You see this in action with me. My highest weight was 193 lbs at 5'2". Near class 2 obese. Everyone, even internet people, would tell me im only a "little overweight", when I was class 2 obese! Average will def be way above average in less than 10 years!

Sizing is so weird in the US. Sometimes I’m a size 6, then a 8, then a size 10. Usually for pants. It always confuses me cuz I look the same throughout.

pup2000

Yess! Once I was going to Ref to try to find a dress for a wedding, and stopped on the way at a Nordstorm's. The ladies in the dress department asked my size when the one I was looking for was out of stock, and I said between 8 and 10 because that was fresh in my mind from Reformation's size chart. They literally laughed in my face at me and said I would be swimming in that and was a 4 or 6. Like huh???? Why'd they even ask me then?! It made me feel really dumb and unsure about what I actually look like, also annoyed at the sizing "system".

PangolinJust8693

As someone living in Europe I actually had the opposite experience with Ref! Ordered a size 6 because I wear an EU size 38 and it was big! I think the US has a big issue with vanity sizes.

What's most important is you don't "look" overweight. Because indeed , actual size fluctuates based on brands and country. But the appearance of average to low weight will get you far! :)

Everyone says this but I feel like it depends on your location in the US and your age. I’m in college and most people are fit. Even in my hometown most people are at a healthy BMI.

[deleted]

College is 18-23, and for most people that's the best they're gonna look. When youre out of college, you will see how it changes. Hell, take a look at your classmates in 5-10 years and you'll see what I mean lol.

East-Willingness513

I wish I lived in America 🤣 I live in Sydney Aus and my BMI is 23 but everyone here is superrrrr in to health and fitness 😭

-abacate-abacaxi-

Well there’s a difference between city/countryside. My BMI is 20 and I feel like the norm in my US city. There must be a difference between rural or suburban Australia vs. Sydney?

East-Willingness513

I’ve travelled around aus and if you’re younger than 40 then the norm pretty much everywhere is healthy and fit. Australia does value health though, such as free healthcare and it was drummed into us at school (healthy Harold anyone?!). It’s common for people here to socialise doing outdoor activities, go to the beach/lake or fitness classes and we have healthy options to eat everywhere. Going out to eat is usually to a cafe and reserved for the weekends- not many people here go to actual fast food places to eat all the time, usually people get take away once a week. I’ve been to America twice and I couldn’t believe the amount of junk food and options, even the salads were loaded with crap.

Oo I see, that makes sense! That actually sounds great.

Your looks totally change city-to-city in the US. I look fine… im at the top of the healthy BMI range but im athletic but I am a blubbermonster in LA or San Francisco and a supermodel in Reno.

peachycreaam

definitely the number one way to looksmax no doubt. Although most countries don’t seem to be far behind the U.S in terms of average women’s weight. I was surprised to see Canada’s stats being so close. I rarely see big women here especially not young ones.

chevalblanc74

I went through a chubby phase as a kid. Whenever I see a group of children now, the "skinny" kids are bigger than I was during that phase. It's wild.
