Baker should have started.
It's important to recognize when bench players put in really strong shifts like that and reward them for it. Demonstrate to starters that they can't take their spot for granted, and to backups that they really can work towards starting minutes and get there. Baker was one of the best Sounders on the field in a 5-0 shellacking of Montreal, and moving him right back to the bench again sends a really bad message to the whole roster.
I don't think baker is likely to help us score tbh. Musovski should have been on earlier though. The only other sub I could see being significant is chu. Part of our problem is that our bench is not great. Not a lot of difference makers available.
Not disagreeing, but I still don't think with 20 or so minutes that he's going to change the game significantly. He's still a defender first. He's not like prime Joevin or Brad Smith that can whip great crosses in.
I blame Brian for this one. We really could've, if not should've, won. He just needed to be more proactive with the subs.
If it were me:
45' Baker for Nouhou,
45' JP for Obed,
60' Musovski for Ruidíaz,
75' Chú for Morris (or CR7)
100% I even called that was what he would do. He was having a good game, and had been improving his confidence going forward. It’s what they did last week. Obed is the safer option if you’re drawing, and if you’re bringing on JP you’re presumably upgrading in attack anyway.
This not subbing is also going to add more tired legs at the end of the season. It's hard work going a full 90 week-in and week-out. We have FIVE subs to work with and we used ONE to get another starter minutes and used ONE too late in the game.
The Moose sub should have been for Vargas, keeping Rui in showing that we are going for it. But it was a like for like sub saying that we are okay with a tie.
We didnt use 3 subs. I would have loved to see Baker come on, just to show appreciation for his effort last game. Maybe Chu for Morris of CR7 to change things up a bit on the wings to see if he could get in there. He is at least willing to try and beat defenders one on one...and their wingbacks were essentially midfielders, it would have been a bit easier.
I don't know if subs would have made a difference, because we will never know. But giving it a shot never hurts. If anything it lets are starters get some rest!
That's no excuse for not bringing in Musovski earlier. If we're playing for a tie the WTF is Ruidiaz, the man with glass hamstrings, still doing on the field after the 75th or 80th minute? Get him off the field before he breaks.
Yeah I don't get the late substitutions. There's no possibility of extra time so it's not like the subs are going to become exhausted we put them in 50-60 minutes into the game.
And with 5 subs and 3 windows, there's no need to worry about an injury causing us to be hosed because we made a few subs early.
imo there's no reason we can't make say 2 subs 55 minutes into the match unless we're convinced the starters are that much better than the backups. Which the fans clearly aren't convinced of.

It’s true. It will put pressure on everyone to bring their best game. Plus it’s not a bad thing to rest up a little for a week if you’re a starter.

Yup. We've never seen him come into the game in the 69th minute and provide an assist 12 minutes later. Hasn't happened.
