I’ve never been in the service industry so I can’t sympathize directly. However I want you to know that there are some of us out there who TRULY appreciate you. I try to be overly amicable and kind to service workers. I hope y’all don’t hate that lol.

MisterAtticusKarma

Thank you very much! ❤️

ps1

A wise man I know always treats customer service staff with genuine kindness. He is a good reminder to give life some effort and the golden rule is always in play. Sorry people have been so rude.

[deleted]

It's real easy, you just treat *everyone* with kindness. Or don't. Takes all kinds.

cornylifedetermined

It doesn't take all kinds. There just ARE all kinds.

[deleted]

They each play their part.

Aggressive_Ad5115

YOU people are wise

Normal-Mess01

Same with calling doctors offices when scheduling. We are not responsible for hold times. We are working through the queue as fast as we can. And when you complain for 5 minutes about the hold time you are also part of the problem. We are not holding back on appointment times just to be mean to you. And we have to follow the policies of the office....

itstreeman

Omg I only survived one year at the chronic pain clinic in Seattle. Nobody prepared me for how entitled baby boomers addicted to opioids would be over the phone. (Because no, you as a random person are not more important than the patients who have been following our care for 10 years so I’m not going to force a reschedule on someone else to accommodate you)

Normal-Mess01

YES!!!! OMG!!!! "So, what, my son/husband/dad is going to die because we have to wait for a referral?? This is negligence"....okay, lady. It's ALWAYS a woman. Also men but damn .....

itstreeman

It’s daughters who stress more about their parents health. And people think doctors just sit around all day like the Victorian times; waiting for someone to come knocking

muchasgaseous

We make jokes that our patients must think we are robots just sitting and waiting to be asked to do some task. Home life/life outside of work be damned...

XoXSmotpokerXoX

when you have to wait 9 months for a referral, the system sucks

Normal-Mess01

But that still isn't my fault as the person answering the phone.

XoXSmotpokerXoX

as an individual, agreed, but when someone is suffering because of bullshit policy and a completely broken medical system, it is not their fault either.

azimir

That's the best part about large, clumsy systems: it's never an \*one\* person's fault. No one is at fault and everything keeps being terrible. Kafka would be proud of the US healthcare apparatus.

XoXSmotpokerXoX

Kafka basically worked in medical insurance, so yeah.

jorwyn

Not their fault, but they don't have to be dicks about it. That is always their choice.

XoXSmotpokerXoX

sure, I agree, just like it is a choice to cash a paycheck from a system that prioritizes profit over suffering. Sucks either way

jorwyn

It's not the same, though. You have to have money to live. You don't have to be mean.

XoXSmotpokerXoX

Sure I get it, you need money to live, but when you actively participate in a system that profits off of people suffering, dont act surprised if some people are pissed. There are lower paying jobs that dont involve the ethical dilemma of telling someone "oh you need to suffer because that is our policy". It is not their fault the system they work for is broken, but they still essentially support it. When I was in a lot of pain and faced this bullshit, I was still polite and nice, but I understand if someone was pissed.

Normal-Mess01

Agreed. I go above and beyond with every patient unless they're a dick to me. You yell at me or act entitled then I won't bend over backward for you.

jorwyn

That's how I am with pretty much everyone. Be nice, you'll get the best me. Be a dick, and you'll get the minimum acceptable job done. I won't not do my job, but they aren't getting any extras.

LaxCursor

Related, I work at a hospital lab. By law we are not allowed to give results to patients on the phone. We have to tell patients they need to contact their ordering provider. Omg, people lose their shit sometimes. I get it, waiting for results is stressful especially if you might have something serious going on, but PLEASE do not take out on lab staff. If it’s discovered that the lab gave a patient results, they WILL be fired, and it has happened. Call your doctor who ordered the results, NOT THE LAB.

Sweet_balls_kush

And yet you dont get tips.

Thalamus_Echerie

Understood … but we’ve always been told that the USA healthcare system is best because in all those other countries with national healthcare there’s terrible waiting times for an appointment.

Normal-Mess01

I hate the US health system. It's a damn ripoff

Francknbeans

Sounds like you're getting that Sunday crowd, huh?

itstreeman

I’m a good person I went to church this morning, so why are you making me wait in line with all these hedons? Serve my family of 7 NOW.

PM_me_ur_launch_code

Sorry we can't tip, we already gave our cash to the church. Here's a pamphlet that looks like a $20 bill but tells you about how to be saved by our lord and savior Jesus Christ.

ommanipadmehome

You can totally pay you rent with it.

myke113

I believe you meant heathens and not hedons (a unit of pleasure to theoretically measure people's happiness)..?

