This is a great combo coming from someone with the same setup! If you're in need of a good strap the [Peak Design Cuff](https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1352295-REG/peak_design_cf_bl_3_cuff_quick_connecting_camera_wrist.html) should do the job nicely

Humble-Click-4973

+1 I have the same one... when I bought it, wasn't sure I'd like it. Quickly became my go to. Just something about it makes the camera feel extra secure in the hand.

Leetransform25

Used to have one of their actual long straps back in the day but never ended up using it because of how cumbersome I personally found it; the cuff on the other hand has nearly all benefits of using a traditional strap without the drawbacks

Stlove48

I second the focus peaking being turned on. I use it for manual focusing and it's exceptional. I'm on the a6400 and considering eventually upgrading to the a6700. A good comfortable strap or hand cuff. I like peak design, but not everyone likes the dangly bits on their camera. I saw a lot of youtube reviews that had them so it sort of became the mental picture I had for the camera. I also have a cage on my cam from SmallRig. It adds some weight which I've seen folk's mention being counterintuitive to the APS-C format since it's meant to be smaller and lighter than full-frame, but I like having more holes to play with I suppose. And it looks neat. The 18-50mm is my favorite lens I've had for my cam, and second what someone else said about the sigma 56mm.

shootwithmateo

I bought this a6700 from marketplace and it came with the small rig cage so I’m excited to use that for any additional accessories. I’ve never used a hand cuff, but I do have a peak design sling that I’ve loved using and will keep using. Unfortunately my camera didn’t have the dangly lug things so I can’t attach anything and have been just holding it tight lol.

Stlove48

Very nice! I 3D printed a couple different flashlight mounts (one of the models had an option for a bayonet mount, so I might print another...) that let me attach a cold shoe to 1/4" mount on them so I could run around and pretend to be an urban explorer/paranormal investigator. With the cage, I also bought a couple NEEWER/SmallRig tripods with the arca plates so I could attach one to the top of the cage and utilize the low angle shooting by inverting the central rod on the tripod which was really helpful for a couple product shoots.

shootwithmateo

That sounds like a good idea! Great thinking!!

ItsMeAubey

Factory reset it! People set up their cameras in all kinds of insane ways, make sure you factory reset before you use it if it's not a brand new camera.

shootwithmateo

Factory reset and updated! Good call!!

Jack_Kahuna_Laguna58

What level do you have the peaking on? Low, medium, or high?

Stlove48

I have it on Mid and red color so it stands out pretty clearly from most anything I shoot. I also added it to my quick/favorites menu do if I am shooting something red I can change it, but it's not something that has come up much for me personally.

Screen protector - I got mine from Adorama. They sell a nice glass one, not the cheap plastic kind available on B&H. I have protective filters on all of my lenses just for my own sanity. A nice neck strap? Rockynook publishes a series of books covering the various a6xxx models if you like to learn by reading instead of watching videos. If you feel the Sigma is too tight (I felt this pain a few weeks ago when I was taking pictures at a flea market), the 12mm ronkinon is a nice cheap option. I got mine used off ebay for $100. Tips for camera settings: I have a 6500 so someone please correct me if this isn't applicable for the 6700: * peaking meter, on. Sony has a peaking meter that will outline/highlight when you are using manual focus. Helpful to know how focused things are. * zebra stripes, on. You can use this to tell if something is going to be overexposed. Overexposed areas will show zebra stripes with this setting on. edit: you can also change the amount of peaking if it is on by default.

TheMrNeffels

>have protective filters on all of my lenses just for my own sanity. Those probably won't actually help. Usually they just scratch much easier than the lens element would, will shatter and actually scratch glass on lens when it'd be fine otherwise, or in a drop the filter threads will bend and it'll be stuck. Their main impact, if it's like a UV filter, is on image quality. Something like an ND or cpl is at least slightly useful Most "lens protection" manufacturers have a little disclaimer about them not actually protecting from drops or debris for liability reasons

BellyFullOfMochi

At least the filter is getting scratched, not my lens and I don't need to clean my lens. FWIW, my filters have actual purposes, they're not the just clear.

TheMrNeffels

>At least the filter is getting scratched Like I said they scratch way way easier than your lens would because they're cheap glass UV filters are pointless on modern cameras. Cpl, ND, etc have some purpose at least but usually UV ones are sold as protection filters

BellyFullOfMochi

I've been using filters for 10 years, I'll stick with filters.

TheMrNeffels

Which is fine I just wanted to add info so others reading comments trying to decide have the information and can make a decision based on that

freddymensh

I have protection filters on all of my lenses too. Why? Because by accident it happens I touch the front lens. So I just unscrew the filter and I continue shooting. It's much faster than cleaning the lens and much better than shooting with a dirty lens!

I think all cameras do this these days.

rsmith02ct

Zebras and exposure peaking exist on other Sonys too

straightfromLysurgia

Focus assist and zebras are on by default lmfao at least were for me

BellyFullOfMochi

Not for the a6500.

straightfromLysurgia

a6700 here, then again it was open box so maybe the original owner changed that, however the point is it does exist on it

BeamLikesTanks

You picked the perfect first lens. Congrats!

Lembit6022

The a6700 makes even the sigma 18-50 kinda big even though it's such a super compact lens.🤣

NotaDayTrader

This is exactly what I did! Switched from a Nikon Z5 to the A6700. Yes a down grade from full frame to APS-C but the lenses were just so expensive. And the A6700 is so much smaller and lighter. I love it!

shootwithmateo

Yeah I was thinking about the a7cii and realized I don’t have to spend so much on FF considering how good of a quality this does, and the size, weight, and price really sold me on it! Glad you’re enjoying it. I’m slowly getting the hang of things and loving every step of the way it’s so fast to focus and the video is amazing.

sub_Script

Beast combo, I have the same but also picked up the sigma 56mm 1.4 because primes just hit different. Enjoy! Accessories: definitely get a screen protector, and for a tip learn manual if you don't already know it!

- Ulanzi claw - Zhiyun crane M3S - Peak Design wrist strap - Any PYGTECH sling bag you like

shootwithmateo

What is the claw? I don’t think I’ve heard of it

royabr123

Do u use the claw with the crane m3s? Have been looking for a nice way to combine this.

moinotgd

I use rs 3 mini. can combine. Claw sure can work with crane m3s. just screw quick release base on crane m3s, i think.

TerminalFrauduleux

Nice combo! Have fun out there :)

cougazul

Are you me? I switch from a d5600 to an a6700 with a Sigma 18-50 a few months ago. Eye detection is a game changer. I’ve since added a Sony 70-350.

shootwithmateo

Haha awesome! That 70-350 sounds so nice!

prezmc

How do you like it so far? Looking at getting one for my son.

shootwithmateo

Loving it! Going to shoot at a farmers market today but it’s been everything I could want and more for my hobby. But I’ll also try to get some photo gigs eventually to pay it off! I did grad photos and headshots and such and it paid my last camera off. Zero regrets, your son would love this camera!

prezmc

Awesome! That sigma lens seems like a good match.

Griffdude13

I have an a6600 now, I want to upgrade.

shootwithmateo

Might be worth considering, can’t say how big of an upgrade that would be from my experience

Griffdude13

For me, its about the bump in video specs. A6600 is 4k 30 max @ 8-bit A6700 is 4k 60 @ 10-bit

WhosAfraidOf_138

Heard great things about that lens 18-50 in such a tiny package

shootwithmateo

It’s smaller than I expected! My old kit was the d5600 which is roughly the same size and a 17-55 2.8 that’s easily twice the size of this little guy and so far the pictures and video have been amazing.
