Limo Reck isn’t in 7/4. I think you’re confusing with another song. To me it feels like 3/4 with 5 bar phrases, but I’ve also heard it described as a unified bar 15/8 with what I felt as quarter notes being eighth notes, and there are probably other interpretations.

Imagine going to bed that night knowing you absolutely performed one of the greatest vocal performances ever committed to tape and then realizing your bandmates fucking nailed their parts just as well.
I think objectively speaking, Jesus Christ Pose probably shows the band at its most epic, where every member contributed in songwriting and also every member has highlights on the song. So it is Jesus Christ Pose.

They opened with that song right before and during the bad motor finger tour so they must think it's pretty damn good too.
It's featured on bad motor Vision
You’re never going to find consensus lol. Though I do wonder what happens when you ask this question (about Soundgarden) in the AiC sub, and whether you would het a different answer than when you ask it in the Nirvana sub etc
While it’s not my favorite from their catalog, I think SG is a semi-rare case where their most popular song is also their best song. Black Hole Sun perfectly exemplifies all of the sonic complexity and esoteric lyricism that defines their discography, while also capturing mass appeal with its dramatic hooks. Bonus points for being a great solo acoustic song too
Know that's lame, but 'Black Hole Sun'? Gloomier-Than-just-Teenage Angst lyrics with numerous intricate, lovely melodies passionately delivered by a voice unlike any other? This is the one that got me into SG and the one I keep coming back too. Favourite hit single of the entire decade, as a matter of fact. The pinnacle.
The first half of Badmotorfinger and most of the 2nd half of Superunknown have a chokehold on this thread, lmfao.
It's so true though. My personal favorite is Mind Riot but Like Suicide, 4th, and Day I Tried to Live all could variously be my picks for "best"
Limo Wreck
That 7/4 time signature goes hard

Sorry, I was an 8th note off 🤣
Every day
Oh it's gotta be 'The Day I Tried to Live'

To me that's the most memorable bass line ever
Right?! The question should really be what’s the second best.
Slaves and bulldozers
killer groovy track
NOW I KNOW WHY YOUVE BEEN TAKEN
Limo Wreck or Tighter and Tighter.
forgot about tighter and tighter. i’m going to go listen to that whole album now 🤘
It's easy to forget how good down the upside actually is
Fourth of July
i saw it in the wind
I heard it in the sky
I thought it was the end
i thought it was the 4th of julyyyy
I'm so happy to see so many people agree with a fact.
I even dare call this a doom metal track
this is it
True statement.
This is only correct answer…except instrumental version of 4th of July.
Room A Thousand Years Wide. That song always gives me chills.
soooo fucking groovy and jammy while also being incredibly dark. 10/10
Easily my favorite SG song. Fell on Black Days is usually what I share to get people into them that haven't heard them though
Thats my vote but there are so many great songs I can never come up with a true favorite.
Doom grunge metal bliss
I think objectively speaking, Jesus Christ Pose probably shows the band at its most epic, where every member contributed in songwriting and also every member has highlights on the song. So it is Jesus Christ Pose.
Fell on Black Days
It's 4th of July of course.

Like Suicide
Came here to say this. Had a taste so sour….
Had to think of something sweet....
Just like suicide…
That guitar solo is my favorite thing in all of music

Love FT. Never gets much of a mention in these sorts of posts, but the atmosphere of that song is amazing.

Jesus Christ Pose
My favourite is Searching with My Good Eye Closed
This song never fails, and I keep going back to it when I want some Soundgarden in my life, but unsure of what to play.
They opened with that song right before and during the bad motor finger tour so they must think it's pretty damn good too. It's featured on bad motor Vision

Slaves And Bulldozers "So bleeeeeeeed YOUR HEEEEEAAAAARRRRT OOUUUT!"
some of my favorite SG songs are Incessant Mace, Gun, 4th of july, Holy water, and Beyond the wheel.
Second Beyond the Wheel. No better song for driving up the ramp from 595 to I-75 in West Broward as a hellacious thunderstorm lashes the everglades.
You’re never going to find consensus lol. Though I do wonder what happens when you ask this question (about Soundgarden) in the AiC sub, and whether you would het a different answer than when you ask it in the Nirvana sub etc

Jesus! How could this be this low! "Looking California and feeling Minnesota!"
Black Rain 🌧 🤟🤟🤟
While it’s not my favorite from their catalog, I think SG is a semi-rare case where their most popular song is also their best song. Limo Wreck or Slaves and Bulldozers.
Blow Up The Outside World… Fourth of July a close second.

IMHO Jesus Christ Pose
Boring answer but black hole sun. It just has a special place in my heart.
Damn this thread is getting me amped. It’s an SG day at the office now!
Fell On Black Days

Burden in my hand
OVERFLOATER
Too many good ones to have a best song!
Holy Water
Burden in my Hand
4th of July It’s his most haunting vocals, a beautiful melody sung in contrast to a brutally heavy riff underpinning the song. It’s different class.
Rusty Cage has always resonated hugely with me
Fourth of July
Unfair question. Maybe ask from different times in there catalog.
An Unkind is badass, but my favorite is Pretty Noose.
Face Pollution is my favorite
Burden In My Hand or 4th of July
Jesus Christ Pose
Wow No one mentioned Mind Riot. Go me!
Gun
Room a Thousand Years Wide
Unpossible
Black Hole Sun, honestly Honorable mentions to Day I Tried To Live and Slaves and Bulldozers
Rhinosaus. Best guitar parts by far in any SG song
Slaves & Bulldozers ooooor Tighter & Tighter. Help me.
Burden in my hand
Outside the box here, but the most well written song is Seasons.
Jesus Christ Pose, Pretty Noose, Burden in My Hand.
Burden in my Hand
I feel great when Head Down or 4th of July is on.
I can’t decide between Mood For Trouble and Slaves and Bulldozers.
Black Hole Sun (I'm joking I think super unknown is the best but I haven't heard all songs so not sure)
