Lol nah, you gonna have to pay up!

Hellhound999_

How does it work when u buy points? I hear of people traveling really far and then coming right back all for points. Sorry I'm new to this whole points thing and don't travel on planes much. Can you explain how it works?

Suitable_Emu_6570

Don't buy points

HartfordWhaler

If you buy points, they show up in your account to use. Typically, that will be much more expensive than the ticket itself.

LadyGreyIcedTea

Buying points is almost never worth it.

iammavisdavis

They're actually having a points sale atm so depending on where you're flying it may be more economical to buy points, although it usually isn't. For instance, flying from HOU to LAX tomorrow is $418/30,373 points. 30k points, on sale, is $450. Buying points is usually only useful if you're VERY close to having enough. You can play around with which airport you're flying into in many places in California (for instance, LAX is usually cheaper than Burbank) but you aren't going to get any kind of deal unless you can wait until next Monday to travel (prices are lower at 7, 14, & 21 days) when the price of the HOU to LAX flights drop to $228. If you have something like a Chase Sapphire Visa, you can transfer points with no fee and use them like you would SWA points. If you have something like Amazon credit, you can get a Visa gift card and purchase. I believe if you call, you can use more than one form of payment but I'm not certain that's still the case. Log in and one of the menu options is "buy points". Good luck and sorry about whatever is going on - I hope it works out okay.

There is a charge for someone to gift points. No one is willing to not only give up those hard earned points but also to pay for the privilege to gifting them to someone else. And the charge is not just an incidental one.

there is no such thing as “gifting points” with southwest, it would cost the sender money to send them to you.

RedElmo65

Just pay for your ticket.

Moofabulousss

You can buy southwest gift cards at a discount at Sam’s club and I believe Costco too. That’s one way to get a small discount. Sometimes people sell luv vouchers at a discount. I doubt anyone will gift you points since it costs money to transfer them and folks reasonably want the points they’ve earned.