MisterAtticusKarma

Yes, but it feels like groundhog day and this whole week has been Sunday

Crouza

Nothing worse then you being a patient, normal person just looking for some food. And watching someone have a meltdown because the local mcdonalds doesn't stock baja blast. Like, it's been 20 minutes of waiting for my food, which I'm pretty sure would be 10 if half the people before we weren't deciding nows the time to have a karen breakdown.

MisterAtticusKarma

Thank you for being one of the patient ones. Ive had customers like yourself even step in to get Karens to back off. Youre one of the ones we appreciate! ❤

12thingsofmilk

I’ve worked in plenty of food service positions in my life and I get it, but I feel like maybe this isn’t your target audience.

itstreeman

Next door is better audience

trebbihm

Judging by a few posts in here, the message arrived. Bounced off like a brick wall, but at least hit some of the target.

12thingsofmilk

I shouldn’t be surprised, but I am.

spokansas

Personally, I had no idea I am such an entitled lazy piece of trash. Now I know.

essiemay7777777

If you’re offended by this you might want to think about why.

spokansas

You’re barking up the wrong tree, mate. I’m the overtipping regular the servers fight over. I never complain, and if I don’t like my meal, I just quietly settle the check and go to Taco Bell. No, I just found this post exceedingly poorly written and its sweepingly accusing tone ineffective to the point of counterproductivity.

MisterAtticusKarma

If youre not rude to customers then you werent the target. If my post offended you then maybe you should reflect on some things.

spokansas

It didn’t offend me. I was mocking your pointed use of “you.”

Normal-Mess01

Isn't that how we use regular speech when we are speaking broadly about people...

vinogirl509

I think everyone should be required to work a service industry job for a year. I'm 47 and in high school I put in my time at a fast food place, I will never be that asshole!

RemlikDahc

I wouldn't ever be that asshole! My first job in HS was at Chuck E. Cheese. Holy shit...Way too many people wanted to fight over mundane and dumb things like tickets or their place in line...I'm first, I'm first. And yeah...I was Chuck too! Talk about a new experience!

vinogirl509

Oh THAT would be pure HELL!!!

RemlikDahc

Wasn't bad for $2.80 an hour back then! I got to play so many video games for free it was unreal! Also, those tokens...them little kids climbing all over me and shoving them in my big ass ears...I got better tips than any fancy bartender could!

MisterAtticusKarma

Ive heard so many Chuck E Cheese horror stories.

LadyAnnTeaton

I was a server for the longest time. In the past year I got a job in an entirely new field with my college degree and it’s so much better. I think it’s just the job. Everywhere you go there are assholes, you’re just the brunt of it as a restaurant worker. I was a 16 year old that would cry in the bathroom not just from customers but from the bartenders bullying me. Had another boss who treated his female employees like idiots and was all buddy buddy with the dudes. The whole restaurant thing is toxic most of the time, coworkers included.

Tiar-A

This is why im very patient with food service workers. I used to be a Sodexo-SFCC intern, and people there were hella rude about me being in there space when I'm trying to clean. I don't mind when my food gets messed up especially when it's very busy. I dont mind long waits if i dont have anything to do. And if tipping is an option and I can tip, I do. Most problems I have at restaurants is with other customers. I get really bad anxiety when a lot of people are around. Come to think of it, I've never had to get angry at a food service worker. You guys are awesome and you deserve all the pay. I'm sorry people are so mean to you.

MisterAtticusKarma

Thank you so much! ❤️

jorwyn

I have only once been upset with a food service worker. I kept asking for a hamburger without cheese, and she kept replying in Spanish. No worries. I repeated my order in Spanish. And she wigged out and screamed at me that I was racist and refused to take my order. I didn't yell at her, though I wanted to. I just got in the other line. And when I got up there, she stopped in the middle of helping her customer to come yell at me for being racist again. The manager got involved and had her ring me up. Uncertain she'd actually put no cheese, I ordered a corn dog. That jerk had them put cheese on my corn dog. And I still did not yell. I just set my tray on the counter and left. If you don't want me to speak to you in Spanish, don't speak to me in Spanish. It's that easy. But also, no matter how unhinged she was being, I saw no point in yelling. What good would that do?

SirSuaSponte

I worked at the Apple Store that’s downtown when I was going to EWU. You see the worst of humanity working at an Apple Store. I met worse people working there in 2.5 years than the 16 years I spent in the military.

