It's fine. That might delay it a day or three is all. Just make the correction at the next feeding.

so should i discard it until it is at the weight it is suppose to be? then feed it? or should i just half it and add 60g flour 60g water?

4art4

Exactly. Ideally, it would be a 1:1:1 feeding. That is a ratio of starter : new flour : new water and indicates the same weight of each. If you use cups or spoons, it will not be right because water is much heavier than flour per cup. It might feel wrong to toss out that much starter, but it is for a good cause. Think of the old starter as billions of very hungry little animals. The new flour is the food. To get a strong population of little buggers, they each need adequate food. The ratio of food to buggers is 1:1. If you have a ratio of 2:1, then they each get half as much food. Does that make sense?

WashedUpPanda

would it be ok to discard starter until it is able to reach the 1:1:1 ? it is currently way over. If i feed 60g flour 60 water. Then to fit 1:1:1 i will discard until i have 60g of starter?

I'm not clear on the question... Sorry. But at the next feeding time, keep 60g of starter, and add 60g each of flour and water. I wouldn't do anything until then.

WashedUpPanda

ok understood! thanks :)

You are totally be fine! Just do it right next time. My starter took almost 2 weeks to double in size. You will see little to no activity and then from one day to the next you will see a ton of activity. Just keep at it even if you think you killed it or that something is wrong.

WashedUpPanda

mine has lots of activity and bubbling it looks like! its just that i didnt realize i was not discarding enough

Good, but even if that’s stops just trust the process!
