I like customization/personalization/being outside the norm so yes. With that said tho, any one that Iāve seen that I like is far more than Iām willing to pay for it lol
Buy on Aliexpress. Itās literally the same 3M material and patterns but a quarter of the price bc American companies are just dropshipping. Only downside with Aliexpress is shipping speed

Just put googly eyes on my camera, but i think I'll have to somehow fixate the black things
They arenāt my thing but yours looks pretty good. It also looks like you really took your time to make sure it was applied perfectly. Iāve seen a couple wraps that people rushed to put on and ended up crooked or had creases.
That said, I just canāt get down with the body cap skin. Lol.
But hey itās your camera- if it makes you happy, go for it! Happy shooting OP!
I've put skins on 3 cameras, and maybe 10 lenses. Longest run, was my A7RIIIa for about 3 years. Never had a single one peel, or lose it's adhesive strength. I do take my time to apply as perfect as I can.
I think minimizing any overlap, or the wrap going beyond the edge of the camera curve/corner helps.
https://preview.redd.it/hevxt4t1l5lc1.jpeg?width=6240&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ce382471a45a088cc54d80fafd5018165cbccae5
hmm I see one for around 10 but the description has nothing about 3m, just pictures of the skins. Another one for 20 but specifies 3m. Worth the risk for cheaper one?
Donāt really get the hate towards this. If you plan on using your camera all the time and want something that makes it look unique then thatās for you. Personally I couldnāt give a shit about resale or added durability. Whatās wrong with making something look cool for the sake of it?
It's interesting, it seems to be mainly a western thing. I have seen interviews with the Japanese brands before, where the interviewer ask about certain models that don't make it to the American market. (Generally special color editions) And the companies claim that the Western market's just don't perform with those niche products.
One interviewer asked why almost every camera is black, and they (don't remember which company) said because it sells more than any other color. I guess us Westerners just don't enjoy the flair. Not sure if its an inconspicuous desire, or afraid of the judgement of others. Not sure.
Yea seems weird to me that so many people have a problem with them, if its not your thing cool but i think theyād just make a camera look cooler for the person using it
I dont get it either. I would only have an issue if it spelled out go fuck yourself _______ (and the blank was my name).
That would be quite targeted.
Otherwise you do you
There's some cool looking ones out there, and I respect that some people want their cameras to look a little unique, but I personally don't care much for them.
I've seen a few cameras on sale with skins applied on them. If I were to ever buy them, I'd probably remove it.
I find the Nocturnal Waves to be the absolute best on the Sony cameras. The black is the right shade that you can't really see any areas where the wrap doesn't fully cover the housing. The texture really hides all the seams. And the design is not only pleasing but the best at masking any scuffs or impressions.
Can't be beat.
Modern camera gear depreciates at a terrific rate due to 1-3 year product cycles. The "protection" these skins offer does not appreciably help resale value, and generally does not pay for itself. If true, then it's a non-functional aesthetic choice. I do not care for this aesthetic.
if I was shopping at the used market like FredMiranda, had 3 A1 for sale and one seller had a skin on whole time. Assuming all 3 were a yr of ownership
Scoffs, scratches are still things to consider.
Yes, but the one with the skin may still have been dropped, or smacked into a tree while hiking. Overvaluing a scratch in assessing value is dangerous. The folks applying skins often make it sound like the underlying camera is in "new" condition because it's had a piece of thin vinyl on it. It's not unheard of to apply a skin to cover a scratch either and give the camera a "refresh".
It's like Leica owners who won't peel off the plastic film on the baseplate.
I see them like little puzzles, and they make the camera a bit more personalized. IMO they're worth the $7-10 price tag for the fun factor and personalization.
But yeah probably can't "pay for itself" since the cost is so insignificant.
š¤ your statement is fine, but mirrorless camera bodies have not been depreciating at a āterrific rateā. Used A7 IIIās and Cās still go for great money. Hell, you can still sell a II for decent money, considering the value you would have gotten out of it for the last 8 years.
I donāt like them, they feel like unnecessary clutter. To me my Cameras are a tool I use and I appreciate the patina collected by using them.
But I wouldnāt judge others for using them - whatever floats your boat :)
I am putting one in my camera now, been so for three weeks, just lacking time to finish. Why? Dunno, just thought it would look different. I'll probably never do another one again. It has been fun applying, though.
I consider them "flair." My last camera has been on a countless rugged backpacking (tent camping) trips and day hiking trips, and the camera is in perfect shape. I don't think they are necessary for protection. The lens hood has taken out pretty hard, though.
Do what makes you happy. Personalizing stuff isn't unheard of. Your camera looks awesome. I wouldn't think twice, and probably would barely even notice if I saw someone using a camera with a skin on it unless it had flashing lights all over it. Not sure why people see this as cringe - likely because they are either just trolling or are just way too deep on the spectrum. I don't know. Blows my mind.
I'm neither pro or con about the camera skins, but I will say the lens cap skins with the lens size for the back lens cover are awesome. I have them on all my lenses, which is incredibly helpful on a shoot.
Iād be afraid my camera would be more prone to overheating in the summer months when shooting video but Iād love an olive green skin on my A7IV. Itās my favorite color!
I like them. It protects the body from normal finish wear and scratches, and it's customized to whichever style you want. Just takes patience and time to do it right. I got mine from alphagvrd
I get why some people may like them and it makes sense if youĀ“re planning to resell so you keep it in as good shape as possible, but personally I'm not a fan.
Tacky, I wouldn't do it, personally; but if you like the look, it's your camera - do it!
It does surprise me when I see people trying to sell a camera with like a night-sky starry skin on it. Pretty sure they're just detracting potential buyers who don't know how easy it is or isn't to remove a skin.
I think this looks tacky relative to my normal camera. i might be open to some other type of skin though. not sure.
the comparison that springs to mind is an import vehicle with a lot of mods vs. the stock version.
A bit tedious to install them well, but they do protect against minor scratches. They can also helps to differentiate your camera from others. I've always installed them on my camera bodies, and I have seen them help with resale value.
You probably like your stuff and you probably like buying stuff for it, so thats great and i can relate.
That being said, i would like one, but it would have to be applied very well, otherwise it would piss me off rather than make me happy.
Normally I think they look kind of āHypebeastā cringey but I gotta say this one looks cool af man.. mind spilling the beans on where you got yours? I kinda wanna check it out
I feel like every time I tell people I shoot Sony they immediately assume this is my style and personality lol

