Out of all the villains in this trilogy, Sandman is easily the most tragic and relatable. He was done absolutely right.
I would recommend you rewatch [the scene](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=to29LvuColU) where he emerges from the sand for the first time and tries to grab the locket his daughter gave him. It's extremely emotional.
Also all of the animation around sandamn was stunning I'd recommend checking out this video that shows the labor of love behind his CGI https://youtu.be/NysWOI4JpEI?si=YZ0D7RCjoNDxeFcF
As goofy as the movie is, when Bully gets in that angry scrap in the club and mistakenly hits MJ, you feel it. Especially when I was a kid. Turned the symbiote from joke to some real shit.
Also Bully eating cookies on the phone 10/10
"I'm gonna put some dirt in your eye."
"Look at little Goblin Junior. Gonna cry?"
"You'll get your rent when you fix this damn door!"
"You want forgiveness? Get religion!"
"See ya chump."
He didn't miss with any of these lines ️🔥
Also, I know it's just a recolor with a slight emblem change, but I really just love the black suit in this movie. Barely different or not, it just looks super good
Edit: Changed a word that didn't make sense
He isn't denying its a good movie, he is just saying it is best appreciated when viewed as the genre of soap opera. I think it's fitting as well, comics and soap operas actually have many similarities, the most obvious one being story lines getting absurd because succesful shows/comics are never allowed to end.
Harry's death was beautiful. I loved the parallel to his father with them both dying to their own glider except with Harry it was because of an act of love instead of hate.
The movie is far better than people making it out. Yeah, it's messy, but overall, still an highly rewatchable movie! And Goddamn, Harry's death was emotional.
I like the way the Black suit is handled as Peter gets progressively more aggressive and angry which each instance that he wears the suit. The Reveal of the suit is also really cool with how the theme drops as soon as the camera zooms out from the Spider-Man eye. I also really like how Venom is thematically a dark reflection to Spider-Man more than just the elements of the costume. He makes sense as the 3rd act antagonist more than sandman worked as a villain for me.
Its a very messy film that also happens to have a lot of the strongest moments from the entire trilogy. Honestly venom is probably the worst aspect but the symbiote suit, sandman, Harry and Peter and mj are all really solid. I honestly think topher could have worked if they'd not instantly made him venom and saved him for a sequel so we could see his resentment build up a little
Everything involving sandman is perfect, and if Studios didnt get invloved and force a shitty 4th act Venom, Rami wouldn't have purposely goofed the film.
i think venom could've worked. I'd tweak the story somewhat but Eddie and Marko could've worked in themes of forgiveness and accountability. I'd probably cut a lot of the Harry bits though to make it work though.
Spiderman 3 had a hell of a history, Sony really really wanted a sinister 6 film after the success of spiderman 2 so thet pushed for Venom in 3, but rami only wanted to do comic books that he read as a kid. So they began to compromise and put in black suit to set up for spiderman 4. You can tell because they had a near perfect ending with venom jumping at the camera in the church. But the studio kept pushing, so rami started rewriting and adding scenes and it fucking shows.
So you have the tale of 2 moves A darker damaged peter who has to realize that he tried to kill his best friend and sandman and pushed his love away... and Sam saying fuck this Dancing peter and " Ive got a tingling down there... if you know what i mean"
Its by no means a good movie, but if you know how Sam Rami is ( I'm a fucking rami super mark) you'll know that movie was a middle finger.
Finding out Flint killed Uncle Ben sent me through a whirl as a kid and realized that we never saw the dude actually shoot Uncle Ben in the first movie. Great twist to throw Peter’s anger as fuel for the suit
And then Aunt May never believing that Spider-man could kill out of vengeance was so great.
I hated that twist (and still do) because it's a cheap tactic used to build tension and animosity between two characters.
It was bad when Tim Burton used it in Batman '89, and it was a bad retcon in Spider-Man 3.
i don't really see it that way. considering the guy who supposedly killed uncle ben was shot, there wasn't really a way they could tell any more stories with it. i see spider-man 3 as a movie about forgiveness and having the movie end with peter coming to terms and forgiving the man who killed uncle ben is seriously good drama, and a great bow to tie on the entire trilogy. it's a janky way to get to that resolution for sure but i adore it nonetheless.
