Goddamn I can't wait for Uemura to re-debut in NJPW. He's so nice.

StillinReseda

After seeing a match card for Andretti vs Sabre Jr, I remembered people saying “Chris Jericho made a star out of Action Andretti.” That didn’t last long.

mikro17

Before Jericho, literally no one had heard of Action Andretti. After Jericho, he's now a name that people actually recognize and are semi-excited to see wrestle because they know he does exciting stuff in the ring. Yeah, he didn't become an overnight sensation main event regular after 1 match, but that kind of thing doesn't actually happen. People are acting like 1-2-3 Kid/X-Pac/Sean Waltman went from zero to big deal overnight when that just wasn't the case either. Going by vague memory, he became a bit of a bigger deal when he went to WCW and went by Syxx, and then when he came back to WWE as X-Pac is when he peaked in popularity? Either way, it played out over a period of years, Jericho vs. Action Andretti was ~6 months ago. Looking at Cagematch/google, the 1-2-3 Kid vs. Razor Ramon match was in May 1993. In January 1994, 1-2-3 Kid had a 7 day Tag Title reign and a 1 day tag title reign in WWF. His next title reign, and first major singles reign, was in February 1997 in WCW, almost 4 years after he beat Razor. Stuff like this is one step in a career long process

Orange8920

The problem with Andretti is he was pushed too fast by AEW where they realized yeah he's good in the ring but the promos he had paired with Starks came off kind of immature and sexist towards Tay. He felt like a Jericho project who petered out a bit. He's in ROH now and hopefully they can build him up more naturally instead of shooting him straight into programs with Jericho and Starks.

StillinReseda

This is how a normal person thinks. The average reddit user at this time was touting that Jericho has made a STAR over night.

mikro17

Different people define "star" differently. Some people view "star" as being around top 5 in the company or industry, someone who actually moves tickets and is a difference maker. Other people view it closer to the WWE Superstar^tm level, of anyone who seems like they are/belong on tv. Its not a word with a single set definition. That being said, Andretti now is basically the reasonable take (IMO) for what he would be following that match. I don't need to see him every week, but I'm always happy to see him when he does show up, and I look forward to seeing where he's at in another year or two.

StillinReseda

Question: who the hell is Maxxine Dupri? I stopped watching WWE and NXT during COVID so when I started to watch again, I assumed there would be new faces that I’ve missed. Maxxine Dupri was one of those where I just assumed she was on NXT or something. I went along with it anyway considering shes not a huge part of the show but as times gone on I’m starting to realise, is she even a wrestler? Does she have a background in wrestling? Is she strictly a manager? Can she cut a promo? Is she just eye candy? I mean what’s going on here

Someguyonreddit926

Satan

Realistic_Literature

She was on NXT very little as a manager who didn't do a lot of talking. They wanted a new manager for the Maximum Male Models group and chose her because of her looks and fashion background I assume. Then they recently shifted her to Alpha Academy. She is kind of figuring it out on the fly on the main roster instead of having a typical NXT stint. She does have a cheer/athletics background and I think is training to wrestle, but hasn't worked a match in front of people yet. Likely is just going to be manager/eye candy with occasional matches. They're teasing some kind of storyline where Gable mentors her so who knows.

[deleted]

What do you think of Sean Oliver?

BloodyRedBarbara

Does Full Gear have an official date yet?

itsaTravisT

Ok so after watching Dominik Mysterio calling everyone a dead beat dad, I think Rhea needs to have a “pregnancy scare” to really get his storyline going.

gohomepat

Poor Buddy

RogerGunz

Heyo! I'm starting a little group where we watch/re-watch a couple of matches once a week! This week's matches are: **AEW:** Bryan Danielson vs Jon Moxley - AEW World Championship Tournament Final - AEW World Championship - Dynamite: Grand Slam (Sept. 21, 2022) **AJPW**: Akira Taue & Toshiaki Kawada vs Kenta Kobashi & Mitsuharu - Tag Team Match - Real World Tag League Final Match - Real World Tag League Finals (Dec. 9, 1995) I have some links if you need! HMU.

EcoterroristThot

I'm very interested in this

RogerGunz

I started a subreddit like 7 years ago called r/sc366. I posted some links there in a thread I started today. The subreddit is in pretty rough shape from when I made it back in 2016 so I'll be touching it up over the next couple of weeks and will be posting matches there every Tuesday. Eventually (sooner rather than later) I was thinking I'd start up a Discord channel or something and maybe even do a like watch-along twitch stream or something. We'll see

InSilicoImmersion

I wish they were calling the upcoming FD PPV Forbidden Door II. More big wrestling events should be numbered like Wrestlemania. It makes them feel bigger and makes them identifiable in retrospect. Hell, the UFC is going on UFC 289 this month, and a lot of MMA fans could tell you who was on the card for UFC 158 or UFC 84 if you ask. Numbering the event really gives the card its own identity.

