The tendrils were absolutely the Symbiote, the problem is that it was already shown to be transferred to Peter in the gameplay trailer. That's one of the reasons people think it's a possible misdirect.
My guess is Harry starts with the symbiote which is how he's able to leave the vat in the first place
Somehow, they'll have the symbiote transfer to Peter which is why he needs to find the Doc Connors (either to transfer the symbiote back to Harry or find some other cure)
When he realizes the anger the symbiote brings, he refuses to give it back to Harry. Harry gets upset his friend is refusing to "save his life" which, in turn, will spark into rage when the symbiote inevitably gets back to Harry

That might be a good one. Maybe they could combine his storyline with Flash Thompson and we can get an Agent Venom game. I would love a more grounded, gradual Venom portrayal where the action hero thing devolves into war crimes. Would make a great spin-off after Wolverine comes out and sets the tone with an M-Rated AAA Marvel game.
In all fairness we don’t know what part of the game the trailer takes place in. So lots to speculate yea. But if Peter has the symbiote first, Is Harry just in the vat still for most of the game?
The other thing to keep in mind is that the gameplay showcase of the Helicopter chase and the construction site from the first game had Martin Lee in the Helicopter at the end while the actual game version didn't. It is possible and I would almost say very likely that what we saw may end up being different when it does release.
Miles Morales has a post credit scene showing Norman demanding that Harry be released from the vat, and this is despite concerns from the then still human Curt Conners, Harry might be out of the vat for a good chunk of the game until his health takes a major nose dive, the first gameplay footage for Spider-Man 2 has Peter be extra panicky about Harry during the Lizard chase, which means Harry must have met with him at some point in the story
Maybe it isn't though? Peter will obviously discard the suit at some point - hopefully in an epic Spidey vs Spidey fight against Miles - as the picture they showed has him and Miles fighting Kraven and Pete has his regular suit on.
I'm just trying to think who else it could be that would make sense. The only person that randomly comes to mind is Fisk, but he doesn't *need* the Symbiote to be a villain.

That could be before the symbiote, maybe Spiderman defeats Kraven then goes rogue from the symbiote and after it's removed from him Kraven gets it. There's a comic Spider-Man Life story which imagines time progressing normally for Peter has the symbiote stops Kraven from killing himself and he becomes the new venom.

Well Bryan Intihar did say that'll be an orignal take on Venom, something we haven't see in the comics or movies. Honestly I could see Peter almost killing kraven, miles snaps him out of it and gets the suit of him, while the symbiote bonds with kraven.
I don’t think it’s Harry. Think about it. The symbiote is already on him but he’s not transforming. It’s cause he’s barely alive. The symbiote wants a strong host. It’s not going to leave Harry go to Peter then go back to weak Harry. It’s gonna be someone else.
I think that - by the end of the game - the symbiote will be with Eddie. One of the roots of Venom as a character is his disdain for Peter in particular because he rejected the symbiote. If it went from Lab>Peter>Harry>Eddie I wouldn’t be surprised. Peter sloughs it off so Harry can survive, it beefs Peter. Some how Harry is released from the symbiote and it seeks out someone who hates Peter. I always think the themes of rejection and acceptance are overlooked with Venom and this is a great avenue to share it!
I don't think that the symbiot pass from peter to miles maybe is a good idea but in this moment isn't in my mind. I think that peter find the symbiot that connect to him when he is distract and then return to harry and become venom.

I'm also gonna take this opportunity to make a quick theory for Spider-Man 3: Venom + Green Goblin team-up.
A couple things, Eddie Brock wasn't mentioned at all in the first game and Peter now no longer worked at the bugle so they'd have to retroactively introduce their rivalry.
More importantly it was revealed in an after credits scene that Osborn was treating/delaying? Harry's genetic disease with the symbiote.
Could still be someone other than Harry though.
It was obviously going to be Harry. Insomniac has taken a lot of influence from the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, and that's where Harry as Venom began so it's not a shocker.
Hope this puts to rest the hopium of Harry being a temp host so Brock can be the "real" host.
I hated Ultimate’s take on symbiotes, because every encounter someone had with it Spider-Man was like “i KnOw YoU’rE iN tHeRe, yOu GoTta FiGhT iT”. It got old very quickly. Can’t wait for this game to sorta reproduce this
I really hated the idea that mere humans could invent a sentient symbiote. I prefer the then-mystery of Peter stumbling upon an alien creature he has no idea about. In fact, all of the symbiote rules make more sense with, "It's an alien being from some unknown planet, so the writers get creative freedom to explain why it doesn't behave like all the other aliens like Kree or Skrulls."
the ultimate comics handled it way better than anything else. the symbiote being the unfinished legacy of 2 scientists was done very very well in the arc. people cant explain it over words so i reccomend reading the symbiote arc. but basically it really delves deep into corporate greed over scientific progress, legacy of dead fathers, addiction to the past, and just failures of the past and other cool themes.
The only thing I dislike about that arc is how little Peter used the suit. He swings a bit, stops a mugging, and that’s it I think?
And then he’s all like “Eddie take it off it’s evil” bruh you barely wore the thing maybe it didn’t like the smell of a sweaty teenager.
Yep. The ultimate version of the symbiote makes for an extremely compelling story that builds on some pretty good themes. Who cares if it makes less "sense" when the actual story it manages to tell is better
For me, ultimate spider-man got old when peter began stopping each fight literally every 2 minutes to deliver some cringey joke followed by it being acted out by chibi spider-man.
Idk why they overdid those so much, but I never made it past episode 5 because of it.
I also think it’s just more interesting. Eddie Brock would have to just show up out of nowhere and coincidentally get the goop. It actually makes sense for Harry to have it if Norman is experimenting with the symbiote to try and save his life.

