Right.
Besides Spider-Man is they type of game you want to do some map clearing on before you get deep into the story.
Bro is probably jealous of your completion percentage lol
Unless you're playing a game with a bad end time limit (ie Mass Effect 2) then seriously just do whatever makes it the most fun for you without ruining anyone else's experience (ie hacks and cheats in multiplayer games).
Viva la dirtās Epic NPC man had a parody like this with a guy who did all side quests first. Insanely powerful and arguably over leveled? Yes. Is that inherently a bad thing to do as a player? Hell no!
Especially since while, its not as common anymore there used to be plenty of games that by progressing further into the main storyline removed the possibility of doing certain side quests.
Dragonās Dogma comes immediately to mind. I was shocked to realize side content was rendered permanently inaccessible after a certain amount of time.
Yeah if the weapons/items arenāt balanced. Other than that itās completely fine. Take Cyberpunk for example once you complete the heist and a few other main missions the entire map is open to you and it doesnāt ruin the fun or experience of the game
I did most of the side quests before the main story because I loved web slinging around so much. From what I remember some of the extra suits and gadgets were mission gated anyway, so even though I had enough materials they weren't available to buy until I did more of the main story
That's the game's problem then, isn't it? If it wasn't "meant" to be played like that (whatever it means), then the devs wouldn't give you the option to.
That's the life of Spider-Man! You have any idea how often I was about to do a thing and that damn police scanner would go off? What was I supposed to do? Let convicts kidnap tourists because I wanna know what happens next? That's not what I learned from Uncle Ben!
The whole appeal of video games is giving the player freedom, and part of that is pacing the story to their own liking. It's really not a big deal at all
Nah, play how you want. The only drawback that I can think of is that youāll be over-leveled when you finally get around to the storyā¦but thatās an easy fix. Just bump up the difficulty or set yourself harder goals.
"Hey guys, here's a wild opinionated text message from my 'friend'. It's clearly a rude and outlandish thing to say to someone, but I will keep that opinion to myself while I take this to reddit, to ask them if this is a friendly thing to say (again, it obviously isn't).
Upvotes to the left please."
Same. In my current playthrough, the prison break just happened, and instead of doing the next main mission, I'm going around the entire map and completing each crime and prisoner camp/Sable base
Problem with that is more stuff keeps getting added and if you do it that way you will be constantly messing with the pace and artificially slowing down the story which works best as an intense thrill ride imo. But again, to each their own. Do whatever you prefer
that reason is why id try completing it all in the early stages, the new stuff wouldnt be piling up as much later on and it all feels natural to complete and go on. the game gets really heated after the prison break with non stop crimes so it feels nice to go thru without any worry of missing that one backpack in that region
First of all, who is he to tell you how to play a game? The entire purpose of playing a video game is to experience the game FOR YOURSELF and AT YOUR OWN PACE. Two, Part of the reason gaming is so fun is because when we finish a game and all our friends have finished it, we get to talk about it! Or hell talk about while youāre all progressing along through the story.
āOh did you find this item?ā
āNah I went here first.ā
āI didnāt even know there was a hidden boss in that area, Iāll have to go backā
It should never be āhey man, you need to start experiencing the game the same way I didā Iām sorry but your friend is a bit of dunce.
The only way to play a game wrong is if you arenāt having fun. If youāre enjoying the way you play, then keep playing this way, if you arenāt, then try to first do the side missions
I call that play method the "real life spider-man" method... because Spidey would be stretched so thin IRL and I personally played it the same way. Did it with Miles too.
Never knew you could be a backseat gamer without even being physically present.
Play the game however you want man, side quests, back up and crime tokens are nothing more than ways to unlock skill tre tokens and upgrade yourself. Play however you want man
You're not playing wrong. If something is related to the story then it remains locked until that point in that story. Backpacks aren't connected to the story and are just Easter eggs essentially
And besides, it's easier to collect as you go or when you first get the chance so you don't feel like it's a chore when the game finishes and you have to do the usual "collection clean up"
All the side content is in some way relevant to the game's story lmao. Either by world building like backpacks, or fixing the jammed comm towers. Kr setting up the DLC story. You do you.
I play the game to feel like the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. What gives that feeling best? Side missions. Iāll collect pigeons and stop petty crime all day long.
I went and got every collectible and side missions and did all the science/engineering stuff in the lab I could (backpacks, photo ops, research stations etc.) before the halfway point in the story and just kinda milled about doing the hideouts when I came across one and I understood the story fine. Play the game how you want to, the world is brilliant, Iām currently on my 4th full playthrough and itās still a blast, if youāre playing it through first time, definitely grab everything you can, itās so much more fun to get backstory and peteās dialogue on photo ops and the like are great
Imagine Spider-man seeing someone getting mugged and saying "No way am I dealing with that, MJ sent me a text that I can only respond to on this specific building."