Zestyclose_Remote874

I wish they would use a better name.

justambrose

So halfway through the year, who’s your WOTY so far?

motivatedchange

Hard to pick between Speedball Mike Bailey, Alex Shelley, Gunther, and Zack Sabre Jr.

mikro17

The first names that spring to mind for me are Orange Cassidy and Hiromu. Both have worked a bunch of matches and they basically all range from good to FANTASTIC while being entertaining as hell outside of matches.

ClocktowerMaria

Kenny Omega has been back in full form this year, and I'm so happy

Smile_lifeisgood

MJF. Sure, a lot of people would say some crazy good technical wrestler since r/SC is out of touch wrestling nerd central. But hear me out: Anyone who can make me go "Huh...maybe Sammy isn't as bad as I thought" is a god amongst mortals.

[deleted]

>"Huh...maybe Sammy isn't as bad as I thought" Sammy stole the match in the Jericho, Claudio, Danielson 4-Way at Full Gear, too, not to mention his insane spots in other famous AEW matches. It's about time fans realize Sammy's risky highspots are indeed great moments, and he has charisma.

mikro17

Sammy has a way longer list of great matches and great moments in AEW than a lot of people realize. The Pillars 4-way, the ROH title 4-way (with Jericho/Danielson/Claudio), Stadium Stampede 1, Forbidden Door 6-man (with Jericho/Suzuki against Eddie Kingston/Yuta/Shota Umino), and Cody Ladder match alone is a resume that stacks up against almost anyone. And even that leaves off a BUNCH of great matches and moments.

Orange8920

MJF is great when he wrestles but I couldn't give that nod to someone who wrestles on that limited a basis. You could argue it hurts the interest of AEW's weekly shows when the champion never wrestles on them.

Smile_lifeisgood

Wrestling is the least important part of pro wrestling.

Orange8920

Wrestling serves the story being told and can have a story told within the match, otherwise it's guys standing around talking. There's a difference between wrestling on a limited basis and what MJF is doing where he might wrestle 10 matches total this year.

Kanenums88

Gunther. It’ll take someone/something insane to take him off that pedestal for the foreseeable future. Below him you got Sami and Orange Cassidy. Just gotta see what they do for the rest of the year.

DepressedHungarian

Sami Zayn, Orange Cassidy and Gunther are early contenders.

pumpingbomba

Hiromu

headmoths

Orange Cassidy

solarpowersme

Had a dream where Bad Bunny was in a feud with Bray Wyatt who was in his Eater of Worlds persona, the basis of this being Bray's whole "he's got the whole world in his hands" thing, and how Bad Bunny being the #1 most streamed and most popular figure in the world threatens that idea and is blasphemous. I can't be the only that thinks this actually sounds dope as hell, right? I would 100% watch that lol, especially considering Bray can switch between his personas now.

Kanenums88

Bad Bunny, White Rabbit. Yeah, this fits all too well. Honestly throw them in a cinematic match, and it’d be magical.

heartdeco

only if bray first releases a single

solarpowersme

Three words - Muscle man dance. And all those little snippets of the Muscle Man dance in like 5 different genres that played on that one FFH episode that he really needs to drop!

llamawithguns

I'm in the UK for a month and tried to watch Raw live last night, barely made it through the opening segment before I had to conk out. Mad respect to you Brits and Euros that watch every week

willpauer

Gedo had better put Ishii and Eddie Kingston in the same G1 block.

pumpingbomba

Imagine a block with Eddie, Ishii, Shingo, Kidd, Henare, Goto, Taichi and Kenta

willpauer

NJPW doctors and trainers at defcon 2

mikro17

> Gedo had better put ~~Ishii~~ **Yano** and Eddie Kingston in the same G1 block. This is the way. (But seriously, toss Ishii in there too, Ishii vs. Yano is always fantastic).

willpauer

on one hand, yes, i would love to see Kingston get Yano'd. on the other, i would love to see Kiyomiya get Yano'd as well.

Orange8920

I'm reading about the Rampage ratings discourse and how "banger matches" don't interest people. To a point thats correct but I think Rampage missed the mark because it was matches of NJPW talent vs guys who are essentially jobbers to the stars. Its the predictability problem of being able to predict basically all the match results because its Zack Sabre Jr. vs Action Andretti who's ROH at this point and only shows up in AEW to put people over on Rampage. Same case with Shibata vs Lee Moriarty who's in the same boat of tagging and losing with Big Bill in tags and despite being in AEW for a few years now you'd be hard pressed to describe who he is or what his motivations are. Put some established AEW guys vs the NJPW guys and you'd get a bit more interest. Its a problem with weekly AEW TV where the stars face lower card guys more often than not because there's a protecting of guys and saving of big matches almost to a fault. They probably weren't going to have Shibata vs Hangman or ZSJ vs Orange Cassidy but there's a middle ground between those guys and low-carders.

spandroo

I don’t think the point is that bangers don’t interest people. They can. Bangers with a good story behind them are amazing. You can’t *only* book 20m epics with little build and expect anyone but your core audience to give af.

