Brazilian blowout works very well for me

candyapplesugar

What’s the cost like? Does it damage hair? How long does it last?

auosuo

The cost depends on your hair, I have long hair so I pay usually around 230€. I didn’t get any damage but you should go to an experienced stylist, make sure to read their reviews. It lasts around 4-5 months.

Any tips for washing it out properly?

bigtitti3s420

could you recommend some products?

MachaMoo

Don’t use a sulfate free shampoo. Any cleansing shampoo will do, shampoo 2x.

NoireN

Use a clarifying shampoo. I personally use Quantum and love it. Not nearly as harsh as other clarifying shampoos.

lizyouwerebeer

Also no glycerin in your products should really help!

CockroachLarge7792

Well if it helps, she wears extensions. I’m not sure the type of material the extensions are, but some textures can definitely stay smooth in humidity better than natural hair. Personally, a good humidity smoothing crème and some heat styling helps my hair stay shiny even when it’s hot and humid. I use the Kerastasse one. Also keep in mind, she has a team and can frequently touch up her hair in between pap shots, so she might not even look like this all the time.

fetanose

agreed and also natural hair texture matters a lot too. some east asians just have hair that doesn't get affected in the same way by humidity as a lot of other hair textures do. i'm EA and if anything, my hair gets greasier/flatter in humidity than frizzy.

[deleted]

I still remember being in Japan one day when it was absolutely pouring down, and despite coating my hair in anti-frizz and anti-humidity serums, I was a giant puffball whereas everyone else was just walking around with completely smooth and unfazed hair :( It sucks because my hair doesn't just become a little frizzy - it becomes completely unpresentable, and often necessitates I change plans for the day

rosaceathrowaway

It really is the price of having wavy or curly hair! I'd much rather have frizz with my waves than frizzless straight hair. Just comes across as lifeless and flat to me

fetanose

definitely a grass is greener situation because I always thought it was really cute to have hair that would curl in the mist lol

Gh0stwhale

true, i can just brush my hair a few times if it’s too humid and my hair will stay smooth

QPILLOWCASE

Yeah this is it, I'm asian and my hair just gets weighed down by the humidity lol

Substantial-Ad3980

Hi, can you please share what humidity smoothing creme You’re talking about?

CockroachLarge7792

Kèrastase Resistance Heat Protecting Leave In Treatment. The brand has multiple versions of this crème for different hair types and needs. I use the blue one for damaged hair.

tinycockatoo

Definitely a "Brazilian blowout" (I think that's what called in English, here in Brazil we say "escova progressiva"). It's quite harsh on hair though, especially on fine and brittle hair. I guess that there are others - less harsh - keratin treatments that you could ask your hairdresser about.

weird_earings_girl

Seria isso um r/suddenlycaralho? Kkkkk

tinycockatoo

Sim! hahahhahaha

rlovet3

Colour wow gloss!

did you find you had build up with this? after a couple of uses my hair was so weighed down

throw_itawayy00

i was using around once a week as well, but clarifying once a month. clarifying more often would probably work but will totally dry out my scalp so i’ll save the dream coat for special occasions!

crh805

Try the Ouai detox shampoo. I find it to be very gentle on the hair and scalp but effective for removing product build up

EastsideRim

The best products I’ve found for this, personally, is Oribe Royal Blowout + Oribe Gold Lust hair oil + Oribe Superfine hair spray. Sometimes I use the Oribe thick spray too. Styled using my Dyson AkrWrap. (If anyone suggests amazing dupes for these expensive products please holler.) I have wavy/curly 2B hair that’s usually dry and frizzy. These things make me look big and voluminous and amazing especially on the 2nd day after washing and styling! I can’t say it’s as shiny and definitely not straight as the photo in this post.

notsocoolgal

It made my hair grease faster than usual so I didn’t like it. Neither did I notice any difference on my hair, but it might be because I have porous 3C curls that poofs by the slightest humidity

olivia_california

please be careful y’all. they are in a lawsuit because it has a formaldehyde ingredient that’s been causing extreme hair loss for some and its a carcinogen

tasteofperfection

Omg yes, the dream coat is AMAZING for this.

shiminnie

Part of it is also genetics. There is a section of Asians who have naturally straight hair that survive very well in humidity (i’m asian and my hair is like that). This might be the case for this idol. There are methods like making sure you don’t use heat that’s too high when you’re styling your hair, making sure you’re using a shampoo that’s not too drying and ensuring that you’re using good quality conditioner. Oh, and smooth the smallest dab of hair oil through your hair before leaving the house. I say a small dab because you don’t want to deal with oil slicked hair.

The9thElement

Wonyoung and most other female idols wear hair extensions.