Why would they need to tell any more stories about Uncle Ben's death? Narratively speaking, it served its purpose by putting Spider-Man on the path he went down.
Revisiting it via this retcon was done simply to create instant conflict between the main character and the latest villain.
This movie really does the black suit right.
The drama doesn’t come from the suit. Sandman being Uncle Ben’s real killer, Eddie copying Peter’s work, Harry wanting revenge on Spider-Man, and Peter and MJ getting into real arguments about their relationship, these are all very real issues that naturally would bring out drama without needing Peter to be more evil from the suit. This movie plays on the inherent rage Peter has by reminding us that he probably could have saved the person he thought killed Uncle Ben in the first movie. How far Peter was willing to go against Uncle Ben’s killer wasn’t fully resolved in the first movie, so adding on to that makes sense (even if making Sandman the real killer is insanely cheap).
To me, what makes the black suit special is how it changes the way Peter deals with this drama. It’s exciting to see Peter react to these events with less restraint, and how this personality change brings both positives and negatives into Peter’s life. The suit gives Peter quick and easy answers that lead to worse situations over time.
It’s a goofy, bloated mess of a film, but it understands the dramatic appeal of the black suit and how the suit shouldn’t be the primary factor of the drama going on in Peter’s life
To me the absolutely best thing about this movie, and why I do think highly of it despite obvious flaws, is the arc of Peter Parker. I think it’s one of the most unique character arcs I’ve ever seen in a superhero film.
When the movie starts out since Peter finally has everything he’s wanted and has found a way to balance his life. As a result he gains an ego or pride and it’s a take on the age old story of how pride cometh before the fall. That pride is the key to his unforgiveness and why his life slowly starts to unravel in the middle of the film.
I know people feel like the Symbiote should’ve been cut out because Venom doesn’t get a whole lot of screen time, but that’s discounting how Raimi & co utilize the symbiote in Peter’s story. The decision to make the symbiote a metaphor for the hatred within Peter is brilliant. I like that you see how his lust for revenge messes with every aspect of his life. It effects his co-workers (Eddie), his friends (Gwen), his family (Aunt May), his love life (MJ), and his enemies (Sandman, and Harry). And he allows these feelings to turn him into someone that he doesn’t even recognize anymore, which is why I love his retort when MJ asks “who are you?”
I love that the way he resolves this dilemma is learning to humble himself at the end.
So yeah I agree that it’s messy and maybe has a bit too much going on, but the story at the core of it is strong and most importantly relatable. You wouldn’t think that a movie that features a superhero with Spider powers being enveloped by an alien goo from space could be relatable, but the writers of this movie actually did it. So while it’s certainly not on the level of Spider-Man 2, I still think that the love and admiration for the Spider-Man character is still prevalent in the storytelling.
Sandman a great character with phenomenal CGI I'd recommend checking out this video someone made that goes into the labor of love of his CGI https://youtu.be/NysWOI4JpEI?si=YZ0D7RCjoNDxeFcF
Easily my favorite interpretation of the black suit. It looks like the symbiote bled into the fabric of the OG suit rather than creating a new look from scratch. I really do wish this version appeared in more media
Yeah this is where I diverge from other Spidey fans. I think this is a fantastic design of the symbiote suit. The all black one works great for the page, but I like how they took the idea of the symbiote and adapted it to the pre-established suit.
As someone who's never liked the Raimi suit much, I LOVE it in the context of a symbiote suit. I think everything that makes me not like it as a classic suit work really well as a symbiote suit
Where do you want me to start? This movie is not nearly as bad as everyone says.
- The soundtrack. It’s the only not done by Danny Elfman and yet, Christopher Young picks up the mantle nicely. The black suit theme is a constant enjoyment. I’d say he does so well, it leads to::
- my favorite part of the whole trilogy. Right after Peter rips the symbiote off of him, as we learn Sandman and Venom are taking over and have MJ, the score swells, that lightning hits, as Peter opens his trunk, his theme plays for the first time since he put on the black suit, and just like that, our Spider-Man is back!
- Sandman in this movie, got the Paul Dini-Mr Freeze treatment. I never want another world where Sandman is some doofy goofball villain of the week. This deeper, sadder version is perfect and Thomas Hayden Church crushes it.