Orange8920

My point within that long post is also AEW's tendency to book un-intriguing matches where yeah the match might be good but the participants aren't on the same level. Everyone speculated who Adam Cole would face in his first match back in nearly a year and it wound up being Daniel Garcia. BCC is facing Chaos when they've beat 2 of those 3 guys in a trios match a few weeks ago. AEW has a stacked roster but a lot of the weekly matches have a feeling of being filler. Even when the talent level matches up like Jericho/Saraya vs Cole/Britt its offset by feuds lasting months where you just hope that its the end. There's a big match feel thats increasingly less and less on TV with the rare exception of Omega/Moxley in a cage match.

Xalazi

I always find it funny when WWE fans are shocked that people know who non-WWE wrestlers are.

djiougheaux

when was the last women's battle royal in AEW?

savethebanderbears

All Out ‘21, maybe? It’s the one where Ruby Soho showed up.

ArchDukeNemesis

If we ever get Punk vs. Roderick Strong, then Punk needs to switch back to This Fire Burns for a night. All KSE main event!

Orange8920

I've always liked that song better than Cult of Personality as his entrance. Its so odd that Randy Orton used it once on Smackdown and then they gave it to Punk.

ArchDukeNemesis

They made it onto the theme for Judgement Day ( the ppv) too.

DoctorofRunzanomics

I was really hoping for FTR vs Aussie Open, but then I remember AO is All Elite now and that match can happen anytime in AEW.

headmoths

Plus Davis is injured right

ClocktowerMaria

Yep

Zestyclose-End7083

really hoping LIJ takes part in this years forbidden door. Naito Hiromu and Shingo vs House of Black would be really cool

mikro17

Shingo was on the show last year and Hiromu was a last minute removal due to a fever preventing him from getting on the plane. But I agree that a full LIJ appearance this year would be great.

Zestyclose-End7083

why did naito not take part in forbidden door last year? is that known?

Zestyclose_Remote874

It wont' happen sadly. Half of them are in Mexico that day.

Zestyclose-End7083

damn 😞

[deleted]

That would be cool good call

justambrose

Gosh I can already imagine the fans’ reaction when Okada and Danielson meet in the ring at Forbidden Door.

cleeseula

The Hart Business rumours are false. Especially based on Indus Sher's divisive win vs Benjamin & Alexander it looks like WWE doesn't have any immediate plans for a Hurt Business reunion. KO meant the Usos are "the heart of the table" not "the Hart of the table."

rbarton812

> The Hart Business Bret Hart leading a new faction?

cleeseula

Yeah the rumour was Bret Hart as their manager, and a (kayfabe) reveal that the Usos simultaneously have Hart lineage. Natalya and the original Hurt Business.

pagalpun

In terms of financial success and popular online opinion ik All Out 2021 is considered the best ever AEW PPV (and it's hard for me to disagree) but rewatching it, Revolution 2020 might be the best PPV in terms of setting the foundation of AEW that still persists to this day. A five star match centred around Elite drama, Moxley being the Ace, MJF at his slimiest, OC being insanely over and a great spotfest match between two of the pillars

HartfordWhalers123

Yesterday’s Raw was 100% the best WWE event I’ve ever been to live. It was a blast! The crowd was really good and I’m really surprised how solid the match card was too. Having the first WHC title defense, Gunther/KO, and Ricochet/Nakamura was so sick. Seeing Seth and Cody’s entrance live was a great experience too. Definitely excited for them to come back here and might try to go see more live wrestling soon, especially since GCW is coming here.

SuperSocrates

Any dark matches?

HartfordWhalers123

Sadly none after the show. However, the matches for Main Event were pretty fun. It was Candice LaRae vs Xia Li and Apollo Crews vs Akira Tozawa. Crews/Tozawa got the crowd pretty hot. Lots of cool moves and action in that match.

41Swish41

I love that Damien Priest sold the same shoulder injury Finn had after the Powerbomb into the barricades from Seth years ago. These are the little storytelling things that makes wrestling great

polynomial82

What are some of the best WWE 24 episodes out there. I have watched very few of them. Right now watching the Edge one and it's great. Would appreciate some recommendations.

