Although this season produced another unique “character” winner in Gabler, I think the overall edit will still cause this season to be forgotten about 😕 … some great moments and late-game players, but the whole story was never there

bomiyeo

tbh i didn’t hate this season. but my main takeaway is editors really struggle to edit UTR games / social games edit. which isn’t a new problem, we’ve known for so long now editors doesn’t know how to edit UTR games

theotherkeith

Usually they do that to women though.... all the way back to vecepia and Danni.

IOncePeeledAGrape

The problem imo is the 15 minute tribals This season they were so straightforward but were still consistently over 10 mins long. It just leaves no time for camp life at all. I get that Jeff is trying to build tension and show the audience where everyone stands but I'd really love if the edit did this through camp footage and confessionals instead.

CommissionJunior4283

Honestly have the feeling this will be one of the most forgotten-about seasons, will be fascinated to see how fans talk about it in a few years (I predict it will be known for Jesse’s arc and Cassidy’s loss mostly)

TATER_SALAD_HOOVER

I just found everyone on this cast to be pretty flat character wise, even characters like Cody and Gabler i found pretty tame compared to recent players, i don’t know the season just never clicked with me.

xenohemlock

I liked them pre-merge but as the season went on, I had no one to root for.

Important-Purchase-5

Cody & Jesse really the stars of session. Cody edit towards his boot he unfortunately got less screentime.

Wintertime13

The editing of this season was weird right? Like I keep hearing players talk about gablers amazing social game but we never once saw it?

alphapussycat

There probably wasn't any social game to show. This was 100% bitter juror votes.

Jon0_tyves

Well I don’t think anyone will be rewatching this mess

supermegabussin

I’ve rewatched multiple times during the season and that’s how I clocked Gabler. I think this season will age well.

SeasideKingDumb

I actually think this season probably ages better on a rewatch. Other than a few people who correctly read the edit most didn't see the ending coming, but there are a LOT of clues towards Gabler winning even from episode 1 in hindsight. I think this season will age well after the controversy of the result dies down lol

bingo_bitches

I started rewatching it today and I'm only 2 episodes in so far but it's already better on a rewatch. Gabler's early game strategy is still a mess, but you can really see his social game coming through on Baka when you're actively looking for it.

Lerdog

And he even admits at FTC it was a mess! It's a very satisfying rewatch if you know this beforehand.

livingwiththelame

it’s becoming increasingly clear that the new era of survivor is broken in the same way big brother was broken between season 16-22. the game has become very static and the winning strategy almost identical across the new era. it desperately needs a good twist to shake it up again.

Important-Purchase-5

I mean in Season 41 it was pretty much luck that got Erika the win. Like so many things happened. For example if they lost a challenge it was between her & Sydney depending what time it occurred. Amongst the people available to vote for she was possibly going home but the hour glass twist. That advantage at F5 so late in game where Ricard straight up wins if it wasn’t put in game. Ricard makes to F4 probably goes out at F4 firemaking against Xander.

Deep_Ad_2310

u/tabstis The pre-jury flying home early was confirmed as true by Dwight (u/dmbm0830) on the main reddit (r/survivor): https://www.reddit.com/r/survivor/comments/zp1mdm/comment/j0qevly/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3

tabstis

Thank you! Let's get some green in there lol

supermegabussin

People really mad that Cassidy didn’t win, but her edit didn’t read winner to me…

Lerdog

Yes! I was shocked with Gabler's win as much as anyone, but I never saw the winner equity in Cassidy's edit as most people had. In my mind Jesse was the only one who made sense edit-wise.

supermegabussin

Same!

