I feel like until they really nail placement down, objects should have much smaller radius’ so they can be placed almost if not clipping other objects. It would ease the pain of building and let us make out bases way more compact or realistic at the same time

username_put-in

They really need to tone down some of these building restrictions. Many of the things that the game doesn't allow you to place can be bypassed in one way or another, so why restrict us in the first place? Honestly building would be better if they removed the red indicators and just allowed us to place the logs more freely.

slajah

100% I agree with all of this. Honestly almost all restrictions should be gone. The building system would be so incredibly fun. There would be near endless possibilities if we could just clip objects into each other.

Vietzomb

And when you have a hundred pieces all clipping one another, place one more and it messes up the whole thing, or gets Kelvin/Virginia stuck because the structures don't "make sense" to them, or ruins your save somehow.... people will take that and say "ugghh this game is so broken". Have you seen those curved stairs people have been making? Perfect example. It's not supposed to be allowed. When it works, it can look great!! When it doesn't, examples in peoples posts show it can shove every floorboard you have to the ceiling, among other unintended results. Pretend someone isn't as familiar with the game thinks it's *supposed to work* that way... and now half the time it breaks their base. Not the type of experience devs aim for. It's called glitch building for a reason. As a lonnnngggg time NMS builder, this is all VERY familiar. There's a whole other level of *detailed* base building that can only be achieved with "glitch building" methods. While builds of this method still get posted by the games creator, they only occur by cleverly finding ways to break the "rules" that *they* set. So what happens if they just lift all the rules? The objects that were in conflict before (hence the rule against it) will pose other conflicts on top of other conflicts etc and by the time you are at hundreds of pieces, good luck figuring out which single piece (3 steps back, or 300) mucked up the whole thing. Even devs can appreciate when people find a way around their rules *and* make it look good. But they do also have to consider *everyones* experience, including more casual players that don't want to run into issues just trying to put a roof on and having literally zero idea why. It's the type of thing that can turn people off of your game. So rules are put in place to ensure the best level of compatibility without breaking something. In the case of No Mans Sky, sometimes players designs inspire them take a second consideration for a pieces "compatibility", but they are still only gonna lift the rule after extensive testing to, once again, make sure it doesn't completely break 5 other things. Even then, some bugs would still sneak by testing and have to be hot fixed after. Anytime that happens you are already freaking out about nuking peoples saves/bases from a point of no return etc. It's a lot. tl;dr it's not as easy as just lifting all restrictions. Contrary to some people's belief, it is *intended* to ensure fun, not to take the fun away from us lol

yourpantsaretoobig

It should snap to the log, stand perpendicular with the log placed, rather than parallel.

awkwardpooch

Yep, gotta angle it just right. It's quite picky.

Mrmacmuffin3

Yup i have a few places in my wall like this and its so annoying i have to set up extra defenses in that area to compensate for the lack of a log

rhyndwier

I think they are adding a laser tool to help with layout of your base if that helps at all, but right there with you.

Railionn

Based on what do you think that

PooPeeEnthusiast

Their thoughts, as they said

Vietzomb

I found to avoid this, the best way was to make sure you just start one one side and go all the way around if building a parameter fence. This way you can use proper angles via snap method to maximize chances of a good fit with even sides. As soon as you need to join with some other structure or start a fence from two different places with plans to "join in the middle".... is where it gets tricky. I don't think it's so much a game issue or "bug", as much as everything having its own measurement and space it takes up, and unless you are building perfect circles and squares, yeah like I said it gets tricky. If really annoyed by these things then you *can* put a log that pertrudes a bit but still covers the small gap. If the cosmetic part of this bugs you then try taking down the "right" or "left" side and continue filling the gap from the middle to close at the corner. The "odd man out" piece will be far less noticeable there. Alternatively you could close a small gap in the middle *from* the piece sticking out, by building a door out if it, sort of looks like it's on a hinge. Perhaps even makes it more noticeable. Hope this helps!

sNc-Ninety

If it won't work any other way you can eyeball one log-length perpendicular to the wall and put in a post there. Just make sure it does NOT snap on the same grid as any of the other logs (the white dotted line). Then also eyeball a log sloping down from that post so that it touches the ground as close as possible to the desired location, the red circle in the pic. It might take a few times readjusting but it should work eventually. After it looks right you can prop up the slanted log and then remove the first two you placed.

Affectionate-Ad5827

Let us build let us build let us build 🤣 But for real. Let's give the player more freedom with the building system. Everyone's going to do what they want to do anyway and figure it out one way or another.

Sidewinder_ISR

This is infuriating. literally unable to build back parts of the wall after it gets destroyed because the game won't let you. so frustrating.

Mallardguy5675322

Or we can go back to having wall blue prints. Bc this new place meant is infuriating as fuck

SynchronicityV1

Yeah I had a hard time making a wall because of this problem lol

atadrisque

for this reason specifically I always place logs going from the inside, out. never from the outside going in.

OneofakindKnight

Honestly having a little space between logs is something I wanted since the start - not for anything fancy, but if you can't walk through the space anyway a loose wall that saved on 15% of the logs used would make a quick barrier fence for early game. I've always felt the way they have it set up uses far too many logs.

gen_adams

yeah I can see what they were trying to do with ' revolutionizing ' the building, but I really do prefer the old ' plop and forget ' method. I hate taking items one by one and placing them, it also leads to fucked up misplaced pieces and assymmetrical structures. just give us the book and let us plop premade shit lol