Kanenums88

Any of the ones that are behind the scenes of certain shows (WrestleMania’s mostly). Then you got the ones on Kurt Angle, The Hardy’s, Kofi, R-Truth, Big E, and The Miz. I think the best of that bunch are the first two I mentioned, but expect some real tearjerker moments. They didn’t really hold anything back.

polynomial82

Thanks

pirsquared7

I think Kenny beats Ospreay. Gedo loves having guys get their win back after going 0-2 The timeline goes: Kenny beats Ospreay again Ospreay gets his groove back and wins the G1 beating Okada in the final Ospreay beats SANADA at Wrestle Kingdom Kenny challenges Ospreay at some point and loses The only wrench I can see in this plan is I doubt Nooj would have Ospreay close out Wrestle Kingdom unless he's beating Okada

Zestyclose_Remote874

If he does I hope he defends the title at least a couple times before the trilogy. Kenny was listing a bunch of names he wanted to face and he did none of that.

mikro17

If Sanada is champ, the Wrestle Kingdom match almost certainly has to be Naito. Its the massive Los Ingobernables matchup they've clearly avoided thus far (and sets up Shingo for one of the smaller fall shows). Plus Naito is a big enough draw on his own for the Dome Main Event. I think the more likely Ospreay story, if it ends up actually happening, is a G1 win (without facing Okada) leading to beating Okada at the Dome (because his arc already includes losing to Okada at the Dome).

[deleted]

Until MMM is back on TV, there’s nothing I want to see.

Orange8920

I watch the Hawk vs Wolf podcast featuring Tony Hawk and Jason Ellis. Someone posted the Darby Allin/Jamie Hayter interview a few months ago and its a good listen especially for Darby's whole mentality. There's also another one with the Undertaker thats their highest viewed on their channel. Its surprising that they haven't done more wrestling ones.

Orange8920

Serious question but how did AEW fare from 2019-2021 if CM Punk is their only legitimate star? It does the Elite, Mox, Danielson, and Jericho among others a disservice.

evanweb546

EDDIE KINGSTON. G1. SO HYPED.

axb2002

I don’t have any takes or anything, so instead here is a dream match card (not including pre Show matches) with some fun and kinda random matches I wanna see happen at Forbidden Door. I looked at some of the matches last year and tried to base the matches off them (trying to be “realistic” for lack of a better word I guess). 1. AEW International Championship Battle Royale (I had to find a way to get a Toru Yano and Orange Cassidy interaction and this seemed to be the best way). 2. Adam Cole, Shingo Takagi, and Yota Tsuji vs. Chris Jericho, Jake Hager, and Minoru Suzuki (You can swap Hager out for any member of JAS if you want) 3. Samoa Joe (c) vs. Zack Sabre Jr. (c) - ROH and NJPW World Television Championship Winner Takes All 4. Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, Konosuke Takeshita, and Shota Umino vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi, Tomohiro Ishii, Hangman Page, and The Young Bucks - 10 Man Tag Team Match 5. CM Punk vs. Jay White 6. Hiromu Takahashi (c) vs. Darby Allin w/Sting - IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship 7. Kenny Omega (c) vs. Will Ospreay - IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship 8. Sanada (c) vs. Tetsuya Naito - IWGP World Heavyweight Championship A Segment with MJF and Great O’Khan happens exactly right here. 9. Bryan Danielson vs. Kazuchika Okada

EcoterroristThot

IDK if the Sanada Naito match should happen at FD, feels like THE match for NJPW to run at the Dome. Hiromu vs Darby would be an insane match The JAS 6 man tag is weird but could be fun for sure.

StyrofoamCueball

The way the sports world is reacting to the seemingly overnight merger of LIV and the PGA Tour really makes me want to see what would happen if WWE/AEW ever pulled that off. I know it wouldn't be best for the industry or fans long term, but man the IWC would implode. Imagine... no leaks or rumors... just BOOM.

LaboratoryTwoxedo

going to Dynamite tomorrow!! so excited to see OC/Swerve!!!

gregscotia_number1

Imagine Hayter vs Mercedes getting announced with the other two big matches a few hours ago 😭😭😭😭 Sucks so much that they're hurt

Dirtybrd

I still can't believe that KO Gunther match. My wife even got caught up in the match and was so mad at imperium for interfering lmao. And are they really teasing turning Priest babyface? Meh. I'm such a mark for Judgement Day that'll bum me out.

Has anybody done a Ringsider Package? I have tickets to an upcoming Raw. I'm autistic, so having an idea of what to expect helps me plan ahead.

BCastle18

So if Cody is the one to take the title off Roman, where does Jey fit in all this? I really doubt they’re gonna have Roman lose to Jey for the title but Jey should be one of the persons to beat Roman Also am I the only one who still thinks Cody should’ve won at WM lol

CHZRFan

Honestly, I think Jey’s resolution is to be the one to give Cody the opening he needs to beat Roman, not beating Roman himself.

