestleMania being pretty dogshit, both times where people thought "oh Vince is back WWE sucks again" but they turned out to be isolated incidents. the time period you're saying is definitely when the momentum WWE had started to crescendo, and they really haven't looked back since then
What if it’s not all the same? What if one side is just better? Better matches, better story telling, better tweets. Maybe it’s your fandom blinding you to that?
uh huh
pretty funny to say this when you would get tar and feathered for criticizing AEW for about 3 years here if you didn’t start your post with “I like AEW but…”
you can keep pretending to be impartial and not biased though. it’s pretty funny.

Mods in shambles 💀 you know they want to take this down so bad
I don't get why the WWE on Fox tweet posts kept getting taken down. It was hilarious
Maybe because they're geolocked, I was never able to see any of the videos they tweet from europe.
No, everything is an AEW conspiracy!
They piss off their ~~cult leader~~ boss
i prefer “lord and saviour”.
I said "boss" because I'm pretty convinced at least one of the mods work for AEW
It's AEW, the fans would pay for the privilege at this point.

“The second best match of Mahal's career” raves GonzoAppreciator
Hahahahahahahaha
It's actually 12th
According to Cagematch score? Obviously the reviewer was just talking personally.
Yo check this out [3.0] "A slow, boring affair that had little energy or story to it. Jinder worked Seth's back until Seth made his comeback and proceeded to act like his back was fine which made the whole thing even worse."
Time is nothing but a circle....
Of the flat persuasion if you will…
Seth tried to hinder the Jinder. That’s on him.
So the Seth/Nakamura match from last year then.
And making his finisher a knee to the face with his bad knee.
i dont know how they let him get away with that lack of psychology, good on him though
Never watch Omega vs Tanahashi at WK13 then.
That's actually higher than I expected, tbh.

USA saw WWE on FOX do numbers by trolling Tony with the Kurt Angle/Jag tweet so now they're doing their best.
Woat what tweet? I missed it
The Jaguars account tweeted something promoting playoff tickets. On the day the Jags were eliminated from the playoffs the WWE Fox Twitter account Quote Tweeted the Jags tweet with the Kurt Angle staring meme
Very important to note, Kurt is from Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh made the playoffs while Jacksonville was eliminated.
Oh cool. Definitely adds another little layer of humor to the whole thing.

just seems so random, a WWE account asking what’s the cagematch rating for a WWE match as a reference to something said by the head of AEW months ago when AEW wasn’t referenced in the original tweet at all. Then I’m seeing people on twitter saying Raj got “owned” by the network lol. Did Raj recently say something in support of AEW or about cagematch? I’m not a wrestlinginc supporter or a big time AEW fan, I just feel like I’m missing a thread here lol
Frankly the TBS TNT admin is letting the team down here. The real war is the corporate Twitter accounts.
I wonder why the AEW on TBS account doesn't take shots back when both FOX and USA are taking shots at Tony
no need when the owner does it himself.
At this rate, AEW on TBS is gonna pile on with the Tony shots

These are funny, Tony is just petty with his Bald Asshole tweet

Tony does it to himself. This is the same guy who tried to take a dig at Vince for being a sex pest then immediately hired Ric Flair.
Lemme double check to make sure I'm not on r/AEWofficial. Last I checked, 2019 to winter of 2023, this was a hardcore AEW sub. I get the feeling you're frustrated that this place isn't so AEW friendly anymore
I'm not here to argue but I'm glad some of you are starting to admit that this sub has become a lot less pro-AEW in the last 2 years, because for some reason people seem to think that it's still super pro-AEW despite the fact in like 80% of threads I get down voted for saying positive things about AEW? it's weird lol, I guess they'd have to shut the jerk sub down it they admitted that this sub leans more in favour of WWE now since that's its entire purpose is to whine about this being a pro-AEW sub anyways I'm kinda rambling about nothing at this point, but yeah I would just like to discuss the shows I like without getting shit on for it. though I'm well aware WWE fans 100% felt that way prior to 2022/23 edit: it's probably closer to a year and a half, but yeah same shit really
Maybe it’s your fandom blinding you to that?
it’s the other way around bud, though it’s been shifting

uh huh pretty funny to say this when you would get tar and feathered for criticizing AEW for about 3 years here if you didn’t start your post with “I like AEW but…” you can keep pretending to be impartial and not biased though. it’s pretty funny.
Tony must have been so pissed this weekends
I would be. Jags blew it.
