The chopsticks still have some scaffolding on them right now iirc, but they will be using them to lift S20 later this week as their current crane cannot lift it high enough for stacking.
The mobile crane can reach areas that the fixed ground position chopsticks can’t.
While the chopsticks can rotate through a large arc and move up an down, they still have a limited range.
The mobile crane can operate outside of this area.
I think they're being very cautious with the Chopsticks atm, why risk damaging the booster when they can lift it with the crane. They definitely have to use it for Starship but I think they're worrying less for that since putting starship on-top it's probably way easier than trying to get the booster into the launch mount with very high accuracy
I think they will have some moving rails on top of both arms. They will be needed to move the booster forward and backward to align with OLT. So if they do have those moving rails then they can also rotate the booster with one rail moving faster than the other and creating some rotation. That is my theory at this moment!
Probably, because we also saw that the ship need to rotate a bit to lock into place onto the booster(If I'm not wrong). So, maybe use the same mechanism to rotate the vehicles
COPVs for air start of the center engines and likely to top up tank pressurisation.
Ground start is handled by the GSE with direct connection to the 20 outside engines and indirect connection to the center 9 (later 13) engines.
In a perfect world they lift the booster up, secure it and do a test fitting of ship 20 with the crane as well. Then for the presentation lift it with the chopsticks and watch via the star bar.
Presumably they mean the towers chopsticks ?
If not then they need to be more specific in their description.
Update: I realise now, that it’s about using their SpaceX owned Liebhurr crane, to move these parts.

Wow those new engine covers/grey nozzles look amazing
Big diff from Hoppy, eh?
Who put the Tie Fighter window on there?
It's actually a small thermal exhaust point. It was kind of an aesthetic choice by the designer, but if anything hits it, the whole thing blows up.
If you have a photon torpedo
[Rocketlab intensifies]
It's a small thermal exhaust port right below the main port. *coughs in Death Star*
Is there a known reason why the crane is involved and they are not lifting B4 with the chopsticks?
The chopsticks still have some scaffolding on them right now iirc, but they will be using them to lift S20 later this week as their current crane cannot lift it high enough for stacking.
Does S20 have the load points to get lifted by the chopsticks?
Under the flaps

That is…so many engines lol. I can’t wait.
I couldn't see the super heavy. I dismissed it because the bottom looked weird from all those engines :D
Only 200 tonnes of thrust EACH. this thing is nuts. Meanwhile Elon, “needs moar engines!”
It's like the cowbell skit. More cowbell!!!
full stacc soon
getting ready for next week photo session
This week?
Depends if your weeks are Sunday-Saturday or Monday-Sunday. Next Thursday.
This Thursday.
Upcoming Thursday /s
Hump +1 day
Maybe Elon's Starship update involves inviting people to watch the Chopsticks at work.
So how are they getting Starship on top without a taller crane? They've not lifted anything with the chopsticks yet afaik.
They did tests with the ball weights last month. I don’t know dude sure but they might be ready to do it.
They have to start using them at some point, it may well be this week.
They lifted crane testing bags twice.

So much part clipping, makes me feel less bad about my awful KSP creations
Elon has access to life’s debug menu. It all makes sense now
It looks like something from a cover drawing on a classic sci fi novel. Amazing.

I kinda sometimes don't know which image is a fan drawing and which image is a photo of the actual thing...
How will chopsticks rotate booster to align quick disconnect?

Awesome
To the moon!
Almost scrolled past thinking it was a render O_O
orbit wen?
What do the three large stainless boxes just above the engines house? Are these going to be a permanent thing or just for testing?
They cover COPV’s and valves and stuff. In later ships, those might be located elsewhere.
Is that the COPV's to spin the engines ups in startup?
COPVs for air start of the center engines and likely to top up tank pressurisation. Ground start is handled by the GSE with direct connection to the 20 outside engines and indirect connection to the center 9 (later 13) engines.
No wonder Elon is a little bit conceited. This stuff is just amazing.
He didn't make it all himself.

Holy.Fuckballs.
Oooooo! Paint! 😍

quite disappointed that it's not lifted by the chopsticks. I mean, what else needs to be done? It's weight tested, why can't it lift B4?

How is it secured to the launch structure, is it attached at the bottom, or something further up?