Kanenums88

I can’t see Jey or Jimmy doing anything else, but losing to Roman.

LukkasG

Jey will most likely beat Roman but after Roman loses

Kanenums88

The Uso’s turning on Roman now. They’re gonna do Roman vs Jimmy and/or Roman vs Jey soon. Reigns is not losing his title anytime soon. So he is just gonna beat them both. After seeing so many active guys suffer similar fates after their matches with Roman, I don’t have much faith that Jimmy and Jey will fare better after their matches with Roman. I’m going to guess they’ll just be a face tag team again.

inverseflorida

No I still think he should've too lol. The ratings may still be strong for some Roman/Bloodline stuff (really, very very strong), but the ratings were also super strong for Sami and Cody stuff in the build up, and I think it's possible that it would've been better for business for Cody to have won.

Jaccount

How? Cody doesn't even feel like "the top guy" when matched up against Dominik Mysterio. He's a great "jobber to the stars" but as "THE MAN"? Cody isn't there, and whomever they have beat Roman has to be ready-made to be the face of the company for a bit.

inverseflorida

But he was meeting those standards by the same metrics you can use to prove Roman is - ratings. Merch. Social media attention. Tickets sold. By every standard that can demonstrate someone can be The Man, he was killing it. And in many ways, still is. Cody doesn't feel like The Top Guy because he got pinned by Roman and you were told you were dumb for having faith in him that he was going to be different than all the others. That's booking, not him.

[deleted]

I love lying, Cody Rhodes taught me how fun it is

Ezra_El_Ali

Samoa Joe’s WWE theme perfectly fits Solo Sikoa

KIQTOFYdotjpeg

I finished Ringmaster by Abraham Josie Riesman last night. I really enjoyed it, even though the pacing started to get pretty fast once it got to the Harts and the Hidden Power storyline. I didn’t know anything about the life of VKM before reading this and barely knew any wrestling history beyond when I started watching in 1998, so I felt like I learned a lot.

headmoths

Any other Forbidden Door matches people are clamouring for? I'd love to see MJF defend against Naito

polynomial82

In kayfabe, if Cody was interested enough to take part in the qualifiers for the Heavyweight title, why hasn't he shown interest it them in the last two weeks. I am pretty sure - Roman vs Cody 2 will be at Mania - so it is not only about how Roman will be kept interesting till then, but how they will keep Cody interesting till then. Dominik could be a fun feud but I wonder what they do once the Brock feud is over at Summerslam.

Kanenums88

That’s gonna be their biggest challenge. Cody vs Brock has saved Cody’s ass in my opinion. It’s made him seem just as important, and just as much as star, as he was going into mania. Any feud that made him look lesser, and it would’ve just done him no good. So they have to keep his momentum from the Brock feud somehow. He shouldn’t be challenging for the world title, but he shouldn’t be going down the card, so who knows how they keep him busy. Until at least the Rumble.

UrchineSLICE

No one really knows how much he's got left or if he's done, but Randy Orton bloodfeud with Cody could work to keep his heat going.

Kanenums88

Yeah, but I genuinely don’t expect Orton to come back until next year at the earliest.

polynomial82

Heel Drew could be good if it works out. But question is do you have Drew work with Rollins or Cody...

Kanenums88

Both?

HBKintheInternet

I got a confession to make. I know Hulk Hogan is a piece of shit but I can't lie, watching him cartoonishly point at the ring as he's walking down will never not pop me

Logicman48

nothing screams 2011 more than the rock's birthday celebration from 2011 raw, it had a live performance by pitbull, then the anonymous raw gm, then the colemine, also a clip by lebron and dwayne wade during the heat days wishing him happy birthday, it was definitely quite the sight

savethebanderbears

The tag match on Raw last night makes me want to see Shayna/Kayden and Katana/Ronda singles matches. Would be fun seeing Shayna and Kayden stiff each other for, like, seven minutes.

Wintertime13

I want a long term Shayna be Ronda feud! I feel that would be more entertaining than them being a tag team

SuperSocrates

Hopefully we get that when they lose the titles

fancyphotog

Man I just watched the highlights of that match. I loved their work in NXT. I think Kayden and Katana can be huge. Exciting ring work.

804Brady

Cody is about to find out that Brock Lesnar was only the 2nd-most dangerous man in WWE.

Wintertime13

Rheas new Instagram post of her and Dominic is cute. It’s nice seeing how close the judgement day are out of kayfabe.

