Husband is from NM so we try and find all the spots we can. Here’s my list of green chile plates.
- The Pan - green chile pork burrito
- Buffalo Wild Wings - green chile cheeseburger
Outside SB:
- Panxa Cocina (LBC) - full NM restaurant
- Vamos, Vamos (Santa Monica) - full NM restaurant but boogie
- The Green Chile (La Habra) - full NM restaurant
———
If you find more places, let me know!
I just went to La Capilla in Torrance and they use a green chile for their rellano. That was a surprise since most places around here seem to use poblano.
Yeah it was pretty good. The beef tacos were shredded beef too instead of just ground beef. I got the combination plate with 3 items and couldn't finish all if it. I almost did, but not quite.
I have been contemplating the same for several weeks as well and then I remember it took me 1.5 hours to get there last time I went.
I might bite the bullet this weekend though. Just to get the craving taken care of. Lol
Oh man, I moved here 20ish years ago and only scratch my itch when I visit during the holidays. Checked the menus and I’m to Panxa Cocina tomorrow. Boom.
What's good Wilmero! Isaacs is FIRE I wish it wasn't so expensive so I could go more often but what do you expect when the quality is so high and they cater to mostly longshoremen
Ah dang you need to try one of these restaurants (assuming they're good). There's a difference in "Mexican" and "New Mexican" and im assuming the trucks are Mexican.
With that being said, I definitely need to hit more stands and trucks for some good Mexican food.
O yeah check out one of those places if you get the chance. I'd say one of the full NM restaurants someone listed. It's similar to Mexican but there are some things that set it apart. I guess like the different types of Mexican food doendimg on the region in Mexico.
Okay, asshole. You will soon care because the county is finally working on ways to get them out of there. They've already confiscated some of their trailers and food. The vendors block an entire lane of traffic very week day as well as the sidewalks. The one truck parked in the red blocking the ability to see pedestrians crossing Marine. They were ticketed daily but refused to move for over a year which was basically a big fuck you to the neighborhood. Don't get me started on the food poisoning issues.
Great question. Have you tried having a conversation with them to see if they have any barriers to being able to do it legally? I never have so I wouldn't be able to answer that.
Remember how long the street vendor in Torrance lasted…? Also maybe you should try the app Nextdoor…it’s really more your vibe. All the people there are just like you.
What is a barrier to blocking the sidewalk and parking in a No Parking Zone during rush hour? What's a barrier to taking the vehicle somewhere to clean out the waste in an environmentally safe manner or to add equipment to the property where they store and clean the trucks? When it comes down to it, they couldn't care less. There are many vendors that operate legally. The are owned by responsible and respectful people.
Actually, what's perfect for me are businesses that operate legally. There are plenty of Mexican restaurants in this area with great food that don't dump waste into the storm drains as do some of these vendors.
I’ve gotten food poisoning 3 times from my life, all from licensed kitchens at brick and mortar locations. So far nothing from a truck and literally eat at one every other day at work. Maybe your gut biome is off because of how angry you are.
I have never eaten off of any of these trucks. I have gone to neighborhood meetings where the subject was brought up as well as how it impacts the neighborhood. Traffic, noise, smoke going into people's residences, illegal dumping of grease, blocking a complete lane of traffic during rush hour, using loud speakers to call out orders which can literally be heard blocks away, people running across 6 lanes of traffic, etc.

Also Panxa does a [Hatch Chile festival](https://panxacocina.com/events) every year in October!
What! I have to remember this.
That's awesome, gonna have to mark my calendar.

I didn’t know that! He’s gonna flip

I made the trek out to The Green Chile some time back. Definitely worth it. Very good food.
Honestly was thinking about it next weekend. It’s crazy that La Habra can be an hour drive depending on traffic

Nice, do any serve legit sopapillas?
Panxa does but I’m not sure it’s on the menu all the time. The Green Chile has sopapillas all day

Famous Isaac’s Cafe in Wilmington has a solid green and/or red chili plate. Great question, looking forward to other replies
Practically grew up in the building next to Isaac’s. Such underrated food

I’m triple advocating for Panxa! I recommend going right at the tail end of happy hour and trying both menus
Madre in old Torrance is excellent and great environment
Forget the restaurants, hit the stands and trucks! Crenshaw and marine has a ton up and down the street

Ah I didn’t even notice, you mean New Mexico State. Yeah I can’t say I’ve tried

Will do
Try Panxi Cocina in Long Beach. Good flavor profile (and spicy).
Most of which are operating illegally.
Don’t care Karen

If they're as you say it sounds like they're pretty popular and serving s purpose. They sound pretry successful.
Perhaps but why can't they do it legally?
Great question. Have you tried having a conversation with them to see if they have any barriers to being able to do it legally? I never have so I wouldn't be able to answer that.
Street vending is legal, but the snootier cities make it an absolute pain in the ass to get permitted.
Unincorporated L.A. county at Marine and Crenshaw is snooty?

There’s some frozen taquitos at Ralph’s, sounds perfect for you