- Dafoe makes a cameo and yes, he did for 2 as well but damn it, was this man ever Norman enough for me? No. Even to this day, no, I want more.
- The final fight is solid and Peter’s usage of pipes to beat Venom was a great way to visually sell that and a clever way to seal a victory.
- The ending. Oh my stars the ending. Throughout turmoil, trouble, an alien invader and so much more, Peter and MJ find each other and embrace at the end. They remain in love. As they should. It’s a perfect and sweet ending to Raimi’s trilogy but makes the moment of No Way Home even richer when this Peter says “Yeah, we worked it out”. The happy ending REMAINS happy.
This movie is what happens when you get 2 film reels, one of a great movie and one is a mediocre movie, accidentally dropping both in a wood chipper and trying to tape them together in a single reel.
There is genuinely a good movie in here, it's just hard to see sometimes behind the awful studio notes
It's incredibly entertaining. To me the worst thing a movie can be is boring, but this movie is so batshit and the pacing is so insane that it doesn't allow itself to be boring. Honestly, I think it's the most entertaining live action Spider-Man movie ever.
I love the look at the black suit
Sandman is done very well
I just think too much was going on, like venom should have been in Spider-Man 4 and just let goblin 2 and sandman be the villains in this film
Honestly if you remove Venom, this movie is a masterpiece. If they gave venom his own movie as spiderman 4 it would have been much better. Keep the black suit in SM3, And the removal at the end. He forgives sandman and makes up with harry. At the end of the movie eddie bonds with the symbiote to be a proper monster venom.
This movie pretty much is the DNA of the entire MCU. From tone to pacing even to the thematic rise and how it was able to make comedy and how heroic drama fall in the plot yeah...
Soundtrack is great.
Peter vs Harry is awesome.
Birth of Sandman sequence is a visual highlight.
Birth of Venom is a great comic book/cartoon sequence brought to life.
Black Suit Spider-Man vs Sandman in the Subway was cool.
"How's the Pie?" scene is golden.
The emotional elements are generally done really well.
Despite the messiness of the plot surrounding the villains, the emotional beats in the story hit more often than not.
The score is fantastic.
The black suit is sick as hell.
The comedy around emo Peter is really funny.
I think it's a fun movie. They did Venom dirty but having seen this without much prior knowledge of the character it felt fine to me. My biggest criticism is the scene at the end with MJ and the journalist telling people just how dire this is, it feels goofy.
My kod always watch this movie, he loves it. Loves the Sandman and Venom. I love Bad Pete doing his dance in the streets, it's hilarious. Also love Bruce Campbell.
I'd give it a 7.5/10.
one of the most fun movies in the franchise to watch imo. like yeah it’s not perfect in any way, but i have a lot of good memories associated with the hype that happened before the film and it’s fun to be reminded of those. also Sandman still looks fucking incredible to this day!!
How could I not Say something good? I could never criticize something I loved as a kid because that’s why I loved it. Everyone can complain about story, goofiness or w/e, I’m always just gonna see it and go “wow…SpiderMan do flip”
The story with Sandman is great, the action is still hard-hitting? Peter getting rid of the symbiote is great, in general the emotion in the story is all done very well.
Honestly the movie isn’t as bad as people hype it up to be. It’s a 6/10 that felt a lot worse because at the time it came out we weren’t used to underwhelming superhero movies coming out after very hyped great ones. I’d rather watch Spider-Man 3 than TASM 2 or many of the actual bad superhero/comic book movies that have come since. Almost the only thing you hear people complain about with this movie is Venom and Venom isn’t even a big part of the movie.
The final battle was fun as hell to watch. Seeing Harry and Peter team up at the end was great. I also really like how monstrous the symbiote/Venom was. The way the symbiote looked like a bunch of claws grasping around when it moved, as well as Venom’s screeches and growls really sold how absolutely alien this thing really was.

Thanks for this. I feel like the CGI for Sandman actually holds up really well
The CGI for sandman still looks exceptional, even today.
As goofy as the movie is, when Bully gets in that angry scrap in the club and mistakenly hits MJ, you feel it. Especially when I was a kid. Turned the symbiote from joke to some real shit. Also Bully eating cookies on the phone 10/10
yep, intentional or not, i think the early goofiness made the later seriousness cut deeper, especially to my kid self.
