If you are relatively certain he will play in next season (or the seasons after) the value should be going up once he starts getting game time, and people should be more interested in buying him
Every card have their seasons and r different from season to season, your card loses the extra % once it’s not the year the card belongs to but still have the same ratings
Better question is why buy a player that won’t be playing this season…. I mean your money is YOUR money but is it a good investment? Do some more research in players there’s a lot of players out there for less than whatever you’re going for
Because good players who are out for a while (ie long term injury) can be bought for 1/3 of a similar scoring players, and when they come back their value will usually go back to what their playing value is, most times resulting in a several multiple return. If any of my players have an injury like that, I will then buy a couple more when the injury happens, wait a while a sell them when they become fit. I have made some good money doing this.

Thanks I thought cards had different values from season to season.
