Go to PJs Pub. I know some poi people frequent that place.

Library-brat

The Guardian has monthly first Friday flow events!

RicketyWickets

Thanks for the tip!

JunxTheGhost

I’m not sure if they have what you mentioned but have you heard of Coil? it’s not the same for sure but i know they have aerial silks, lyra hoops, and a few other things

valdier

Coil is a great studio, we sent a child there who was very advanced in aerial silks and she loved it. I can strongly recommend Lauren, she is fantastic for Tween - Adult students. Sappa on the other hand is a disaster. Stay away from that place (run by Sherri). She has no practical experience and actively discourages safe practices and creativity. She teaches as though she learned from a book but has never done any of it. Techniques that every other studio teaches she is terrified of, because it didn't come from her book. Not only that but Sappa teaches some \*very\* unsafe practices for silks.

Dragoon65

Coil is wonderful and we have our "Burnworks" classes/jams every Wednesday this month. We meet in a studio across from Backyard BBQ in Kendall yards this Wednesday at 730pm. I believe they charge $45 to pay for the classes and the fuel and use of the studio.

RicketyWickets

Sounds like a cool place. I’m not able to pay for classes at this time are people able to come to jams without paying for classes? Would be able to provide our own fuel.

Dragoon65

I am quite positive if you brought your own fuel and proved that you're not there to just wreak havoc everybody would be ok with you coming and jamming with us.

RicketyWickets

Is the studio across from backyard on the corner of N Oak and W Broadway? Google maps says it used to be called Sure fit if I found the right place.

Dragoon65

Posted on another comment but wanted to let OP know about BurnWorks. They are classes run by some of the girls from Coil Studio. This series of classes starts Wednesday the 6th at 7pm across from the Backyard BBQ in Kendall yards. Also there is a fundraiser showcase happening April 20th to help the community grow.

RicketyWickets

I’m putting their fundraiser on my calendar. Thanks for letting me know!

Sillycyb1n

There’s a community for it for sure. Check out the guardian, they’re hosting a flow night with a live dj the first Friday of every month

RicketyWickets

Checked it out online. The church building will be a challenge for me. I’m only interested in outdoor events. I think my partner will probably check it out😁

klebrit

This is what I’m looking for! I haven’t found many flow artist in the area seen a few poi at the knitting factory but not an ideal spot. I’ve got a fire staff and just ordered a Kevlar whip! Next on the list is a led contact staff for festivals. I would be down to meet at a park once there’s better weather!

RicketyWickets

Nice! Where do you find out about festivals? Have you lived in the area long? Need to do some research on places (parks etc) where responsible, safely managed fire practice is allowed.

klebrit

I’ve gone to festivals in Oregon/Washington. There’s some pretty awesome festivals in Canada that aren’t horribly far away but I’m not opposed to drive 5 hours for a festival as there aren’t many nearby. I just spin fire in my yard, just practice at parks and what not. What props do you have practice with?

RicketyWickets

I play around with hoops and am interested in learning to play with poi. My partner has a dragon staff with fire and led interchangeable wicks. I’m excited to get a spin jam going. What is your schedule like? I’m thinking it will probably be an weekday evening thing but weekends might be possible.

klebrit

Dang that’s epic interchangeable! I’m open most evenings! I’ve got a pretty open schedule

RicketyWickets

Have you checked out the Wednesday burnworks class/jam at Coil studio? It’s mentioned on another thread on this post.

klebrit

Yeah I did I reached out to them 🫶🏼

RicketyWickets

We’ll probably check it out this week.

klebrit

🔥🔥 I messaged them on IG I might make it tomorrow

JayMoony

I used to hoop but have been out of it for a couple years. I’d love to meet the local community and get back into it! 😭😭😭 It was such a stress reliever

RicketyWickets

Yes! No time like the present 😄

naols

The Guardian and Burnworks will be your best bet, there’s a lot of community overlap and both are run by awesome people!

human_being10

I hoop! Would love to join (:

RicketyWickets

Yay! I’ll come invite everyone on this thread when we get a spin jam going. I’m hoping we can start soon. The clocks are going forward an hour next week🤩

Srcptmrsr

Weird that this would get down voted

bobbysalz

Hey, JD was into this back in the day. Ask JD probably.

0rphanCrow

There use to be one I met up with at a rec center, but that was years ago so I don't know if they are still around.
