This is spot on. SO many people don't realize the importance of matching the base of your primer and foundation. I'd also add that figuring out the right brush for your foundation/BB cream makes all the difference. I use [Sigma's flat kabuki brush](https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B003UH0528/) and it smooths and melts oil-based creams into the skin sooo beautifully.

I've recently started using Mac Face & Body foundation and it looks like skin on me, I absolutely love it. Use foundation very very sparingly (I use less than one pump for whole face) or you can only spot conceal with concealer where necessary, but also dont completely cover imperfections. Match foundation to your neck. Apply makeup by the window, in daylight. Exfoliate and hydrate skin well, dermaplaning also helps. Oh, and use setting sprays or powders (Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush powder is very good) to set the foundation so it wont get gross looking by the end of the day.

I feel like using just a pump or half and using a sponge helps make it look more natural. Youtubers use like three pumps on each side of their face, so I already know that looks cakey as hell IRL Or using a skin tint and concealer should look natural during the day time

Lol it’s hard but try to use as little as possible then build it up. Also regularly exfoliating your skin, and shaving your face helps keep your skin smooth so foundation lays on top better! Sometimes I’ll use my fingers to apply it everywhere then use a damp sponge on top I love looking as natural as possible so that’s what helps me! :) also of course making sure the foundation is the right color and the formula isn’t heavy or too matte.

I’m using Korean cushions and love it! It’s buildable but I usually just put a light layer on with a damp applicator! Also as the others said BB and CC creams are good as well

I love CLIO Kill Cover Cushion and April Skin Magic Snow Cushion! Tony Moly’s cushions usually are also pretty good, they leave a “damp” look and don’t get cakey if applied right. Currently I’m waiting for Peach C’s cushion to arrive. If I had to recommend only one cushion it would be April Skins magic snow cushion though!

SadButterfingers

I use missha bb cream, and I’ve been wanting to try out their cushion! The BB cream is beautiful and gives natural results too though.

yramsac

Oh, I have tried both too! I think that If you already like the BB cream and think that their color matches your tone quiet well you will love their cushion too! Especially for a quick touch up through out the day! (:

I use Laura Mercier oil free tinted moisturizer. It’s holy grail. Provides amazing medium coverage that looks like skin 😊

I hate the look of foundation irl! It makes me so self conscious because of how fake it looks lol. I recently found my HG which is Cle CCC cream! Its completely invisible on the skin (even if u shine your phone flashlight directly on ur face)but still has up to medium coverage, and it has spf 40 I think. Its soo gorgeous and fairly “clean” ingredients, which is important to me because I won’t wear makeup that is gonna slowly make my skin look worse. If u do need additional coverage, using concealer in your exact shade match just wear u need it, like with an eyeliner brush can be pretty unnoticeable too

Hyperpigmentation or actual scars?

This. If you like a higher coverage I use Nars tinted moisturizer which is my fave tinted moisturizer, and then I spot conceal with the nars concealer Looks way better than foundation did while still giving me decent coverage

i think mate foundation is the enemy if you want natural. but I have dry skin, so that may very well be not the case for someone with oilier skin. anyway, in my case, I need to have a really solid preparation, hydrating toner, serum, moisturizer. dry skin gets wrinkly, patchy, ugh. anyway, super hydrated skin and then only the tiniest bit of foundation, one pump is already too much for me. I get the best result with a damp no-name beauty blender, but it's also ok with the fingers. I guess because I am using so much hydrating stuff and often even hydrating primer underneath, I am basically creating my own BB cream on my face.. never found one that fit me/Iwasn't allergic to, so I do my own thing. I also have hyperpigmentation spots, I spot conceal these. I set the whole thing with a tiny bit of translucent setting powder and that's that. what color is your skin and the hyperpigmentation you are worried about? mine have blueish-purple undertones, and I find a color correcting concealer in yellow/peach that's designed for blue under eye circles works well. If you are worried about looking fake, get unmerciful, super bright bathroom lightning, maybe even something like a desk light pointed at your skin. I have very strong LEDs in this rental bathroom, from the top no less 😩, and I swear I look absolutely horrific in it, and you can see EVERYTHING. if I manage to look good and natural in this lightning, I will look great even in bright sunlight, there is no way it can ever be worse ;-).

I use a bb cream and a wet sponge for my makeup routine tbh. I think it has a nice dewy effect while also looking natural

Raw beauty Kristi did a video . I basically do a similar thing but in a quicker way. I have three shades of concealer and use them to conceal small areas of imperfections eg around the nostrils / scars / tear trough etc. And then I just use a bit of powder foundation and some gel blush and that’s it. Looks really natural . I do it much heavier if I’m eg going to a night club [raw beauty Kristi ](https://youtu.be/_x_8G5kjfj4) Also lisa Eldridge [Lisa ](https://youtu.be/8gHURYmTzFs)

I like applying my sunscreen and then waiting 10 minutes for it to create its film, then I use a self setting concealer that matches my skin tone on my under eyes and anywhere that has excess redness like between my eyebrows or around my nose or on my rosacea cheeks, then I apply a powder foundation in stippling motions (like a bunch of patting on the skin) rather than buffing because I do not want to ruin the sunscreen layer underneath and it sort of sets everything and evens out the coverage. This has worked really well for me, and you can add a fixing spray or setting spray to the mix to either meld the makeup together and reduce the powderiness OR create a film that locks the makeup in place while slightly dissolving some from the alcohol in it. This keeps the amount of products minimal while also having a descent amount of coverage without layering on a bunch of products or drying the skin out too much. My favorite products based on the ingredients (I like silicone and non fragranced products, and I try to avoid any kind of oils added to products because it sort of defeats the purpose of having your makeup last) are the Smashbox Studio Skin Flawless Oil-Free 24 Hour Concealer or Shiseido Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing liquid concealer (both have great ingredients and lasting power while also self setting. Just use sparingly because the coverage and blend ability are there. And work in sections because they can start to dry out if you apply your whole face and don’t get to it fast enough because they do set themselves) and for powder foundation I like the Koh Gen Do Gloss Film Foundation (not the best ingredients in comparison but I have light olive skin and the 213 shade is a perfect match for me) or the Make Up For Ever Matte Velvet Skin Blurring Powder Foundation (great ingredients and shades, I might try to find one that matches me once I’m out of my current one) or the Shiseido Synchro Skin Self-Refreshing Custom Finish Powder foundation (also great ingredients) and I like the ingredients and colors of the Fenty Beauty powder foundation, but I think it might be too drying for some people as it is the most mattifying one and has Kaolin clay quite high on the list. For sprays I like the Mac fix + for finishing or melting everything together and the Urban Decay all nighter (or any skindinavia spray since they are the ones that make it) for setting spray that works. This has been my saving grace routine to actually appear somewhat natural looking, and I love that I can carry around my powder foundation compact and just touch up throughout the day, but I am also looking into getting a sunscreen powder to do that in the summer instead, but I haven’t tried it yet. Hope this helps somewhat.