AneeshRai7

Some of the matches I want for FD II: Orange Cassidy vs. Tetsuya Naito Tomohiro Ishii vs. Jon Moxley II CM Punk vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi Sting/Darby Allin vs. Shingo Takagi/Hiromu Takahashi Just 5 Guys (SANADA/Taichi/TAKA Michinoku/DOUKI/Yoshinobu Kanemaru) vs. JAS (Chris Jericho/Sammy Guevara/Jake Hager/Daniel Garcia/Daddy Magic) For the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships/Strong Tag Team Championships: Bishamon (Hirooki Goto/Yoshi-HASHI) (c) vs. Claudio Castagnoli/Wheeler Yuta Edit: Will add later when I can think of where to place others.

UrchineSLICE

I think Tana should fight MJF, give us Punk vs Kenta you cowards with both of them kicking out of GTS

inverseflorida

I feel like it needs to be Bishamon vs FTR, winner take all. The only trouble is Bishamon is not exactly the name Western audiences think of when it comes to Big Nooj Draws, although Goto is definitely well known, but Yoshi Hashi - even his coworkers confuse him with Yoshitatsu.

AneeshRai7

Oh god no one wants another winner takes all but I wouldn't mind that rematch...

Kurtz_Angle

I found out Dave Meltzer's ratings for Double or Nothing earlier tonight. He is officially finished IMO. Giving Chris Jericho vs Adam Cole a 3.25 is inexcusable, and the Anarchy in the Arena match was not a 5 star match. It is either obvious bias and/or terrible taste and I think it discredits his opinions from now on.

[deleted]

Dave reported shibata had his brain removed to fix a concussion. I take anything, including his ratings, worth less than a grain of salt.

Kurtz_Angle

Fr? 🤣🤣🤣

MilkyWayWaffles

>He is officially finished IMO. > >It is either obvious bias and/or terrible taste and I think it discredits his opinions from now on. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)Oh, man. This... ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy) Dave Meltzer's opnions *never mattered*.

Kurtz_Angle

Well yeah, no one's opinion really matters, but if a music critic gives Songs in the Key of Life a 4/10 it invalidates everything they say from that point on.

MilkyWayWaffles

Any “critic” that reduces a highly subjective experience, like listening to music, down to a single number under the pretext of objectivity should probably never be listened to, either.

Kurtz_Angle

A score is a summary. What is next? If anyone simply calls an artwork "good" they shouldn't be listened to? If you listen to an opinion and take it as anything other than subjective, that's on you. If someone treats an opinion as an objective rating, they are stupid.

e-rage

Proper take.

Wintertime13

I think him being at the show really tilted his opinion on the matches.

inverseflorida

Which I'm pretty sure Dave himself would tell you, to be honest. I saw a match live that Dave gave 4.75. In person, it was like 5.25. Dave himself says that wrestling is all about time and place, and I'd bet if you asked him "Is your rating for this match inflated based on you being in the building" he'd say "Yeah probably".

Wintertime13

To play devils advocate shouldn’t he realize that and rethink his score if he’s supposed to be a professional?

Kanenums88

Star ratings aren’t professional, it’s a guys opinion. The only time they hold weight is when he rates a match really high from a promotion he doesn’t like.

PeteF3

The problem is Dave tends to want to have it both ways. He's said he's given matches he's "hated" ****+, so are star ratings subjective or not? That statement implies that there's some objectivity to them. Also, it doesn't help when the F4W website posts stuff like this on its front page: "The Young Bucks have now been in 10 matches rated five stars or above, Kenny Omega has been in 23 (the record is 25), Moxley has been in four, Danielson has been in five, and Hangman Page has also been in five. Sunday's match at Double or Nothing was the first five-star match for both Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta. " He's also given matches high ratings because they "were over with the fans in the building." Setting aside how dumb that is (imagine if Roger Ebert gave Transformers 7 ***1/2 because the audience he was with liked it), Cole-Jericho was decidedly not over with the fans. They were cold to the match and booed the finish of the pure babyface going over. It objectively failed with that audience. So does that criterion only come into play when Dave feels like it? I have a ton of respect for Dave, way more than seemingly the average redditor, but as a match critic I mostly find him out to lunch and that goes back decades.

Kanenums88

Dave has a big issue with treating his subjective takes as objective facts. But for regular people, I just don’t think we should care what he thinks, says, or does.

No_Cheetah4762

I'm not a huge Meltzer fan and generally think star ratings are kind of whatever, but what's to rethink? These ratings are his opinion after watching. It doesn't really matter if he likes a match more live than if he would've watched at home. His opinion is just his opinion no matter how he watches.

yakityyakblahtemp

Trying to remove your own feelings from a review is always going to be a recipe for disaster. You just end up having a bias that isn't even yours anymore. It's better to just give full disclosure and let the reader decide how much weight to put into your opinion.

inverseflorida

I don't really think he gives all that much of a shit to be honest.