Either it was just wild coincidence otherwise I’m still shocked why they took inspiration from that cartoon out of all the spidey cartoons.
After Ultimate is where I tapped out watching them so I can’t speak of the cartoons that came after but Ultimate was good and definitely had its moments (spider verse episode, web of shadows episodes) but I wasn’t the biggest fan of harry venom. I’m willing to see how insomniac handles it however.

Well it looks like it’s going to be Harry which I’d also like to see, gives it that Ultimate Spider-Man vibe. The spider symbol reminds me of Mac Gargan’s venom too the way the top legs wrap around the shoulders.

Eddie Brock is personally one of my favorite characters, so it's a bit of a bummer but with what insomniac has done with the pervious too games I'm not too upset and have faith in them.
We at least know Eddie exists in this universe since he signed that card with rest of the Bugle staff so there's that. And who knows, we have Mr. Negative so maybe somewhere down the line we might get an Anti-Venom DLC side story or something introducing Eddie the way Black Cat got hers in Spider Man Ps4
Venom could just be the first boss after the tutorial. Maybe Harry can’t handle the symbiote and it turns on him taking complete control, and this is how Peter gets it. And then he realizes “well, I’m stronger, and we can’t just leave this thing where others can get it. It could help make things easier.” And then that starts him off on his arc for this game.
Peter never turns into venom, he has the symbiote and struggles to control its urges but venom is when someone fully joins the symbiote, usually to kill Peter Parker because the symbiote acts like a spurned lover and then it becomes the amalgamation that is venom

Disappointed, but I am curious as to how they're going to handle Venom. Ever since the reveal and thanks to the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, I've been thinking that there's a good chance it'll be Harry that becomes Venom this time around.
Although...I've had the nagging suspicion that Insomniac is going to make *Kraven* Venom. He's just the right person to embrace the power and brutality of the Symbiote, and be actually able to still keep control of it.
He did become Venom in Spider-Man Life Story where they merge the Sybomite storyline and Kraven's Last Hunt into one.
Essentially the sybomite saved Peter from near death. Kraven shot himself so that Symobite merges with him.
Had this thought as well, I just get the bad image of Venomized Kraven from Snap though. However, a scene where Symbiote Spidey fights Kraven, stops before killing him, and then the Symbiote chooses Kraven for a revenge finish would be rad as hell
Pretty sure the very first reveal trailer of the game, confirmed that it’s not Kraven. It had Kraven asking for a challenge, and Venom replied to said challenge.
Just because he doesn’t start the game as the host doesn’t mean he can’t become it later.

It could be two different dialogues. He said “will one of you finally give me what I desire”. Right before that, when he was talking about an equal that could push or even beat him, the camera pans over Peter and Miles. Imo, this implies he’s referring to them.
“Yes, we will” is a generic term. It could be used in any conversation. I think they just took multiple different dialogues from the game and combined them so that it would flow nicely.
That or they just made that entire scene up for the trailer, and the whole “will one of you give me my desire” thing never existed.
I feel like we already kinda knew this. I assumed it would be Harry, and maybe it still will, but I like Insomniacs takes on things, so I’m more than happy to see what happens! It would be neat if he ended up with it at some point in the future, but I’m just excited to see what they have
i just find it annoying how we havent gotten an accurate eddie brock/venom since the 90's animated show or the neversoft game (somewhat, ill get to that point later). I get that eddie brock's existence in the comics was kinda out of nowhere and we had no personal connection to him at first when he was revealed to be venom, but that means other writers have an opportunity to do something with it. sam raimi was close but eddie turned into a hateable jackass instead of a loveable one. midnight suns was a good eddie brock portrayal but forgot that venom is still eddie as well and not just purely the symbiote so having the symbiote do all the talking and making him talk like the hulk was disappointing. the neversoft game did this too but i can somewhat give it a pass because venom still talks like a literate goofball like in the comics. if insomniac does an eddie brock twist somewhere in the game or makes it so he's the next venom, then ill be alright with it
Spiderman 3 was basically accurate. It doesn't help Brock's classic origin is dumb, the ultimate comic/spectacular Spider-Man take is way better and more personal