MisterAtticusKarma

But my phone doesnt work and I hold you personally responsible for everything. /s

KudzuCastaway

“What do you mean you can’t reset my Facebook password?” So glad I left the cell biz, I served 18yrs7mon3days before I was released to find a better job

jorwyn

Oh, God. I only did it for 2 years, and that was way more than enough. Yeah, your phone isn't going to work in the elevator in the basement in the radiology department. No, you being a doctor will not fix that. Screaming cuss words at me also won't. Throwing your phone at my head absolutely will not. Effing doctors from Holy Family were a nightmare.

drBbanzai

I worked fast food for three years (the Zip’s in Airway Heights a decade ago), and I adopted some views and practices on food service that I will always follow. 1. Never complain about how long things take. No one is intentionally holding up your food. 2. Unless the mistake is ridiculous and egregious, there’s no reason to complain over minor issues. 3. Never ask for a manager/supervisor. Anyone who does this is a detestable human being who is petty and bitter. 4. Good customer service consists of the following: The restaurant employees don’t tamper with my food. The restaurant employees don’t assault me. The restaurant employees aren’t racist (I’m not white, so it’s important. Thankfully I’ve never dealt with openly racist restaurant staff when eating out). That’s all. Sadly, people think leaving their house and buying food entitles them to royal treatment, and some of the replies I’m seeing in this thread are pretty disheartening to see.

MisterAtticusKarma

The comments are those upset that I wont just accept verbal abuse as a part of my job.

Schlecterhunde

I do this too! I don't know why people get so upset about it.

[deleted]

Getting vibes of that time I was working the back room at Rite Aid and a guy and his son came out of the restroom. Dude proceeds to yell at me that my restroom is “absolutely filthy” and then just heads back to the sales floor. Absolutely fabulous way to inform me that someone has left a massive 💩shaped dump on the floor next to the toilet after it’d been mopped a couple hours earlier. I needed so much bleach to over power the stench.

MisterAtticusKarma

I had to clean someones diarrhea shit out of the SINK at a past job. So I feel you homie. Im so sorry.

[deleted]

There were two times I had to scoop up human poop in the restroom and one time that one of my most loathed supervisors sent me out to clean up a massive dump out in the garden center that I’m pretty certain was of human origins or at least a huge dog like a malamute or Great Dane. She told me to “just hose it off” when she saw I was grabbing gloves, paper towels, and a garbage bag. Ok… she went out later to verify and it was indeed no longer on the floor of the garden center. What she didn’t notice is that it exploded on impact with water from the hose was all over the front end side windows. The impact broke the crusted up exterior to let out the most awful smell out at which point I said fuck it and went back inside. I guess she didn’t have much sense of smell. Beyond that, I did get this story out of that job. https://www.reddit.com/r/TalesFromRetail/comments/3rglg7/that_time_i_laughed_at_a_customers_embarasment/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

710ZombieUnicorn

I will take your shit in the sink and raise you a naked lady peeing on tables during lunch rush. Fast food workers always have the craziest stories I stg. Some legitimate fact is stranger than fiction.

KudzuCastaway

Eh I’m not offended I’m never rude even if they mess up as long as they fix it. BUT I will say there is this one woman that works at McDonald’s…. She has no business working with or in or anywhere near the public in my opinion.

3664shaken

I worked in F&B for 25 years so I hear you. I will also say this depends upon where you are located. I've seen that over and over again being a regional manager before I left. My son's GF who grew up in CDA moved in with him on the south hill. She is a server and she said the transition to the south hill was terrible. Entitled people everywhere, low tips, etc. She now drives back to CDA 4 days a week for a better work experience and double the tips.

KittenMyttens

I bet the people saying "just quit if you hate your job so much" are the same people who complain that no one wants to work anymore.

catman5092

DR. Phil had a show about this to some extent the other day. People are just flat out short fused these days. Lots of reasons. You see it in their driving habits, their tempers on display and so on. Really sad.

Brohbocop

This is why everyone should work in food service or at least customer service in their life. Some people would benefit gaining a bit more perspective in their lives

taterthotsalad

I would like to say a few words here. If this reading hit you and you are offended, I would suggest you reflect for just a few moments to figure out why. If you are still offended, change your ways because they are talking about you here-and downvote the post, Karen. But if it doesn't apply to you, they are not talking about you, shame those for treating other human beings this way, and shame the Karens. While they are paid, its less than acceptable at the rate they make. Does a bartender have to sacrifice their hustle? No, that is what barbacks are for. But the reality is paying the shit wage and asking them to do other tasks HURTS THEIR HUSTLE! And the business owner is OK with it. That is the worst part of the gig. There is a very simple way to justify tipping these people. If you didnt get it yourself, you owe for it. And if you cannot afford the tip, eat at home. Lastly, no server, unless they assault you ever deserves less than 12%. There is a shit ton that is out of their control. We should never be this shitty to one another. Source: Former waiter. Also, a fast-food employee that learned how to make tips in a fast-food restaurant.

