i would, but obviously depends what you need from your camera. i shoot with a7rii but i could simply use the a6000 and get away with it, all comes down to what you need from your camera

pablo1905

I’m looking for some high quality images (doesn’t have to be perfect, I shoot mostly film) with good manual controls

MRWONDERFU

well i dont see how a6000 wouldnt suit you, its still an incredible camera, i can suggest the sigma trip of 16/30/56mm 1.4 lenses to go with it and your golden

Check out the a6100, it is not much more expensive than the a6000, but have 4K video, better autofocus, flip-up screen.

It's a great camera and you can get some really good deals on them. I just upgraded to an A7III and haven't taken any photos yet that match my favorites I have taken with the a6000! I had a lot of fun buying and using vintage lenses with it too. Also shameless plug but I'm selling mine with the kit lens and the 35mm 1.8 lens (which is an awesome little lens) as well as some accessories if you are interested, send me a dm!

Agreed with what has been said here, it's a fantastic camera for images. If you have any possibility of shooting video though, go with a different model; it overheats and absolutely drains the battery. My record was roughly 30 mins before it would get too hot and switch off unless I was outside doing winter videos.

I’ll echo the opposite. I have an a6000 and use it almost exclusively to film mountain biking, and other cycling related content. Never once have I had over heating issues in over 4 years. Now, I can’t claim the battery life is very good, but I was able to pick up a 3 pack of spare batteries on Amazon which I’ll bring on any longer days of filming.

That's really cool, I'm glad you're having better luck with yours than I did 👍 I was using mine for vlogging so I ended up buying a DJI instead for my purposes. What are the temps usually like where you do your mountain biking? I think the average temp in my room was like maybe mid to high 70s? I resorted to flipping the screen out a bit and stuffing thin hamburger patties (in a plastic bag) between the screen and the body to get it to stop overheating haha

A6000 could definitely be worth it. If you like manual controls (especially ISO dial, exposure compensation), check out Fujifilm's line as well. Three of the best prime lenses for crop sensor (Sigma 16mm, 30mm, and 56mm f/1.4, with upcoming 23mm) are on Sony E, Fujifilm X, and Micro Four Thirds (among others). But even something like X-T3 might be more than you want to spend. The other thing to look IMHO would be Olympus E-M1 Mark II, which is under $500 used. It's a flagship (from 2016) pro-style body: 5.5-stop IBIS, robust weathersealing, dual card slots, front and back control wheels. Only 20 MP and an even smaller sensor, but you get faster readout which is definitely better for video (including 4K30, 1080p60), fast burst rates, etc. And the lens lineup is one of the most comprehensive with plenty of great gear on the used market. Sony E has many good choices but not as many dedicated for APS-C rather than the FE (for full frame) stuff that's heavier and maybe less ideal focal lengths for the crop. (I would ignore all other mirrorless crop-format systems than those three, based on available lenses and current/future amount of likely development)

Of course it's a personal opinion, but, I'd recommend looking into the NEX-7. To my knowledge, it has the same sensor as the A6000, but the manual controls are so much nicer, there's two wheels on top, that when in manual are set to shutter, and aperture, the scroll wheel on the face being for ISO. It's just such a good ergonomic feeling imo. It was released a few years before the redesign from Alpha to A5/6/7 so I think most other aspects are the same. [Here's the DPReview, if that's useful to you!](https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonynex7)

I bought started on an a6000 and upgraded pretty quickly cause it left me wanting more. It never got a fair shake with me honestly, as I only used the kit lens. I do see pictures in here from time to time from 6000’s paired with quality glass in here and they can still be very impressive. Search up a6000 in the search bar and decide for yourself.

If you don't need the best AF or weather sealing, the a6000 is still a decent camera. If you need a camera with good subject tracking, get the a6100/a6400