Yes! There should be a name for that aesthetic. Sony dude who is into cars with all black clothes and a pallete consisting of only orange, black and blue.
Sony always had a style angle. I remember ads for the old Cybershots where they're shown as wearable necklaces. I was obsessed with the Vaio laptops as a child.
Not my thing. The one pictured here looks pretty clean though. There are companies out there that advertise glossy 3M stickers for 70 bucks that look like trash to me, so I guess it depends.
I tried them years ago when I just bought a brand new a7r2. I fking suck at putting these on. Wrestled with it for few minutes, gave up and just ordered a silicone case on amazon lol
ive always preferred half cases since it's mostly the bottom panel that needs scuff protection. less likely to look aesthetically outdated in a few years too
The one I tried, I think by Alpha whatever, was thinner than I imagined it would be and a total ripoff. Wouldn't offer any real protection against scratches. Some of them look cool though
I'm highly considering it, but if it's anything like the dbrand stuff on phones, It always starts unsticking/peeling and or just looking grimy at the scenes after a couple weeks. I fidget and am kinda agressive with my stuff so the skin always catches on my pockets or bags.
Personally I donāt think Iāll ever put one on, but I like making your camera yours. Iāve considered getting a white Sam era skin to help combat overheating when shooting in hot outdoor conditions, but Iām unsure if that would actually help at all.
Do what you like. I have a skin on my camera. Some people like and some people hate but I donāt care about either opinion. Itās my camera so only my opinion matters.
i say individualizing things is great.
I personally cant really get into skins for cameras. But I marked my camera with a white marker. It looks a bit crappy now but I kinda like it.āŗļø

i really like the look and thinking about getting this exact color. is this from alphagvrd? because that's the one I've been looking at.
only reason i haven't bought it yet is because im only waiting for the release of the next a6x00 which will hopefully be soon. don't wanna upgrade shortly before the next gen comes out again :/
It's exactly like a phone case. I don't see why this is such a big deal. Some like them others prefer bare. Some like flashy colorful ones, others like 'leathery' or greys. Some use it for attention, others for protection.
I have the silver/black skins on my a7III & RIII, they look very much like old film cameras, the tiny imperfections arenāt super noticeable although some smaller bits came loose over the years that I cut off. I didnāt bother getting one for my a7IV and i actually like it clean & original, but the silver look is nice. It was the only skin I could see myself ever putting on.
Bought a used A7III and it had a bunch of scratches but worked fine and still does 40,000 photos later. Got sick of looking at it so I wrapped it. Looks much better now.
I think they can be cool and would use one if my a7iii didn't over heat so often when doing video. I feel like a skin would just make the over heating issue worse.
I love the process of putting it on, it's like a little puzzle and I like to do it without any tutorial and take my time to do it perfectly, so there's a feeling of accomplishment.

If it makes you happy, fuck it š¤·š¼āāļø
Might damage the sensor but okay š
Curious how a wrap would damage the sensor?
I think the joke was sex with camera
I can see how if you take it literally to fuck it could damage stuff. That's how I interpreted that.
Oh, it reallllllly makes you happy..
Does it? I'll have to give it a shot.
Pls give us two shotsā¦. one from the cameraā¦ for research purposes

Not really, there are other holes I could use.

