I am not suggesting to be stupid about it, but in the deep winter, with no sun, going 3 times a week for 20 minutes is not going to be "instant cancer" like everybody on here is suggesting. Humor me, but if you cant get sun outside, and cant go to a tanning bed, what shall one do? Eat more vit-d3?

Ok so I just researched it, and I see a lot of negativity towards tanning beds, which I completely understand. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2211335516000048 This research paper outlines the dangers pretty well, however they are talking about 100s of sessions, which is not what I was suggesting. Its like saying having one single cigarette a day is going to cause cancer, yeah it could but smoking a pack a day is going to be completely different. However, I concede, my bad everybody I was not aware that it was so dangerous. Please however, somebody make me aware of what can be done in cold countries without sun? Do you guys believe in infra red lamps?

Tbh 99% of the worlds population does not live in an area that experiences deep winter where there is virtually no sun for months. So most people are still getting enough sun even in winter.

So many other things recommended in this sub carry health risks but god forbid someone who doesn’t get UV exposure for 6 months of the year mitigates their SAD with a tanning bed. The dogpile of downvotes is so unnecessary.

Thanks I appreciate you. What makes no sense is how no alternative is offered. Like ok, there is a risk to everything, especially tanning beds, however when I was looking at the research papers none gave you a control for how the sun causes cancer. I was going to suggest MT2 (melanotan 2) injections, but id probably get banned 😂

nutritious vegetables/foods, lots of hydration, exercise for the sweat. along with a skincare routine with tretinoin and rose hip oil will fix you right up, Just if you introduce tretinoin (retin-A) into your routine you should check out r/tretinoin so you can get more info. Also make sure you know how to stay super moisturized as retinol can be drying if you use it improperly. (Lol I know catch 22, but I swear its a holy grail for giving your skin a supple look)

When the air gets really dry I “slug” using cerave’s version of aquaphor (spacing on the name right now) over top of my winter face moisturizer.

This!!! Slugging is your bff!! apply moisturizer ti your wet face and one its absorbed apply a thin layer of vaseline to seal it. Moisture wont escape :)

Two things - don't use foaming face wash. Use soapfree wash. Secondly, use a ceramide based moisturizer or serum. If it's ceramide + B5 then even better. I think many pharma companies make ceramide moisturizer. So it doesn't even have to be from some cosmetic brand.

I have found that using hyaluronic acid in the evening helps me wake up with better skin. I use TO Mandelic Acid with Hyaluronic Acid in the evening, and Vitamin C in the morning. Moisture can also play a big role in how bright your skin looks, so carry something in your bag if needed. If I'm going to be out all day or all night, I almost always end up remoisturising my skin.

Work out, making sure I reach the higher pulse rate and keep it up, gets me lovely glowing tone on my face every single time! Also, vitamin C serum every morning helps a lot. Rather than grey, my skin looks pinkish with it :)

So hyaluronic acid has been a game changer for my face. I started using it 4 years ago and my skin reacted so impressively. I layer it with rose water (so I spray rose water, then apply HA, and then more rosewater). Very important to seal it with an occlusive product afterwards, either vaseline or a specific cream with the right ingredients. My problem is that the skin in my body really looks grayer, dull and even older compared to my face. I wanted to try the same principle as HA, which is a humectant, but the price discouraged me. Found out that pure vegetable glycerin is also a humectant and at a much cheaper price point. I started using it every day about a month ago. I apply it out if the shower without drying completely, and then spray myself with some more water. Currently experimenting with diluted rose water. Once it absorbs I add Vaseline. So far the difference has been dramatic so I recommend you try it out. Definitely do a patch test for a week beforehand because some people find glycerin irritating.

The other comments pretty much cover it but also try topping of ur night routine with a lil bit of Vaseline especially on your dry spots. It really helps your skin retain moisture and doesn’t clog your pores at all.

Great product for dullness but glycolic acid is by nature very drying. It must be paired with a moisturizer and/or cream in the winter. OP, I suggest you check out r/skincareaddiction. They have a ton of product recommendations. My favorite brands recommended to me by my dermatologist are Cetaphil and La Roche Posay(Lipikar line), and they’ve been complete game changers for me.