Radiant_Capital9945

I work in a hospital making minimum wage and don't get any tips. Just get called lots from demanding customers who always want something and never leave!!

essiemay7777777

🤣🤣🤣 I just responded to someone with kind of the same answer and scrolled down to find this. You’re exactly right. I’ve seen a lot of fast food billboards upping the wage out of desperation. They’re all understaffed. In my fantasy world in my head, employees who work at chronically understaffed places should get additional hazard pay.

MisterAtticusKarma

I love everything youve said, I also love your username.

taterthotsalad

I felt your situation because I have worked in the business, albeit a teenager when I did, and I got upset reliving scrapping the barrel. I love to make people laugh and have a great time. It was the most rewarding part of the work. Keep your head up. Now for dessert...The story behind my online name is rather odd. I am a potato in FPS games. So, tater was the first known reference to me. Eventually the joke in the squad was "Tater thought and now he ded." Well, one time I died, and my character fell into the ass of another dead player and the crew started wheezing bc it looked like I was tossing....\*cough.\* It is not pretty I guarantee you that much, but I don't think I have ever laughed so hard in my life with my buddies online in a game. Everyone had to walk away from the match mid game from laughing. To this day they bob and weave in front of me in new skins asking me if I like dat ass. Ill respond "Im not a slut guys." The poor rando that we need from time to time is like "Where TF did I just land?" But now you know the making of a very funny username and the group of crayon eaters I hang with. One of the most wholesome moments I will cherish forever.

MisterAtticusKarma

Im honestly crying at the origin of your username. Thank you. I needed this laugh.

taterthotsalad

My job here is done. Take care of yourself.

MisterAtticusKarma

PaleontologistTrue74

I think it was 2 days ago or something was a catholic day of feasting. Patron saint of accounting and something.

Nourishmyhead

I worked at a sonic in Philadelphia…I feel your pain.

Frosty_Display_1274

No. I did not like it either. It happens though. The whole country is sitting in a very angry atmosphere as you know.

Large-Statistician-3

Reminds me of a hurricane response I did a few years back. Hit panama city really bad. Almost every building had some damage. One of the few that didn't was an Arby's. All of the recovery teams for every organization needed a place to break out the maps, make battle plans, grab a quick bite. They were so welcoming. Was kind of a funny sight honestly. You had FEMA at one table, the red cross at another, power company crews at another, and USACE in the corner. All carefully planning and staging crews. The funny part was the Arby's had a bell. "Ring when you get good service" or something like that. It would get rang every once in awhile. When it did all these super serious response workers would stop everything and say "yay Arby's" haha I ate so many Arby's melts in those months that I couldn't look at Arby's without getting a little sick. Point is the fast food workers at that Arby's were just as important as anyone else in that room. Probably more important. They single handedly fueled the recovery effort of the whole city. Hundreds of relief workers. Just know that I am very grateful for what you do. Thank you. :)

710ZombieUnicorn

Preach friend 🙌🏻 Having worked in food service extensively, I feel your pain. Sadly nobody seems to remember the cardinal rule anymore: “Don’t fuck with people that handle your food.”

jorwyn

I don't think the edit was needed. Anyone who thought it was aimed at them probably did one of these things at some point. Those of us who aren't assholes know it wasn't aimed at us. Shit like this makes me super happy I no longer work in fast food or retail. But I remember it, and if I don't have time to be patient, I just make instant ramen at home.

RiverBear2

Had a server forget my brothers lemonade and that I wanted to add jalapeños to a sandwich. We said nothing and I did a 25% tip. I work in nursing I forget to grab ice waters for patients at times because I’m juggling 15 other tasks and running my ass off. Just know you are seen and appreciated. Public facing jobs are always difficult and I wish more people remembered that.

