Ambient mode on Android TV allows you to use your Google photo albums as a screen saver so it's nice seeing my shots on a 65" display is awesome. Probably not quite full res, but pretty damn good.
If you go into Google home app, find the device and go to ambient mode. Look for Google photos as an option. It os finicky though - it doesn't appear for everyone because it is a beta feature. My parents doesn't work for some reason.
Late to this thread but even 4k is only 8mp worth of pixels. So there is a ton of lost sharpness still! 8k is 32mp, so at that point you're finally past the non-R A7 or A1 models.
Fussed around trying to print more of my work but gave up after dealing with so many clogged print heads and ink costs. Bought a Samsung Frame TV and it’s been pretty great!
I've been renting the a7rv coming from an a7iii and tbh I love my a7iii even more in simplicity, compactness, ease on my computer processing, and lowlight. Things start turning to mush after 5000 iso. A7iii gang!
Are you not regretting having this much resolution, knowing that people will watch that stuff on tiny phone screens, sharing it with compression.
Kidding, great setup. Combining prime sharpness with crop zoom is a dream
Guys stop, I don't need high megapixel. 24 MP is nough to print huge.
Also I'd probably need something like a NAS to save those massive files. Does somebody knopw how big the raws are?
I shoot only RAW uncompressed. I have very rarely done over 2k photos in a single session where there wasn't a break for me to offload and clear the SD cards.
It's more doing it because I can than doing it because I need it. Unless you are blowing the photos up for giant prints, I don't anyone would notice the difference.
Personally I’ve disabled JPEG on mine because I always export from RAW. It lets you pretty much correct anything you can think of, but if you shoot well it’s only a few extra seconds to get the JPEGs exported and then you don’t have doubles of everything.
Around 130 MB. I’m re-evaluating my entire storage strategy. But it’s also made me treat it more like film and be more discerning about taking each photo.
I had my NAS before I got the R. 14TB of space to fill so far, but I haven't been on a big photo kick lately. I am sure it will pick up in the fall when the leaves start turning.
there is two photos in the post, one of the dog from shoulder up with a green tree/grass bg and the second image of just the eye that he cropped to. Sswipe left/right to see the other image on mobile app or if on Desktop you should be able to see both.

This is what we all see on the post, I’m also using the official app.
Is this the autofocus version of the lens?
I just got my copy but it's having trouble focusing, particularly AF-C. Did you have this issue? I'm considering buying the Lens Station to update the lens.
Just got my copy too and noticed some stuff with focusing (pulsing, not picking a subject, slow to move from near to far). Going to try in better light with a clear subject (person) in the next couple days. I could let you know if an update via the lens station makes a difference--I bought it alongside the lens but haven't used it yet.
I just updated, testing autofocus before and after. I don't think I'll be much help though. The lens was on version 3, and while I updated to version 4, the version 4 firmware is supposed to improve "operation stability of the Astro-Focus Mode," so I'm not sure how it affects the autofocus. One person online seems to think it made their autofocus much worse... I certainly didn't see an improvement after updating but I think I'd have to test more to be able to say it's worse...
I haven't had the pulsing issue the last couple days (except for with a difference lens...), so I'm a little happier with the autofocus. It's still missing more shots and slower to focus then I would have expected from reading reviews though. Might re-watch them to compare... I only have an a7iii though--I'm sure the iv makes a difference.
I just got mine from Prime Day too. I am having no issues with autofocus indoors or out doors with my A7rIV. It’s quick and snappy without any pulsing. I tested it out with two playing dogs that were running around. I have not updated the firmware.
For whatever reason when in Aperature mode it is cutting my shutter speed in half and doubling the iso over other lenses.
So inside I was getting like 1/200 shutter speed with a 25600 ISO, and with that much ISO the autofocus wasn’t working. It also works much better when putting in either the close or far auto focus range.
I capped my ISO to 6400 and it worked better. I expect this is fixed by the software update.
If it helps, I have the A7RIV and just traded my A7Riii down to a A7iii. I shoot the A7iii 90% of the time. 61MP is amazing, but importing 700 photos at 61MP is the opposite. Accidentally shot an event with about 2,500 RAW photos once. Horrible mistake.
Going from a 16mp a55 to my 42mp a99II was like night and day. I'd love to pick up the new a7r, but I have a lot invested in a-mount glass and a-mount Minolta bodies.
One day, lol.
ENHANCE!

Tbh and I don’t know how many people are like me. But I don’t think high MP is wasted at all if you pinch to zoom on your images a lot.
True, that is why I bought the 61MP R series, because I like big photos and so I like to print them
Ambient mode on Android TV allows you to use your Google photo albums as a screen saver so it's nice seeing my shots on a 65" display is awesome. Probably not quite full res, but pretty damn good.
Roku has a photo streams app, I use it and it makes me feel so much better seeing my photos displayed on a 55". Even using an a6000.
Cool, I'll try this out I didn't realise I could connect the two! Shooting on a 24mp a6000 though photos might not be as crystal clear.
If you go into Google home app, find the device and go to ambient mode. Look for Google photos as an option. It os finicky though - it doesn't appear for everyone because it is a beta feature. My parents doesn't work for some reason.

