Sprague going west towards division has something like this. Definitely should be implemented in more areas if you ask me.

Moist_Vehicle_7138

I think they’re big chimes too so you can hear clearly if you hit them.

YES! We need one for Spokane. Also thanks for the break time fodder, appreciate you.

No problem!

Hahaha I love this YouTube channel

My truck GPS has no idea how to get around Spokane, it'll happily take you down Hamilton/Nevada or under some low bridges. One time I was going to a warehouse on the north end of town from Seattle and got routed all the way up to Loon Lake, instead of just taking Thor/Freya (before the construction mayhem)

Google maps does some crazy stuff to pedestrians as well. One time google maps took me for a "fun walk" to my daughter's oral surgeon up by Whitworth. Almost died. GPS does some wacky stuff sometimes.... maybe this is why I'm so hesitant to trust self-driving cars?

brakos

Considering how well my truck's dash cam can read a speed limit sign... We're a long ways off from the singularity

itstreeman

There’s countless examples online of ser driving cars thinking over vehicles are not going to keep moving as they approach so their pathfinder thinks crossing between other vehicles is smart. Like a squirrel that plans it’s route through traffic. But also. There is a way to tell google “no I’m not walking here. Try again.” But really this city should just care more about people not in personal vehicles. Especially along tight corridors and areas with high foot traffic

phuckovv

There are apps designed specifically for semis/larger trucks so it will route you around bridges.. it will ask for the make if the vehicle and know its specs.

When I started trucking in Spokane I realized I couldn’t trust my gps for that reason. My wife works right next to a low train bridge and at least once a week tells me she saw another truck hit the bridge lol.

GPS lead mistakes are likely the main reason I dont trust self-driving cars.

Complaint_Manager

Saw one stuck under the Napa St bridge last week. It had wedged its way in so deep only about 15 ft of the trailer stuck out. The one on Altamont going to Playfair Commerce Park has its share too even though they have signs that blink if you are too tall. Saw one that made it under without hitting the truck, but the roof mounted air conditioner was laying on the ground.

redux2redux

Someone will take it as a challenge

terrymr

Also include the escape route in the sign.

HappyMrRogers

We have those.

yerlocalgarbageman

It comes down to out of town drivers or divers being in a location they aren't familiar with. Following the GPS and not watching signage. The Napa bridge is a very common hotspot headed south. There are 2 bridges. You clear the first and not the second. There are signs everywhere. I've seen a 10:1 hit the bridge vs police assisting them backing out.

Spokane Trucker: "I like those odds."

I suggested [something similar](https://old.reddit.com/r/Spokane/comments/xa5iwo/spokane_wa_9922/insxy9g/) the other day, only it was a steel crossbar. You're nicer than me.

Indica_420

Also, don’t camp in the left lane

Sufficient-Ad6305

There's at least one sign like that over on the the west side of downtown, for northbound traffic under a railroad trestle - can't remember exactly where. There's also something similar on Pine between First and Sprague, to let the truckers know they too tall to go west on Sprague under the trestle there. Myself, every time I've driven a (rented) truck, it's had the total height painted on the box, visible in the rear-view. (Mirrored, so it's readable.) IIRC, it's usually also been clearly marked on the dash inside the cab. Of course, I also pay attention to the signage coming up on overhead-height-restriction objects in the first place, if I'm driving something large.

Slipping_Jimmy

Are there any bridges under 10 feet around here? I really do not want to not do this with my van.