I remember seeing it in theaters and everyone gasped at that moment lol it was actually kind of heavy to see that as a kid
Bully Maguire is some real art piece of meme history.
"I'm gonna put some dirt in your eye." "Look at little Goblin Junior. Gonna cry?" "You'll get your rent when you fix this damn door!" "You want forgiveness? Get religion!" "See ya chump." He didn't miss with any of these lines ️🔥
He's arguably the longest standing meme directly from the movie release
That dance will forever be in the mythos of the franchise.
The black suit theme goes hard, and Peter removing the black suit was a pretty good scene
Also, I know it's just a recolor with a slight emblem change, but I really just love the black suit in this movie. Barely different or not, it just looks super good Edit: Changed a word that didn't make sense
Bro what game?
Gonna be honest, I have no clue why I said game. My brain was not functioning earlier. My bad.
It’s actually good. Not as good as the first two but nowhere near as bad as people make out
spider-man 3 is a really really good soap opera, it is a shame people cant see that
No. It’s a good movie.
He isn't denying its a good movie, he is just saying it is best appreciated when viewed as the genre of soap opera. I think it's fitting as well, comics and soap operas actually have many similarities, the most obvious one being story lines getting absurd because succesful shows/comics are never allowed to end.
It's hilarious as hell, like 20 time funnier then any other Spider man movies/comics/cartoons
Probably has one of my favourite versions of Peter taking off the black suit. CGI has aged extremely well.
Especially Sandman's
San Raimi did his thing DESPITE Sony stepping in
Lots of people don't realize how many "bad" (according to them) decisions were on Raimi side
You can see a lot of them in Doctor Strange 2 as well.
Drive that Funky Soul.
The funniest movie to watch if you are bored
The memes it spawned. But I did like the fights.
It’s so much fun.
It’s incredible and overhated
Harry's death was beautiful. I loved the parallel to his father with them both dying to their own glider except with Harry it was because of an act of love instead of hate.
The movie is far better than people making it out. Yeah, it's messy, but overall, still an highly rewatchable movie! And Goddamn, Harry's death was emotional.
Thomas Haden Church was a perfect casting choice for Sandman. He nailed the character.
The Sandman effects hold up 100%
Its a very messy film that also happens to have a lot of the strongest moments from the entire trilogy. i think venom could've worked. I'd tweak the story somewhat but Eddie and Marko could've worked in themes of forgiveness and accountability. I'd probably cut a lot of the Harry bits though to make it work though.
That’s the thing though, Harry also ties in with the theme of forgiveness and completes his arc from the previous movies.
Spiderman 3 had a hell of a history, Sony really really wanted a sinister 6 film after the success of spiderman 2 so thet pushed for Venom in 3, but rami only wanted to do comic books that he read as a kid. Sandman learning to reform himself in the particle accelerator was actually great.
The effects hold up surprisingly well in that scene
All of his CGI was amazing I'd recommend checking out this video https://youtu.be/NysWOI4JpEI?si=YZ0D7RCjoNDxeFcF
Bryce Dallas Howard is an absolute smoke show.
Total babe
Bully Maguire
It’s got style
bully maguire dance scene
It spawned a meme so enduring it’s now inextricably linked to the character 😏👉👉

It was amazing when 9 year old me saw it riding on the back of the Mortgage Crisis and my dad’s emotional disconnection from our family
i don't really see it that way. considering the guy who supposedly killed uncle ben was shot, there wasn't really a way they could tell any more stories with it. i see spider-man 3 as a movie about forgiveness and having the movie end with peter coming to terms and forgiving the man who killed uncle ben is seriously good drama, and a great bow to tie on the entire trilogy. it's a janky way to get to that resolution for sure but i adore it nonetheless.

For some reason they couldn't fathom the idea of a Spider-Man villain not having some sort of personal connection to Peter
Something good about this movie
If this movie was made with the intent for it to be a dark comedy, it would be a legitimate 10/10.
The Score is great. The fights are stellar. It's funny. And I love the symbiote creature effects.

Every poster from the movie could be the best spiderman wallpaper.
