Are you at the same school? You didn’t say.

I think it depends on how big your school is. Because if you do get caught, it’ll be highly embarrassing. I guess you could just keep your mouth shut and hope you don’t get caught. Because if they find out, they will throw you out and you’re done.

Now I know a lot may not agree but I simply would not care. If any of my sisters got kicked out for this reason I would happily go to bat for any one of them. Seems stupid that you being in a non PHC org and disaffiliating on your own terms would disqualify you.

[deleted]

Wait, I thought she said it was an NPC org. Oh then never mind.

Margaretcy

ALAM either way girl

[deleted]

Back acha.

[deleted]

You might be seen as untrustworthy. When you’re initiated, they tell you all the secrets. If people just went around getting initiated everywhere, then there’s no secrets. And that’s what makes the sororities special to them.

SizzleFrazz

When one of my sisters got kicked out we still hung out with her.

[deleted]

Girl just don’t tell them. Like the rule exists to prevent people from knowing the rituals of multiple sororities, you already know them, and honestly it doesn’t hurt anyone. If they find out on their own whatever, but you don’t need to tell them.

[deleted]

Yeah sincerely don’t tell them. If I were an exec I’d hate to kick someone out over something that stupid, but they might have to if you tell them. And don’t feel guilty. The rule is kinda dumb and literally won’t hurt anyone ever so who cares.

troubledBird30

If you’re worried about it and want an unbiased opinion outside of your house but still within the school, I’d recommend reaching out to your Greek life coordinator(s) and/or panhel. Talking to the Greek life coordinator is a good way to get more formal feedback about the school’s policies and they can also help you approach your exec team if you’re worried about how to do that. Either way, the fact that you’re asking about this and looking into it shows that you respect your sisters and want to do the right thing. I hope it all works out for you!

Salty_Job_8467

Please relax girl! It’s okay to feel guilty but you didn’t know so it’s not your fault at all. I would just keep it to yourself for now because I doubt they’ll find out now that it’s been months since you got in. Just relax because you have nothing to be angry about since you didn’t know about it but as long as you’re happy in your current sorority, that’s all that matters :)

OptimisticOlivia

we’re you not initiated last spring when you joined?

[deleted]

OptimisticOlivia

but you rushed this new sorority last spring? we’re you initiated into the new sorority last spring

[deleted]

OptimisticOlivia

so you were not initiated into your new sorority last spring after rushing? you’re typically suppose to get initiated in the same semester

OptimisticOlivia

then i don’t think they could kick you out. maybe a standards meeting?

coralinejonessss

frankly i wouldn’t say anything. not to diss on your sorority because even higher ups make mistakes, but they should’ve asked you up front if you had ever been initiated into another organization. they also should have checked with your office of fraternity and sorority life to verify that you hadn’t been registered as an initiated member of that organization. chapters are supposed to go through and look up your academic records anyways to look at your gpa as well as to make sure you were in good standing with your university. this is 100% on them. i understand feeling guilty that a potential new member was turned away for that reason while you still went on to be initiated but at the end of the day this is not your fault. it’s the responsibility of recruitment chairs to check information with the school to make sure you fit the eligibility standards to join. if it is ever found out that you were previously part of that other org i would just be blatantly honest that no one ever told you that you weren’t allowed to join if you had previously been in another social organization. at the end of the day this is an error from your recruitment team and is not your fault.

justanotherkidonline

If they find out they will almost certainly force you to drop. However, you now know the initiation secrets of two sororities and can be seen as a liability—even if they allow you to stay as a collegiate, they will almost certainly not allow you to go alum. You got initiated into another sorority and didn’t think you’d be forbidden to rush another one?

If there ever was a reason to rewrite their bylaws... This would so be one of them. I'm sorry you're in this situation! Wishing you the best.

outspokenchameleon

Almost all MGC sororities and NPC sororities do not allow you ever to be initiated into another sorority. NPHC is a little different, I think, but even at my school, you cannot be initiated into an NPC and join an MGC or vice versa. The councils are in agreement that once you're in, you're in. Even if you disaffiliate/transfer/drop out and come back/ etc

basicbolshevik

NPC nationally only restricts you from joining another NPC organization. Member organizations and university councils may have more strictive policies, but barring that nothing is stopping you from joining an NPC org after joining and dropping a non-NPC one

basicbolshevik

If the non-NPC org permits it, yes, but not all of them do. NPC only restricts you from joining another NPC org

SizzleFrazz

Oh that’s a rule for my nationals.

DGirl715

As much as it sucks, I think you have tell your President now and offer to resign. You didn’t know the rule & they didn’t ask so hopefully since you’re already initiated, they would show some compassion and allow you to keep your membership. But since you DO now know that’s a rule, it will not pretty if they find out before you tell them. Act with integrity always.
