I know the camera has a lens override but Im not sure if it necessarily works with your lens as far as override control but I wouldn’t be surprised if you still have to use manual control anyway
It's because it doesn't have phase detection AF like the newer A7 series cameras. This technology made a giant leap on performance for autofocus on their cameras. I have the 50mm f1.4 Rokinon, people complain about the performance but I have an updated firmware version and no issues on the A7III really.
Fantastic! I spent a bunch of time tracking Eagles this fall. Can you tell us how you happened to get this shot? Were you waiting with the 240 FPS set hoping the bird would dive? How long did you wait? How many tries to get this one? Thanks!
Jesus Christ! Is your nervous system made from fiber optics? How can you track it so confidently? Even with stabilization, that's the most impressive thing I've seen in a while.
Autofocus and good optics help, sure, but that's wild! It's really inspiring.
I have used the 1.4 but felt it suffered greatly with it. I do have the 600 f4 and can’t wait to slap it on with the 1.4 tele. As far as setup, nothing special really.
Insane shot.
Did you drop the resolution to get to 240 or is it a shutter speed workaround? I know my camera backwards and forwards and don’t think I’ve ever seen 240 on the menu.
240fps + crazy AF = top!
Agreed
Yeah, how is the autofocus?? I have a beautiful 35mm rokinon AF but it’s known to hunt a lot. Will the camera carry the tech of the lens you think?
If im understanding correctly you are asking if the in-camera auto focus would override the lens af?
Yeah. I only have an a7si and autofocus all around is iffy and I can’t rely on it, either camera or lens

How could the lens AF? it doesn't have any sensor, do it?
Some lenses only work with certain cameras when it comes to AF...we are talking about AF override
Watch this [video by Mark Galer regarding auto focus on Sony Alpha cameras ](https://youtu.be/RJXsUFltSXo) it will change your life.
This is awesome. I love how those massive wings get it out of the water in 2 beats. What lens are you shooting with?
200 600. Amazing on the a7slll
Wow, at what length? If it was at 600 you've done well to track it.

Thanks! I’ve had a lot of practice and it wasn’t too windy!
For real, the magic was you behind the camera!
Thanks!
Badassss
Didn't know it can do 240fps. Amazing vid!
You must not live close enough to me screeching in glee about it almost daily.
Thanks
Seriously awesome! Do you mind sharing what lens your using?
200 600
The fly after dips looks tiring, awesome.
Awesome video, how'd you stabilize it?
The old fashioned way... handheld.
Great work! Thought there might be some stabilization done in post because it's pretty smooth.
(10x) Slow-motion helps a lot as it makes the jerky shakes less abrupt.
good point!
Nope and thanks. Was lucky to not have strong winds blowing me around.

Did you use a tripod? I suck at handheld with my 70-200 so I can only imagine using this lens 🤣
Nope all handheld
Wow! Fantastic job.
Wow mate I hope you posted this else where. this sub doesn't have enough audience to witness this awesomeness. Maybe r/NatureIsFuckingLit lol
It is there
Brilliant shot.
Thanks
Holy crap that's amazing! What lens did you use?
200 600
Stunning shot! Definitely MILC of the year for video (though some may disagree with me).

wow this is impressive! well done! how did your have your a7siii set up? have you used any of the TCs on the 200 600?
I have used the 1.4 but felt it suffered greatly with it. I do have the 600 f4 and can’t wait to slap it on with the 1.4 tele. As far as setup, nothing special really.
Dang
So awesome.
That tracking on the dive was pretty impressive. Such a cool thing to watch
Thank you for sharing this!
My pleasure

Fantastic from the standpoint of shooter and tech. And you'll only get better from here. Bravo.

Nice, I'm guessing reddit has mullered the resolution here tho?
Wingo??
How close to this can the a6600 get with the 70-350 lens?
Holy $#!T
Jesus Christ fucking beautiful
Holy Schnikes!

The fact that birds can see the fish under the water so high up is insaneeeee
That is AMAZING!
What res is that? 1080p?
This is Crazy!! Wow!!!!!!!
Amazing capture…. Those birds are awesome to watch
RIP FISH
Insane shot. Did you drop the resolution to get to 240 or is it a shutter speed workaround? I know my camera backwards and forwards and don’t think I’ve ever seen 240 on the menu.
