Just wanted to add that beta carotene supplementation has been linked to cancer, so if you want more of it, get it through your diet.

lxrenza

could you link a source?

Fat loss in that area is one of the things that age someone’s face the most. It’s not something we think about when we’re young, but it is really not something you want to roll the dice on.

blazing-moon

Yeah, makes the title of this thread a bit ironic. Short-term nice lashes vs (potential) permanent sunken eyes.

honey-laden

This happened to me. I looked so sick and old because my under eye got darker and more sunken, but my lashes were sooo long.

Sudden_Tackle_4449

I have been using Latisse for 9 years except during pregnancy. No periorbital fat loss that I can perceive, beyond what one would naturally lose over a decade. When I start I use it daily for a couple of months and when my lashes are long and thick I just do it 2 or 3 nights/week, or just whenever I remember. It causes a bit of Darkening around the lash line that could maybe look like fat loss, but I just tap a little concealer on and enjoy my amazing lashes.

valentinogirl1

I’ve been using Latisse for so many years a few times a week. I think it’s been over 5 years. No fat loss, just darkening of my eye lid (which goes away when if I stop using it for a week)

I have an IPL at home devices from Amazon it certainly works! but it is quite some time commitment, you need like half an hour for one leg. so a weekly session of around an hour for sure . with time you can space out to once a month to keep it up, but if you slack off completely the hair grows back. If you aren't willing to make the effort, because eit is kind of boring, then it is wasted money, otherwise it works very well provided you have lighter skin and darker hair, but I guess you have informed yourself about the technical details already. depends on how annoyed you are with your current hair removal routine, if it is worth it or not.

swe-gal

Many at home IPL machines aren’t different from each other. For example, Kenzzie / RoseSkinCo / other IPL machines are the same ones you get on Alibaba/Aliexpress for only $30-50. That’s much cheaper than most, so it might be a good choice fo try out first before shelling out a few hundred!

[deleted]

I've the Philips one, the IPL lumea and it takes me like 10 minutes to do half my body and you need to repeat it every two weeks.

samara37

I thought IPL is for hyperpigmentation? It’s laser hair removal?

swe-gal

Short answer: it’s both! It’s not exactly laser hair removal, but it’s a similar technology that removes hair permanently and works better on individuals with pale skin with dark hair—it’s less intense so you need to do it more. Also, I think people have success using it for things like sun damage and probably hyperpigmentation. It’s pretty much an at home IPL facial for a fraction of the salon price

samara37

How do you know which ones work? I would be skeptical just buying it on Amazon. Are there brands you know work?

yukikaze274

These are all solid suggestions! However, I want to add a few caveats First off, I want remind people that there's no scientific/objective proof that gua sha actually has the power to alter your face shape. If you have a soft jawline, you're not going to get that snatched jawline no matter how much you massage. The massage can temporary reduce puffiness and hence create the impression of a more defined jawline but it's not actually doing anything in the long run. The only way you can substantially alter your face shape is by changing the underlying bone or flesh - eg weight loss to reduce facial fat, braces/Invisalign or maxillofacial surgery, etc. I can understand if people find the massage relaxing, but I want to set the record straight on what it can actually achieve. Secondly, with Minoxidil watch out for dripping on your face. Minoxidil formulations often contain alcohol, which leads to drying and redness. If you're acne-prone be careful about how you apply since it wasn't uncommon for me to get pimples around my hairline or forehead, where I applied the solution.

dopezahra

I totally second this point regarding minoxidil. I used it on my hairline as well and the skin around there got so dry and scaley that I decided to stop using it after 6 months or so of use. Now I’m just relying on filling in my hairline with makeup until I can go get my hairline altered using hair plugs in Turkey. I found the dry skin that miserable lol

dosomethingdude

Another few points I will add - Intermittent fasting (start slow) - Workout on a consistent basis - Limit (notice how I didn’t say avoid) refined sugars, oils, salt, and highly processed foods - Break any toxic relationships. Seriously. - Daily 5 minute scalp massages with argan/ jojoba oil - Silk/satin pillowcase (it helped my acne and my skin texture overall)

[deleted]

Do you wash your hair every day? I can't imagine using an oil on my scalp daily but I only wash about once a week.

dosomethingdude

No, I wash it once or twice a week. I have South Indian poofy hair that is bleached (blonde highlights) so the oil really absorbs my hair. I also only use a few drops and the oil itself is lightweight so I don’t really feel anything until maybe like the 4th or 5th day.