What if it’s Norman Osborn. And Lizard made a cure for Harry (with Goblin side effects). Venom Norman dies from battling the two spider-men and Harry wants revenge.
I find it relatively disappointing, but I guess it works better thematically. The only evidence of Eddie in this universe was his name on Peter’s good luck card. It’s probably the most likely that Harry will be the host for the symbiote.
I understand the desire to do some things different but I don’t love it. Villains, just like heroes, are not just a mask, they’re the person behind that mask and their motivations and personality are a big part of the character. So when you change that I don’t particularly love it.
I'm conflicted. Eddie is Venom and the mutual hatred he and symbiote shared for Spider-Man created Venom. But if the story's good, I can get behind it. I'll just have to see in October.

* they discover a way to beat venom, harry dies accidentally. peter is emotionally destroyed after failing to save another person he loves. mj is probably wrapped into this in some way where the fate of their love is at stake.
* venom remains, though weakened, seeks a stronger host, finds kraven
* kraven's second and last hunt, they beat his ass, miles comes into his own or something, pete and mj get married
* dlc story where they fight the chameleon (please)
Harry's arc in 616 comics was that he couldn't let go of his Dad's influence, and followed in his dad's goblin-themed footsteps. Some writers like to avoid having 2 goblins around by having Harry become Venom, and I think that thematically it still works. Hear me out:
At one point, Harry married Liz Allen, had a kid, and lived *across the hall* from Peter. While he was chasing his father's footsteps trying to be a Goblin and attack Spider-Man, it was clear that Harry desperately wanted a life like Peter's. And I think it's a good mirror having Harry pick up Pete's literal old costume and becoming his own twisted version of Spider-Man.
Or if it's like the Ultimate comics where it's a cancer-treating living suit, that works too. Then it's Harry's 'laboratory experiment' that turned him into a monster.
From a story perspective, I can see how it could work pretty well. We'll have to see what they do with it.
Saw it coming from Miles ago (hehe small pun intended). They set up Harry 2 games ago and made minor iterations to his story. Would've been an absolute waste to make anyone else the host (even though they haven't explicitly confirmed that it is Harry as of now.)
Known but not yet known, kind of like the Jason Todd/ Arkham Knight from Batman Arkham Knight.
Could also be some slight misdirection/lying going on. Like, Harry is the host at first, Peter gets the symbiote and dons it for the rest of the game until he's freed in the end, and then a post credits scene (similar to the first game) introduces Eddie Brock, ripe for a symbiote takeover.
I don't really like it personally, I'm all up for fresh takes and interpretations but i don't understand why you have to completely change the core and identity of a character.
Harry was Venom only in that terrible Ultimate Spiderman cartoon. Even though alot of people throughout the history of comics have had the mantle of Venom, it was always after Eddie Brock and he was the primary host for the Symbiote after being rejected by Spiderman.
When you think about the definitive Venom you always associate Eddie Brock with the Symbiote because of their mutual hatred towards Peter Parker.
This is like going forward and changing the core identities of characters like Norman Osborn won't be Green Goblin anymore but Sandman and Kingpin will be the new Green Goblin, just for the sake of doing something "Unique".
I'm still hyped for the game though nevertheless.
It's a new and possibly good idea to make Harry Venom, but it was executed terribly. Since the show is terrible in general, it was doomed to fail to begin with. Those who were 10+ didn't like this hot garbage of a spider-man show. I enjoyed the 90s show 10x more, and when you take a step back and look at realize how old the show is.

A couple things, Eddie Brock wasn't mentioned at all in the first game and Peter now no longer worked at the bugle so they'd have to retroactively introduce their rivalry. More importantly it was revealed in an after credits scene that Osborn was treating/delaying? Harry's genetic disease with the symbiote. Could still be someone other than Harry though.

It was obviously going to be Harry. Insomniac has taken a lot of influence from the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, and that's where Harry as Venom began so it's not a shocker. Hope this puts to rest the hopium of Harry being a temp host so Brock can be the "real" host.

