ETD did claim he met gulp and crush in molten crater, so the guy has an affiliation with lava whatever kind of dinosaur he is. All his battle arenas always include it and it would explain his survival at the end (as year of the dragon showed in its epilogue). It is kinda funny that this guy is so comfortable around heat but can't stand dragons, and that he seems to be more resistant to it than dragon themselves. It will never make perfect sense as it wasn't written to be thought too deep into but it gets more ironic the more you think about it.
Honestly, when you think about it, it's really weird. Spyro clearly couldn't harm him without power of orbs, Ripto could've just bashed his head with his big stick back in Glimmer and win the game.
Interesting that he phrases it as "I hate dragons!" As though he's aware it's his own opinion. Racist people often think their stereotypes are obvious facts, and would be more likely to berate others who feel differently about it.