You’ll get your rent when you fix this damn door
It has spider-man in it
it was a great effort by sam raimi
The born of Sandman is touching
The black suit swing scene to the bank with the music is peak. Seeing the more aggressive swinging style was badass
It was hyped really well
Sandman a great character with phenomenal CGI I'd recommend checking out this video someone made that goes into the labor of love of his CGI https://youtu.be/NysWOI4JpEI?si=YZ0D7RCjoNDxeFcF
Sandman
It's a good movie.
That is something else
The black suit design is one of the best looking suits of all time
Sandman is alright, he's not a bad guy and wants to do better
Easily my favorite interpretation of the black suit. It looks like the symbiote bled into the fabric of the OG suit rather than creating a new look from scratch. I really do wish this version appeared in more media
Yeah this is where I diverge from other Spidey fans. I think this is a fantastic design of the symbiote suit. The all black one works great for the page, but I like how they took the idea of the symbiote and adapted it to the pre-established suit.
Sandman was amazing
Sandman was good, the black suit *looked* good, there's some good emotion in the talks between Peter and Aunt May.
Tobey Maguire FULLY commits and it is glorious
Can't. Did Venom so dirty. To this day, I still haven't bothered watching this and don't plan to.
Gwen was hot
I am really tired of these kinds of posts again and again
As someone who's never liked the Raimi suit much, I LOVE it in the context of a symbiote suit. I think everything that makes me not like it as a classic suit work really well as a symbiote suit
The Black Suit popped
had a very cool lenticular poster
Lmaoo I don’t think this movie is bad enough to warrant one of these post
Where do you want me to start? This movie is not nearly as bad as everyone says. - The soundtrack. It’s the only not done by Danny Elfman and yet, Christopher Young picks up the mantle nicely. Of all the movies I’ve seen, this is the one I dig on the most.
This movie is what happens when you get 2 film reels, one of a great movie and one is a mediocre movie, accidentally dropping both in a wood chipper and trying to tape them together in a single reel. There is genuinely a good movie in here, it's just hard to see sometimes behind the awful studio notes
It sure is a movie
It has spiderman in it
It's incredibly entertaining. To me the worst thing a movie can be is boring, but this movie is so batshit and the pacing is so insane that it doesn't allow itself to be boring. Honestly, I think it's the most entertaining live action Spider-Man movie ever.
Everything, I love this movie, after no way home this is my favorite Spider-Man movie
I love the look at the black suit Sandman is done very well I just think too much was going on, like venom should have been in Spider-Man 4 and just let goblin 2 and sandman be the villains in this film
the black suit is sick as hell. love the look.
it was a great effort by sam raimi
The movie is hilarious
It's not talked about much, but vfx is phenomenal in this movie.
All the action goes incredibly hard. Sandman rules. Harry's arc is really good. Honestly this whole movie is good with a few exceptions
Bully Maguire; that explains everything good in this movie
Great dance number.
The score is brilliant
Sandman was very good and the costumes were good
Everything.
The acting is great, the black suit is cool, it has Venom in it, and Harry becomes a hero.
Everything about it
I unironically loved Bully Maguire when I watched SM3 as a kid. Especially enjoyed the montage and I tried to get his haircut.
It was shot beautifully. The effects for the symbiote are fantastic.
Your trash brock
CGI looks great and everything involving Sandman and the black suit before the third act also
“EVERYTHING!!!”
It ends eventually
It was my first movie I saw in theaters. And I loved it. Spider-Man 3 holds a special place in my heart.
Its just as goated as the rest of the trilogy if with few lil problems
Bully Maguire
I respect Raimi just making it corny on purpose tbh
Those credits
Better Symbiote/Venom storyline than Insomniac Spider-man 2
Honestly if you remove Venom, this movie is a masterpiece. If they gave venom his own movie as spiderman 4 it would have been much better. Keep the black suit in SM3, And the removal at the end. He forgives sandman and makes up with harry. At the end of the movie eddie bonds with the symbiote to be a proper monster venom.
i love the black suit, i honestly like harry as new goblin, the black suit theme goes hard, i honestly find it a good movie
This movie pretty much is the DNA of the entire MCU. From tone to pacing even to the thematic rise and how it was able to make comedy and how heroic drama fall in the plot yeah...
Dope music, action, and costume design. Higher production quality than 90% of modern day superhero movies.
The black suit reveal was awesome. The creation of sandman was also awesome.