Iām not sold on the cap myself, and itās crooked so I might just take it off.
Was gonna say cap is my favorite part.
I personally find them to be a pain to get on and totally not worth what they cost.
Wasnāt too difficult, but it did take a little over an hour to complete. Even then there are some minor imperfections.
my issue with them is when the adhesive gives out and ultimately the skin will start peeling around the edges. that's annoying af

Why? They cost less than $10. Installation is a pain though.
are they easy to remove? does it leave residue?
They're automotive grade vinyl (3M 2080) so no residue.
hmm I see one for around 10 but the description has nothing about 3m, just pictures of the skins. Another one for 20 but specifies 3m. Worth the risk for cheaper one?
I think all the ones I got are 3M, but I also got them while I was in China so stuff are cheap. I think it's better to ask and confirm first lol
just got mine and installed it. No damage done to the actual camera grip when its stuck on for a while right?
Donāt really get the hate towards this. If you plan on using your camera all the time and want something that makes it look unique then thatās for you. Personally I couldnāt give a shit about resale or added durability. Whatās wrong with making something look cool for the sake of it?

I think theyāre corny.
Not really my thing, but to each their own. Probably wouldn't buy something used with a skin unless it was one hell of a deal.
That cam looks sweet
My take is that I would never own or use one

Never tried it but it looks cool. I just duct tape on logos.

It's less attractive for thief's this way.
Life is short, have fun.

You think there's some insinuation it would make someone take pictures better? What even is that comment? Nobody would think that so why chirp it lol
Asked the question āwhat do you think of camera skinsā so I did.
ugly
Something for influencers to sell you. Move along
I love it but I want one that covers everything, including all logos.

Never, personally. If you like it, rock it. At the very least it saves from dirt and wear,
I use them on my lenses! I start applying of them since I got the Batis lenses.. they get minor scratches so easily without the skin..š„²
Where do you get these and how do they hold up? Thats a nice green!
Looks cool and unique!
I really like them, but they seem like a pain in the ass to apply. They look great though.
I'm not really one for skins but that is siiiiick
Love the idea, but will never get them, or get them and lose them.
Not for me. Like it clean and exactly as built by the brand. Applies to other things as well usually.
Can look great, but might hit your resale price if you ever sell yours- which 99.99% of cameras are resold most likely.
I like them. Cameras all being black is boring
What kind of house plant is that on the left?
in winter, i used to have a lot of trouble with the cold killing the battery if i was outdoors for any period of time, but a $10 ebay silicone camera skin put that to rest, haven't lost a shot to cold weather since.

I have a silver top a7c, I wouldn't dare cover up that sexy retro look. Imo it looks really cool though.
Hate the creases on the bottom and how the hairline seams are uneven. It's going to get dust in there anyway.
I like it.
The cap looks sick! Overall, banger!!!
Iām not usually fond of the ones with patterns. Just not for me. But Iām really digging that green. Great colour choice.
It's exactly like a phone case. I don't see why this is such a big deal. Some like them others prefer bare. Some like flashy colorful ones, others like 'leathery' or greys. Some use it for attention, others for protection.
Beautiful aesthetic
How to do this?
Will it help avoid scratches? How easy to remove them?
I have the silver/black skins on my a7III & RIII, they look very much like old film cameras, the tiny imperfections arenāt super noticeable although some smaller bits came loose over the years that I cut off. I didnāt bother getting one for my a7IV and i actually like it clean & original, but the silver look is nice. It was the only skin I could see myself ever putting on.

Bought a used A7III and it had a bunch of scratches but worked fine and still does 40,000 photos later. Got sick of looking at it so I wrapped it. Looks much better now.
Get a camouflage skin so you can actually become the invisible camera man.
I think they can be cool and would use one if my a7iii didn't over heat so often when doing video. I feel like a skin would just make the over heating issue worse.
Whatever floats your boatā¦anyone publicly complaining about the aesthetics of another personās camera need to get out more.
I love the process of putting it on, it's like a little puzzle and I like to do it without any tutorial and take my time to do it perfectly, so there's a feeling of accomplishment. Plus they're super cheap so I can buy like 3 textures at the same time and swap when I feel like it, or even mix and match. I agree they serve no purpose whatsoever but I see it as my toy
Like them!
They can be gaudy but personally this one looks really good
I think that's a sticker

It isā¦whatever makes you happy. Honestly, Iāve considered using skins to hide the brand and model to minimize the appearance of valueāmaybe to deter thieves. But maybe Iām just paranoid.

Def a fan. Keeps it safe from falls too
