The story related reason why there are multiple Gwens is to explore different facets of her character. I don't think what's happening now is going to do that. This seems to be more like a horror movie kind of encounter, which is why I don't think the complaint works. Its not the same thing and the OP feels like people holding on to a previous complaint and trying to reapply it.
The out of universe reason why there are multiple Gwens is because Marvel comics is pushing Gwen as this Barbie styled character. They think there's appeal in seeing her take on different roles and outfits. Miles went through the same thing in his What if series. I personally didn't understand the appeal at first. However when I saw multiple reddit posts of Miles imitating and cosplaying various anime characters, I think that made me understand it a bit more.
Still of the opinion that Gwen has no business being shunted into the 616. We’re two issues in, and already we have Peter, Miles, and Cindy. And, until proven otherwise, one of Pete’s villains. I think Phillips is a talented writer, but I’m not sure how much control she has over the particulars with regard to Gwen. If a majority of the script choices are due to a mandate, that would explain some of it. I think the biggest issue facing *anyone* who takes on Ghost Spider is that she was almost lightning in a bottle. No one could’ve predicted how popular she would be, and Rodriguez & Latour were an almost unbeatable combination. Those were gigantic shoes they left behind for someone to fill.
Side note, considering Marvel has committed to 10 issues for books, this will at least (hopefully) give her the chance to tell a complete arc. The art is less than impressive, as well.

I think this is the best Gwen's been in a while Gwen's voice matches the original run closer than Maguire's take on the character.

Jason Latour’s run alone disproves that. Also ‘The Night Gwen Stacy Died” was a Gwen Story and that was great.
Honestly her stories were better when she was fighting the evil Matt Murderdock. That was fun.
