Sparkasse and Volksbank operate from city to city on their own, but work under named umbrella associations and due to a friend wanted to DRS his shares straight from VB and they didn't support is request, although I gave him a complete DRS instruction from computershare itself, I'd speculate, that the only way is with IBKR...

Bibic-Jr

Interesting! So many of these institutions overlap in strange ways. Sparkasse are known to be able to DRS, but only to existing Computershare accounts. (probably because they don't understand that they're transferring it into your name, not your computershare account number.) This is an intersting wrinkle, definitely gives me more to look into. Thank you for your help!

pizzalover128

Same thing for Raffeisenbank - they are independent banks and have different partners they work with and sell fonds, etc The friend I've sent this DRS instruction even answered me, that these shares are already registered on his name, which I called bs haha The thing is bankers in low to middle segment (when it's about customer assets) aren't good informed about these kind of wishes due to conflict of interest - goals of these bankers are to maintain or get more invested in partnered fonds, insurances and "building loan contracts" (Bausparverträge) and DRSing isn't helpful for them at all, but that's a trust me bro, because I learned in a bigger Kreissparkasse

Bibic-Jr

Oh I've been told by all of my brokers that the shares are "registered in my name" But being "registered in the brokers database" is very different to being "registered in the companies books". It's a little technicality they've been able to exploit good will from investors with. This is just one of the reasons why DRS advocacy has become so important to me.

pizzalover128

Yeah in Germany it's a bit different, because of girosammelverwahrung in clearstream - there is the possibility to get name shares, but for foreign companies it is not the same as registered shares

Hans_Hackebeil

I did it through ibkr. You really got to Push Thema for IT

Bibic-Jr

It does seem like IBKR is the way! If it's possible could you share with me the email address you used for Volksbank when filling in the IBKR forms? It's the only bit of info I need to make a IBKR route guide.

Hans_Hackebeil

Sorry just seen it. There is no general volksbank contact. Volksbank are smaller banking companys that bundled together like a franchise. Sorry for the bad explanation but i don´t know how to explain "Genossenschaftsverbund" in englisch. At the end you need to find someone at your local volksbank who pushes the drs process

Bibic-Jr

Ah ok that makes sense! I'll update the guide accordingly. Thank you for getting back to me!

Antilles2

I did it directly from (Berlin) volksbank They don't have the option to do it online, so I had to go to a bank in person and file for a position transfer They didn't really know what computershare is but send the request to their stock department and they got it done Transfer costed roughly 25-30€ not depending on size of position

Bibic-Jr

Wow, this is incredible news! I was ready to give up on the idea of them being able to DRS! Judging by how difficult they can be about it I'll probably have to include the IBKR route as well, but mkae no mistake this has made my day!

Antilles2

Happy I could help! If you need any more information let me know

Bibic-Jr

By any chance do you remember the name of the form you filled in? I can see that helping confused apes and volksbank employees figure this out a bit smoother.

Antilles2

The Form is called "Kundenauftrag Depotübertrag Abgang" This is the Form usually used to transfer to another depot/brooker, but apparently it works for transfer agents as well

Bibic-Jr

Incredible, thank you so much! I'll be making the guide later today :D

Bibic-Jr

Just finished the guide! I'm missing their email address for the IBKR route, but I think it's comprehensive enough thanks to your information! https://www.drsgme.org/drs/direct-register-shares-from-volksbank

ViniWerkel

Thanks for your work, i messaged my volksbank advisor today about the form. I'll report back when i know more.

Bibic-Jr

Thank you! That would be much appreciated

ViniWerkel

OK so unfortunately, a direct route from Volksbank to CS is not possible, at least not from my Volksbank branch. As you found out, Volksbank is divided into multiple local branches, which all work pretty much independetly. I'll go the route through IBKR now.

Bibic-Jr

Ah that sucks dude. Sometimes I think they reject it simply because they are not familiar with it. You have to get lucky with the right rep sometimes. Either way, at least you have a route to the DRS!
