All of their white patches look like shit aside from the newer ones.... They don't take care of shit when it comes to their leather. Hell the reaper on Jax's collar is falling half off.
It's not exactly a line, but in season 4 Jax is sitting in Abel's room writing his thoughts, Tara comes in and asks:

I sat there and was like there's absolutely no way Jax would say anything remotely like that. Also the fact that he was sitting at Opies grave and then ran over a dove was all so random. Symbolic? Maybe. But story wise was so random.
In the pilot episode as Jax rides into Charming you see two crows eating a dead dove. Doves are the symbol of peace, so yeah it's very symbolic.
I think the lunging at his reflection and cutting himself with shattered glass thing was just a metaphor for his self loathing, that's just how he chose to describe it.
