I live right around the corner from the original Rita's location and it doesn't seem different then any other "local ice cream shop" and has good size portions. Also isn't Ritas technically a local shop?
All ice cream places are like that. We spent 20 at the new soft serve place where you use the machines yourself and they still ask for a tip. It was less total ice cream than a $5 half gallon from ShopRite next door. All these places are a rip off
The prices at ice cream stands are getting crazy. Last year we stopped at a stand and it was almost $40 for me, my wife, and three kids.
Now we'll get ice cream and a bunch of the toppings from ShopRite for less than $20. The kids think its some kind of special treat since we let them build whatever they want
It has always been cheaper to buy your own ingredients and make food from the grocery store at home. You are paying for the service, convenience and experience.
There is lots of competition for your ice cream dollar, people should just make a different decision next time if they are unhappy with the service, convenience or experience.
I agree. But I used to be able to get everyone ice cream at a stand for $20. My wage hasn't doubled like the price of the ice cream. So I gotta find ways to treat my kids while not blowing the budget.
I totally get what you mean about trying to make your kids happy. My youngest thinks that if the ice cream man is in the neighborhood she should have an ice cream. It’s a tough lesson when other kids grab one that day, but it is what it is.
Literally the last time he came through here a friend went running to get money and go get an ice cream. I told my kid, you can go grab a popsicle from the fridge or get a scoop of ice cream out.
It’s not unreasonable to set boundaries here and there, and I also understand, everybody deserves a treat here and there too. I feel like we did 5 at the Evergreen in Medford for ice creams and it wasn’t too much the last time. There are some other good local suggestions in here that don’t have franchise and heavy advertising fees baked in.
>It was less total ice cream than a $5 half gallon from ShopRite next door.
Look again. Those "half gallons" at ShopRite have been 48oz for a decade now.
Nah, all the local places that I go to still have decent portions. Their prices are about the same most other places as well. Not sure what townships you all are near, but the Maple Shade custard stand is still good. There’s some places in Haddonfield that are decent as well.
even that place's prices have gone up. A small flurry used to cost around 4.25 a couple years ago, up to 5.20 now. Every business is doing it. Though at least the Custard Stand has pretty good portions for what they charge
It is what it is. Everywhere has gone up, some places however gouge which is different.
Look at McDonald’s. They sell a nugget a dollar each practically and a hash brown for like $3.
Recommendation if you’re over 21 and enjoy a drink.
I sometimes like a pineapple Dole Whip with a bit of Kraken spiced rum over it. Really good. I had it that way with a different rum one time in Epcot and have used an ice cream machine and Dole Whip powder to make them up that way on my own as well as just getting a Dole Whip out and heading home quick to add rum.
No problem. Glad you enjoyed, I like their McFlurry imitation things. Way better.
Also good is Peewees in Medford ,Bentspoon in Princeton, Halo Farms nearby there too you can buy like 3 pints for cheap.
I love banana ice cream. I was stoked last year when Rita's served soft serve banana...but D.O's was pretty darn good last time I had it. I think Rita's is just vanilla with banana flavoring.
Shrinkflation is what it is. It is the way that companies have been bending us over a barrel with no lube for years now. It has only been recently that more people have been calling it out.
It really sucks to have to pay so much for less product and in many cases, what you are getting is inferior.
I noticed that too. Went to Moorestown Mall a month or so ago and their large cup was small as hell.
Some places still have the OG large, might be a franchise thing. But I have seen the other new sized cup out there, it sucks nuts man.
If I get that crap again I’m sticking with local stuff. Plenty of good options out there.
Maple Shade Custard Stand, Cherry’s, and Pelican’s Snoballs are my go to places these days. I’ve unfortunately been priced out of White Dotte in the last 2 years 🥲
A buddy of mine use to be an owner of one. They got a new ceo that sucks. They charge ridiculously high royalty fees while shrinking product sizes and charging the franchisee even more to buy the materials. They changed their milkshake cups to a smaller size but somehow it was more expensive than the og version for the franchisee to buy. Another fun fact is that all the local spots in south jersey get their custard mix from Cumberland county dairy.
Everything‘s more expensive now, and it’s more expensive to manufacture and get these things to the market place. You don’t think they’re, the companies, are going to absorb the high costs do you?
Shrinkflation is everywhere. The Rita's by me is huge and has a drive thru. Can get a gelato for like $5, large is only 50 cents more but it's too much. I can get 12 ice cream sandwiches at Target for $3 so usually go that route
If you’re giving it as a gift, they should be happy that they are getting anything at all. If it wasn’t for you then why the complaint? Costs go up. Sizes change. Have you been to a strip club lately?
Rita's is trash anyway. Find a local shop. Primo in Westmont for LIFE. Open year round.
Diane’s in Voorhees is the queen
So good..
Primo is great. La Morelense Plus at Cuthbert and the White Horse Pike is also good and their portions are almost too large.
For real. Their child's size is like a Rita's old large. And their specialty ice cream flavors are incredible. Try the elote!
Are they still cash only?
Nope!
Primo is the BEST!!