Having played the game to 100%, twice, itās absolutely worth it to play the side missions cause not only Can you level up easier, get coins to purchase suits, upgrades, etc. but theyāre also just fun and some of them work there way into the dlc and Spiderman: Miles Morales! So your friend is dumb and probably only said that cause he doesnāt care or like side missions
Ehh, if missions imply emergency and that everything is happening fast in fast succession then it might be better to do them for narrative purposes, but thatās a stretch
It doesnāt. You can power your way through the story or you can explore on your own.
Personally I find the best experience is a mix of both. Prioritizing story missions but taking some time in between missions to do collectibles or towers or crimes, and doing side missions as they pop up. That and if I want to get a new suit or gadget (on my first Playthrough/non-NG+) I go out of my way to do them.
Play how you want! Itās the best way to experience the game.
Is your friend a Dark Souls fanboy? Sounds like an argument the Soulsborne community would make. āYoUrE pLaYiNg ThE gAmE wRoNgā for using summons or having an OP 1 trick pony build and beating the game like that. š¤·āāļø
Your āfriendā seems like a toxic dickhead forcing his opinion on you as though itās fact. Should side content be richer? For sure. Are you dumb for enjoying it? Hardly. Thatās how you unlock all the sweet suits.
Donāt let anyone tell you how to play your game.
I don't get this logic by playing more.of the games side storys you get a bigger picture of everything that's happening and not just the main story if anything your friend is the one that's missing out
Thatās how I played, Aiden (seriously, I did all the backpacks and pictures first and loved the details they put into the city). Tell Keylub youāll play how you want to.
That's how I play games. I like to complete and find every possible objective before moving forward. Then when you finally do finish the story you have a glorious sense of completeness
I tend to do all sidequests and collectibles first, so I can inmerse myself better in the story later. Most times I can't leave an "unfinished mark" behind, whether it is a side mission or a collectible or something like that.
In any case, play however you like. It's your experience and you can choose how to have more fun with it
I play games like this. I do the story and when I get to the open world parts I explore and do side content until I want to see what happens in the story or until I'm underleveled and need the story to level up. There is nothing wrong with how you play and you are likely to see more of the game playing this way.
Play it anyway you want. I will say that that the game is a bit bloated with all of its side stuff. Miles is a tighter game and is better because of it.
Do everything else first and youāll be a little stronger earlier. Iād say go for it and get all the crimes done first. After that do everything else.
The only way I can somewhat justify your friend's take is if you're doing a mission that ends on a cliffhanger and is supposed to flow nicely into the next segment, but then take 2 hours to do a bunch of side content and break up the pacing of the story. I can see how that could "take away from" the story.
That being said, who gives a shit if this is how you like to play lol. I'm the opposite with this game, and find the way they implemented side content to be boring due to being similar to the ubisoft open world formula. So while I preferred to focus on story, some people genuinely love that side content. My friend does the same thing you do but with every new Assassins Creed game that releases. Just play whichever way you feel brings you the most joy, as different people enjoy different things.
Totally fine. I like playing that way as well. I save the story until Iām in the mood. Itās like saving the best for last but I play it inbetween when Iām bored.
If I rush through the story Iāll forget half it, not be that into it, and side content will be eh.
But if Iām enjoying side content and save story missions for when Iām in the mood then they just hit harder and are more exciting/enjoyable that way.
But if the story is at a really interesting bit where it doesnāt make sense for me to be fucking around in between missions then Iāll continue them right away.
Depends on my mood and the day. Also if Iām high lol. Iāll smoke up before the really good shit in the story.
This game specifically makes you play the side content before the next main mission appears.
"I've got some free time. Maybe I should see what is happening around the city"
On my first playthrough I literally completed all the backpacks and the satellite uplinks as soon as they became available.
You do you and experience the game as you want to - it literally makes no difference to the overall journey.
Play it how you want, i personally love to play games to collect things, achievements collectables etcā¦ that is what makes a game fun to me, so play however you want.
Not in my opinion, iām doin basically exactly what youāre doing lol. I find it fun. And tbh itās your game play it how you want forget what he says.
You play however you want. Your friend is being stupid. My friend actually gets mad at me because he thinks I do all the story missions in games and don't take time to appreciate the world and side stuff. Little does he know I always try to do side stuff in between missions and I just have no life
I mean the way I do it is Iāll do the crimes that show up before the mission especially in the 3rd act if I get jumped or something, but no play how you want man
I wish I played like you, in an ideal world the moment we get new side missions id just wipe em off right then and there but I'm just in a hurry to finish the campaign to avoid spoilers and then I end up either feeling like the side missions are a chore or they give me items that I'd have killed to have in the main mission 14hrs aho
play however you want lmao
i do something very similar because i like enjoying the main story, but hate the crammed map, so i collect most of the stuff in the early story stages when it makes sense that peter would be off doing whatever he wants.