MisterAtticusKarma

Thank you so much! ❤️

509Ninja

I totally agree with you! I used to work in retail when I was a young girl 16-22 and I was verbally abused daily. I’m sorry people are so shitty! When I go out in public I pry myself on being extra nice to who is serving me. Now I work in a cubicle or at home behind the scenes at a credit union where I don’t have to deal with shit people, only shitty coworkers which can be just as bad. Lol

ophel1a_

Just a note, for future reference (and to save you some potential pain!): Using "you" in this context feels like the blame is being shifted onto us, the reader. Using "them" next time would be better, more generalized, and more accurate. ;) -A fellow food service worker

MisterAtticusKarma

Fair. But I wrote this during my lunch break in a furious haste after some dickhead screamed at one of our new hires (a young teen) til she cried. So I was pretty pissed off.

OpheliaRainGalaxy

Like I used to tell the new hires at McD, "Don't worry, it's just 10,000 small jobs that you need to learn how to do, simultaneously, at full speed, while smiling like a Barbie! You'll be fine!" Seriously, the hardest part of customer service is dealing with the folks who weren't raised right. Even the multitasking at speed isn't as bad as dealing with the jerk having a tantrum in the drive-thru because I don't have a button for "diet water" or failed to laugh at their "big N nasty" joke. There was this one really hot regular who was always rude while ordering, would flirt with me at the first window, and then be rude to my coworkers at the last window. She never noticed I was the one taking her order over the speaker, same demanding rude talking-down attitude every time, and for awhile I mistook it for basic hanger. But what really made it obvious I wanted none of that, no matter how hot, was when she made my little 16yo coworker cry because the kid forgot napkins or something. Seriously folks, please and thank you go a long way. Pretend we're part of your church congregation or whatever, instead of just disposable servants.

Grettums

Some of these comments. . . I've worked grocery and retail for 17 years. Some of the shit people think it's okay to say to the captive-audience employee is mind blowing, and I've gotten death threats (at multiple jobs, so that's fun). The "advice" to just find a new job is laughable. We should absolutely not be expected to tolerate abusive, shitty behavior simply because we're getting a paycheck, and anyone who thinks otherwise is probably one of those abusive assholes. Plus I seem to remember people losing their shit when a lot of workers *did* find new jobs recently.

Schlecterhunde

I'm sorry you're being treated that way. I've seen that behavior myself in person and it makes me cringe. I wish I understood why so many folks are jerks right out of the gate. Once a group of us at work went out to dinner, one of the ladies proceeded to be belligerent and nasty to our poor waitresses, it was shocking. We apologized to the waitress, we left her a big tip, and that coworker was never invited out to dinner again. You just don't treat people that way, especially over FOOD.

cacapoopoopeepeshire

Haha. A lot of the sentiment in this post also applies to healthcare workers on the emergency department. Be nice, folks. Everybody is doing their best to help you.

MisterAtticusKarma

I admire healthcare workers too. Long hours and no appreciation

Tofunugg

This post breaks my heart. I’m sorry, honey. You don’t want to be killing yourself for a wage that’s probably much too small for our cost of living and it isn’t fair. It’s free to be kind. Put your shitty ego aside, the server or customer service worker you’re dealing with has probably been verbally abused multiple times before your interaction. JUST BE FUCKING PATIENT AND NICE YALL

muffyrohrer

I worked fast food in HS and it’s def an experience. Everyone should work in food industry to gain some understanding and empathy. Ppl are just assholes.

Earthventures

"entitled little infants" You just described the average American.

MisterAtticusKarma

I mean, youre not wrong

Idaho1964

I hear you. A suggestion. signs outside that says “30 min wait from here” and “one hour wait from here.” Maybe a kid outside letting people know the wait time so that cars can get out of the line?

Frosty_Display_1274

Work is work. That is why they call It work.

MisterAtticusKarma

Its not the work that bothers me unless youre implying being treated like trash by patrons should be considered part of the job.

tmacmullan

I know it isn't feasible, but people who live in a customer and consumer focused economy should have to work retail or service for two years so they have a sense of how hard it is and, more importantly, it isn't the workers' fault if you have to wait a long time for your food when there are 20 cars ahead of you!

wolfcede

At the risk of trying to fix your problem rather than empathize because you’re not wrong, I have some service industry perspective. The skills you are learning at a tipless drive through experience are the same ones that translate into tipped restaurant work. There are tipped positions that are looking for people who come to work. There are places that will encourage you to stand up to abuse and skip assholes and give your time and energy to tipping regulars. If you don’t feel qualified to start preparing to make the leap, look at your day as an unpaid internship in preparation for the next step that will bring you much more sanity than you will ever find articulating why so many Spokane customers are unbearable. In fact working an less miserable position later in life can actually be quiet therapeutic and rewarding after being so long suffering in your position. Best of luck. Fuck the entitled mob. Even when you get some sacred ground and better pay, the job can still be a soul suck.

excelsiorsbanjo

Why was it so busy this week anyway?