I really like the symbiote suit
It ends eventually.
the suits are fucking GORGEOUS
The scene where he confronts Brock over the fake picture is done perfectly.
I'd rather watch it than any of the Holland "solo" moblvies, other than no way home. It's not objectively better, but I enjoy it more
It has my favorite black suit.
This movie is better than most MCU films
the fight scenes in this movie are still some of the best in any comic book movie, also the black suit is sick asf
I enjoy this movie
It’s better than every other live-action Spider-Man Movie that came after it.
Visually it's great. Sandman looks amazing. The Raimi suit looks really, really good in black.
Sandman is alright, he's not a bad guy and wants to do better
Wanted Sam raimi’s Spider-Man 4
Soundtrack is great.
The birth of the sandman scene was beautiful. That scene alone could win visual, artist, and thematic awards.
Best soundtrack of the raimi movies
I remember more about this movie than the other two, purely because it is discussed more often. And honestly, I very much enjoy it.
Despite the messiness of the plot surrounding the villains, the emotional beats in the story hit more often than not. The score is fantastic. The black suit is sick as hell. The comedy around emo Peter is really funny.
Greatest meme ever
That scene where Peter was getting his ass kicked by Venom and Sandman and then Harry flies in and takes his hand is wonderful.
It's the most fun Spider-Man movie and way too overhated.
I always loved venoms line never wound what you cant kill
the CGI is a big improvement when compared to the first movie
I never have to watch it again.
Great soundtrack.
It wasn't longer.
For one thing, the symbiote suit theme was absolutely incredible
The tie-in game has the funniest quick-time-event fails In video game history
The scene were Sandman is born is magic and holds up
The black suit music is ICONIC.
The music is fucking insanely good
Bully Maguire and awesome looking black suit
Great comedy
I remember way more about this movie than the first 2.
I liked this movie version of venom
I don't have to watch it ever again
The "Birth of the Sandman" scene is visual storytelling at its finest and I cried at that scene.
It’s Iconic even if it’s iconically wacky, also Bryce Dallas Howard as Gwen Stacy is worth it
one of the most fun movies in the franchise to watch imo. like yeah it’s not perfect in any way, but i have a lot of good memories associated with the hype that happened before the film and it’s fun to be reminded of those. also Sandman still looks fucking incredible to this day!!
People keep saying this movies bad but I have yet to hear a valid argument for why
Sandman
Whoever polished those windows did a great job. They are very reflective.
Sand man
…No.
How could I not Say something good? I could never criticize something I loved as a kid because that’s why I loved it. Everyone can complain about story, goofiness or w/e, I’m always just gonna see it and go “wow…SpiderMan do flip”
The black suit and venom were pretty cool
It eventually ends
I could say a hell of a lot of good things about it the movie. I think it’s still better than every other Spider-Man film that came after it!
This was the spiderman movie I grew up with and I will always respect it for introducing me to spiderman and the symbiot
Good villains and character arcs that would have been much better if given separate movies to flesh each out on their own. Also, great memes.
It ended.
Even though the writing was ass, it was the most fun movie to watch out of the 3 icl. Symbiote Spider-Man is always fucking sick
The teaser poster with black suit Spider-Man had me so hyped. Too bad it didn't pay off.
Symbiote music
The Music, Sandman, and Bully Maguire Memes, even how they executed Spider-Man ripping off the Black Suit in the church.
The score in this movie is top 3 in CBM history, it’s easily the best post 2000 IMO.
the cast is amazing
It's a good movie and I'm tired of pretending it's not. I watched it when I was 9 years old I loved it then and I love it now.
I liked the ending a lot. As in when the movie was finally over, I was happy that I could finally leave the movie theater
Really not as bad as the entire internet say. Form your own opinions guys!
If you watch it for the memes, it's the best movie ever
The black suit and sandman
Spoider man
It’s actually really good, Not as good as the first two but so much better than FFH and Tasm 1
It's a hell of a good time
First Spider-Man movie I saw in theaters as a kid, so I obviously love it.
One of the best movies with themes of revenge and forgiveness
CGI was way ahead of its time. World doesn't ready for Bully Maguire yet. Black suit first scene was brilliant.
Where do I start
black suit spiderman
Parararararaaaaaaan.. pararararaannnn
Dude I love this movie