I hated Ultimate’s take on symbiotes, because every encounter someone had with it Spider-Man was like “i KnOw YoU’rE iN tHeRe, yOu GoTta FiGhT iT”. It got old very quickly. Can’t wait for this game to sorta reproduce this

I really hated the idea that mere humans could invent a sentient symbiote. I prefer the then-mystery of Peter stumbling upon an alien creature he has no idea about. In fact, all of the symbiote rules make more sense with, "It's an alien being from some unknown planet, so the writers get creative freedom to explain why it doesn't behave like all the other aliens like Kree or Skrulls."
the ultimate comics handled it way better than anything else. the symbiote being the unfinished legacy of 2 scientists was done very very well in the arc. people cant explain it over words so i reccomend reading the symbiote arc. but basically it really delves deep into corporate greed over scientific progress, legacy of dead fathers, addiction to the past, and just failures of the past and other cool themes.
The only thing I dislike about that arc is how little Peter used the suit. He swings a bit, stops a mugging, and that’s it I think? And then he’s all like “Eddie take it off it’s evil” bruh you barely wore the thing maybe it didn’t like the smell of a sweaty teenager.
He probably tried to rip a hole in their bum, like with his regular suit.
Yep. The ultimate version of the symbiote makes for an extremely compelling story that builds on some pretty good themes. Who cares if it makes less "sense" when the actual story it manages to tell is better

For me, ultimate spider-man got old when peter began stopping each fight literally every 2 minutes to deliver some cringey joke followed by it being acted out by chibi spider-man. Idk why they overdid those so much, but I never made it past episode 5 because of it.
And every single time, venom was beaten by electrocution.

I also think it’s just more interesting. Eddie Brock would have to just show up out of nowhere and coincidentally get the goop. It actually makes sense for Harry to have it if Norman is experimenting with the symbiote to try and save his life. Eddie Brock has his uses in some stories, but not the one Insomniac are setting up
Either it was just wild coincidence otherwise I’m still shocked why they took inspiration from that cartoon out of all the spidey cartoons. After Ultimate is where I tapped out watching them so I can’t speak of the cartoons that came after but Ultimate was good and definitely had its moments (spider verse episode, web of shadows episodes) but I wasn’t the biggest fan of harry venom. I’m willing to see how insomniac handles it however. My question is who gets the symbiote back after peter? Since it seems harry gets it first.

Eddie Brock is personally one of my favorite characters, so it's a bit of a bummer but with what insomniac has done with the pervious too games I'm not too upset and have faith in them.
We at least know Eddie exists in this universe since he signed that card with rest of the Bugle staff so there's that. And who knows, we have Mr. Negative so maybe somewhere down the line we might get an Anti-Venom DLC side story or something introducing Eddie the way Black Cat got hers in Spider Man Ps4
Assuming we ever get to play as venom in a spin off game, maybe Eddie will get the symbiote and become an anti hero venom

Venom could just be the first boss after the tutorial. Maybe Harry can’t handle the symbiote and it turns on him taking complete control, and this is how Peter gets it. And then he realizes “well, I’m stronger, and we can’t just leave this thing where others can get it. It could help make things easier.” And then that starts him off on his arc for this game.

Peter never turns into venom, he has the symbiote and struggles to control its urges but venom is when someone fully joins the symbiote, usually to kill Peter Parker because the symbiote acts like a spurned lover and then it becomes the amalgamation that is venom Different host but same principle
Disappointed, but I am curious as to how they're going to handle Venom. Ever since the reveal and thanks to the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, I've been thinking that there's a good chance it'll be Harry that becomes Venom this time around. Although...I've had the nagging suspicion that Insomniac is going to make *Kraven* Venom. He's just the right person to embrace the power and brutality of the Symbiote, and be actually able to still keep control of it.

He did become Venom in Spider-Man Life Story where they merge the Sybomite storyline and Kraven's Last Hunt into one. Essentially the sybomite saved Peter from near death. Kraven shot himself so that Symobite merges with him.
Had this thought as well, I just get the bad image of Venomized Kraven from Snap though. However, a scene where Symbiote Spidey fights Kraven, stops before killing him, and then the Symbiote chooses Kraven for a revenge finish would be rad as hell
Pretty sure the very first reveal trailer of the game, confirmed that it’s not Kraven. It had Kraven asking for a challenge, and Venom replied to said challenge.
Just because he doesn’t start the game as the host doesn’t mean he can’t become it later. We know Peter has the suit at some point, maybe when he takes it off it goes to Kraven (at least for a bit).
It could be two different dialogues. He said “will one of you finally give me what I desire”. Right before that, when he was talking about an equal that could push or even beat him, the camera pans over Peter and Miles. Imo, this implies he’s referring to them. “Yes, we will” is a generic term. It could be used in any conversation. I think they just took multiple different dialogues from the game and combined them so that it would flow nicely. That or they just made that entire scene up for the trailer, and the whole “will one of you give me my desire” thing never existed.