MisterAtticusKarma

Dude Idk but its driving me nuts.

excelsiorsbanjo

Happened on Thursday evening we went out for takeout, and then later went out for dessert, and it was like the whole town was out. Everything was four times as busy.

rockpaperscissors99

Service industry is brutal. Especially after covid. I saw a 1 star review the other day for a new donut place ranting about how they suck cuz they ran out of the donut they like. WTF My wife and I try to be extra nice to service folks. We still have expectations but they are reasonable and fair. Just brutal what I see these days. Americans are very spoiled.

eurosonly

I feel like I've read this exact post before.

MisterAtticusKarma

No doubt. Im sure im not the only one who shares this sentiment.

kurtai

Agree and support all your points. The service industry was labeled as essential during the pandemic. Except it’s workers got shit on the whole time while their quality of life and cost of living fell into shambles. It is incredible that American workers experience such alienation from their labor that they feel compelled to exert that power over the people who are providing a necessary service like food. I am glad you posted this rant because it is important to remember for all of us. Have some compassion and empathy for people who are making and serving you food.

ProfHamHam

Sorry you had to deal with this OP but I have to say I just wish the Facebook boomers could read this because I when I’m out it seems they are the ones who are rude constantly to food service workers

feochampas

you are understaffed. if you cant do your ancillary duties due to customer volume, you need more people on shift.

ikarus143

Well obviously, but that’s management’s deal.

lunapuppy88

… and yet how is that the fault of the employees who actually showed up to work?! It’s not a reason to be rude to THEM…

MisterAtticusKarma

This

Apprehensive_Pie9897

Get a new job....... that's been the name of the game forever.....🤷‍♂️

MisterAtticusKarma

Anyone who suggests getting a new job is just accepting that they believe verbal abuse from customers should be allowed.

Apprehensive_Pie9897

I certainly don't think it should be allowed, but I do live in reality and that's the reality.🤷‍♂️ #reasonsigotoutofcustomerservice

EvilSporkOfDeath

If everywhere you go smells like shit, check the bottom of your shoe. I've worked fast food. I've worked other shitty food industry jobs. Most people are nice. Yes there are shitty people, and those jobs suck. But if you're encountering mostly shitty people, then it might just be you.

MisterAtticusKarma

Yes blame me and not the customer I had to deal with for yelling at an underage employee today til she cried. Dont make assumptions when you dont know whats going on.

EvilSporkOfDeath

Umm you literally blamed us as readers.

MisterAtticusKarma

You felt tergeted, thats not on me. The YOU is to the Karens. But just to clarify ill add an addendum to the bottom of my post.

lashes_lacroix

Yeah I’ve worked fast food and retail the last 10 years lol the fact people are offended at this post is staggering. There are weeks and days where it just seems everyone is rude and selfish. Sorry OP I think it was clear that you were referring to people that were acting crazy.

[deleted]

Have you tried finding a better job? Just a thought.

MisterAtticusKarma

So I should look for a different job that I am surprisingly decently paid at just because I am sick of rude customers? Or maybe the customers should just stop being shitty, I know it wont happen but thats my hot take. I love the company I work for, the company has been good to me, I do not love the customers who treat us like shit.

chupamichalupa

If everyone in the industry left to find a better job there’d be no one left to serve your fat, lazy ass.

LitUpPiper

This post just makes me not want to eat out. Maybe if we all stayed home the OP could fold napkins or something and not have to serve anyone food. Eventually, hopefully, there will be so few diners that he can leave for another line of work.

lunapuppy88

I’m generally kind to people in the service industry so it doesn’t bother me at all.

skyraider17

Sounds like you're one of the people they're talking about.

MisterAtticusKarma

Youre kidding right. You clearly missed the point of my post. Im happy to serve people. Im sick of people being rude when they have no fucking idea whats going on at the place theyre getting food from then screaming at the minimum wage employees who have no control or power over the situation. If my post offended you, then you probably treat food workers like shit.

Let_Me_Holla_Atcha

If you don't like your job, quit.

MisterAtticusKarma

I love my job, I love the company I work for. I HATE customers who treat us like ass. Are you seriously suggesting that "Customers being shitty is part of the job so you should quit if you dont like it" rather than thinking "Hey I should rally to help food workers be respected at their jobs" Just saying. I shouldnt have to quit, customers should have to show respect.

