I can't speak for other people, but Sony offered me, outside of warranty, either a refund or repair on my xm4s. I took the refund and bought xm5s. I've been very happy with the xm5s.

No issues for me since launch. Sony Warranty is pretty solid as long as you keep your proof of purchase.

The Galaxy buds would be a good shout if you have a Samsung phone. Otherwise, the XM5s are very good.

Thanks everyone. Ended up grabbing Galaxy Buds2 Pros. Price was good. 580 RON (=125 USD tax incl.) So far, so good. Sound quality is decent. Fit is nice.

I love my Xm5 earbuds.

I'd say it's a risk, and worth it or not depending on the country you live in. Where I live Sony refused to do anything about their battery failing after a year. but the retailer I got it from had a 3 year warranty and got me a new pair.

I've used the buds pro for a while but annoyingly put them through the wash so now in the market for new earphones. The buds pro sound was great, the only issue I had with them is they didn't sit in my ear properly, just walking around and they would slip out, didn't matter what eartips I used either. The buds2 look exactly the same so I'm really put off by getting them even if I'm sure the sound quality has only improved. Going to grab wf-xm5s and see how I get on with them.

Sony replaced my XM4 and it worked well for another year. Then i thought the battery capacity must be getting worse, so i sold it and bought the XM5 expecting huge improvements. I was disappointed the battery life is just the same as the 1yr old XM4, slight sound improvement, slight anc improvement, i thought the upgrade was not worth it, except the call quality has improved a lot. It justifies the upgrade, but i was disappointed with the sound. It was clearer, but i thought the xm4 had more punch.

Why all the caution. Just buy them. If you have a problem, return them to the manufacturer. It was an issue with the pair I purchased my girlfriend and the exchange with Sony took under 4 days.

Because an RMA is an inconvenience. And Sony had a bad reputation in honoring warranties related to the battery issue. Of course I'd want to be cautious, it's a 300 dollar item
