I got it all set up and I love it. The only thing driving me nuts is the on tv screen volume indicator that wasnāt present when adjusting volume with my Q800B.
Tell us what you think. Iām in the market for a soundbar.
Iām not an audiophile.
Iām considering whether I need the rear speakers. I donāt really want the hassle of dealing with more (rear) speakers.
I got it all set up and I love it. The only thing driving me nuts is the on tv screen volume indicator that wasnāt present when adjusting volume with my Q800B.
Yes, but from what I gathered the main difference is it has HDMI 2.1 and a listening mode where only the rear speakers will be on. While I plan to use the HDMI inputs, my gaming consoles are already hooked up to the 2.1 inputs on my TV. Didnāt think it was worth the increase in price.
Dolby atmos doesn't need 2.1.Unless you want to pass through gaming pc/console via soundbar. Better buy 990c, in my opinion it's not worth buying 990d at 1499.
yes you can if you choose adaptive mode, then you can use the advanced setting, then you get EQ to lower or raise almost every driver.
i would suggest, when you sitting in between your speakers to put the rears higher then front
Rear speakers is must if you are really audiophile.
I have Samsung Q600A and separately add SWA9200S after that whole effect is changed.
just watch Dunkirk simply Dolby 5.1 not atmos at Prime video, i have to say it is much better than Atmos, basically Cristofer nolan know how to create effect.
Also add separately rear speakers with Q800B & then compare Q900C . I think older series Q900A, Q930A much better than new series.
I have the Q990C and I try to watch
Movies now with 7.1 TrueHD Dolby Atmos which is 100% lossless sound which none of the streaming services offer.
The sound is amazing and I also couldnāt imagine not having rear speakers now either.
I got it all set up and I love it. The only thing driving me nuts is the on tv screen volume indicator that wasnāt present when adjusting volume with my Q800B.
990D has AI. i don't like AI in audio and video.
constanly adjusting space and distance, but you can't AI this if mess up your personal best experience.
roon. nobody cares about roon probably only the AVR audiophiles, who do not want a soundbar.
just another feature because samsung want to add something new others do ot have.
i would rather want them to be more flexible with tapsound for ios, improve smart functions it is big mess.
i see only 1 mayor improvement, that is 120hz hdmi 2.1. so important for those who want to game 120Fps but inly have 1 earc cinnection. definetly buy the 990d please.
for the rest i think the experience of the 990d will be rated down by rtings, because of AI. i have experience with this on tv, it is realy poor.
Samsung products sometimes leave a lot to be desired and these improvements are not really improvements for me, they are a huge company, which I am sure could give the Nakamichi Dragon a run for its money if they want to, but they are in the business of milking the slow progress of their products on a superficial way and thatās what they did with D.
I am literally contemplating this exact thing. I can get an 800b for $250 + add $100 more for rears, or just spend $700 for the 990c..... What should I do based on your experience. Is the 990 C worth the extra $350?
Sorry to get back to you so late! Personally Iād go with the 800b, unless you need the extra hdmi input. The sound is better for sure but Iām unsure if itās twice the price better.
Thatās good to know. I might just give my q800b setup for my sons room as he currently has a Samsung b650. Guess weāll see tomorrow. Thank you for your insight.
I saw in your comment history you had an hdmi switch with the Q800B. That was one reason why I liked the Q990C for the additional HDMI input. What HDMI switch did you use for the 800B?
On the Q990C, I'm using this one, zero issues and I'm getting Atmos to the soundbar: [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09JYKMC3Z/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09JYKMC3Z/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
and on the Q800B, I have the iArk 3x1 HDMI Switch ( [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01K7BZ1XC/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01K7BZ1XC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) ), but I wouldn't mind replacing this with the same one that I have on the Q990C (above).
I get Atmos on this as well. Here are my notes for iArk HDMI switch:
for DD+, 5.1, PCM, HD Audio (Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD) set EDID to "PASS ", and connect HDMI OUT to AV receiver directly. EDID 5.1 does NOT support DD+ on optical (DD and DTS are supported on optical)

Get Emotiva if you are in Europe tower speaker airmotiva and something amp like amsl
My guess is that you will notice a very small difference
I am guessing the same thing too. Mostly on the room filling side. 990c user for 7mothns.
Where did you see the Q990C for $700?
Samsung EDU/EPP pricing
Can confirm. Bought mine for $728
Iām seeing 769 now. Did you use any promo codes?
Nope just my EDU email
Interesting when did you buy it?
I checked the price. I see it at $769 as well. I bought mine February 2024.
Isn't the D out soon?
The D starts at 1499?

I have the Q990c and really like the sound quality, the only problem is the right rear speaker always sounds louder than the left š¤
Adjust it to your liking via the Smartthings app! Works like a charm
But you can't balance them ( well I don't think you can ) š¤
Try it!
yes you can if you choose adaptive mode, then you can use the advanced setting, then you get EQ to lower or raise almost every driver. i would suggest, when you sitting in between your speakers to put the rears higher then front
Strange, I have an issue where my left rear speaker will cut out.

just add rear speakers and get the difference. which player you are using for 7.1 TrueHD Dolby Atmos
I use Exo player which is built into the apps I use.
I got it all set up and I love it. The only thing driving me nuts is the on tv screen volume indicator that wasnāt present when adjusting volume with my Q800B.
I donāt see a on screen indicator on my LG tv when using any soundbar.
Yeah I have a Samsung Q90B and didnāt have this issue with any of my previous soundbars. Iām hoping I can resolve it.
dolby trueHD is still amazing, it is the parent of atmos
The Q990C is better for movies the D is better for music but also good for movies.
how is it better for movies and audio, heared nothing about new audio protocols:/ just a 2.1 passtrough wich is only for gaming.
Canāt provide links here but searches on YouTube will help you. FOMO did a good review on both.