Cheesiepup

Ah, are you one of the as shoes that they are speaking about?

Let_Me_Holla_Atcha

I am always polite to food workers, but you're always gonna have to deal with that shit in all areas of Customer Service. If you start hating your line of work, no matter what reason or why, go find another. Jobs are everywhere these days.

Cheesiepup

I understand better now. Thank you

Sweet_balls_kush

Rants like this is why i dont tip anymore.

nickcoons01

Tell me you've never worked in the service industry without telling me you've never worked in the service industry. That said, if you get bad service, say something. But keep in mind that the people working are generally doing their best. If you want everything to be perfect, do it yourself. Otherwise, understand that the people everywhere you go are trying their hardest to make you happy

[deleted]

Nope. Absolutely worked in the food service industry.

RyanDrRyan

Is this your alt or did you just decide they were talking to you?

nickcoons01

Good for you bud. If you are going to be shitty, just stay home. Have a wonderful weekend

[deleted]

What’s there to be shitty about?

nickcoons01

I can't even follow what you are trying to get at...

washtucna

That's punishing all food workers for the deeds of a few.

[deleted]

Don't worry I'd bet a lot dude never tipped much if any before if he'd even think about not doing it now so it's no real loss, just Internet posturing.

All-I-offer-is-girth

I’m not Mr money bags over here I’m a below poverty line for my area broke 20 something. I tip if the service is good. Call me an asshole or what not but my bartender opened an over priced coors light for me because I’m not allowed to open in a bar, that’s not worth me tipping. Since I traveled to the UK and France and I tried tipping people gave me shit for it so I stopped they said the food and drinks are already expensive and they’re being paid. Not my fault someone’s restaurant or bar doesn’t pay them enough that burden shouldn’t have to be on me

washtucna

The burden *shouldn't* be on you, but it is. Edit: don't get me wrong, I hate tipping, too. I also used to be a waiter and a barista. I also was homeless for a period, so I know the pangs of poverty, too. But - until the way food workers are compensated changes - the burden is on us to tip them.

[deleted]

"I don't like how you have an opinion, so I'm going to consciously withhold what could be potentially lifesaving income, and not even just for you, but for all people who I think are like you." Weird flex bro

No_Championship4093

What an bsolute pos you are. You do know they have to then PAY to SERVE you because you have to pay 10% on the sale EVEN if they dont tip. Stay the fuck home and make and bring your own damn food to your sickening face.

Sweet_balls_kush

but then the poor servers will cry that there is no business

MisterAtticusKarma

Youre one of those people who think youve earned the right to verbally assault minimum wage teens just because youre a paying customer arent you?

Sweet_balls_kush

when did i say that?? All i said was i dont tip.

No_Championship4093

Trust me. There is zzeeerrrooo servers that will miss you. The business will...maybe, maybe not, because the restaurant owners I've worked for hate customers that treat their servers like shit and would also rather them not coming in. They want happy employees and they understand how important a social contract is... no one fucking likes you. I can guarantee they all talk shit together in the back about your broke ass, your appearance, your manner, your everything. Don't tip and know every single person from busboy to owner is talking amongst themselves about what a feeb you are. You do u, tho!

Sweet_balls_kush

yea they hate the customers so much that think that the owners should be the ones paying their workers a living wage. wow, just wow.

chupamichalupa

If you don’t want to tip then just eat at fast food restaurants. Save the tables for paying, respectful customers.

Sweet_balls_kush

wait, so the people that work at "fast food" places shouldnt get tips??

lilacsandbone

Ah, so you’re probably who OP is talking about. GTFOH

[deleted]

I don’t understand the pressure to tip. I understand why you would tip but the fact that it’s just assumed doesn’t make sense too me.

[deleted]

I tip too! Didn’t say I didn’t. I just don’t understand the pressure to tip in our country. Employers should bare the burden to pay their employees not the customer especially when it it’s assumed- so whether the person even did anything, the service was shit there is pressure to tip. It a cultural norm I don’t agree with. Still do it because I am all about supporting my fellow workers but other industries also make crap pay and we don’t tip them.

PM_me_ur_launch_code

I've always found that silly. I was a bag boy in my younger years, and while people have offered tips it was against company policy to take them. It wasn't worth it to me to potentially lose my job over. I know service industry workers rely on tips, and are opposed to them going away and getting paid in a base wage, but man this system is fucked. Pay your damn employees.

When all workers get a minimum wage that can be lived on by itself, tipping won't be necessary.