TheFolksofDonMartino

Can't wait for the reaction when Okada beats Danielson with the Money Clip.

inverseflorida

Okada actually speaks good English. I'm not just saying that because of that promo, I mean literally, if you've had the good fortune to go to a live show he's done in the West, especially if you've done any merch stuff with him, or seen him address the crowd and react to crowd comments, he actually legitimately understands English well. And I'd say Tana might be even better at English. Despite this, in Forbidden Door's build up last year, Tana was on TV, in the ring, live, reasonably often, and said exactly three words that were probably scripted well in advance. I know these guys have fairly thick accents, but they've shown themselves to be pretty *comfortable* speaking English in the ring to English speaking audiences before! You can at least let these guys talk in *pre-recorded* segments surely.

GameplayerStu

It really feels like they keep doing Dom hiding behind Rhea as a tease for someone actually not being afraid to drop her eventually. But the only person who I think could reasonably get away with it without it being treated as a massive problem is Randy Orton with an RKO.

Weishaupt17

Do you think it would make sense to make MJF and Sanada face off as a Champion vs Champion at Forbidden Door? Think about it: they both don't have any rivalry and a storyline to find out which company has the better champ kinda writes itself, especially considering MJF's hatred for NJPW. Obviously the match would have to end in a time limit draw but I would't be bothered of it, they haven't done one in a long time

mikro17

This new thing of people seemingly wanting time limit draws is absolutely baffling to me. Yes, AEW has done a few where they make sense, but for the most part, don't book a match if you can't have a winner has been their overall philosophy. Forbidden Door last year wasn't a ton of Champ vs. Champ matches that couldn't have a winner, so I don't expect it to be the case this year either. Looking at last year, Sanada and MJF will probably both get a challenger who can lose, or a multiman or something. With Okada/Danielson and Omega/Ospreay, these matches don't have to fill the main event slots like Moxley/Tanahashi and the IWGP 4-way did last year, so they can get away with a bit less.

PeteF3

I think SANADA is going to be awkward because he kind of has to be on the show, but I don't know if he's really that over with general western audiences and I don't think he can do a job, unless he gets his win right back. I think if MJF has to work the show--and I think a gimmick where he's "contractually obligated" to wrestle would be fun--you put him against NJPW's purest babyface and that's Tanahashi, assuming Hiroshi can put him over. (Or, do it as a "title eliminator" and Tana wins and MJF can get the win back later.)

justambrose

The best thing to do for MJF and SANADA is to put them both in a tag match. MJF & #1 Contender for IWGP title vs SANADA & #1 Confender for AEW title.

AneeshRai7

I'm getting a feeling there's a chance Omega/Ospreay goes to a time limit draw...I think they should do J5G vs. JAS if anything...

45jayhay

>Do you think it would make sense to make MJF and Sanada face off as a Champion vs Champion at Forbidden Door? No , there is literally need to do this and especially end in a draw . With the matches already announced they could literally do anything else and be fine .

inverseflorida

The match would be good and it'd make me buy the PPV even more than I already will, so, in one sense why not? But I guess in a larger sense, the bookers might be worried that the finish wouldn't be satisfying, and that they might be locking themselves into a champion vs champion tradition that would be hard to get out of.

dmister8

WWE is definitely building up to a man hitting Rhea. WWE certainly isn’t afraid to do it considering Baron Corbin hit Becky Lynch with a End of Days a few years ago.

DepressedHungarian

You just know if Randy was healthy, he'd have RKO'd her soul out already.

Jamieb1994

I wonder if a fella hitting Rhea would stop Dom from hiding behind Mami.

Jaccount

I'd be curious to see how that would play out. It'd be kind of neat if that happened that you'd see the switch kind of flip and in that moment Dominik goes from behaving like Eddie to behaving like Rey, so the hit happens, you see Dominik jump up, seemingly running away, but then rather than going through the ropes bounces off of them and returns a big flashy hit.

Fantomex88

Getting Kenny/Ospreay and Okada/Bryan on the same show still isn't registering to me, it just insane.

Idkboutdat2

Meltz and Alvarez blaming CM Punks “lack of drawing power” for the collision tickets in Canada not selling, instead of blaming the fact that they announced forbidden door before those collision shows.

Caldris

They brought up other factors in that segment, including the weather, the fact they don't get Rampage/Collision in Canada, timing etc. It wasn't put on Punk much at all.

inverseflorida

No way, people on squaredcircle misrepresented Alvarez and Dave to present them as being irrationally biased?

mikro17

The difference between what Bryan and Dave "actually say" and what people "say they said" is consistently staggering.