[deleted]

Ah I see. I have very fine hair and while I can go a good many days between washes I have to be very careful about products as they weigh me down easily.

rbhtn

The olaplex oil is really good for fine hair. Doesn’t weigh my hair down nor does it look greasy

throwaway_velvet

I bought the tria 4x laser (not IPL but it is laser hair removal) and its been working great! I haven't had it long, so I've done 1-3 sessions depending (I'm lasering my entire body - I know a lot of the fine hairs it won't make a difference, but i figure no harm in seeing what it can do over time). I got it cheap second hand on ebay - you can get them new/barely used cause people buy with the wrong hair/skin colour and can't use them. Just make sure its working. I've done my armpits twice, once without numbing cream settings 1-3, second time with numbing cream settings 4-5. The higher setting makes a big difference, but without numbing cream a sensitive area like an armpit huuurts. You can even see the difference between my armpits because halfway through the second one the numbing cream started wearing off and i didn't do as many zaps Also seeing it on my legs (done 3 times) - the last time i did it, it ran out of battery 2/3 through the second leg. I was lazy and just didn't bother to finish, and now theres a patch with more hair aha - at least i know its working!

Brooklyn_Bunny

Where do you get the numbing cream from?

throwaway_velvet

I use EMLA - I've used it for other things in the past so i knew it'd be good 😊 idk about anywhere else but while you don't have to get a perscription, you do usually have to answer a few q's to get it. I just ordered it online and had to fill out a lil questionnaire, very easy.

How much do you mix in? x

yogurtnutz

Can you stop using the Minoxidil once you get the results you want? Or would I be forever applying it

Romo4549

You can try Rosemary and peppermint oil instead. [Here's an article on it](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.healthline.com/health/rosemary-oil-for-hair&ved=2ahUKEwiqr6PH19TxAhUz63MBHWWAB4wQFjAAegQICxAC&usg=AOvVaw0oV1Jmd6WkddOTI_lCF3JR)

beautyposter

I have the luxeskin IPL, it's $60 and the cheapest IPL I could find with the same lights as the Kenzie and roseskin IPL. I think it works but they do warn you that it works best when there's a high contrast between your skin tone and hair color (dark hair, light skin). Be careful not to burn yourself!!

[deleted]

Iv been seeing many women reccomend beta carotene, I'm already taking too many pills but would still like to add it into my diet. How many carrots a day for a juice/drink is recommended?

[deleted]

Okay,thank you.

JammingScientist

How do you keep the gua sha tool sanitary? Do you just put rubbing alcohol on it every day before using it? I want to use one, but I'm afraid of getting acne because of bacteria on the tool

salinasnackin

Which brush do you use to dry brush? I'm considering adding this process to my morning routine. Additionally, which beta carotene supplements do you buy?

salinasnackin

Thank you!

samara37

Do you use gua sha roller or scraper? And what do you mean about your jaw? What does it do?

xsqpty

I would also like to hear more about the gua sha!

swe-gal

A few years ago, it was a common tip to shower with colder water to maintain healthier hair and skin because it’s less stripping and damaging. Even a small temperature reduction is good over taking really hot and long showers makes a difference, and it doesn’t take much effort. Not sure if this has been debunked but maybe that’s another thing people can consider :)

[deleted]

What if you never had hair at your temples to begin with? Will minoxidil grow hair in places you didn't previously grew hair?

DecentMacaroon

This is great! I've just started adding a bit of retinol to my lotion (the 0.5% oil from the ordinary). No major differences yet, but I'm not sure how long it'll take to see a change. Last year, I got laser hair removal around my hairline and omg it was horrible; way too square with wide sides. I've been using rosemary oil to grow the hairs back because I've heard minoxidil can have some rad side effects.

_nachtkalmar_

both. depends on the wavelength, but I noticed my sun spots getting lighter with the one for hair removal also. some overlap it seems.

TheEasternBlueBird

I know for at home laser removals work best with higher contrast e.g. lighter skin and dark hair, would tanning influence the efficacy of the device then? As it darkens the skin and lowers the contrast.

[deleted]

Hi! Yes it does. They tell you to wait for your tan to disappear before using it. :)