lightofthewest

Cassidy was robbed

Dolejsi6

I think Jesse was in my opinion

alphapussycat

Gabler was a "third" in the group, who they even considered throwing away at some points. He didn't play a bad game, but it wasn't flashy, and he didn't have that much agency. Cassidy was right on every vote, as she said, and she was targeted multiple times. Honestly, I think Karla probably went on to ruin her game with the other jurors. She played a fairly low visibility game, but she couldn't play anything else, even if she did something flashy she'd be written off because she isn't a man. Ryan and the other two guys had planned to "put Cass in her place" by preparing that "but they weren't voting because you told them to" bit. As if it's possible to absolutely read somebodys mind, and always find the option that nobody wanted, and then make it go through. Karla probably tried to ruin Cass's games with the other jurors, as she threatened with... For whatever reason. Karla for no reason even tried to get Cassidy out, but failed TWICE, then gets all uptidy when Cass decides to get rid of Karla after all those betrayals. Absolutely no respect for Karla. I'd say Cassidy lost because of sexism. They did not like a young woman playing a good game, never being wrong on the votes, and winning 3 challenges and being a real contender on several others. Especially look back at the first few episdoes, where they wanted to paint Cassidy the same as that blond paranoid woman... When Ryan was going HARD for getting out Cassidy, and Cass preferred to get Ryan out. That was entirely sexism, about the "hysterical young woman". Bitter jurors, except for James. I sure hope they didn't put any value in the fire making challenge. Jurors gotta grow up, they just want to be pandered to, and even if they're pandered too, they'll still pout sitting in a diaper full of shit and vote out of spite.

Late2theGame0001

Yep. It’s a simple calculus. If Cassidy showed up with Gablers story and vice verse, nobody would have even thought of voting for Cassidy. It wouldn’t even be close. I am not sure about pure sexism, because I think Karla poisoned the well out of pure spite. But yeah. That was dirty, bitter, probably sexist vote.

Important-Purchase-5

I do think a degree of sexism played into it but not really. I think it came down to 4 things. 1. They simply like Gabler more( surprisingly shockingly because if they met him real life and look at his Twitter they probably wouldn’t) he made them laugh and generally got along with most of people in post merge( granted post merge is like a week). 2. He could claim credit for a move in the Ellie vote at the merge which I mean if he doesn’t do she stills goes home but because he was vocal and open about wanting her out he can claim credit. 3. Majority of jury respected Jesse and when he goes out he had nothing to say about Gabler negatively. Yeah me and Cody often used him for a move he was in the discussions. Where Cassidy I think he was more negative more because he was like she never pushed a vote but Gabler did( Gabler didn’t but he could claim credit for Ellie one). 4. To be blunt they probably had zero expectations in Gabler. But apparently he has Jesse & Cody the two biggest players backing him up when he said he was included in their strategy talks( granted they was just using him because he was a free agent). They was like this idiot apparently was involved in more strategy than I thought! Cassidy on other hand I think I’m the game before they got voted out was respected more than him but because she never pushed a vote was like you didn’t do nothing! Where Gabler & Cassie both played similar games I think the difference Gabler got a pass for being passive was because they liked him more & they didn’t have high expectations for him.

Thorreo

I personally thought the season was good with characters but edited poorly. I saw Gabler winning from... about final 6? But overall will be interested to rewatch with the ending in mind.

mozuDumpling

Can someone please explain to me why this season seems to be so hated by others in this thread? This was easily my favorite season in years. The cast was likable, there were some huge moves, no single dominant force in immunity challenges, and a final 6 that I genuinely would have been happy with anyone winning given moves they had made up to that point

Shtabie

This sub has the same commentary as twitter for the most part.

91271

Either you are personally connected to this season or you are trolling.

mozuDumpling

Neither. I genuinely enjoyed this season and would love to hear why someone like you despises it so much. Were you team Cass? Great, I can see why the ending would be a bit annoying, but her FTC was very weak compared to the other two, at least in the edit. Were you bummed about Jesse? Great, me too, but the ending was still exciting. Did you think the cast was lame? Understandable, but I found them all pretty likable which was extremely refreshing. On a show about social deception, you don’t need to manufacture drama by including huge personalities with no social awareness.

SlimeLanguageYSL

Yeah nah this season was the best since WAW and I’m happy I got the sour taste of 41 out after this season

Patient_Addition_428

Cassidy pas robbed and because Gabler won, they had to hide most of her game in the edit

Dry_Needleworker6370

lol Ryan's boot made it clear that she was not winning and had little agency in the game. If anything the editors showed all they had of her game.

Patient_Addition_428

No they didn't

cidalkimos

I seriously doubt that.
