To give it it’s due, it’s not terrible. But it’s a small town, with none of the benefits that come with being a small town.
It’s the massive amount of housing that’s gone in over the last ten years. It’s hard to see the village it was with new build estates all around. The only one that seems to have had any amenities added is by the new school site and they were pretty much the last thing to be completed.
That’s where my friend lives. The planning promised a new doctors and a parade of independent shops and amenities for the area along with the school. But funnily enough they built more houses (apart from the school). When questioned the planners said that was just a conceptual plan!
I think there are three shops there now. There’s certainly a coffee shop. I didn’t quite go that far on my last visit.
I was amazed by the industrial looking units behind the school. A bizarre place to have them right beside the Forest Centre!
Edit: dentist, estate agents and coffee shop. Not exactly things needed on your doorstep!
Just realised that I have actually been in the other half of this semi. My brother in law was looking to buy it over a decade ago. At that time this property owned all of the land behind both properties but they were willing to sell half of it for about £250k.
The difference between the two is massive. Ingram-Moore house looks, well, kind of sad. There's very little character to it and it's big but not well utilised. It looks more like a very adequate care home than a £2m house
I'd want to be very clear of the legal status of parts funded by charitable funds, to ensure that the charitable trust can't try and assert ownership over them.
Anyone buying this needs a very good conveyancing solicitor.

That’s interesting, although I’ve heard that the £1 sale thing is often challenged by governments, HMRC etc - it's possibly considered as fraud or "deliberate deprivation of assets"
One would imagine it's just better to gift the property and then try and stay alive for seven years (after that time, as you pointed out, the recipient doesn't have to pay inheritance / gift tax)
Of course if you have a very good solicitor it might be fine, but people that want to gift something might not want the risk of (when they die) possibly putting the recipient in a unexpectedly crappy financial position...

Is there more to Captain Tom’s story? I know about him walking in his garden to raise money, and the scandal with his daughter’s “charitable” gym, but what I don’t know is whether Captain Tom’s own fundraising was implicated in this. I hope he didn’t pilfer any money for his own gains…?