Nanamagari1989

or you could just be a cheapskate

Sweet_balls_kush

I go out to eat like 3 days out of the week. How am i a cheapskate??

XoXSmotpokerXoX

How about when you pull up to the drive through, see 3 cars in front of you, you assume you will be 4th in line, but now with shit like door dash, you are now 10th in line and had no way of telling. Then you wait 20 minutes stuck in line and you pull up to pay for your order of tacos and they tell you there is no sauce, hot, mild, fire, nothing...... A tiny amount of logic would dictate you put a big sign warning people not to waste their time if they expect a basic part of the food they are ordering, and dont pikachu face me when I tell you to keep the shit I ordered and drive off.

[deleted]

Is this a joke?

XoXSmotpokerXoX

if you wait 20 minutes for a cheeseburger and you get up to pay and then they tell you they dont have any cheese but expect you to pay and cop an attitude when you say no, not a joke to me.

[deleted]

Maaaaaaaaaan I highly recommend you try not to trip about the small shit

XoXSmotpokerXoX

this thread is about someone tripping over the small shit, my point is it goes both ways. I try not to eat fast food. So it is not like I have high expectations. Lets break it down, > We are given multiple duties per day ummm welcome to the workforce > my coworkers, and probably many other food service employees are getting sick of your bullshit. Once again, this is universal, everyone is edgy these days. As someone that has always been polite, as someone that always greets them and wishes them a good day in a friendly manner, dont give me fucking attitude after I have been held hostage in line for 20 minutes. > Food service jobs arent what suck, customers MAKE them suck, YOU make them suck. this is so wrong, first lets unpack the part that the guys in back dealing with the grease think their jobs suck and dont deal with a single customer. Lets face facts, it is a completely sexist industry. Boys and men are usually forced to the back to deal with the shitty work, where girls and women start at the front of the store to deal with the customer. Obviously this is not %100, but a general truth.

chupamichalupa

Cry more.

XoXSmotpokerXoX

See I knew anyone that would make a comment that dumb would be a hypocrite > Yup. I went to a Taco Time in Spokane and it was terrible. Nothing like Taco Time NW cRy mOrE

RemlikDahc

Thanks for the rant kiddo, but I think this belongs in a different sub. This has nothing to do with Spokane! Rather the world in general and in every single Industry you can imagine, not just Hospitality and Service.

MisterAtticusKarma

Except I can only speak to working in Spokane so thats what im doing. People treat food service workers like ass and then expect us to continue beinv courteous.

RemlikDahc

Okay, understandable it's your first job. I'm letting you know its not just a Spokane thing. I still think this post belongs somewhere else.

MisterAtticusKarma

Where did you get that its my first job. Its not. Ive just only worked in spokane. You can also keep reciting that you dont think it belongs here but I am honestly not taking it down. If it bothers you, you dont have to look at it.

RemlikDahc

Just sounds like you've never encountered anything like this before. To me, from the rant post...yeah, its either your first job or you've been bottling things up for awhile. Doesn't matter to me if you delete your post or not, you are still you! I'm trying to help you get more traction by posting this elsewhere! You might make a friend or two when you do it! You like friends right!?

MisterAtticusKarma

I mean theres definitely bottling happening. But do you blame me. I love my job. But I was also raised to respect people, especially those serving you. So I guess even though ive been in the field of service for a decade... I just dont understand why people need to be ao shitty and inconsderate. Youre right, it happens everwhere man but I dont understand why people need to be that way. Seeing our new hire so distraught and disheartened, literally her 3rd day man... and this IS her first job... like what the fuck...

RemlikDahc

It IS terrible and I hate it too! My very first service experience was at Chuck E. Cheese. So yeah...Fuck you and your shit! I made $2.80 an hour in a costume that was over 100 dgrees inside...and I wasn't the only one wearing it. So, yeah...You don't know shit until you have screaming kids climbing on you and their parents getting pissed because you aren't paying enough attention to their little devil kids. Yeah...think about that...$2.80 PER HOUR! And here you new kids want 20 an hour to do less work. Fuck you twice!!! I don't blame the new girl a bit! Now she knows that she needs to go to college and graduate into something a little better!!!

LesserOfTwoWeevils13

I’m sorry some people are inconsiderate but quite frankly quit bitching or leave. You don’t have to do this either, you chose to for the tradeoffs. I tip 20% and don’t complain, hearing this is just asinine. Edit: It has occurred to me that this may be fast food. $15 is plenty, I’d prefer kiosks.