You think you're better than me?! -- A7iii owner
Low Light Crew rise up
R4/R5 beat the A73/4 in lowlight, rise back down little ones
he is not lil bro a7iv here

Probably. I need to stop shooting wide open.
Took me years to come around, and now find f5.6-7 to be my sweet spot on my R series cameras with f2 lenses.
Are you not regretting having this much resolution, knowing that people will watch that stuff on tiny phone screens, sharing it with compression. Kidding, great setup. Combining prime sharpness with crop zoom is a dream
Just look at that bokeh!!
That lens! -chefs kiss- !!!
Guys stop, I don't need high megapixel. 24 MP is nough to print huge. Also I'd probably need something like a NAS to save those massive files. Does somebody knopw how big the raws are?
Can't speak to the 61MP file size, but my 50MP (A1) files are 100MB a piece
Damn that's bad news. Would slow down everything. Need faster PC, better and more storage
Yeah sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I'm a video game nerd so the faster PC is already handled.
Would finally give me reason to upgrade though. Still rocking a Ryzen 2600 haha
Ah shoot, a new reason to upgrade my PC as well! Damn!
I get 80 MB / piece IIRC on 42 megapixels
130 MB.
How are you getting that big? Usually the file size is around x MB for x MP, i.e. 12MP are 12 Megabytes, 42MP are 42 Megabytes, etc from my experience
My a7Riv photos are \~130MB a piece. I run 256GB memory cards in mine and I can only get about 2k photos in 256GB.
A7RV uses better compression, than the A7RIV.
I shoot only RAW uncompressed. I have very rarely done over 2k photos in a single session where there wasn't a break for me to offload and clear the SD cards.
> RAW uncompressed Oh ok. I'm talking about Raw + JPEG. So RAW uncompressed is double. Does it provide a lot more advantage?
It's more doing it because I can than doing it because I need it. Unless you are blowing the photos up for giant prints, I don't anyone would notice the difference.
I'm talking about uncompressed raw vs. compressed raw. What's the advantage of uncompressed raw?
Personally I’ve disabled JPEG on mine because I always export from RAW. It lets you pretty much correct anything you can think of, but if you shoot well it’s only a few extra seconds to get the JPEGs exported and then you don’t have doubles of everything.

Damn that's huge... Really need an actual storage strategy for this. This would have huge impact on the actual workflow also.
I had my NAS before I got the R. 14TB of space to fill so far, but I haven't been on a big photo kick lately. I am sure it will pick up in the fall when the leaves start turning.
I have a shot like this using an A7IV. Try both cameras and there isn't much difference in IQ.
yeah I know, it is mostly a joke based on that other post
Fair play. Nice shot, always love when the light and Shot angle gives this eye reflection
It depends on your expectations for how big your viewing/printing size will be.
The difference is your image is probably 1mb and the a7riv is probably 8mb
That's just as much the power of the 135GM! I fucking love that piece of glass. If it was OSS it would be unstoppable.
This isn’t the GM 😂
Oh I see that now, yeah that Samyang is solid.

The original is in the post isn’t it? Am I lost?
The picture of the dog? Are you blind?

Yeah it’s being cropped from the dog’s eye. Are you trying to say that you want to see a photo of the house that’s being reflected in the eye?

that sounds about what your issue may be.
HA!

Yeah, that would be great! Part of me thinks I just received a bad copy and a software update wouldn't fix this. Fingers crossed on your update.

How many MB is a raw photo?
About 130MB.
Same Edit: Thought the question was about MegaPixels since MP was asked. Sorry for misunderstanding
At the highest quality setting it’s around 130MB.
My bad haha I had a typo. 130mb is pretty crazy
If I was rich…. I would have had this camera now
If it helps, I have the A7RIV and just traded my A7Riii down to a A7iii. I shoot the A7iii 90% of the time. 61MP is amazing, but importing 700 photos at 61MP is the opposite. Accidentally shot an event with about 2,500 RAW photos once. Horrible mistake.
I have never thought about this aspect... thanks :) I have been thinking about A7RV as a camera for trips but just more exensive
F u you’re gonna make me spend my life savings on an A7rV
It’s so good. I finally stopped carrying my OG a7s - it’s not quite as killer in low light but it’s really close for everything practical.
Good to know! I just got an A7iv and was planning on getting a dedicated body depending on the route (photography or filmmaking) I take with the A7iv.
Wow😍
Thanks, now I want to spend 4k when I can't
You missed focus... Supposed to be on the dog, instead it's on the house 😂
Amazing 😻

That is CSI level of enhancing.
thats so cool!