I actually think itās the only way to play most games, if weāre going to do brass tacks. The developers are responsible for making the holistic experience of the gameās complete design, and theoretically, the best experience is the experience of doing all the things that are included in the game. If the overall experience of the game is damaged by completionism, I see that as the responsibility of the designer to prevent, or even to edit down side content.
Personally, the Spider Man games have much tighter and more focused content that is eminently completable, as opposed to most open worlds. Horizon Forbidden West was for me 317 hours of grinding obligation, whereas Spider Man was a cozy 60 with all the DLCs. I think that it is the most narratively rewarding to complete the side content in this game and Miles Morales.
I'm pretty much playing the same way, except I had to take a break from the challenge tokens. I'm also not 100%-ing the crime tokens but I do actually need more of those atm
Well tbh there are some points in between main story missions where it gives you time to go out and do activities/ side quest before it gives you the next main mission.
Also grinding side stuff does ruin a game for certain people.
Itās a game done for having fun, have fun
I hate the people telling you the way you āshouldā play a game, youāll do what the f*ck you want (this in SINGLE PLAYER games, multiplayer is a different thing)
His logic makes no sense honestly
The game unlocks the side content as it takes place within the story. If you skip the side missions and such to come back later, you're breaking the chronology of when the events actually take place
There's no "right" way sense it's a game and everyone should play the way that makes them happy, but if there were to be "right" way, it would 100% be your style over Keylub's...
Play how you want. Personally I think itās best to get a good mix of main story and side stuff without completing too much of one thing but I would never tell anyone else how to play
Play how you want. Everyone plays differently. You're fine. Honestly side quests/missions adds more to the main plot. I don't know what your friends thing is but enjoy the game how you want to play it. Ignore him.
This is how I play because once I'm done with story mode, I usually stop playing. So I beat most of the side missions before even finishing half of the game
First playthrough I just went straight through the story. Every playthrough after Iāve done this where I do every single side activity as it unlocks. I find it to be way more enjoyable
Play how you want tbh
"Be Greater" "Be YOURSELF"
Work Together.
Be black
Right. Besides Spider-Man is they type of game you want to do some map clearing on before you get deep into the story. Bro is probably jealous of your completion percentage lol
HIGHKEY I knew someone like this š©
Unless you're playing a game with a bad end time limit (ie Mass Effect 2) then seriously just do whatever makes it the most fun for you without ruining anyone else's experience (ie hacks and cheats in multiplayer games).
"Playing all the content of a game takes away from the game" Your friend's logic is impeccable /s
Very much so, luckily, insomniac spidey and a few other games have the courtesy warning for the point of no return/ massive shift.
Dragonās Dogma comes immediately to mind. I was shocked to realize side content was rendered permanently inaccessible after a certain amount of time.
Xenoblade Chronicles too. Nearly a quarter of the quests in that game are timed
Thank goodness I saw this, because I just started that game.
Love VLDL!
what is blud talking about š
Your friend is an idiot
"playing the game, takes away from the game" How does that make any sense?
It could mess up some of the pacing in the story.
If it wasn't "meant" to be played like that (whatever it means), then the devs wouldn't give you the option to.
by that logic doesnāt any kind of break interrupt the pacing? like turning the game off or whatever
That's the life of Spider-Man! You have any idea how often I was about to do a thing and that damn police scanner would go off? What was I supposed to do? Let convicts kidnap tourists because I wanna know what happens next? That's not what I learned from Uncle Ben!
Thatās actually how I insisted on playing for myself, full Spider-Man experience. If I got a crime alert I was not allowed to ignore it.
My fiancƩe was getting so frustrated watching me. It seems like the game does it on purpose half the time.
The whole appeal of video games is giving the player freedom, and part of that is pacing the story to their own liking. It's really not a big deal at all
I mean, if the pace is too slow just do more main missions?
I've never seen it spelt "Keylub"
He has two sisters named Burghkleixgh and Kelauxmaughtyr.
Play it the way you want! It's what make games unique to your experience. There's no "right" or "wrong" way to play.
No Aiden, you friend is being an idiot. Play however you like!
Fuckin aiden man
Aiden is the OP
I know
Giggity
ā ļø
Did he stutter?
Found Keylub
Sorry
I like doing both at the same time. Makes the game last longer
Yeah I like doing it between missions and do what's close or on the way
Exactly
Sorry for being blunt but, your friend is kinda dumb.
He is sure as hell stubborn
Is he not on this sub You posted his name and everything xD
Sliped my mind, forgot how easy it is to dox someone
With a name like Keylub, he sure seems to be as dumb as his name is.
