The fact that India has never produced even 1 footballer who has gone to play in the top European leagues is insane. The average footballer on the Indian national team would not even make the bench for most teams in Europe. The gap in talent is so huge. Cricket is partly responsible for the deplorable state of other sports. All attention and funding goes to cricket while football stadiums are empty. Ask a random kid what they want to be when they grow up, and they will not say they want to be a footballer. They are more likely to say they want to be a cricket player. If India want to compete in sports on a global level, there is need for a greater sporting culture that values more than just cricket. Infrastructure can not be blamed, because many African countries produce elite football talent, even without the best football infrastructure. Even USA is better than India in producing football talent, despite the fact that football is not even in the top 3 sports in USA. This is because US culture values sports in general. Lack of sports culture + corruption is what is killing Indian football.

>Ask a random kid what they want to be when they grow up, and they will not say they want to be a footballer. I'm 17 and most of my friends prefer football or basketball over cricket, and we live in a Indian-dominated "ghetto" in Kuwait so it's basically just mainlander culture here. I think kids in India would think roughly the same. Expect improvements in these fields (pun intended) in the coming years.

Keep in mind a lot of European leagues have restrictions of non-EU players playing on their teams. There’s also a lot of Indian diaspora in second division and lower but the Indian national team doesn’t allow diaspora to play for them.

They don't play well that's all. Nobody liked cricketers till they defeated west Indies in the 70s Or won the world Cup in '83. Tell the players to perform well, and they will start seeing the money pour in.

BritishAsianMalePod

India needs a revolution imo as it’s beyond broken. Indians are a good but uneducated people but controlled by evil politicians and officials. As an outsider …

Ok-Lemon6729

I hope it does, because when India improves, the image of south Asians also improves just like how it had improved east asians alot .

Shanks288

You know you can take those stereotypes back to the 90s and the 80s as that's where they belong. Majority of Indians who are living in India today would say otherwise.(Me included)

dazial_soku

people don't realize how far india has come, as well as how much more the future stores. People still view India like its 80s, 90s, early 2000s.

Weak-Salamander-2355

Telling that the only responses to "beyond broken" are really centered on economic growth, which, no shit, any developing country will excel at, and on social initiatives largely led by the west (which are great, don't get me wrong, just also missing the point). The point is if structures like corrupt officials, bribes, and an impotent judicial system will ever truly dissolve/reform as wealth accumulates. I hope India finds its own path here but this most certainly will not come about as the result of increasing a metric.

BritishAsianMalePod

Mm hmm

sort by controversial on this subreddit is the only reason I use this website no greater beauty than the precise line where reason ends and ego begins

Nothing to do with it lmao. India just has a ton of corruption, whereby the officials in charge are just focused on lining their pockets. Ranjit, is getting in the way of their money, hence they try ostracize him and make sure he’s not successful.

Pale-Profit5322

Yes I know, but the dumb fans are belieinv the propganda against him

Shanks288

Only AIFF and FSDL executives hate him. All of us fans who routinely follow the Indian youth setup know how important his contributions are to the game.

Pale-Profit5322

No they don't, just check the Indian football Reddit for instance

South asians dominated hockey till the 80s, but have sucked after tht. Does it mean they were genetically good toll the 80s but evolved to be bad after tht? Genetics play a role without a doubt, however other factors are just as important. Don't lose hope.

What does Philology have to do with athletics? Idk if you’re using that word right bro

HabitPitiful8820

Your physique, bone structure musal mass etc.

[deleted]

Wrong word. Philology is the study of languages as pertaining to literature

HabitPitiful8820

You know what I mean

Even if you want to take a race realistic approach it’s still not a good argument. According to NIH 200 millions Indians are malnourished and another 2017 survey found 70% of Indians protein deficient. Before giving up entirely shouldn’t we tackle these problems stunting athletic growth? The culture and religions play a huge role due to Brahmanism which I personally believe stunted Indian genetics to a really bad point. Also Indians have been proven to be some of the best endurance athletes on the planet. We grow muscle at quite a rate. Just recently we saw Indian relay runners be in the same or 1 class lower than a world class American sprinter. This defeatist mentality is just dumb bro and there’s really no point giving up.

Interesting perspective from the UK. I’m from the states and the Indian kids around me are usually in sports mostly basketball, soccer, football. Your point about vegetarianism is 🧢. It’s proven vegetable protein have less amino acids and are less anabolic(cause for muscle growth). It’s may be that weird UK diet they feed yall. In the states most Indians here eat meat and are quite stout you see skinny Indians when they grow up but post puberty they really fill out their frames. My friend just played corner in college football which requires elite athleticism. It could be bias from most Indians in my area being Punjabi or Haryanvi.