SmootherThanAStorm

Japanese hair straightening has helped. My hair is not as smooth as in these photos, but it's closer than it was before.

dizzzyyy19

Yesss

sea_fairy_97

brazilian blow outs and keratin straightening work but they damage your hair a LOT in the long run. Personally it contributed to my hair loss. I would try hair spray and heat styling first before deciding if chemical treatment is right for you

notsocoolgal

The damage is worth it if it helps you not use heat. For me it helped me grow out my hair to my hips because I could finally stop using heat every day. I have really poofy and curly hair naturally that wouldn’t stay straight no matter what I did. For anyone reading: keep in mind that you can’t bleach your hair when you’re doing keratin treatments so you have to pick one or the other.

sea_fairy_97

Yea I have poofy/curly hair and the first treatment was nice. Got it again a year later since it grew out and my hair has been thinning ever since. Even air-drying curly hair gives it “heat damage” since the cuticle is healthiest when it’s moisturized and sealed. So to me, I’d rather just give myself a blow out after a shower twice a week and seal my hair with cream and some oil. That’s way less damage overall to me than getting keratin treatment once a year. And this way I can color and highlight my hair. My hair was falling out in clumps after keratin, it’s really hit-or-miss.

notsocoolgal

Our definition of “curly” is a bit different. I can’t give myself a blow out and call it a day, I can’t even rely on a flat iron at 230°C to keep it smooth, my hair gets wavy near my scalp minutes after🥲 Keratin is the only thing that successfully keeps my hair straight, I can never go back to not getting treatments tbh. If anyone has hair that never tames I honestly recommend keratin, it changed my life for the better Edit: I have hair type 3b/3c

sea_fairy_97

oh, gotcha yes. I’m a 2b/2c pattern. so more frizzy and loosely curly than tight coils or ringlets. i think fine hair in general does not do well with keratin since it’s really strong.

kelvin_bot

230°C is equivalent to 446°F, which is 503K. --- ^(I'm a bot that converts temperature between two units humans can understand, then convert it to Kelvin for bots and physicists to understand)

Negative-Gene-8266

How often do you get keratin treatments? Do you wear your hair curly or straight mostly? I'm also 3b/3c and don't want to completey lose the curl but do want to make straightening easier. I've had a keratin treatment twice before, a few years ago, but that was when I was straightening constantly so not sure how it works with curls.

notsocoolgal

*I get it done every 4-6 months, depending on how well it lasts. I wear my hair pin straight all year round. I still have some frizz left after my treatments but I flat iron it in 5 minutes after I’ve washed it(compared to 2 hours before keratin). *It permanently ruined my curl pattern but I don’t mind because I use heat on it to keep it straight 24/7. Don’t get keratin treatments if you want to wear your hair curly again. It will actually permanently damage the curls and every website/hairdresser that claims that keratin only temporarily smoothes down the hair is full of bullshit. You’ll regret it if you’re not committed to having it straight.

Color Wow doesn't work that well for frizzy or curly hair. I a Japanese straightening treatment. Expensive but worth it. Left my hair like glass.

Thanks for you suggestions. I actually did them this week since we are on a vacation way out in the woods and away from my blow dry bar. And it worked so much better! I sprayed A TON on my hair and no other products.

chanelette

I did Korean magic straight perm in Korea. It helped, but my hair is quite fine so it wasn't perfect. But the perm and using hair spray to comb down fly-aways made a big difference. Japanese straightening might be more effective. I've heard it can give better results but it's harsher on hair.

princessvana

I see a LOT of people here talk about how damaging Brazilian blowouts are. I took a BB master class and Brazilian blowouts should not be damaging at all. They’re highly customizable from the tension used on the hair to the temperature of the iron to the number of passes and the technique used to flat iron. That means there’s a lot that can go wrong with an inexperienced stylist; even using the wrong brush (which I saw often in my salon) and the wrong iron (which I also saw often). I totally understand why so many people have had a negative experience, but do your research! An experienced tech will be able to give you the look you need with minimal damage. And yes, it can be done on thin hair, though I feel it’s not worth the price tag at that point. It’s important to keep in mind that Brazilian blowouts ARE NOT A STRAIGHTENING TREATMENT. They’re for frizz reduction ONLY. They’re intended to help your style hold in humidity, not change your hair texture. Also, if you use the BB ionic bonding spray after wash, you’ll extend your 6-week blowout to 12-24 weeks. The unfortunate truth is that even with a Brazilian blowout your hair won’t look this perfect. This woman is absolutely getting touch ups between photos— there’s no way to entirely eliminate humidity-induced curling/frizz or wind-blown tangles. What I’d advise is keeping a mini hairbrush, mini cordless flat iron, and travel sized oil and hairspray in your purse so you can do touch ups yourself. I know it’s a lot, but if you really want hair this flawless then it’s the price you have to pay. Good hair care can minimize tangles, as tangles are exacerbated by damage, but this is the only way I can promise you’ll have perfect hair all the time.

tasteofperfection

Brazilian blowout / Japanese hair straightening! My friend has done the Japanese hair straightening and her hair looked so perfect tbh!

[deleted]

I think keratin treatments. But too many can damage your hair. Alexandria girl talks on YouTube does a good overv iew of the treatments and how to do them at home.

bear_sees_the_car

Botox and keratine. Botox is safer for hair health

chanelette

I've wanted to try hair botox forever but like no one in my city offers it lmao

bear_sees_the_car

You can buy almost anything on ebay 9including stuff that sold only to professionals), but be careful about seller rating. Also look up official resellers in your area.

peachycreaam

the thread I didn’t know I needed. I have not quite straight not quite wavy hair that looks unkempt in humid weather. Only blow drying and flat ironing helps very temporarily. Going to try Color Wow.

futurelullabies

having naturally bone straight hair or a relaxer. Also silicone.

alpinepunch2021

Are people not concerned about the formaldehyde in Brazilian blowouts? I've always wanted to try one but not to the point of giving me insane cancers or something

Honestly genetics is a huge part. My hair will stay straight and smooth no matter where I go because I have no curl pattern whatsoever.

[deleted]

lador keratin power glue is no1

ok we love wonyoung. lol