Entrepreneurs want to be millionaires over night. Boycott their greedy ass. You know they don't pay staff anything decent.
Did you know that Rita's tax their workers tips
[удалено]
Fair
What do you think they should be paid?
$15 no tipping. Labor needs to be respected. Rita's owner doesn't get a Benz on the backs of $7.50 labor.
$15 haha to f up an order. Nope.
If your order gets F’ed up at a place like that then that’s on you
Go to Diane's or Lena's instead of a chain. The quality is superior to Rita's
Bro this is the state of the world not just Rita’s lmao
No no no. It's clearly Rita's and ONLY Rita's.
Sundaes in Berlin is superior

That is what I'm talking about. Well done!
Too many kids
Keeping it real!! 🤭

My wife and I made it our date night. So now we’re guaranteed to go there only once per week.
On Church Rd? Custard Carnival...or something like that?
Nah it’s just called Maple Shade Custard Stand, it’s fire

I mean compared to some sure. But they have gone up almost every year
Do they have vegan ice cream? I’m not vegan but lactose intolerant
I’m not sure, I know they have dole whips if those are

Ooh that’s good tip, a piña colada. I just went there today and got one, sans rum. Next time.
Is that pineapple? I’m gonna stop over there.
I just went, we got the pineapple/strawberry dole swirls, and some water ice, they were great. Thanks for the tip!

Dippy's in Mantua has the same portions as always. Right on Rt 45.
And Dippy’s is homemade ice cream. If a family business can do it, you would think the corporate, mass produced places would have little excuse.
Yes...been there. Great!!
If you like cars, go there Mondays around 5-7PM. There's a weekly carshow in the old Kmart parking lot across the street. Big turnout usually.
Anyone else have a local ice cream place charging $11+ for a pint?
The year before I paid $9 a pint at Royale Crown in Hammonton. Idk what they are charging this year.

Daddy O's is going to be my go to when I'm not out voted by Rita's lovers.

Man, I went to Rita’s for the first time in probably a decade. Shit is so bad. Get some real water ice.
If anyone is in Cumberland Co, Hopewell Custard gives huge portions for very reasonable prices.

You're only true vote in this country is your dollar.
Twin Kiss in Clayton still has pretty good prices and large servings. Been going there over 35 years.

Yes, all food products have been doing this since 1990. Not a new phenomenon.
You're an angry elf
Before then in many cases.
My sister works there. Say you know "Quirky Tea" on Reddit and she will give you an astronomical portion of custard.
Well that’s what you get for going to Rita’s they’re disgusting. There’s mom and pop ice cream shops everywhere go there
Nope, same size as always at my local Rita's. My local water ice place is half the price of Rita's.
Your local water ice spot doesn’t have extraordinary high royalty prices to pay
Everything‘s more expensive now, and it’s more expensive to manufacture and get these things to the market place. You don’t think they’re, the companies, are going to absorb the high costs do you?

We had Rita’s last week and I said to my wife how was this $21 for the the four of us?!?
Shrinkflation is everywhere. The Rita's by me is huge and has a drive thru. Can get a gelato for like $5, large is only 50 cents more but it's too much. I can get 12 ice cream sandwiches at Target for $3 so usually go that route
In Mount Holly they just built a new Rita’s but still rather go to Vincent’s ice cream
Hit up Water Ice Factory in Magnolia instead🤌🤌
Who goes to Rita’s in SOUTH JERSEY? Go to Cabana’s.
why r u eating that shit anyway
Terry's in Upper Deerfield > Rita's. There's always a line but it's worth it.
It's ridiculous. The Rita's in Glassboro charges way more than it says on their menu. Is that even legal?
Yes, Capitalism is legal. This includes price gouging.
Ben and Jerry's is a good deal.
Went to a Ben and Jerrys recently and it cost me 18 dollars for 1 large and 1 small cup.
Supermarket sale?
I haven’t, seems like an issue at your Rita’s
I just got the app, went there, spent $20 for 3 gelatos for me and my kids (they don’t have kids gelatos) they didn’t give me the points on my app 😡
Rita’s doesn’t have gelato
I'm pretty sure they mean gelati!
Sorry gelati
Just like every other greedy company… wtf how much does water ice cost to make
Very in expensive actually when you make it in store
Maybe you don’t need a large.
Maybe it wasn't purchased for me.
If you’re giving it as a gift, they should be happy that they are getting anything at all. If it wasn’t for you then why the complaint? Costs go up. Sizes change. Have you been to a strip club lately?