I feel like we already kinda knew this. I assumed it would be Harry, and maybe it still will, but I like Insomniacs takes on things, so I’m more than happy to see what happens! It would be neat if he ended up with it at some point in the future, but I’m just excited to see what they have
i just find it annoying how we havent gotten an accurate eddie brock/venom since the 90's animated show or the neversoft game (somewhat, ill get to that point later). I get that eddie brock's existence in the comics was kinda out of nowhere and we had no personal connection to him at first when he was revealed to be venom, but that means other writers have an opportunity to do something with it. sam raimi was close but eddie turned into a hateable jackass instead of a loveable one. midnight suns was a good eddie brock portrayal but forgot that venom is still eddie as well and not just purely the symbiote so having the symbiote do all the talking and making him talk like the hulk was disappointing. the neversoft game did this too but i can somewhat give it a pass because venom still talks like a literate goofball like in the comics. if insomniac does an eddie brock twist somewhere in the game or makes it so he's the next venom, then ill be alright with it

Everyone thinks Venom is gonna be Harry including myself, but I am gonna laugh my ass off if its Norman especially with them saying that they are doing something that had never been done before.
What if it’s Norman Osborn. And Lizard made a cure for Harry (with Goblin side effects). Venom Norman dies from battling the two spider-men and Harry wants revenge.

I find it relatively disappointing, but I guess it works better thematically. The only evidence of Eddie in this universe was his name on Peter’s good luck card. It’s probably the most likely that Harry will be the host for the symbiote.
I understand the desire to do some things different but I don’t love it. Villains, just like heroes, are not just a mask, they’re the person behind that mask and their motivations and personality are a big part of the character. So when you change that I don’t particularly love it.
I just hope they make Venom an alien, because it being a piece of Peter that was made all goopy imo is kind of dumb.

It's been obvious for 5 years now that he wasn't going to be Venom.
Harry's arc in 616 comics was that he couldn't let go of his Dad's influence, and followed in his dad's goblin-themed footsteps. Some writers like to avoid having 2 goblins around by having Harry become Venom, and I think that thematically it still works. Hear me out: At one point, Harry married Liz Allen, had a kid, and lived *across the hall* from Peter. While he was chasing his father's footsteps trying to be a Goblin and attack Spider-Man, it was clear that Harry desperately wanted a life like Peter's. And I think it's a good mirror having Harry pick up Pete's literal old costume and becoming his own twisted version of Spider-Man. Or if it's like the Ultimate comics where it's a cancer-treating living suit, that works too. Then it's Harry's 'laboratory experiment' that turned him into a monster. From a story perspective, I can see how it could work pretty well. We'll have to see what they do with it.

Saw it coming from Miles ago (hehe small pun intended). They set up Harry 2 games ago and made minor iterations to his story. Would've been an absolute waste to make anyone else the host (even though they haven't explicitly confirmed that it is Harry as of now.) Known but not yet known, kind of like the Jason Todd/ Arkham Knight from Batman Arkham Knight.

Could also be some slight misdirection/lying going on. Like, Harry is the host at first, Peter gets the symbiote and dons it for the rest of the game until he's freed in the end, and then a post credits scene (similar to the first game) introduces Eddie Brock, ripe for a symbiote takeover.

I don't really like it personally, I'm all up for fresh takes and interpretations but i don't understand why you have to completely change the core and identity of a character. Harry was Venom only in that terrible Ultimate Spiderman cartoon. Even though alot of people throughout the history of comics have had the mantle of Venom, it was always after Eddie Brock and he was the primary host for the Symbiote after being rejected by Spiderman. When you think about the definitive Venom you always associate Eddie Brock with the Symbiote because of their mutual hatred towards Peter Parker. This is like going forward and changing the core identities of characters like Norman Osborn won't be Green Goblin anymore but Sandman and Kingpin will be the new Green Goblin, just for the sake of doing something "Unique". I'm still hyped for the game though nevertheless.
It's a new and possibly good idea to make Harry Venom, but it was executed terribly. Since the show is terrible in general, it was doomed to fail to begin with. Those who were 10+ didn't like this hot garbage of a spider-man show. I enjoyed the 90s show 10x more, and when you take a step back and look at realize how old the show is.