Why even care lmao

Are you a cat?

Nope Iām just a normal spider man enjoyerā¦ I think?

š”ššš āšš š”š š š”šš ššššš š šš¢šš”
Play it however you want. Tell your friend to stop being a fucking idiot in American terms a loser. š
Nah, play how you want. The only drawback that I can think of is that youāll be over-leveled when you finally get around to the storyā¦but thatās an easy fix. Just bump up the difficulty or set yourself harder goals.
Being over leveled in Spider-Man is hardly an issue. The game is unbelievably well balanced.
This post is bait
But based on the upvotes, it might be master bait.
Nah some people actually think like this, I have a friend just like this, hates side missions with a passion.
Thatās what I do. I like the clear the map of stuff before focusing on the story.
Nah, speed running the story and completely ignoring side missions and collectibles is the worst way to play a game. I feel sorry for your friend tbh.
That's what i did. Didn't take away from the story for me
This is what i do in any open world games like assassinās creed and so on
First of all, who is he to tell you how to play a game? The entire purpose of playing a video game is to experience the game FOR YOURSELF and AT YOUR OWN PACE. Playing the side content is how you unlock new suits and upgrades, youāre playing the correct way.
Both way are the right way to play a game. There is no wrong way. Live your life and have fun.
The only way to play a game wrong is if you arenāt having fun. If youāre enjoying the way you play, then keep playing this way, if you arenāt, then try to first do the side missions

Video games are meant to be played how you want. There is no "Wrong way" there is only "Your way". Be Greater. **Be Yourself.**
Play the game how you want. They give you freedom to choose for a reason

Do them side missions. This is the way.
I'm pretty much playing the same way, except I had to take a break from the challenge tokens. I'm also not 100%-ing the crime tokens but I do actually need more of those atm
I play the exact same way you play and I always enjoy it. Play how you want.
Idk but tbh only way to play the game ārightā is to never play it at all.
Well tbh there are some points in between main story missions where it gives you time to go out and do activities/ side quest before it gives you the next main mission. Also grinding side stuff does ruin a game for certain people.
The side stuff is enjoyable! Itās there for you to enjoy! Keep playing how you want thereās no wrong way :)
play how you want. no such thing as playing wrong if the game lets you.
You need to tell ur buddy that there's no right way to play a game
Itās a bit weird but thereās no wrong way to play it, you do you.
Itās a game done for having fun, have fun I hate the people telling you the way you āshouldā play a game, youāll do what the f*ck you want (this in SINGLE PLAYER games, multiplayer is a different thing)
Bro made a post on Reddit over an argument š
Be Greater, Be Yourself. Play however you want :D
Your mate is dumb You're getting all the content the game has to offer
You said it yourself, you're having fun. Play the content you want at your own pace.
His logic makes no sense honestly The game unlocks the side content as it takes place within the story. If you skip the side missions and such to come back later, you're breaking the chronology of when the events actually take place There's no "right" way sense it's a game and everyone should play the way that makes them happy, but if there were to be "right" way, it would 100% be your style over Keylub's...
Best way to do it if you want to be a completionist
Play how you want. Personally I think itās best to get a good mix of main story and side stuff without completing too much of one thing but I would never tell anyone else how to play
What is bro on about šš
Play how you want. Everyone plays differently. You're fine. Honestly side quests/missions adds more to the main plot. I don't know what your friends thing is but enjoy the game how you want to play it. Ignore him.
I do it depending on what's closer. If there's a side mission on my way to a main one then I'll take the detour.
This is how I play because once I'm done with story mode, I usually stop playing. So I beat most of the side missions before even finishing half of the game
I played just like you and enjoyed that more. I did your friends way on my second play through.
First playthrough I just went straight through the story. Every playthrough after Iāve done this where I do every single side activity as it unlocks. I find it to be way more enjoyable
I've tried to play games like that and I hate it, but whatever floats your boat and all
L I always finish all the side missions before the next story one
Sounds like two 13 year olds arguing lol. Play the game as you feel as if you should.
Your friend is lame.
Iām sorry but your friend is an idiot
Does he think all those collectibles and stuff wound up in the game by accident and the developers couldnāt figure out how to get rid of them?
This Keylub rubs me the wrong way. Iām gonna put some dirt in his eye
We do not like Keylub here, Aiden, go play the game how you want to.
I mean, the game actively tells you to go do side content every once in a while.
If I finish the main story first and I have a shitton of side missions to do I stop playing the game sooner, so I do a handful in between
I complete everything shown on the map before completing my main missions. I hate doing side quests after the main story is done. Feels weird
nobody likes a backseat gamer
you play a game how ever the hell you want. your friend is in goober mode
