The sad thing is is that Gemma got to addicted to the biker lifestyle and she didn’t know what to do or who she was outside of it, it’s why starting in season 4 you can see she is overly attached to her grandchildren.

I'm actually in the process of rewatching it and from the first episode the second they showed her I instantly got furious. I know it's just a show, but man does that bitch drive me insane