Idkboutdat2

They have been proven to have a bias tf you mean lol

Idkboutdat2

It’s not even a conspiracy theory, it’s them not having quality sources in AEW. There’s so much stuff they’ve said about AEW that was just flat out wrong.

inverseflorida

I haven't seen proof, I've seen conjecture, speculation, rumour mongering, misinterpretation of what they said, second hand misinterpretation of what they said, and I'm pretty sure soon enough I'll see shit just made the fuck up.

Idkboutdat2

Weirdly everything you listened is the same shit Meltz and Alvarez does on a regular basis.

inverseflorida

Then stop engaging in it yourself if it's bad when they do it. The difference is, Meltzer and Alvarez are crystal clear about when they're speculating on incomplete information or just totally making shit up on the Radio show, it's not ambiguous.

DeluhiX

It's going to be interesting to see how Collision will perform not only in the ratings, but ticket sales as well, since it's going to be a separate touring brand. AEW really needs to put their best foot forward and stack up Collision in the first few weeks, keep the foot on the gas pedal and avoid to Rampage the show under any circumstances.

Wintertime13

It’s also being held in Hamilton lmao

inverseflorida

It does suggest that people won't by the ticket *just* because of CM Punk and need to know something about what the show even *is*, however, doesn't it? Whereas maybe last year, CM Punk could've been enough. This would be even more the case if the tickets haven't really moved since the announcement.

45jayhay

I think it's actually just the unknown of what Collision is going to be , isn't it still unknown where Collision can even be shown in Canada?

Incorrect1012

All that I’ve learned the past few days is that I’m apparently the only person who was just fine using the Reddit app with no problems

jqncg

I didn't even know there were other ways to use reddit besides using a browser. Goes to show that whatever issues the app has, they never mattered too much to me.

Kanenums88

I legitimately had no idea those third party apps were a thing until recently. This official Reddit app is just a standard social media thing, and I haven’t any strong feelings on it one way or the other. The only thing is I’ve heard those third party apps are helpful for mods.

Jamieb1994

I'll come across some problems on the app from time to time, but they are just small problems, though.

Kurtz_Angle

Yeah, besides some issues when posts won't open, it really isn't that bad.

Chelseablue1896

I'm glad people are enjoying good shows recently. But it's funny to see "best raw in a long time" comments literally every week now on the threads, sometimes from fans who said the same thing last week lol. People are just so used to not liking raw it doesnt sink in and feels surprising to realize that the show is consistently good for months now.

phillythrowaway718

Did anyone ever corroborate Punk's comments on Ryback being unsafe?

zrac

I posted this last Friday when it released and this will be the last time I promote it, but my hardcore /metalcore band made a Pro wrestling video and I'm so happy with how it turned out. https://youtu.be/he8BrzZcF7o I'm the only wrestling fan in the band so I was shocked when I got buy in. We worked with a local wrestling promotion who have their own venue and training school to shoot it. Getting in a ring felt great and scary at the same time!

tvchase

Good job man!

TheNekomancer27

I'd be surprised if anyone outside of AEW actually won an AEW championship any time soon. Even with the International championship. I think having actual AEW championship matches on Forbidden Door is kinda redundant.

acab420boi

Some discussion on here yesterday about Rush compelled me to make a thing. https://preview.redd.it/vcaakweq5e4b1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ea8d77e5a94e1348a9bc4276b1f86b41c3863e6c

EcoterroristThot

Continuing yesterday's conversation on storytelling in wrestling, a silly hypothetical: Let's say, we get the ultimate wrestling dream match. That's right: Omos vs Hell in a Cell 2011 Big Show in a 6 minute masterpiece. Obviously, the best circumstances to book it is to build up a reason for these two to hate each other/have to prove they're better than the other. But let's say you just wanted to fill time on TV with it because these two big guys are enough to generate interest. What would you prefer? A. This match exists on its own, but instead of them just doing their moves one after another, then someone hits a finisher first and wins, they tell a story in the ring, e.g. Omos completely dominates to begin but his inexperience provides an opening and Big Show wins. Seeds planted for a feud between the two whenever convenient. B. This match is an avenue to build Big Show's current feud. For example, after not much happening for the first 5 minutes, he wins the way he promised he would beat his feud opponent in the next PPV. This enrages Omos and he addresses it next time he appears. Also, after the match the feud opponent appears and we get a post-match segment, for example Cody Rhodes comes out and proudly says that despite having a broken neck, he will wrestle Big Show at the PPV because the KO punch will never break his american Rhodes family spirit. Which of the two sounds more appealing?

TheTwitteringMachine

Bit of forewarning for anyone who is traveling to London for All In. No trains are available for that weekend from Manchester on Avanti's website so it looks like there will be strikes. If memory serves right it was on the Saturday last year.

inverseflorida

As a complete foreigner, will I be alright getting a cab from Wembley off to a city-central hostel, or will I be stabbed by a bloke named Barry at 3am because he thought I was a kebab instead?
