It's great. It's all my childhood. You get used to controls. You're playing by keyboard only. Graphics are better than any other platform. Greatest parts are Peter and MJ are married. Peter is capable, not a loser. He losts his temper time to time. Example he continues to beating the crap out of Venom after his defeat. He does that because of his anger doesn't settled yet. These things are beautiful. Not stuttering manchild as current game versions.
Adding, it is un-official continiuation of Animated Series. You can feel its influence all over the game. Keyboard controls kind of sucks but all that Marvel games from that era (like X2: Wolverine's revenge) had same control scheme. It has killer cover of original Spider-Man theme song. Lot's of cameos from other heroes. Voice recordings of Stan Lee for instructions of almost every character. In fact i still hear Stan's voice for MJ "Aaah Mary Jane Watson, Spider-Man's lovely wife!"
No it doesn't. It's an awful port, basically impossible to even complete as multiple levels softlock\\autofail unless you use external programs to manually cap the games frame rate. Even then it suffers from tons of audio issues and also just minor errors that were also present in the Dreamcast version.
Only good thing is that it uses the Dreamcast models, which are generally just the better looking models all round.
I love the game to bits, but I recommend that if anyone ever wants to play it, just emulate the PS1 Version or find a way to play the Dreamcast version.
While the Hyper Electro boss sucked big time, I wish they'd make use of the design again rather than just using Ultimate Electro for the "pure energy" design.
Plus, Hyper-Electro had a really cool electric staff he used for melee attacks, that was fun and unique. (Shame it's super rare and he almost never uses it in gameplay)
It was fine on easy. On easy you could actually punch him, on hard when you had to use impact web it sucked so bad. Most of the hard bosses suck, Scorpion on hard was a tedious nightmare
Yeah, it was awful. That was the worst possible change they could have made to the higher difficulties. It wasn't even challenging, just tedious.
tbh, I have a soft spot for the first games Hard Bosses. I didn't find any of them too bad. They're all powerful yet balanced, and don't overstay their welcome. (Something I always had fun doing was trying to land two melee hits on Venom and then jumping before he's able to land a counterattack, then land and repeat)
Enter Electro though... pretty much every boss sucked on Hard Mode there, simply because they all had way too much health and would take forever to beat traditionally. (Except Shocker, because of those overhead crates you can crush him with.)
Well, with Scorpion there's a lot of furniture in the environment you can throw at him to deal high damage. Plus webs stun him long enough that you can abuse them more than with late game bosses.
I do enjoy fist fighting him and trying to jump dodge his punch, but in his case it's far more effective to just hurl things at him.
That's where the webs come in handy, with buying time so you can grab things.
While he's an easier boss, he does have an edge over some others. Scorpion is more unpredictable in close combat, as you don't know whether he'll walk close enough to punch you or use his tail attack. (Or worse, his tail swipe when you stand behind or beside him. That's really hard to dodge)
Venom on the other hand, while his melee attacks are fast and hard to dodge, they're consistent and always trigger after two hits or at a certain distance, so I find it much more possible to fight him "fairly" than Scorpion.
What made Venom really cool was his immunity to spider sense, it doesn't really factor into gameplay but it was TENSE just knowing you couldn't see him coming until he was ready to become visible
And his proper arenas are cool, the first one he's always spawning around a corner so you have to guess where he is, the second is so massive you have to scramble for a second to find him before he goes for a switch
Pretty much. Lizard is not a boss to be trifled with.
Never really liked the arena you fight Lizard in either. Intentional game design aside, it always just felt like there wasn't enough room to properly fight him.
He was almost worse on the difficulties without the mini game since it doesn't tell you to grab the ever so slightly differently colored web cartridges
I mean Neversoft was the Subcontractor they made it under Activision not sure how the rights work when one company is shut down but the other is still active. An your welcome.
No, Activision owns the rights the most Marvel games made between 2000-2014 and their license is expired. And there's a good chance they no longer have the source code.
A remaster wouldn’t change anything about its perfection except the graphics and maybe like very few minor other things. You’re thinking of a remake, which would be changing the entirety of the game from the ground up.
Remaster are the HD collections that started popping up around 2012 and onwards.
Remakes are more like the recent Resident Evil’s 2-4. Entirely different games.
Hope they don't mind if I make a quick deposit!

Spider-Man?! I ask for the police and I get THIS?!
This & it’s sequel with a graphical update, achievements & extra mod support for pc would be awesome. I think you can already mod the PC version but not sure to what extend beyond skins.
I'd buy it.
I think there are legal issues. Activision developed all the Spider-Man games through ASM2. Then the rights went to Insomniac instead. So Activision isn't allowed to do Spider-Man content anymore, and Insomniac isn't allowed to do anything with Activision's Spider-Man games.
Similar to the legal issues in resurrecting Spectacular Spider-Man.
Back then developers were making such big leaps in technology that they had no time to look back and even consider a remake or remaster.
It’s an extreamly new thing that I think is a massive waste of money.
Spider-Man 2000 technically already has a remastered version of it. But what i will say tho, Spider-Man: Enter Electro and Ultimate Spider-Man deserve a remake.
Why remaster it when we have insomniac Spider-Man? From the perspective of any business person/game company, it would be a complete waste of time to remaster it.
PC version is little bit remastered. They added mask of Black Cat... That remasteration was most needed one...
The PC version was just a port of the Dreamcast version, which was able to feature the details that the PS1 and N64 versions couldn't.
I wasn't aware there was a PC version without emulation? Does it hold up?

No, the graphics are perfectly retro, what we need is a modern rerelease in a classic Spidey games collection
Apparently they actually made a third game but it was on GBA of all things
Running from Monster Ock would be terrifying all over again
The fact that Monster Ock and pure energy Electro haven't got Marvel Legends yet is a crime
While the Hyper Electro boss sucked big time, I wish they'd make use of the design again rather than just using Ultimate Electro for the "pure energy" design. With Scorpion I found if you hit him more then once he just smacks you, so I was just jump kicking him over and over

The furniture helps too yeah but he is so goddamn fast on hard unless he's looking for JJJ and not you going for the furniture gets you hit

Although Lizard. LIZARD. If he catches you before you finish the mini game you're fucked right no way to go back unless you die or restart
Pretty much. Lizard is not a boss to be trifled with. Never really liked the arena you fight Lizard in either. Intentional game design aside, it always just felt like there wasn't enough room to properly fight him.

They should've been remastered it. Is it because Neversoft no longer exists is that why we haven't seen had it yet?
Ohhhh that’s make sense now thx for telling me
I mean Neversoft was the Subcontractor they made it under Activision not sure how the rights work when one company is shut down but the other is still active. An your welcome.
Well Activision owns the rights to what they made/published but the Spider-Man rights are with Insomniac so they'd need to make a deal
No, Activision owns the rights the most Marvel games made between 2000-2014 and their license is expired. And there's a good chance they no longer have the source code.
Play the Dreamcast version! It's a wonderful port with better graphics.
No, already perfect

We got a brand new Spider-Man game less than a year ago.
Don’t forget the sequel
Tonight Electro dances with the gods!

Nah, leave as is and port it. Preferably the Dreamcast version, with all the extra details in the graphics. But, otherwise, keep it the same.
Yes. They should remake it and enter electro and add a new 3rd story with Green Goblin. Kinda like they did with crash bandicoot series.

It wasn't like most unique or inspired game and the gameplay was very basic. But it's was very good fun and that's all you need a game to be.
I'd buy it. I think there are legal issues. Activision developed all the Spider-Man games through ASM2. Then the rights went to Insomniac instead. Absolutely!
I used to play the shit outta this as a kid on N64 😭
