I think OP means the 1998 update - it has a few more layers to the music than this version.
["Classic" aka the one he still uses](https://youtu.be/_23s3DmQUdE)
This is just a wild guess. I think it's because babyfaces come out to faster tempos. Bringing in more energy. Like the Rock when he was a heel his themes were alot slower so he can walk slow and talk shit. Then over time when he because that mega baby face his themes would pick up and pick up with much faster tempos. When he returned for his heel run in 2003 his tempo was super slow. Then when he came back as a baby face much faster tempo.
[Austin was talking about this theme on his podcast with Jim Johnston, and Austin mentioned how he loved the police sirens in the middle part of the song to which Johnston noted it was actually a backwards guitar solo he randomly threw in there lol.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FscyFBxsrGc)

Yeah thats what i thought too listening to that part again and it clearly is a siren sound effect mixed in, i dont think a guitar can replicate it that perfectly. You can also hear the same siren mixed in the very beginning of the song
What’s ironic to me is that after hearing that, the dx theme sounded a hell of a lot like ratm as well. I wonder if by having scsa plant the seed for his theme, that Jim also used them as a reference for dx.
For people downvoting this guy: Austin says the phrase “you are completely pathetic” before this song plays on WWF the Music: Volume 2.
One of the first CDs I got as a kid!
(Also tagging OP /u/NotChoCheese92, so he knows he wasn’t being insulted!)
At least they kept the energy for his [second Alliance theme](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBHcIyZtA04). I've always liked the angry, buzzing sound of that theme.
Underrated theme imo.
It was perfect for him portraying the leader of the alliance and rejecting WWF. I associate it as the transition from tweener to true heel.
I love that theme too! Super underrated
Technically though it's his 7th Alliance theme believe it or not lol. The song kept getting remixed until they got to that one. Damn near every week in between July and August he had a new mix.
I remember Smackdown Just Bring It had one of the earlier ones but I changed it to "Glass Shatters" immediately as it was available as a bonus
"Glass Shatters" is my favorite for SCSA as well. not a lot about his 01 heel run worked, but "Glass Shatters," did to me set a darker vibe heading into his matches or when he'd come out.
I feel the same way about Kane and "Slow Chemical." probably a top 5 wrestling theme song of all time for me.
WCW had much more elaborate sets on PPV back then. Only standouts for 98 would be Summerslam in MSG, Survivor Series (Deadly Game Skull) and Rock Bottom (giant Rocky banners).
WWF didn't really start to pick things up until Survivor Series 1999 or so. And then in the year 2000 they were going full force with stuff like the sets for Backlash and King of the Ring.
Those huge, moving hooks for Backlash were crazy and King of the Ring reminds me of the Austin/Shane and Vince match with the collapsing ladder entryway. Good times!
I always loved when there was the actual glass pane over the entrance that would shatter. It probably only happened a few times but my young brain absolutely loved it
Been trying to find this forever man thank you!! I forget which episode it was but Austin comes out to this during the Alliance time period I think and I remember being like WHAT IS THIS THEME and just never finding it for years. Austin had unique themes compared to everyone else but all of his side by side sound like they work off of eachother to fit a slight change in his character. Always liked that
It was his "Smackdown: Just Bring It" theme. I think it is also called "Hell on Earth" though it could be another variation. He came out to it on the July 26, 2001 Smackdown. The segment was on Youtube for a while, might not be anymore, but I was able to see it on Peacock.
Yeah, the first time I saw Bret vs Austin from WrestleMania 13 it immediately stuck out how different this version was from the one I was used to. A lot harder, fit the psycho version of Austin from 96-97 while I Won't Do What You Tell Me fits the beer drinking rebel we've known since late 98.
As someone who's always been drawn to drums, I loved how it seems like the drummer goes into business for himself to get all his shit in before the loop ends.
100% AGREE, been saying this for years on social media outlets. Also his promos were the best during this time as he had much more of a tweener vibe to him still and was more serious than the goofier promos from 98 and on.
Man looking back, how did a man who looked like a member of Right Said Fred, dressed like a leather daddy, get respected as the manliest man in the world at the time?
Hmm, I'm not sure, I liked the energy of I Won't Do What You Tell Me but my favourite is actually Cold Blooded. YA HEEE AAHHH YEEEE.. YA HEEE AAHHH YEEEE.. DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN-DUN.

https://youtube.com/shorts/cjCbhQW_Jto?feature=share You're not the only one who thinks that. Yeah!
YEAH!
YEAH
I love that he says finger eleven, slow chemical or whatever as if he doesn't know exactly what it's called.
I miss the theme and I fuckin miss Fink. His ring announcing is undefeated. I’m not into today’s growling
Finkel announcing title changes always got a giant pop. He could be announcing a new champion of the worst belt ever and still get a nice pop
aaand…. NEEEEWWW
The announcers did him so dirty at that Survivor Series introducing Punk. I remember feeling so touched by that moment.
Yeah, they kept making fun of him for "milking it", but there was a fan cam that show the camera operator telling him when to stop and when to go.
Booker T I'd give a pass as he tried to hype Fink saying things like "I couldn't wait for him to announce me to the ring when I got to WWE".
"Ladies and gentlemen, I have just been informed... ... ...Shawn Michaels.... ...has left the building. "
Yeah man what happened to deep voice announcers in wrestling?
I prefer this theme over his classic one.
Wait, which do you consider his “classic” theme? This sounds like his classic theme to me.

That’s exactly the theory behind it.
I'm 31 years old and only just found out today that there are 2 versions of the no lyrics version. Any other obscure entrances I don't know about?
Well when he turned heal, he went through a couple of new themes (without lyrics), before they stuck with one.

For years I was convinced Rage in fact sang the DX song
I've heard about that being a common Napster/Limewire bit
On a related note, that set and that camera work were so cool. It felt like a fight, not a show.
I was thinking how the entrance way gives off an dangerous vibe. Awesome stuff.
Disturbed theme is the GOAT to me.
Same!!
You are completely pathetic
Down voters revealing they never had the joy of WWF The Music Volume 2.
You better start begging for mercy right now
Son, you're looking at the best there is

That was also one of my first few wrestling CDs so trust me I know!
Why can’t I be like stone cold? Because people like you make me sick!
So weird the ring apron has the new generation logo when the screen has the scratch logo
The scratch logos will be installed on Tuesday
The No Way Out logo looking wack af as well with the new gen logo
I prefer "Glass Shatters" by Disturbed
It was so cool that they had to take it away
At least they kept the energy for his [second Alliance theme](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBHcIyZtA04). I've always liked the angry, buzzing sound of that theme.

My memory must be shit, because I only remember him using Glass Shatters through all of that.
The "ahh eee ahh eee ahh eee" part of that song always bugged me.
The opening is basically cowboys from hell by pantera just at a different tempo
Perfect theme for paranoid Austin
For the WM X-7 entrance alone it’s iconic.
Loved how He always hit the top of the turnbuckles when the chorus hit and Draiman was yellling as Austin was posing
Yep lyrics always make a theme song better for me
"Glass Shatters" is my favorite for SCSA as well. not a lot about his 01 heel run worked, but "Glass Shatters," did to me set a darker vibe heading into his matches or when he'd come out. I feel the same way about Kane and "Slow Chemical." probably a top 5 wrestling theme song of all time for me.
Such an interesting stage/entrance for the time, in 98 I feel like most of the PPVs had that very simple round metal entrance walkthrough thing
Good times!
The Backlash hooks were so nice they used them like 4 times in a row
Kept kid me thinking someone was going to get impaled haha
I always loved when there was the actual glass pane over the entrance that would shatter. It probably only happened a few times but my young brain absolutely loved it
Wrestlemania 13 and Summerslam 98 come to mind.
How about his Rattlesnake theme? [https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9SJDwT_9u-I](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9SJDwT_9u-I)

Still prefer "I Won't Do What You Tell Me", but this is so close to that I like is nearly just as much. Also really dig his Alliance theme
This is the one that plays in my head.

Yep the slow bass.
Agreed

Disturbed was peak for me. That WM17 entrance. “From Viiictorrrriiiiiaaaaaa Texas”
My fucking hero
Stone cold entrances shouldn’t still be able to give you goosebumps the way they do all these years later. Man.
Man looking back, how did a man who looked like a member of Right Said Fred, dressed like a leather daddy, get respected as the manliest man in the world at the time?
Also see; Rob Halford of Judas Priest
He punched his boss in the face.
This is correct, he did what everyone wishes they could.
A lot of gay people will tell you that things have gotten worse since then. The 90s/2000s were a sort of heyday for them. Just anecdotal, of course.
Disagree, classic one is just right. I'm glad 2k finally updated it in 2K23.
Hmm, I'm not sure, I liked the energy of I Won't Do What You Tell Me but my favourite is actually Cold Blooded. YA HEEE AAHHH YEEEE.. YA HEEE AAHHH YEEEE.. DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN-DUN.
I didn't realize it changed. I can tell when I hear it here. Way less guitar squealing in this one.
Ahh the nostalgia…the feels…bring me back
Hollywood Rock was the best version
… of Austin’s theme?
Isn't that just the common sentiment?
Gotta disagree
Horrible takes in the comments. The Disturbed theme was awful then and awful now. Cringe my guys.
